ABSTRACT

Urbanisation has emerged as a formidable challenge for urban policymakers, reaching unparalleled heights and unsettling the ecological equilibrium of the cities. Urban areas now grapple with many issues encompassing climate change, resource depletion, population surges and increased pollution levels. Many planned cities have planted trees and other vegetation within the urban sectors to enhance air quality, mitigate climate effects and provide valuable ecosystem services. This study assessed tree species diversity and their potential for carbon sequestration in Panjab University Campus, Chandigarh. We established 188 plots, each comprising randomly selected quadrats measuring 10 m × 10 m, encompassing areas with varying levels of vegetation, ranging from low to moderate and high density. We used four different allometric equations to estimate tree biomass and carbon stock. Our findings revealed that 92 tree species belong to 72 genera and 35 families, with a total tree density of 975 ha-1. The total CO2 sequestration in form of carbon stock was 18,769.46 Mg C ha-1, with Manilkara hexandra (1239.20 Mg C ha-1), Ficus benghalensis (1072.24 Mg C ha-1), Kigelia pinnata (989.89 Mg C ha-1) and Lagerstroemia floribunda (716.88 Mg C ha-1) being the top contributors. Specifically, the equation of Chave et al. (2005) without tree height yielded the highest biomass and carbon stock estimates than other equations. The present study underscores the vital role of trees on the campus as potent carbon reservoirs meet to maintain an aesthetic sense for biotic components and alleviate rising levels of CO2 in the atmospheric environment. By emphasising the role of urban trees as potent carbon reservoirs, the study underscores the importance of integrating green infrastructure into urban planning strategies. Furthermore, it offers valuable guidance for urban planners. It suggests that strategic tree planting and maintenance can enhance green spaces, regulate temperatures and ultimately support regional and global climate change mitigation goals. Incorporating these findings into urban planning processes can aid policymakers in developing resilient, ecologically sustainable cities worldwide.

ABSTRACT

Extensive global dependency on rice and wheat crops has necessitated the adoption of intensive cultivation practices, thereby compelling to closely monitor the potential yield-limiting factors, among which, boron (B) deficiency stands out to be a prime concern. The present study explores the effects of B fertilization strategies within the Rice-Wheat Cropping System (RWCS) in the Tarai region of North-West India. A comprehensive six-year field experiment was conducted (2013-2019) at G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Uttarakhand, India. The experiment tested graded B doses (0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 kg ha-1) at varied frequencies (single, alternate, and annual) in a factorial design. The study revealed significant impacts of alternate B application at 1.5 kg ha-1 on crop yields and the Sustainable Yield Index (SYI). The System Rice Equivalent Yield (SREY) exhibited an increase of 6.7% with B supplementation over B-deprived plots, highlighting the pivotal role of B fertilizer in enhancing productivity within the RWCS. The economic optimum B dose was found to be 1.422 kg ha-1 using a linear plus plateau model, resulting in a calculated annual SREY of 9.73 t ha-1 when applied alternately to the cropping system. Continuous application and higher B rates demonstrated substantial increases in various B fractions, while the mobility factor remained within 10%, depicting safe ecological limits. The distribution of fractions in B-treated plots on average followed the order: residual B > organically-bound B > oxide bound B > specifically adsorbed B > readily soluble B. Similarities in the distribution patterns of B fractions between B-treated plots and the control indicated potential influence of biotic or abiotic processes on B fraction dynamics, even in the absence of external B application. To sum up, B application in alternate years at 1.5 kg ha-1 was most sustainable in enhancing the SREY, SYI, available soil B, and B fractions and lowering the environmental hazards.

