ABSTRACT

The structure of recurrent malignant neoplasms was analysed in a group of patients followed up on a permanent basis after the treatment for skin cancer. Observation of 2801 patients with primary basal and squamous cell skin cancer during 32 years (1975-2006) revealed 740 recurrent malignant neoplasms largely affecting skin, gastrointestinal tract, lungs, mammary and prostate glands.

The paper describes a case of a long-lasting chronic migrant erythema (ME) in an 82-year-old female, which developed after the bite of an insect (a tick?). The specific feature of this case is an unusual duration (2 years) of a single focus of ME and autopsy of the skin revealed giant cells with centrally arranged 3-5 nuclei and cytoplam with PAS-positive inclusions as tiny (5 m) oblong formations, that may be Borelia.

ABSTRACT

Stewart-Treves Syndrome ('STS) is a rare, extremely malignant and quickly progressing tumor. It is angiosarcoma developing in lymphostasis of an arm after radical mastectomy for cancer. The patient aged 80 years was followed-up, in whom STS had developed 19 years after radical mastectomy. Clinical diagnosis was confirmed by pathomorphological examination of dermal biopsy. Advanced age and severe associated diseases made it impossible to carry out specific therapy. The patient died of intoxication and increasing cardio-vascular insufficiency 9 months after the onset of the disease.
