The ultrastructural properties of the cell surface of lymphocytes in cancer and polyposis of the stomach were studied with the help of rastrum electron microscopy. The cell surface of lymphocytes in gastric cancer was found to have specific morphological features which should be used as differential diagnostic criterion in gastric cancer.

An analysis of the complex treatment of 33 patients with acute bilateral suppurative diseases of the lungs complicated by pneumothorax has been made. It has been proved that early pleurectomy with resection of the lung is possible in a number of patients with such a pathology. Indications to surgery were established and a comparative analysis of conservative and surgical methods was made.

An analysis of the surgical treatment of 131 patients with spontaneous nonspecific pneumothorax has shown the operative treatment to be widely used after unsuccessful aspiration therapy, recurrent and complicated pneumothorax.

Results of the treatment of 120 patients with general diffuse pyoperitonitis are described. In the complex treatment the peritoneal dialysis and forced diuresis with controlled hemodilution were used. Of 86 patients 18 died. In the treatment of 16 patients the peritoneal dialysis was not used. Eleven patients died. The best results were obtained when the complex of medical measures included the peritoneal dialysis combined with forced diuresis and hyperbaric oxygenation.

The state of cell immunity was studied in 30 patients with precancerous processes (polyps and ulcers) and 30 patients with malignant tumors of the stomach. It was established that such indices of cell immunity as the amount of circulating T and B lymphocytes could be used for the assessment of the degree of "higher risk" of the appearance of malignization of the stomach, for the choice of the extensiveness of surgery in gastric cancer and for prognosis of the outcome.

The authors report indications and contraindications to using different methods of functional diagnosis of the ventilatory and circulatory systems in patients with lung diseases in the postoperative period. It is felt that in each particular case different methods of functional diagnosis should be employed differentially, taking into consideration individual peculiarities of the patient and his affection. It is necessary to use the methods that would provide the maximum useful information, but not to use them following the principle of transfer from simple to more complex procedures.