ABSTRACT

Pomato is a horticultural wonder plant, as tomato and potato can be produced from a single plant. This experiment explored the influence of diverse graft combinations of tomato scions grafted onto potato rootstocks on various growth and yield-attributing traits. The investigation outcomes confirmed the significantly positive influence of scion grafted onto rootstock on various yielding attributes of tomato and potato harvested from pomato grafts. Scion "Rakshita" grafted onto the rootstock of Kufri Himalini had the maximum fruit length. In contrast, the fruits harvested from the graft combination of Avtar grafted onto Kufri Khyati had the maximum number of fruits per cluster and the number of fruits per plant. The highest average fruit weight, fruit yield per meter square, and total fruit yield quintal per hectare were recorded with control "Avtar. The longest harvest duration was noticed with the graft combination of Heemsohna grafted onto Kufri Himalini. Moreover, on, rootstock Kufri Himalini with scion Rakshita resulted in maximum tuber length, and average tuber weight, while Kufri Himalini with Avtar had maximum fruit width. The maximum number of tubers per plant was also noticed with Kufri Pukhraj with Palam Tomato hybrid -1. The potato harvested from the rootstock of Kufri Pukhraj with Avtar had the highest tuber yield per plant, total tuber yield quintal per hectare, and tuber equivalent yield. The highest survival percentage of grafted plants was noted in Heemsohna onto Kufri Jyoti. In context to the cumulative yield of tomato fruits and potato tubers obtained from the pomato graft was found to be incremented in grafts of Avtar grafted onto Kufri Pukhraj followed by Rakshita grafted onto Kufri Rakshita, which also resulted in the maximum benefit-cost ratio with highest net return and gross return. The graft combination of scion Avtar and Rakshita onto Rootstock Kufri Pukhraj resulted in a positive increment in yield attributing traits of the pomato plant than of control of un-grafted tomato and potato.

ABSTRACT

Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) is characterized by the degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra. SPECT imaging using technetium-99m [99mTc] labeled trodat is the choice of imaging to differentiate PD from its other forms like drug-induced PD. Aims and Objectives: The main objective of our study was to prepare in-house sterile formulation of [99mTc]Tc-trodat and use in clinics. Materials and Methods: The labeling of trodat was standardized using glucoheptonate sodium salt (GHA), stannous chloride dihydrate (in 0.05 N HCl), and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (Na-EDTA). The preparation was mixed and autoclaved at 15 psi for 15 min. The standardised formulation was stored at 4°C, -20°C and -80°C and labeling with 99mTc was tested for up to 6 days. The radiochemical purity, chemical impurities, and endotoxin levels were tested. The frozen formulation was tested in swiss mice (n = 3) for biodistribution studies at 4 h. Around 18 ± 2 mCi was injected intravenously in each patient (n = 5) and the image was acquired at 4 h post-injection. Results: The radiochemical purity of the preparation was 98.3 ± 1.4% with a retention time of 16.8 ± 1.5 min as compared to 4.0 ± 0.5 min for free 99mTc. Animal distribution showed highest uptake in liver and dual excretion via hepatobiliary and renal system. [99mTc]Tc-trodat imaging was able to differentiate both caudate and putamen. Conclusions: In-house frozen preparation was advantageous, as it has decreased the chance of manual error as compared to daily make up formulations and economical as compared to commercially available kits.

ABSTRACT

Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) cause hundreds of millions of cases of infectious diarrhea annually, predominantly in children from low-middle income regions. Notably, in children, as well as human volunteers challenged with ETEC, diarrheal severity is significantly increased severity in blood group A (bgA) individuals. EtpA, is a secreted glycoprotein adhesin that functions as a blood group A lectin to promote critical interactions between ETEC and blood group A glycans on intestinal epithelia for effective bacterial adhesion and toxin delivery. EtpA is highly immunogenic resulting in robust antibody responses following natural infection and experimental challenge of human volunteers with ETEC. To understand how EtpA directs ETEC-blood group A interactions and stimulates adaptive immunity, we mutated EtpA, mapped its glycosylation by mass-spectrometry (MS), isolated polyclonal (pAbs) and monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) from vaccinated mice and ETEC-infected human volunteers, and determined structures of antibody-EtpA complexes by cryo-electron microscopy. Both bgA and mAbs that inhibited EtpA-bgA interactions and ETEC adhesion, bound to the C-terminal repeat domain highlighting this region as crucial for ETEC pathogen-host interaction. MS analysis uncovered extensive and heterogeneous N-linked glycosylation of EtpA and cryo-EM structures revealed that mAbs directly engage these unique glycan containing epitopes. Finally, electron microscopy-based polyclonal epitope mapping revealed antibodies targeting numerous distinct epitopes on N and C-terminal domains, suggesting that EtpA vaccination generates responses against neutralizing and decoy regions of the molecule. Collectively, we anticipate that these data will inform our general understanding of pathogen-host glycan interactions and adaptive immunity relevant to rational vaccine subunit design.

