ABSTRACT

Background Acidosis, hypoxemia, and hypercarbia are symptoms of a syndrome known as perinatal asphyxia that occurs during the first and second stages of labor and shortly after delivery due to poor gas exchange. The Doppler technique is a non-invasive way to assess the risk of neurodevelopment damage in hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) that may be done at the patient's bedside without disturbing them. The study aims to evaluate cranial ultrasound findings in HIE and investigate the role of resistive index (RI) values assessed by color Doppler transcranial ultrasonography in predicting early morbidities in neonates with HIE within 72 hours of life. Methodology Prospective observational research was carried out at the north Karnataka region's tertiary newborn critical care unit. The study included 54 infants with HIE in total. The male-to-female ratio was 1.7:1, with 34 (63%) male and 20 (37%) female newborns. Results About 32 instances had grade I HIE, 8 had grade II HIE, and 14 had grade III HIE. In 35 instances (64.81%), the RI was normal; in 19 cases (35.19%), it was abnormal. Increased periventricular density and cerebral parenchyma echo density were common Doppler ultrasonography findings. Roughly 93% of people survived, and 7% of people died from HIE. Seizures (12.96%) and acute renal damage (33.33%) were the most frequent consequences. Conclusion In instances of HIE, the RI was revealed to be a favorable predictive indicator for newborn prognosis. Counseling and educating parents about early morbidities, anticipated long-term consequences, and the need for follow-up will all benefit from it. Additionally, color Doppler is a practical and secure diagnostic method for determining a newborn's level of HIE.

ABSTRACT

Background Learning disabilities occur in very young children, yet they are usually not noticed until the child reaches school age. These issues can affect the child's ability to perform activities of daily living and their ability to learn including academic activities. Occupational therapy can assist with improving their ability to learn which will also help their performance at school. Aims and objectives The present study was designed to investigate the impact of interoceptive programs on improving academic self-regulation and reducing behavioral problems among children with learning disabilities. The objectives of the study were to determine a learning disability through the use of the Learning Disability Checklist. The Academic Self-Regulation Questionnaire for Learning Disability (SRQ-A LD) was used to assess the degree of academic self-regulation, while the Behavior Rating Inventory for Executive Functioning-2 (BRIEF-2) was used to assess the degree of behavioral problems. The primary objective was to evaluate the efficacy of interoceptive programs to enhance academic self-regulation and lessen behavioral issues in the experimental group, as well as to find out the impact of conventional occupational therapy for children with learning disabilities in the control group. Methodology This was a quasi-experimental design with convenience sampling and selected samples (n=50), which were then split into two groups, an experimental group (n=25) and a control group (n=25), based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The experimental group received intervention based on interoception activities, while the control group received conventional occupational therapy. A pre-test and post-test were conducted to measure the changes. The study assessed 50 children in the range of 7 to 11 years, using an initial Madras Dyslexia Association Checklist. Academic self-regulation was assessed using SRQ-A LD. Behaviors were assessed using BRIEF-2. The duration of the study was six months, three sessions per week, lasting 45 minutes to an hour each. The statistical analysis was done with significance at a 1% alpha level using IBM SPSS version 29.0 (Armonk, NY: IBM Corp). Results The pre-test and post-test data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test and the Mann-Whitney test. The study found that the interoceptive program had an impact on academic self-regulation and behavioral problems among children with learning disabilities. The p-value of academic self-regulation was <0.001, and the p-value of the behavior rating inventory was <0.001, the alternate hypothesis was accepted. Thus, the results showed significant improvement in academic self-regulation and behavioral problems in the experimental group compared to the control group. Conclusion The results of the study showed that the Interoceptive program helped children with learning disabilities improve their academic self-regulation and have fewer behavioral issues. Interoception can positively regulate their behavior. For this reason, the primary therapeutic approach for children with learning disabilities can be the implementation of Interoceptive activities.

ABSTRACT

Patients with polycythemia vera (PV) develop various complications due to hyper-viscous blood, causing events such as ischemic stroke. There are other associated complications due to the dysfunction of platelet activity, causing hemorrhages. In our unusual case, we present a patient who came to the OPD complaining of slurring speech. An MRI was done and was suggestive of acute lacunar infarcts with changes in chronic bleed. CBC and hematocrit were consistent for PV, with the genetic marker JAK2 being positive.

