ABSTRACT

The work contains results of determinations of protein, fat, lactose, vitamin C and minerals: Ca, P, Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, Na, K, Cl as well as toxic metals like Hg, Cd and Pb in goat milk. The nonmineral components were determined by general approved analytical methods. Minerals like Ca, P, Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, Na, K, Cd and Pb were determined by the flame ASA method and mercury by "cold vapour" technique. Chloride were determined by Mohr method and phosphorus as phosphates by colorimetric method with ammonium molybdate. Mean percentage content of protein, fat, lactose and ash were: 3.2 (range 2.7-3.7); 3.9 (3.2-6.5); 4.1 (3.9-4.9); 0.87 (0.84-1.00) respectively. Mean content of ascorbic acid amounted 0.53 mg/100 g (range 0.19-1.42), and the content of minerals were as follows: Ca 130 (range 102-150); P 127 (115-151); Mg 14.1 (12.6-16.3); Mn 0.026 (0.019-0.037); Cu 0.04 (0.02-0.08); Zn 0.54 (0.40-1.25); Fe 0.047 (0.020-0.097); Na 42.4 (20.8-59.5); K 163 (138-190); Cl 168 (128-180). The levels of toxic metals were mostly below the allowable limits, mercury from 3.8 to 14.5 micrograms/kg, cadmium < 0.01 micrograms/kg. In the case of lead a 40% of investigated samples were above the allowable limits.

ABSTRACT

A urinary luteinizing hormone test was utilized to predict ovulation in 99 spontaneous, 122 clomiphene citrate, and 82 human menopausal gonadotropin stimulated cycles. Tests were performed in early morning and evening specimens and follicular development was monitored by daily ultrasonography. A positive detection rate of 98, 97, and 94%, respectively, was obtained. Evidence of luteinized unruptured follicles was seen more frequently in stimulated cycles, concurring with negative test results. In 2 spontaneous, 1 clomiphene citrate and 5 hMG induced cycles two distinct LH surges were detected concomitant with a pattern of follicular atresia and subsequent new follicular development. Most ovulations occurred between 16 and 28 h after LH detection, significantly earlier in spontaneous than in clomiphene citrate stimulated cycles (p less than 0.02), whereas pre-ovulatory follicles were larger in the clomiphene citrate group (p less than 0.001). The mean duration of the follicular and luteal phases, as calculated from the LH peak, was substantially shorter in the hMG cycles than in the other two groups (p less than 0.001).

ABSTRACT

Within the framework of an epidemiological survey of the state of dentition the authors examined some 4% of adolescents in the East Slovakian region (aged 15-18 years). The authors recorded the following values according to Angle's classification: A II/1-14.3% A II/2-7.5% A III-3.1%. Abnormal position of the frontal teeth: retrusion-8.2% protrusion-12.2% cramming-19.7%. Incidence of malocclusion: deep occlusion-23.8% labial occlusion-4.4% open occlusion-5.8% crossed occlusion-7.3%. Diastema with normal position of the frontal teeth-7.9%. The authors evaluate the total incidence of maxillary orthopaedic defects-70.2%-as very high.

ABSTRACT

A six month old boy under observation for over two years developed an ichthyosiform erythroderma with alopecia, which was diagnosed as Netherton syndrome. Histologic examination of the hair roots showed trichorrhexis invaginata (bamboo hair), trichorrhexis invaginata torta and pili torti. Prolinuria was detected. Local therapy with corticosteroids was without any effect. These symptoms can be attributed to aminoaciduria (prolinuria).