ABSTRACT

This study explores the efficacy of an intern's clinical guidebook in facilitating the transition of categorical internal medicine interns into the United States healthcare system. New interns, particularly foreign medical graduates, face multifaceted challenges during their initial year of residency. The research, conducted at Ascension Saint Joseph Hospital in Chicago, employed a quasi-experimental pre-post design involving 20 interns. Participants were provided with an intern's clinical guidebook, and their knowledge was assessed through pre and post exams. Results demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in overall knowledge, with mean scores increasing from 65% to 77.37%. Subgroup analysis revealed similar improvements among both male and female interns. Data confidentiality and ethical considerations were prioritized, with participant data anonymized and stored securely. Despite limitations, this study highlights the guidebook's potential to enhance intern education and improve the quality of care provided during the crucial transition period. Further research is recommended to validate and extend these findings.

Maintaining an optimal stress level is vital in our lives, yet many individuals struggle to identify the sources of their stress. As emotional stability and mental awareness become increasingly important, wearable medical technology has gained popularity in recent years. This technology enables real-time monitoring, providing medical professionals with crucial physiological data to enhance patient care. Current stress-detection methods, such as ECG, BVP, and body movement analysis, are limited by their rigidity and susceptibility to noise interference. To overcome these limitations, we introduce STRESS-CARE, a versatile stress detection sensor employing a hybrid approach. This innovative system utilizes a sweat sensor, cutting-edge context identification methods, and machine learning algorithms. STRESS-CARE processes sensor data and models environmental fluctuations using an XG Boost classifier. By combining these advanced techniques, we aim to revolutionize stress detection, offering a more adaptive and robust solution for improved stress management and overall well-being.•In the proposed method, we introduce a state-of-the-art stress detection device with Galvanic Skin Response (GSR) sweat sensors, outperforming traditional Electrocardiogram (ECG) methods while remaining non-invasive•Integrating machine learning, particularly XG-Boost algorithms, enhances detection accuracy and reliability.•This study sheds light on noise context comprehension for various wearable devices, offering crucial guidance for optimizing stress detection in multiple contexts and applications.

ABSTRACT

Background: Amino acid positron emission tomography (PET) imaging plays a significant role in the diagnosis of gliomas and in differentiating tumor recurrence from necrosis. In this study, the authors have evaluated the diagnostic efficacy of [99mTc]Tc-methionine single-photon emission computed tomography-computed tomography (SPECT-CT) in comparison with [11C]methionine PET-magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in delineating tumors. Methods: Thirty-one (primary: 16 and postoperative: 15) patients of confirmed (either MRI or histopathological proven) glioma underwent both [99mTc]Tc-methionine SPECT-CT and [11C]methionine PET-MRI. A comparative analysis was performed between SPECT, PET, and MR images to calculate the concordance between the modalities and to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of the [99mTc]Tc-methionine SPECT. Results: [99mTc]Tc-methionine SPECT showed comparable uptake in the tumor lesions in comparison to [11C]methionine PET. A significant and strong positive correlation was observed between the volume of tumor (Vt) in PET and Vt MR (p < 0.004). Likewise, a significant and strong positive correlation was found between Vt SPECT and Vt MR. [99mTc]-methionine has a sensitivity and specificity of 91% and 75%, respectively, compared with 82% and 100% for [11C]methionine in postoperative cases to differentiate the tumor recurrence from necrosis. The sensitivity and specificity of [99mTc]Tc-methionine was 92% and 100%, respectively, compared with 92% and 67% for [11C]methionine in primary tumors. Conclusion: [99mTc]Tc-methionine SPECT-CT is as equally good as [11C]methionine for diagnosing and differentiating it from necrosis especially in high-grade glioma.

ABSTRACT

Trans-cis photoisomerization is generally described by a model in which the reaction proceeds via a common intermediate having a perpendicular conformation around the rotating bond, irrespective of from which isomer the reaction starts. Nevertheless, such an intermediate has yet to be identified unambiguously, and it is often called the 'phantom' state. Here we present the structural identification of the common, perpendicular intermediate of stilbene photoisomerization using ultrafast Raman spectroscopy. Our results reveal ultrafast birth and decay of an identical, short-lived transient that exhibits a vibrational signature characteristic of the perpendicular state upon photoexcitation of the trans and cis forms. In combination with ab initio molecular dynamics simulations, it is shown that the photoexcited trans and cis forms are funnelled off to the ground state through the same, perpendicular intermediate.

