ABSTRACT

The spread of brucella infection under modern conditions of cattle breeding were studied with the foci in the Rostov region taken as an example. The main epidemiological features and tendencies of epidemiological importance were established. To find out specific antigen in different environmental objects, the approbation of the enzyme immunoassay test systems was carried out and the possibility of their use at the institutions of the State Sanitary and Epidemiological inspection was shown.

ABSTRACT

The study revealed the possibility, on principle, for L. acidophilus strain VKM V-2020 D to colonize the intestine of white mice with the preservation of the viability of lactobacilli subjected to the action of antibiotics. The culture of this strain, isolated from the animals, showed the stability of its biological properties: resistance to polymyxin M, kanamycin, cyprofloxacin, nalidixic acid (including acquired resistance to rifampicin), as well as pronounced antagonism with respect to Vibrio cholerae. Good prospects for the use of L. acidophilus strain VKM V-2020 D for further studies regarding its use for prophylaxis and therapy were noted.

ABSTRACT

In the first third of the twentieth century, the overgrazing of cattle in the eastern districts of the modern Rostov Province yielded deserts in the places of virgin steppes and created favourable conditions for the enlargement of an area for the small souslik, a main carrier of plague in the natural focus of the northwestern Caspian Sea Region. On the above territories, this gave rise to a new natural focus of plague. Its liquidation required many-year goal-oriented efforts of large collective bodies of plaguologists and great material costs. The settlements of small sousliks exist on the above territories today and the activation of a natural focus of plague in the adjacent Kalmykia generate a need for enhancing plague epidemiological surveillance in the eastern districts of the Rostov Province today.

ABSTRACT

As the result of the complex clinico-laboratory examination of 265 cattle breeders working on 5 farms where cases of brucellosis among agricultural animals had been detected, 62 persons (21.8%) were found to have the positive reaction to brucellosis. A strikingly high proportion (38.3%) of infected persons was found among the workers of a cattle-feeding complex. Out of 62 persons with the positive reaction to brucellosis, 32 had different clinical manifestations of the disease. Treatment for all persons who needed it was organized, the rest were placed under dispensary observation. Regular complex clinico-laboratory examinations of cattle breeders to brucellosis were recommended.