ABSTRACT

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) stands as a prevalent complication in the eye resulting from diabetes mellitus, predominantly associated with high blood sugar levels and hypertension as individuals age. DR is a severe microvascular complication of both type I and type II diabetes mellitus and the leading cause of vision impairment. The critical approach to combatting and halting the advancement of DR lies in effectively managing blood glucose and blood pressure levels in diabetic patients; however, this is seldom achieved. Both human and animal studies have revealed the intricate nature of this condition involving various cell types and molecules. Aside from photocoagulation, the sole therapy targeting VEGF molecules in the retina to prevent abnormal blood vessel growth is intravitreal anti-VEGF therapy. However, a substantial portion of cases, approximately 30-40%, do not respond to this treatment. This review explores distinctive pathophysiological phenomena of DR and identifiable cell types and molecules that could be targeted to mitigate the chronic changes occurring in the retina due to diabetes mellitus. Addressing the significant research gap in this domain is imperative to broaden the treatment options available for managing DR effectively.

BACKGROUNDSubnational TB estimates are crucial for making informed decisions to tailor TB control activities to local TB epidemiology.METHODSA cross-sectional survey was conducted among 143,005 individuals in Tamil Nadu, India. Participants were screened for symptoms and underwent chest X-ray (CXR). Participants with symptoms of TB and/or abnormal CXR were tested for TB using Xpert, smear, and liquid culture.RESULTSThe prevalence of microbiologically confirmed pulmonary TB (MCPTB) was 212 (95% CI 184-239) per 100,000 population. The prevalence-to-notification ratio (P:N) in the state was 2.05 (95% CI 1.8-2.29). Low body mass index and diabetes together had a population attributable fraction of 54.15 (95% CI 45.68-61.97). Approximately 39% of the TB cases were asymptomatic and were identified only by CXR screening. In the general population, only 26.9% sought care at a health facility among those with symptoms suggestive of TB.CONCLUSIONThe programme needs to prioritise screening with CXR to potentially detect cases earlier and curtail the transmission and upscale molecular tests in the selected population to increase the yield of case finding. Innovative health education strategies must be devised to address health-seeking behaviour..

ABSTRACT

AIM: The present study compared the safety, efficacy, and tolerability of the new fixed-dose combination (FDC) of telmisartan 40 mg + bisoprolol 5 mg (TBP) tablets with the existing comparator FDC telmisartan 40 mg + metoprolol succinate ER 50 mg (TMS) tablets in patients with stage 1 and stage 2 hypertension. METHODOLOGY: The multicentric, double-blind, parallel-group, comparative, prospective, phase-III clinical study involved 264 subjects with stage 1 and stage 2 hypertension from 10 centres across India. The selected subjects were randomized into two groups: group A received the TMS and group B received the new FDC TBP. The primary endpoint was the mean change in seated systolic blood pressure (SeSBP) and seated diastolic blood pressure (SeDBP) from baseline to week 12 in both the control and study arms. The secondary endpoint was achieving the target of SeSBP <140 mmHg and SeDBP <90 mmHg from baseline to week 12 in both groups. Safety and tolerability parameters were evaluated in both groups based on adverse effects (AEs) reported by the patients and the physician. RESULTS: Both treatment groups exhibited a reduction in BP after 2 weeks of treatment, which was sustained until 12 weeks. The mean change in SeSBP and SeDBP at weeks 2, 6, and 12 compared to the previous visit showed statistical significance (p < 0.001) in all cases for both groups A and B. The mean changes in SeSBP and SeDBP from baseline to study end were numerically higher in group B than in group A. The mean difference in SeSBP from baseline to study end was significantly higher in group B compared to group A (p = 0.029). By week 12, 88.28 % and 89.84 % of subjects in group B achieved SeSBP <140 mmHg and SeDBP <90 mmHg respectively, while 86.71 % and 91.40 % of subjects in group A achieved the same targets. Reported AEs were mostly mild to moderate in both treatment groups, and no serious AEs or deaths were reported. Tolerability was rated as 'excellent' by 93.75 % of subjects in group B and 91.40 % of subjects in group A. CONCLUSION: Both the new FDC TBP and the existing comparator TMS combination therapy have comparable efficacy, tolerability, and safety for the management of stage 1 and stage 2 hypertension. ABSTRACT