A series of porous MOF materials, viz., Pdx@IRMOF-9 (x = 2, 5, and 10%) were synthesized by loading varying concentrations of Pd(II) on IRMOF-9. The synthesized MOF materials were characterized by ltravioletisible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy, Fourier transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analyses. UV, FT-IR, and PXRD data of Pd(II)@IRMOF-9 were found to be in line with those of IRMOF-9, which suggests that the structure of the IRMOF-9 remained intact upon Pd(II) loading. Surface morphology of IRMOF-9 showed sheet-like structures, and upon incorporation of Pd(II) to IRMOF-9, porous cauliflower-shaped MOFs were obtained. The SEM area mapping of Pd10%@IRMOF-9 confirmed the homogeneous dispersion of Pd(II) on IRMOF-9. BET measurements suggested an increase in the surface area as well as pore size upon incorporation of Pd(II) on IRMOF-9. Due to high porosity and high petal density, Pd10%@IRMOF-9 demonstrated degradation of seven organic dyes, namely, orange G, methylene blue, methyl orange, congo red , methyl red, rhodamine 6G, and neutral red. It showed excellent results with >90% dye degradation efficiency in case of cationic, anionic as well as neutral dyes. Degradation of organic dyes followed the pseudo-first-order kinetics. Kinetic parameters, KM and Vmax, were calculated using the double reciprocal Lineweaver-Burk plot and were found to be 13.2 µM and 26.68 × 10-8 M min-1, respectively. Recyclability studies of heterogeneous Pd10%@IRMOF-9 demonstrated the degradation of CR dye for five consecutive cycles without significant loss of its catalytic activity. Herein, a robust and efficient material for the degradation of organic dyes has been developed and demonstrated.

ABSTRACT

A new era in tumor classification, diagnosis, and prognostic evaluation has begun as a consequence of recent developments in the molecular and genetic characterization of central nervous system tumors. In this newly emerging era, molecular imaging modalities are essential for preoperative diagnosis, surgical planning, targeted treatment, and post-therapy evaluation of gliomas. The radiotracers are able to identify brain tumors, distinguish between low- and high-grade lesions, confirm a patient's eligibility for theranostics, and assess post-radiation alterations. We previously synthesized and reported the novel l-type amino acid transporter 1 (LAT-1)-targeted amino acid derivative in light of the use of amino acid derivatives in imaging technologies. Further, we have developed a single vial ready to label Tc-lyophilized kit preparations of diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid-bis-methionine [DTPA-bis(Met)], also referred to as methionine-diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid-methionine (MDM) and evaluated its imaging potential in numerous clinical studies. This review summarizes our previous publications on 99mTc-DTPA-bis(Met) in different clinical studies such as detection of breast cancer, as a prognostic marker, in detection of recurrent/residual gliomas, for differentiation of recurrent/residual gliomas from radiation necrosis, and for comparison of 99mTc-DTPA-bis(Met) with 11C-L-methionine (11C-MET), with relevant literature on imaging modalities in glioma management.

Prostate cancer is the second most commonly diagnosed malignancy in men worldwide. The prevalence has been increasing with significant differences between regions. This study assesses the prevalence of incidental prostate cancer detected in specimens removed during bladder outlet obstruction operation. A retrospective analysis of the records of patients who had either endoscopic or open prostatectomy from January 1998 to December 2021 was conducted. The variables analysed were age, procedure, date of surgery, and Gleason score. A total of 2,842 patients underwent surgery on the prostate gland during the study period. Most of the patients, i.e. 2,733 (96.2%), were pathologically diagnosed with benign prostatic hyperplasia, while only 110 (3.9%) had prostate cancer. The frequency of incidental prostate cancer following surgery for bladder outlet obstruction has decreased over the last two decades at our centre, possibly because of an increase in PSA testing.

