ABSTRACT

We have studied the oxidant-antioxidant, serum protease inhibitor systems and serum proteolytic activity in patients suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis complicated with chronic bronchitis. The indices of these systems were shown to be unconnected with the duration of tuberculosis, its clinical appearances and concomitant chronic bronchitis, but mark severity of the specific process.

ABSTRACT

The ratio of cells in the bronchoalveolar washing was studied as was the functional state of phagocytizing cells, with assessment thereof having been done in the pathogenesis of chronic bronchitis in those workers exposed to quartz-containing dust. The conducted studies showed the endopulmonary cytogram to be characterized by a high degree alveolar neutrophilia (28.2 +/- 1.3) in chronic bronchitis. Disturbances in local immunity were also evidenced by the dysfunction of alveolar macrophages (decline in adhesiveness and absorptivity against the background of apparent activation of intracellular oxygen-dependent metabolism), and by the decrease of the level of secretory immunoglobuline A.

ABSTRACT

Follow up of 93 patients with chronic obstructive bronchitis and bronchial asthma enabled the authors to trace the effect of magnetophorotherapy combined with pathogenetic treatment on the disease progress, external respiration function, cardiovascular system, and immune responsiveness. It was shown that magnetophorotherapy is an effective therapy for bronchial obstruction, favouring the recovery and improvement of respiratory function, characteristics of the flow-volume curve. It also exerts a beneficial effect on different components of immunity.