One-third of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients experience various degrees of ocular manifestations, with immunosuppressants recommended as a treatment option. Targeted immune suppression via oral administration is challenging due to the harsh gastrointestinal tract environment combined with complex physiological barriers. Here, we report the efficacy of orally administered cyclosporine (CsA)-laden polymer nanoparticles decorated with the ligand - Gambogic Acid (P2Ns-GA-CsA) in sustained lymph node delivery. This is the first report demonstrating the CD71 specificity of P2Ns-GA-CsA in the CD71 knockout mouse model and the influence of spacer length in achieving target tissue bioavailability in a lupus mouse model. P2Ns-GA-CsA effectively regulates T-cell chemotaxis by PD-L1 at a 50 % lower dose compared to conventional CsA in a mouse model exhibiting lupus-associated corneal inflammation. Collectively, these results suggest the possibility for further development of P2Ns-GA to target a diverse range of lymphatic disorders.

ABSTRACT

Background Spinal dysraphism, characterized by incomplete closure of neural and bone spinal structures, manifests as congenital fusion abnormalities along the dorsal midline, involving the skin, subcutaneous tissue, meninges, vertebrae, and neural tissue. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), the preferred imaging modality for assessing spinal dysraphism across all age groups, provides direct visualization of the spinal cord without the need for contrast or ionizing radiation while also eliminating bone artifacts and allowing multiplanar imaging. The objective of this study was to evaluate the range of spinal dysraphism lesions and assess the significance of MRI in their evaluation. Methodology Thirty patients with suspected spinal dysraphism underwent evaluation at the Medical College Hospital and Study Centre in Vijayapur, India. This cross-sectional observational study included patients diagnosed or provisionally diagnosed with spinal dysraphism based on clinical and imaging profiles. Cases were identified through preliminary findings on radiographs. Results The study encompassed individuals aged one month to 20 years, with the largest proportion of patients (36.67%) falling within the 1-5-year age group. Spina bifida was the most prevalent spinal abnormality, accounting for 70% of cases. In 12 patients (40%), the most prevalent location of involvement was the lumbosacral spine. Conclusion MRI provides excellent tissue differentiation, particularly of lipomatous tissue, with reproducible and comprehensive section planes and relative operator independence. Moreover, MRI is beneficial for children with suspected spinal dysraphism as it can be performed without ionizing radiation, biological risks, or the need for intrathecal contrast media.

Secoviruses are single-stranded RNA viruses that infect plants. In the present study, we identified 61 putative novel secoviral genomes in various plant species by mining publicly available plant transcriptome data. These viral sequences represent the genomes of 13 monopartite and 48 bipartite secovirids. The genome sequences of 52 secovirids were coding-complete, and nine were partial. Except for small open reading frames (ORFs) determined in waikaviral genomes and RNA2 of torradoviruses, all of the recovered genomes/genome segments contained a large ORF encoding a polyprotein. Based on genome organization and phylogeny, all but three of the novel secoviruses were assigned to different genera. The genome organization of two identified waika-like viruses resembled that of the recently identified waika-like virus Triticum aestivum secovirus. Phylogenetic analysis revealed a pattern of host-virus co-evolution in a few waika- and waika-like viruses and increased phylogenetic diversity of nepoviruses. The study provides a basis for further investigation of the biological properties of these novel secoviruses.

Background A major development in noninvasive imaging modalities, computed tomographic enterography (CTE) has a number of benefits over conventional computed tomography (CT) and capsule endoscopy. Through the utilization of multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) technology, CTE expedites the assessment of small bowel diseases, especially in those segments that are not accessible through traditional endoscopy. This study's main goal is to thoroughly evaluate CTE's diagnostic accuracy for a range of small intestinal conditions. Methodology In this investigation, which is a prospective observational study, 40 patients, 25 men and 15 women, with suspected small intestinal disorders and ages ranging from 10 to 70 underwent CTE. To evaluate diagnosis accuracy, a combination of clinical symptoms, imaging data, and histopathological/ultrasonography findings were evaluated. Throughout the research procedure, ethical issues and statistical analysis were incorporated to guarantee validity and adherence to ethical norms. Results The most frequent findings on CTE were bowel thickening and mucosal hyperenhancement, which were seen in 25 (62.5%) and 20 (50%) of the patients, respectively. The majority of patients (65%) exhibited both the ileal and jejunal loops to be adequately distended in grade III. In 35% of the patients, grade II distensibility of the ileal and jejunal loops was seen. Conclusion When it comes to accurately detecting small intestinal disorders, CTE is superior. It evaluates extraintestinal, mural, and intraluminal diseases with efficacy, particularly in places that are difficult to reach. It is essential for directing clinical decisions because of its capacity to assess disease activity prior to endoscopy and see consequences.