Background: Recent years have seen a resurgence in utilization of partial knee replacement. One such device frequently used is Oxford partial knee implant (OPK). Deeper tibial bone cut while performing OPK replacement may risk early failure. Methods: We prospectively looked at early outcomes of a modified technique (MT) of OPK replacement adopted by our centre to save tibial bone stock at 24 months of follow up as compared to designer group described technique (DT) as a prospective cohort. Results: At 2 years follow up New Knee Society Score showed patient satisfaction (38.25 in DT vs 39.02 in MT, p value 0.10), objective (92.77 in DT vs 91.07 in MT, p value 0.21), expectation scores (14.77 in DT vs 14.85 in MT, p value 0.81) and activity (60.72 in DT vs 68.17 in MT, p value 0.79 were similar in MT group as compared to DT. The stair climbing ability (22.46 in MT vs 29.96 in DT, p value < 0.001) and getting up from chair (13.16 in MT vs 19.80 in DT, p value < 0.001), was better with MT group but most other patient performance scores were similar as assessed by DOP (Delaware Osteoarthritis Profile). Both groups had failure rate of 5% at 24 months follow up. Conclusion: MT resulted in similar early outcomes in terms of patient reported outcomes, satisfaction and performance as compared to DT group. The MT to save tibial bone stock did not compromise early outcomes and can be utilised in certain patients with higher risk of tibial failure.

OBJECTIVES: Diplazium esculentum (Retz.) Sw. is an edible vegetable fern of the Himalayan region with high nutritional and therapeutic value owing to its richness in various secondary metabolites and both macro and micronutrients. CONTENT: This updated review discusses the general traditional use, ethnopharmacology, phytochemistry, nutritional value, pharmacology, and toxicity concerns of D. esculentum. SUMMARY: The plant parts, viz. rhizomes, shoots, fronds and leaves, have immense ethnomedicinal importance, being traditionally used to cure several health disorders. Among other pharmacological effects, this botanical reveals excellent anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antifungal, antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-leishmanial, antioxidant, anaphylactic, antipyretic, anthelmintic and hepatoprotective activities, directly attributed to the presence of many secondary metabolites. From a pharmacological point of view, the excellent antioxidant potential of D. esculentum suggests its promising use for nutraceutical or functional food formulation purposes. OUTLOOK: Considering the evidences on popular ethnomedicinal uses of D. esculentum as an edible vegetable, its immense bio-potential, and multiple pharmacological roles, there is a huge need to evaluate its therapeutic applications in light of standard clinical trials.

Background: Differentiation between recurrence of brain tumor and radiation necrosis remains a challenge in current neuro-oncology practice despite recent advances in both radiological and nuclear medicine techniques. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the diagnostic performance of dynamic susceptibility contrast (DSC) perfusion magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) derived from diffusion-weighted imaging, and F18-fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography (F18-FDG-PET) in the differentiation between the recurrence of a high-grade glioma and radiation necrosis. Materials and Methods: Patients with a diagnosis of high-grade glioma (WHO Grades III and IV) who had undergone surgical resection of the tumor followed by radiotherapy with or without chemotherapy were included in the study. DSC perfusion, diffusion-weighted MRI, and PET scan were acquired on a hybrid PET/MRI scanner. For each lesion, early and delayed tumor-to-brain ratio (TBR), early and delayed maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax), normalized ADC ratio, and normalized relative cerebral blood volume (rCBV) ratio were calculated and the pattern of lesional enhancement was noted. The diagnosis was finalized with either histopathological examination or the characteristics on follow-up imaging. The statistical analysis using the receiver operator characteristic curves was done to determine the diagnostic performance of DSC perfusion, 18-F FDG-PET, and ADC in differentiation between tumor recurrence and radiation necrosis. Results: Fifty patients were included in the final analysis, 32 of them being men (64%). A cutoff value of early TBR >0.8 (sensitivity of 100% and specificity of 80%), delayed TBR >0.93 (sensitivity of 92.3% and specificity of 80%), early SUVmax >10.2 (sensitivity of 76.9% and specificity of 80%), delayed SUVmax >13.2 (sensitivity of 61.54% and specificity of 100%), normalized rCBV ratio >1.21 (sensitivity of 100% and specificity of 60%), normalized ADC ratio >1.66 (sensitivity of 38.5% and specificity of 80%), and Grade 3 enhancement (sensitivity of 100% and specificity of 60%) were found to differentiate recurrence from radiation necrosis. Early TBR had the highest accuracy (94.44%), while ADC ratio had the lowest accuracy (50%). A combination of early TBR (cutoff value of 0.8), late TBR (cutoff value of 0.93), and rCBV ratio (cutoff value of 1.21) showed a sensitivity of 100%, specificity of 92.3%, positive predictive value of 88.9%, negative predictive value of 93.7%, and an accuracy of 96.6% in discrimination between radiation necrosis and recurrence of tumor. Conclusion: F18-FDG-PET and DSC perfusion can reliably differentiate tumor recurrence from radiation necrosis, with early TBR showing the highest accuracy. ADC demonstrates a low sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy in differentiating radiation necrosis from recurrence. A combination of early TBR, delayed TBR, and rCBV may be more useful in discrimination between radiation necrosis and recurrence of glioma, with this combination showing a better diagnostic performance than individual parameters or any other combination of parameters.

