ABSTRACT

A new diagnostic criterion, the index pathology of a knee joint, application of which permits to optimize diagnostic process and gives possibility to escape mistakes while planning of surgical treatment, was elaborated. Prognostication of a gonarthrosis formation, basing on discriminant analysis, permits to achieve a maximal accuracy in the arthrosis stage diagnosis or possibility of its occurrence in immediate time.

ABSTRACT

Data on in vitro studies of the effect of nondamaging laser irradiation on peripheral blood lymphoid cells of donors and cancer patients are reported including the results of experimental investigations carried out in patients with breast cancer and malignant melanoma. Laser irradiation is demonstrated to potentiate the immunological parameters both in healthy individuals and patients, the effect being more marked in cancer patients. A different action of red and blue laser irradiation on the immune system was revealed. The evidence obtained may be useful in working out the immunotherapeutic methods in cancer management.

ABSTRACT

Patients with early breast cancer received single intratumoral injections of 10,000, 100,000 or 200,000 IU alpha-interferon before radical surgery. Interferon was found to produce a dose-dependent cytotoxic and immune-boosting effect. A dose of 100,000 and 200,000 IU caused drug pathomorphosis in tumor and brought down immunologic indexes of peripheral blood. Administration of 10,000 IU stimulated T-cell-mediated immunity.

ABSTRACT

In vitro treatment of lymphocytes with eleutherococcal preparation produced an immune-boosting effect both in cancer patients and healthy controls. The results of a randomized study pointed to eleutherococcus' capability of stimulating general non-specific resistance and immunologic vigor in the course of cytostatic and radiation treatment for breast cancer. Since eleutherococcus is free of toxicity and allergenicity in prolonged treatment, it is indicated in patients receiving intensive antitumor therapy. Drug concentration should be tailored individually.

ABSTRACT

In vitro laser irradiation of peripheral blood lymphocytes increased the activity of T and B lymphocytes, determined by active rosette-forming cells and by immunofluorescence. Time and dose-dependent of irradiation was studied. The increase of lymphocyte activity was found, both in normal controls and in cancer patients.

ABSTRACT

The authors report the results of studying the cell immunity by skin delayed hypersensitivity response to DNCB and tuberculin as well as the reactions of spontaneous rosette-formation, blasttransformation to PHA, inhibition of leucocyte migration in 88 patients with soft tissue sarcomas, in 12 patients with desmoids, the control group comprised 19 patients with benign soft tissue tumors. The study has indicated a reliably impaired cell immunity in patients with sarcomas.

ABSTRACT

Patients with malignant skin melanoma were given different kinds of immunotherapy; nonspecific immunotherapy with BCG vaccine, adaptive immunotherapy with methotrexate or phytohemagglutinin activated autolymphocytes, and also a combination of polychemotherapy with BCG. The state of cell immunity was determined prior to, during and at the end of the therapy, in accordance with the courses. As a result of the conducted therapy an increased level of cell immunity was observed, that usually corresponded to clinical development of the disease. At the same time, the increase in immune response indices due to continuous administration of BCG vaccine is not related with the clinical course, while the persistent anergy or reduced level of cell immunity during this kind of therapy is a poor prognostic sign.

ABSTRACT

In 23 patients with teratoblastomas of the testes the authors studied nonspecific reactivity of T-lymphocytes by means of the reaction of spontaneous rosette-formation. A definite correlation was shown between the reaction indices, chorionic gonadotropin, the Abelev reaction and clinical course of the disease. It is concluded that the complex therapy should be conducted under the control of the corresponding immunological indices.