Tanacetum nitens ( Boiss. & Noë)  Grierson is an aromatic perennial herb used in Turkish traditional medicine to treat headache, fever, and skin diseases. This study aimed to investigate the chemical composition, antioxidant, enzyme inhibition, and cytotoxic properties of T. nitens aerial parts. Organic solvent extracts were prepared by sequential maceration in hexane, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, and methanol while aqueous extracts were obtained by maceration or infusion. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and LC-DAD-MS analysis allowed the identification and quantification of different phytoconstituents including parthenolide, tanacetol B, tatridin B, quinic acid derivatives, ß-sitosterol, and glycoside derivatives of quercetin and luteolin. The type and amount of these phytochemicals recovered by each solvent were variable and significant enough to impact the biological activities of the plant. Methanolic and aqueous extracts displayed the highest scavenging and ions-reducing properties while the dichloromethane and ethyl acetate extracts exerted the best total antioxidant activity and metal chelating power. Results of enzyme inhibition activity showed that the hexane, ethyl acetate, and dichloromethane extracts had comparable anti-acetylcholinesterase activity and the latter extract revealed the highest anti-butyrylcholinesterase activity. The best α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibition activities were obtained from the hexane extract. The dichloromethane and ethyl acetate extracts exhibited the highest cytotoxic effect against the prostate carcinoma DU-145 cells. In conclusion, these findings indicated that T. nitens can be a promising source of biomolecules with potential therapeutic applications.

ABSTRACT

This study presents a new green solution combustion method (aloe vera gel extract as fuel) and chemical method (glucose as fuel) to synthesise Zn-doped nickel oxide nanoparticles (Zn:NiO NPs). The face centered cubic crystal structure (FCC) phase was validated by PXRD, while the produced samples' spongy, spherical, agglomerated, and porous characteristics were shown by electron microscopy. The energy band gap values of 4.21 eV and 4.09 eV, respectively, were deduced for green and chemically synthesized Zn:NiO NPs. The reversibility was demonstrated by cyclic voltammetry with a lower EO-ER value for the green-Zn:NiO electrode. The studies on electrochemical impedance confirmed strong conductivity for the NPs by demonstrating a low charge transfer resistance. The Zn:NiO NPs are easily convertible into a stable electrode material that may be used in supercapacitors. According to the findings, Zn:NiO is an economical and promising material for use in supercapacitors in the future.

With excellent mechanical properties and distinct solidification, the AZ31B series magnesium alloy has great potential for targeting engineering applications and synthesized via die casting process found a drawback on oxidation results porosity and reduced mechanical properties. Here, the magnesium alloy AZ31B series nanocomposite was synthesized with varied weight percentages of zirconium dioxide nanoparticles through a liquid metallurgy route with an applied stir speed of 200 rpm under an argon nature. With the help of a scanning electron microscope, the distribution of particles in the composite surface was found to be homogenous and void-free surface, which output results in less percentage of porosity (<1 %), and the composite contained 6 wt% ZrO2 offers superior yield strength (212 ± 3 MPa), tensile strength (278 ± 2 MPa), and impact strength of 16.4 ± 0.4 J/mm2. In addition, 8 wt% ZrO2 blended composite showed the maximum microhardness value (78.3 ± 1 HV). The best-enhanced result of NC3 (AZ31B/6 wt% ZrO2) is suggested for lightweight to high-strength structural applications.