BACKGROUND: Maize is an excellent fodder crop due to its high biomass, better palatability, succulency, and nutrition. Studies on morpho-physiological and biochemical characterization of fodder maize are limited. The present study aimed to explore the genetic variation in fodder maize landraces for various morpho-physiological traits and estimation of genetic relationship and population structure. METHODS AND RESULTS: The study on 47 fodder maize landraces revealed significant variation for all morpho-physiological traits except leaf-stem ratio. Plant height, stem girth, leaf-width and number of leaves showed positive correlation with green fodder yield. Morpho-physiological traits-based clustering grouped the landraces into three major clusters, whereas neighbour joining cluster and population structure analysis using 40 SSR markers revealed four and five major groups, respectively. Most landraces of Northern Himalaya-Kashmir and Ludhiana fall into a single group, whereas rest groups mainly had landraces from North-Eastern Himalaya. A total of 101 alleles were generated with mean polymorphic information content value of 0.36 and major allele frequency of 0.68. The pair wise genetic dissimilarity between genotypes ranged from 0.21 to 0.67. Mantel test revealed weak but significant correlation between morphological and molecular distance. Biochemical characterisation of superior landraces revealed significant variation for neutral detergent fibre, acid detergent fibre, cellulose and lignin content. CONCLUSION: Interestingly, significant, and positive correlation of SPAD with lignin content can be explored to bypass the costly affair of invitro quality assessment for digestibility parameters. The study identified superior landraces and demonstrated the use of molecular markers in genetic diversity assessment and grouping of genotypes for fodder maize improvement.

ABSTRACT

Positron emission tomography (PET) using O-(2-[18 F]fluoroethyl)-L-tyrosine ([18 F]FET) has shown great success in differentiating tumor recurrence from necrosis. In this study, we are reporting the experience of synthesis [18 F]FET by varying the concentration of TET precursor in different chemistry modules. TET precursor (2-10 mg) was used for the synthesis of [18 F]FET in an automated (MX Tracerlab) module (n = 6) and semiautomated (FX2N Tracerlab) module (n = 19). The quality control was performed for all the preparations. For human imaging, 220 ± 50 MBq of [18 F]FET was briefly injected into the patient to acquire PET-MR images. The radiochemical purity was greater than 95% for the final product in both modules. The decay corrected average yield was 10.7 ± 4.7% (10 mg, n = 3) and 8.2 ± 2.6% (2 mg, n = 3) with automated chemistry module and 36.7 ± 7.3% (8-10 mg, n = 12), 26.4 ± 3.1% (5-7 mg, n = 4), and 35.1 ± 3.8% (2-4 mg, n = 3) with semiautomated chemistry modules. The PET imaging showed uptake at the lesion site (SUVmax = 7.5 ± 2.6) and concordance with the MR image. The [18 F]FET was produced with a higher radiochemical yield with 2.0 mg of the precursor with substantial yield and is suitable for brain tumor imaging.

