ABSTRACT

Time course of changes was studied in parameters characterizing lipid peroxidation (LPO) and the total lipids counts in red cell membranes (RCM) and blood plasma (BP) of patients with hypertensive disease (HD) and arterial hypertension in chronic pyelonephritis against the background of diabetes mellitus (DM). The study groups were DM patients (group I), those with coexistent HDDM (group II), and those with arterial hypertension caused by chronic pyelonephritis in the presence of DM (group III). All three groups of patients demonstrated intensification of the cellular membrane- and blood plasma LPO as well as increase in the total lipids counts. HDDM results in much higher levels of the RCM and BP LPO products. Relatively higher RCM and BP LPO in group II patients as compared with III one, permits differentiating the above pathologic mixes. The results obtained allow us to recommend that antioxidants be incorporated into a complex therapy to be adopted for treating the above conditions.

ABSTRACT

Effect of lipid peroxidation on content and composition of blood plasma lipids was studied in 20 patients with hypertension within various periods after hypertonic crisis. Alterations in blood plasma lipid spectrum were shown to be related to initiation of lipid peroxidation in cell membranes. Dynamics of lipid peroxidation in individual blood plasma lipid fractions appears to reflect the adaptation under conditions of the pathological state of the organism.

ABSTRACT

++Non-ezymatic lipid peroxidation (LP) and total lipids (TL) in serum and erythrocytic membranes were studied in 42 hypertensive subjects and 35 chronic sufferers with pyelonephritis accompanied by arterial hypertension. The measurements performed at different phases of the clinical course provided evidence in favour of possible application of LP and TL tests in differentiating essential hypertension from chronic pyelonephritis with arterial hypertension.

ABSTRACT

Alterations in activity of membrane-bound Ca2(+)-ATPases were shown to depend on the rate of lipid peroxidation in cell membranes of patients with hypertension during the period of crisis. On the basis from these results antioxidants and Ca2(+)-antagonistic drugs could be used for treatment of hypertensive crisis. Monitoring of the disease is possible by means of estimation of the membrane-bound Ca2(+)-ATPases activity.

ABSTRACT

A study of the peroxidation of lipids of erythrocytic membranes and blood plasma, antioxidant activity of the blood plasma in 59 patients with hypertensive disease revealed that the initial stages of the disease exacerbation increase of the antioxidant activity is caused by an intensification of peroxidation of cell membrane lipids. A less distinct increase of the antioxidant activity during remission may be due to changes of the blood plasma lipid composition.
