ABSTRACT

The article analyzes of the early and long-term outcomes in 113 patients who underwent surgical treatment for lumbosacral disc herniations. The first group of patients (n=32) underwent microdiscectomy in a combination with radiofrequency destruction (RFD) of the facet nerves. The control group patients (n=81) underwent microdiscectomy. This study demonstrates the advantage of combining RFD with open surgery. In this case, regression of both nerve root and back pain is achieved, which greatly accelerates rehabilitation of patients, restoration of their work ability, and therefore their return to normal life.

ABSTRACT

Effects of 21 phenyl ethyl-substituted derivatives of 3-oxypyridine (3-OP), 6 adamantine derivatives of pyridine (PD) and actoprotectors bemithyl and bromanthane on physical performance (PP) were evaluated during treadmill testing of mice in ordinary conditions and following vibration. It was stated that in ordinary conditions PP was improved by eleven 3-OP derivatives and 3 adamantine PDs; nine 3-OP derivatives and 3 adamantine PDs had a positive effect following vibration. The actoprotective effect of the compounds depends on their chemical composition, dose and a background. A phenyl ethyl-substituted 3-OP derivative (code CK-132) administered in ordinary conditions and following vibration surpassed significantly the other compounds tested or compared with (bemithyl and bromanthane) in this experiment with regard to the spectrum of effective doses (5-100 mg/kg) and the actoprotective activity (PP improved by 32 to 110%). The compound (code CK-132) can be further test validated as an actoprotector against the impacts of vibration.

ABSTRACT

The method of dynamic endoscopic observation was used in examination of 288 patients after resections of the stomach. Four types of the inflammatory reaction of the gastric stump mucosa and of the anastomosed intestine were found out depending on the degree and spread of the inflammatory alterations during the postoperative period. A correlation was established between the type of inflammatory and immunomorphological changes and the probability of the appearance of peptic ulcer of the anastomosis.

ABSTRACT

A critical level of the world human population growth, at which there will be a change in the growth tendency, was estimated on the basis of the available data on the world human population growth and the theory of critical levels in development (Zhirmunskii and Kuz'min, 1990). The critical value (N1) estimated from the world population 7,400,000,000 will be reached in 2003. However, when estimated on the basis of total biomass of human population (N2, seem less accurate), it will be reached in 2008, when the total numbers attain 9,100,000,000.

ABSTRACT

There is presented the experience of treatment of 81 patients with equinus-cavus-varus deformation of 102 feet of different etiology by means of closed application of Volkov-Oganesyan-Povarov's hinged-distraction apparatus to restore the form and function of foot and talocrural articulation. For impartial assessment of the outcomes of treatment there has been developed and applied the scheme of multimark grading system of clinico-functional state of feet. The grade of the foot form and function restoration is appraised by 15 indices in comparison with the same in normal state. The sum of marks equals to 100 in case of optimum outcome. In accordance with the developed scheme there have been appraised 54 feet with the sum of marks obtained from 45 to 91 and their statistic reliability. The proposed scheme allows to make an impartial assessment of the outcomes of treatment of the equinus-cavus-varus deformation of feet and can be applied in practical institutions.

ABSTRACT

The treatment of severe aggravated forms of equino-excavato-varus deformation of the feet of various etiology is rather difficult because the resections performed to eliminate the deformation require the removal of large quantities of the bone tissue and are traumatic, and when accompanied by neurotrophic disturbances they are usually contraindicated. At the Central Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedics 65 patients with acutely pronounced feet deformations have been treated with Volkov-Organesian-Povarov distraction apparatuses. In 34 patients the deformation was accompanied by various neurotrophic disturbances. The results were good in 61 feet, satisfactory in 18 feet and bad in 4 feet. The experiment has demonstrated the efficacy of apparatus treatment, especially in the cases of aggravated forms of feet deformations, where this method often is the only one available.

ABSTRACT

Recent years have witnessed an improvement in cancer patient registration procedures (due to the introduction of the automated system for cancer information processing), cancer control establishment network and the level of oncological awareness of general practitioners. The need of taking fresh measures aimed at improving diagnosis of malignancies of the stomach, breast and cervix uteri which are the leading factors of morbidity and mortality in the Chuvash ASSR is discussed.

ABSTRACT

It was found during experiments using three models of hypoxia (hypobaric, normobaric, hemic) in mice that derivatives of 3-hydroxypyridine possess an antihypoxic effect. They are as active as sodium hydroxybutyrate but less active than gutimine. A clear-cut dependence of the antihypoxic activity on the radical character in the 2nd position of 3 hydroxypyridine was revealed. The presence of a hydroxy group in the 3rd position of pyridine ring was shown to be very important for the antihypoxic properties. The data suggesting different degrees of involvement of GABA and benzodiazepine receptors in realization of the antihypoxic effect were obtained.

ABSTRACT

It was revealed in experiments on mice, that 3-hydroxypyridine derivatives possess marked anticonvulsive activity, especially in convulsions induced by GABA-ergic substances, less in corasol, maximal electroshock and strychnine induced ones. The anticonvulsive activity in the rows of 2-substituted and 2.6-disubstituted derivatives of 3-hydroxypyridine gets increased due to the introduction of larger in volume alkyl substitutes into the 2nd molecule position. Among the 2,6-disubstituted 3-hydroxypyridine derivatives, agents were revealed that are able to enhance hyperkinesis induced by 5-hydroxytryptophan.

ABSTRACT

A study of retinal sensibilized photochemiluminescence of trypsin is carried out. A kinetic scheme of processes responsible for the luminescence appearance according to which chemiluminescence depends on protein groups reaction with singlet oxygen is suggested. The values of a number of kinetic parameters of these processes are determined. The effect of 3-oxypyridine on retinal sensibilized photochemiluminescence is studied. The 3-oxypyridine addition to protein solution with retinal before radiation considerably decreases the intensity and light sum of the luminescence. 2-Oxypyridine photoprotective action is due to their reaction with primary and peroxide radicals of protein. The values of rate constants of interaction of protein radicals with 2,6-dimethyl-3-oxypyridine and 2-ethyl-6-methyl-3-oxypyridine are determined.

ABSTRACT

Effect of different substances, such as known radioprotectors, inhibitors of free radical processes from the class of 3-oxipyridines and methanol on the characteristics of X-chemoluminescence of human serum albumin solutions and glycyl-triptophane is studied. Possible causes of various effects of added substances on X-chemoluminescence are considered: reactions of the additives with hydroxyl radicals, with primary free radicals and peroxid radicals of protein and peptide. In most substances studied protection is partially concerned with their reactions with hydroxyl radicals and partially with the reaction between additives and free radicals of peptide and protein. When methanol and inhibitors of the 3-oxipyridine class are used as acceptors the reaction between acceptors' free radicals and protein molecules makes a large contribution which results in a decrease of protection. Kinetic data and rate constants of reactions qualitatively describing the effects under study are obtained.

ABSTRACT

To describe the development of biological systems, the law of allometric growth is widely used but the limits of its applicability, which determine the transition to a qualitatively new stage of development, are still established by the morphological and functional characteristics only. The differential equation of the allometric law is generalized by taking into account the influence of prehistory of the system development on its growth rate. As a result of study of the equation obtained, the limits of system development under the allometric law were established: ratio between the initial and final values of the argument is constant and equal to ee = 15.15... This result reveals a critical ratio between the system parameters, typical of the developmental periods described by power functions. The importance of the ratio obtained should be examined on the basis of detailed analysis of experimental data on the processes of allometric development.