INTRODUCTION: The emergency department is the most affected by physical and verbal abuse and bullying in health care. Violence against health care workers not only affects their safety, but also their performance and motivation. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and associated determinants of violence against health care personnel. METHODS: A cross-sectional study design was used with 182 health care personnel at the emergency department tertiary care hospital of Karachi, Pakistan. Data were collected through a questionnaire comprised of 2 sections: (1) demographic questions and (2) statements to identify the prevalence of workplace violence and bullying among health care personnel. Nonprobability purposive sampling was used for recruitment. Binary logistic regression was used to identify the prevalence and determinants of violence and bullying. RESULTS: Most participants were younger than 40 years of age (n = 106, 58.2%). Participants were mainly nurses (n = 105, 57.7%) and physicians (n = 31, 17.0%). Participants reported experiencing sexual abuse (n = 5, 2.7%), physical violence (n = 30, 16.50%), verbal abuse (n = 107, 58.8%), and bullying (n = 49, 26.9%). The odds of experiencing physical violence were 3.7 times greater (confidence interval = 1.6-9.2) when there was not a procedure for reporting workplace violence compared to when there was a procedure. DISCUSSION: Attention is required to identify the prevalence of workplace violence. Creating effective policies and procedures for a reporting system would potentially lead to lowering violence rates and positively impacting health care workers' well-being.

ABSTRACT

Seawater intrusion has become a common problem in coastal and island aquifers with the rise in climate change that greatly affects the majority of developing countries. The island hydrology is very complex and associated with a unique set of environmental characteristics with the dynamic interaction of groundwater, surface water, and seawater. Further, Sea level rise, erratic rainfall, and over-extraction of groundwater triggered salt-water intrusion. A study on seawater intrusion and the effect of limestone caves on groundwater was carried out in middle Andaman using a combination of ionic ratios of major ions. A total of 24 samples and a reference sample from the sea were collected and analysed using ICP, spectrophotometer, and flame photometer. A combination of 10 ionic ratios Cl/HCO3, Ca/(HCO3 + SO4), (Ca + Mg)/Cl, Ca/Mg, Ca/Na, Cl/(SO4 + HCO3), Ca/SO4, K/Cl, Mg/Cl, and SO4/Cl was used to assess the dissolution of limestone minerals and the level of saltwater intrusion into groundwater. The geospatial method was used to extract and combine all the hydrogeochemical parameters and ionic ratios in the GIS platform. Durov plot was used for the interpretation of groundwater chemistry and the identification of natural processes controlling the hydrogeochemistry of the area. The dominance of Ca-HCO3 and Na-HCO3 was confirmed in 48% and 24% of the sample respectively. The equiline graph of chloride with other major ions showed the enrichment of alkali and alkaline earth metal salt in groundwater. Schoeller's diagram depicted the dominance of Cl, Ca, and the sum of CO3 and HCO3 in seawater near Mayabunder. The lower concentration of Na with respect to Cl (64%) and Ca (100%) showed the presence of a reverse ion exchange process. Further, the correlation matrix showed a strong relationship between Cl, K, Ca, and Na. The analysis of X-ray diffraction of the rock samples confirmed the presence of limestones such as Aragonite, Calcite, Chlorite, Chromite, Dolomite, Magnetite, and Pyrite in the study area. The integration of ionic ratios showed moderately affected and slightly affected saline regions in 44% and 54% of the region respectively. Finally, the role of tectonic activities and active lineaments connected to the sea was found to play a major role in the intrusion of seawater where interconnected faults created an opening for surface water to recharge groundwater leading to the deep aquifer.

Objectives: The survey aimed to assess trends and beliefs in the management of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) amongst orthopaedic surgeons in India. Methods: A survey was created and distributed among the various orthopaedic surgeons from India. The questionnaire included brief details of surgeons and their experience, clinical assessment, management strategies and the rehabilitation protocol. Results: 135 surgeons completed the survey. 35% of them were having experience of more than 12 years. A large number of surgeons were from government academic institutes (35.5%). The most common criteria for deciding about surgery was Clinical evaluation (94.8%). The most common graft choice was hamstring tendon (94%), and suspensory fixation on the femur side and interference screw on the tibial side (80%) is the most common fixation method. Almost two-thirds of surgeons in this survey use bracing to protect ACL graft in the initial phase. Conclusion: We presented the preferences amongst the group of surgeons on the management of ACL injuries. Hamstring tendon graft remains the most preferred graft for ACL reconstruction. Further, the suspensory loop on the femoral side and interference screw on the tibial side are the preferred fixation method. This group of surgeons is conservative in terms of the timing of surgeries and post-operative bracing. Level of evidence Level V, Expert Opinion.