Japanese Encephalitis (JE) is a mosquito borne re-emerging viral zoonotic disease. Sero-conversion in swine occurs 2-3 weeks before human infection, thus swine act as a suitable sentinel for predicting JE outbreaks in humans. The present study was undertaken with the objective of developing immunochromatographic strip (ICS) assay to detect recent infection of Japanese Encephalitis virus (JEV) in swine population. The two formats of ICS assay were standardized. In the first format, gold nanoparticles (GNP) were conjugated with goat anti-pig IgM (50 µg/ml) followed by spotting of recombinant NS1 protein (1 mg/ml) of JEV on NCM as test line and protein G (1 mg/ml) as control line. In the format-II, GNP were conjugated with rNS1 protein (50 µg/ml) followed by spotting of Goat anti-pig IgM (1 mg/ml) as test line and IgG against rNS1 (1 mg/ml) as control line. To decrease the non- specific binding, blocking of serum and nitrocellulose membrane (NCM) was done using 5% SMP in PBS-T and 1% BSA, respectively. Best reaction conditions for the assay were observed when 10 µl of GNP conjugate and 50 µl of 1:10 SMP blocked sera was reacted on BSA blocked NCM followed by reaction time of 15 mins. Samples showing both test and control line were considered positive whereas samples showing only control line were considered negative. A total of 318 field swine sera samples were screened using indirect IgM ELISA and developed ICS assay. Relative diagnostic sensitivity and specificity of format-I was 81.25% and 93.0% whereas of format-II was 87.50% and 62.93%, respectively. Out of 318 samples tested, 32 were positive through IgM ELISA with sero-positivity of 10.06% while sero-positivity with format-I of ICS was 8.1%. Owing to optimal sensitivity and higher specificity of format-I, it was validated in three different labs and the kappa agreement ranged from 0.80 to 1, which signifies excellent repeatability of the developed assay to test field swine sera samples for detecting recent JEV infection.

ABSTRACT

Functional polymer-lipid hybrid nanoparticles (H-NPs) are a promising class of nanocarriers that combine the benefits of polymer and lipid nanoparticles, offering biocompatibility, structural stability, high loading capacity, and, most importantly, superior surface functionalization. Here, we report the synthesis and design of highly functional H-NPs with specificity toward the transferrin receptor (TfR), using a small molecule ligand, gambogic acid (GA). A fluorescence study revealed the molecular orientation of H-NPs, where the lipid-dense core is surrounded by a polymer exterior, functionalized with GA. Urolithin A, an immunomodulator and anti-inflammatory agent, served as a model drug-like compound to prepare H-NPs via traditional emulsion-based techniques, where H-NPs led to smaller particles (132 nm) and superior entrapment efficiencies (70 % at 10 % drug loading) compared to GA-conjugated polymeric nanoparticles (P-NPs) (157 nm and 52 % entrapment efficiency) and solid lipid nanoparticles (L-NPs) (186 nm and 29 % entrapment efficiency). H-NPs showed superior intracellular accumulation compared to individual NPs using human small intestinal epithelial (FHs 74) cells. The in vitro efficacy was demonstrated by flow cytometry analysis, in which UA-laden H-NPs showed excellent anti-inflammatory properties in cisplatin-induced injury in healthy human proximal tubular cell (HK2) model by decreasing the TLR4, NF-κß, and IL-ß expression. This preliminary work highlights the potential of H-NPs as a novel functional polymer-lipid drug delivery system, establishing the foundation for future research on its therapeutic potential in addressing chemotherapy-induced acute kidney injury in cancer patients.

ABSTRACT

Background: Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) is an excellent non-invasive imaging tool in the assessment of patients with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). Few studies have analysed the findings in primary (idiopathic) DCM. Objectives: To study the CMR features in primary DCM. Methods: We conducted a descriptive observational study on 20 adult patients with suspected or confirmed primary DCM. Each patient underwent a dedicated 3-Tesla CMR scan, and the findings were evaluated. Results: Seventeen patients had systolic dysfunction with a reduced ejection fraction and elevated end-diastolic volume, 19 patients had contractile dysfunction in the form of global left ventricular hypokinesia, 13 patients showed no abnormal delayed contrast enhancement with gadolinium administration, and 7 patients showed abnormal late gadolinium enhancement patterns. Conclusion: In patients with primary DCM, CMR is a powerful diagnostic tool that can definitively establish the diagnosis, assess the severity of the disease, predict the risk of future adverse cardiovascular outcomes, check for complications, and assist in future follow-ups. Study synopsis: What the study adds. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) is an excellent non-invasive imaging tool in the assessment of patients with primary dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). Findings include global ventricular enlargement, systolic dysfunction (ejection fraction <40%), and elevated end-diastolic (≥140 mL) and end-systolic volumes. Global abnormal wall contractility is often seen. In DCM there is either no abnormal gadolinium enhancement or curvilinear mid-myocardial or subepicardial late gadolinium enhancement, unrelated to a coronary artery distribution.Implications of the findings. In patients with primary DCM, CMR provides powerful diagnostic and prognostic information. Enhanced awareness and understanding of this relatively uncommon condition among clinicians and radiologists would be of benefit in patient management and treatment.

