ABSTRACT

The article presents a case of a surgical treatment of removing a dermoid cyst of the floor of the oral cavity in a patient with severe hemophilia A. A detailed analysis was carried out of the surgical operation, postoperative management, coagulation factor replacement therapy and accompanying therapy, as well as the features of anesthesia, which allowed a surgical intervention without any hemorrhagic and infectious complications.

ABSTRACT

Nine cleft lip and palate patients aged 17-32 years were included in the study, all having significant maxilla alveolar bone defects. Oral rehabilitation was possible by means of bone augmentation with iliac crest graft, soft tissue plasty and subsequent dental implantation (3 to 6 months after first-step procedures).

ABSTRACT

In an experiment performed on pigs, methods of light and scanning electron microscopy were used to study the interaction of zirconium and titanium dental implants with bone 6 months following their insertion. Distinct features of integration of both implant types with bone structures were detected. Sites of direct contact of bone structures with metal were found to undergo constant remodeling according to biochemical and metabolic conditions in each zone of an implant surface. Statistically the degree of interactive properties of zirconium implants significantly exceeded similar parameter for titanium screws. Along the perimeter of the zones of bone contact with zirconium implants greater numbers of forming and formed bone areas were revealed as compared to the zones of bone contact with titanium implants, where erosion lacunae were more numerous. The complex of research methods used in this study have not revealed distinct changes in the structure of osteocytes, located in immediate proximity to the metal surface in comparison with more distant sites in the bone.

ABSTRACT

Deformations after mandibular resection can be eliminated by single stage defects replacement by reconstructive materials of different origin. Prior to microsurgical methods of jaws reconstruction the patient rehabilitation with defects of the jaws had very limited success due to a number of drawbacks of traditional techniques (transplant tendency to resorption and seizure, complexity in surrounding tissues recovery) that makes impossible the use of the dental implantation techniques. In case of interdisciplinary planning of the treatment dental implants can be successfully placed in reconstructed mandible providing the conditions for aesthetic and functional rehabilitation of patients. The article described a clinical case of carrying out microsurgical mandible reconstruction with consequent placing of 7 dental implants and rational prosthetic appliance making.

ABSTRACT

Twelve patients with hemangiomas of maxillofacial soft tissues aged 9 months to 15 years were examined by B-mode echography and color doppler imaging of the bloodstream. Combination of these two methods helps confirm the presence of a vascular neoformation, assess its dissemination, volume, and syntopy, specify the morphological variant of its structure, evaluate bloodstream velocity in various parts of the neoplasm. The notion of bloodstream intensity is introduced for the first time, reflecting the number of actively functioning vessels per unit of tumor volume. Causes of artefact appearance have been detected and approaches to their elimination out outlined. Echographic signs permitting selection of the optimal treatment strategy for each patient have been defined.

ABSTRACT

The procedures associated with the application of a super-frequency electromagnetic field (SFEMF) are being introduced into a therapeutical process in their various modifications at the Pediatric Surgery Hospital of Russian State Medical University. This has been preceded by enormous experimental work aimed at evaluating the potentialities of SFEMF for potentiation of cryogenic exposure and for individual use for endovascular occlusion and local hyperthermia. A total of 947 patients were treated with SFEMF from 1979 to 1990. The largest group included children with hemangiomas of various site (n = 465) and those with cheloid scars (n = 395). Thirty-one patients underwent intravascular coagulation with SFEMF in the treatment of arterial and venous malformations and 31 patients were treated for pigmentary spots of various site with SFEMF + cryodestruction. Local hypothermia was performed in 25 children with extensive hemangiomas of the face and neck with SFEMF. The total therapeutical benefits reached 98%. For these purposes the authors used a Plot routine apparatus, 915 mHz, with a set of contact and special emitters. The experience with SFEMF in pediatric surgery suggests that it is highly effective and the trend is promising.
