ABSTRACT

Objective:To analyze the general situation and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome characteristics in patients with coronavirus disease-2019(COVID-19) in Anhui province, and to provide a basis for clinical diagnosis and treatment. Method:The 144 cases of COVID-19 patients in Anhui province were collected from designated hospitals by means of multi-center cross-sectional epidemiological survey. The TCM syndrome information collection table of patients with novel coronavirus pneumonia was created to collect the general data, etiology and pathogenesis, pulse and signs, syndrome type and frequency statistics of the patients, and then summarize and analyze the main symptoms and syndrome distribution characteristics of patients with novel coronavirus pneumonia. Result:The mean age of 144 patients with COVID-19 infection was (43.54±15.91) years old, and the number of males was larger than the number of females (9/7). The age distribution and gender difference of the patients were statistically significant (P<0.05). 36.11%(52/144) of the patients had a history of travel/residence in Wuhan/Hubei province, and 63.89% (92/144) of the patients had a history of close contact with the confirmed patients. The main clinical manifestations included fever, cough, diarrhea, fatigue and poor tolerance. Light red tongue and red tongue were dominant in tongue quality, with mainly greasy coating, slippery pulse, rapid pulse and soft pulse were the main types of pulse. The main types of syndrome differentiation were the common type (76.38%, 110/144), most of which were demonstrated as dampness obstructing the lung and spleen (56.25%, 81/144). There was no significant difference in gender composition and age distribution between two groups. Conclusion:The pathogenesis of COVID-19 patients in Anhui province is closely related to the lung and spleen, and the dampness caused by pathogen of the epidemic virus is the main pathological factor of disease, which is in line with characteristics of dampness epidemic in TCM, also can see concurrently "heat, poison, stasis" for a characteristic.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the CT manifestations and pathology features of solitary fibrous tumors of the pleural (SFTP),to improve diagnostic accuracy of this disease. Methods CT manifestations of 12 cases with SFTP confirmed by surgery were analyzed retrospectively by comparison with the pathological findings. Results The CT images of the 12 cases showed intrathoracic soft-tissue shadow with well-defined margin which was widely connected with pleural. There were 4 cases with mound like and mushroom shape,3 cases with round or oval shape,2 cases with irregular shape growing into the pleural space,3 cases with large mass filling unilateral thoracic cavity,9 cases with pleural tail sign and 1 case with pleural pedicle sign. The plain CT showed homogeneous density in 7 cases,high-low mixed density in 4 cases and with internal calcification in 1 case. After contrast enhancement,5 cases were map like heterogeneous and progressive enhancement, and 4 cases have strip distorted vessel inside or on the edge of the lesion. Conclusion CT manifestations of SFTP have certain characteristics, such as broad base, shaping growth and pleural tail sign, which could be helpful to improve the diagnostic accuracy of SFTP by analyzing carefully.

ABSTRACT

Bromide-mediated intermolecular annulation of phenylethanone derivatives with alkynes has been developed, which allows for the regioselective formation of polysubstituted 1-naphthols. The usage of readily available bromine catalyst, broad substrate scope, and mild conditions make this protocol very practical. Mechanistic investigations reveal that the bromination of phenylethanone derivatives occurs to yield bromo-substituted intermediates, which react in situ with alkynes to furnish the desired 1-naphthols.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To determine evaluate the effect of health-promoting lifestyle on the outcomes of suboptimal health status (SHS). METHODS: A prospective population cohort was conducted by consecutively enrolling 5676 college students who took routine health examination from March to May 2013. The participants were assessed for baseline health status and lifestyle and 2972 participants with SHS were followed up for 1.5 years. Exposure was defined as an unhealthy lifestyle. The health-promoting lifestyle was assessed via the Health-promoting Lifestyle Profile (HPLP-II). SHS was evaluated using the medical examination report and Sub-health Measurement Scale V1.0 (SHMS V1.0). RESULTS: Among the 2972 students with SHS, 422 showed recovery of the healthy status at 1.5 year follow-up, 579 showed progression into disease conditions, and 1971 remained in SHS. The participants with recovered health status presented with significant increase of SHMS V1.0 scores by 8.75∓6.95 points compared to the baseline assessment (t=-2.14, P=0.000) in physiological, psychological and social dimensions; they also showed a marked improvement of HPLP-II scores by 14.73 points in 6 dimensions (t=-15.34, P=0.000). Multivariable regression analyses with adjusted demographic variables revealed a significant association between health status and health-promoting lifestyle (P<0.05). Compared with a healthy lifestyle (minimal exposure), a 'poor' lifestyle (the highest level of exposure) was associated with a 30 times higher risk of developing SHS (OR: 30.598, 95% CI: 3.928-238.331), while a 'moderate' lifestyle (a relatively high-level exposure) had a 24 times higher risk of SHS (OR: 23.988, 95%CI: 14.695-39.158), and a suboptimal lifestyle had a nearly 4 times higher risk of SHS (OR: 4.306, 95%CI: 2.767-6.702). CONCLUSION: s SHS may evolve into either a healthy or a disease condition. A unhealthy lifestyle is the important risk factor contributing to the progression of SHS into a disease condition, suggesting the importance of intervention of unhealthy lifestyles in promoting good health.