ABSTRACT

The design of a power electronic interface for high voltage difference DC buses is a key aspect in DC microgrid applications. A multi-port non isolated interleaved high-voltage gain bidirectional converter, which facilitates bidirectional power transfer and islanded operation in a DC microgrid, is presented in this paper. The forward high-voltage transfer ratio is achieved using a voltage multiplier circuit, and the high-gain step-down power conversion is performed using a resonant power module. A novel power transfer selection algorithm is proposed to control power flow among the interfaces of the RES, ESS, and DC grid converters, which utilizes the net power difference as the basis for switching the converter. The proposed converter is simulated for a 24 V PV source, 12 V battery, and 400 V DC grid interface using MATLAB/SIMULINK. A 200 W hardware prototype is implemented. The simulation results for voltages, currents, and power flow among RES, ESS, and microgrid DC bus proved an excellent voltage regulation, efficient power conversion, and a feasible duty cycle range with high voltage gain. These observations are validated through equivalent experimental results. A comparison is made regarding achieved gain, component sizing, achievable power transfer modes, efficiency, and control complexity with existing converters for DC microgrid applications. The presented topology proved to be a better interface with multiple-mode support with high efficiency.

ABSTRACT

Background Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common malignant neoplasm of the oral cavity. The tumor microenvironment (TME) is a dynamic ecosystem composed of components contributed by both the tumor and the host. The immune cells of TME, mainly CD4+ and CD8+ tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs), suppress the proliferation of cancer cells and play a crucial role in the progression of OSCC. The present study aims to analyze the immunohistochemical expression of CD4+ and CD8+ TILs in OSCC and to compare and correlate them with clinicopathological parameters. Methodology A total of 75 formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded samples of cases diagnosed with primary OSCC were immunostained with CD4+ and CD8+ antibodies and their expression was compared with the clinicopathological parameters. Results There was a significant positive correlation between CD4+ and CD8+ expression (r = 0.655, p = 0.001). Both CD4+ (r = -2.37, p = 0.041) and CD8+ (r = -0.348, p = 0.002) expressions negatively correlated with the TNM stage (r = -2.37, p = 0.041) of OSCC. CD8+ expression positively correlated with histopathological grade (r = 0.288, p = 0.012). Conclusions The study findings suggest that CD4+ cells are essential to maintain and sustain CD8+ TIL-mediated anti-tumor response. CD4+ and CD8+ TILs are key players in cell-mediated adaptive immunity and prevent tumor progression and metastasis. Strikingly, the higher grade of tumors despite heavy CD8+ infiltration may possibly be due to cancer immunoediting.

ABSTRACT

Introduction Hypertension (HTN) is considered one of the most frequent life-threatening noncommunicable illnesses. Because HTN has a significant public health impact on cardiovascular health status and healthcare systems in India, it is critical to study Indian clinicians' approaches to HTN management. Methodology This was a cross-sectional, multicentric, non-interventional, and single-visit study that aimed to gather data from across India and examine sociodemographic characteristics and clinician treatment choices in the management of HTN in Indian individuals. As a result, building an information platform about HTN is critical to preventing and controlling this growing burden. Results A total of 5298 patients were recruited in the study from 1061 study centers across India. Among the study patients, 66.67% were females with a mean age of 53.95 ± 14.4, and 66.28% of hypertensive patients presented comorbidities. Among the known risk factors for HTN, 2227 (44.5%) were smokers, while 2587 (51.7%) had sedentary lifestyles. A family history of HTN in either one or both parents was seen in 1076 (21.50%) patients. In management, 40.40% of patients were on anti-hypertensive monotherapy. Amlodipine (41.8%) in monotherapy and amlodipine + metoprolol (32.34%) in combination therapy were the most commonly prescribed antihypertensive. Conclusion Management of HTN can be improved by imparting patient education and awareness about the need for medication compliance, lifestyle modifications, and regular follow-up clinic visits.
