Selenium concentration in blood, glutathionperoxidase (GSH-Px) activity in erythrocytes and lipid peroxides in plasma were studied in patients with ischemic heart disease, hypertrophic (HCMP) and dilated cardiomyopathy (DCMP). Patients with IHD, HCMP and DCMP revealed depressed activity of GSH-Px with activation of lipid peroxides associated with lowered selenium content in blood. The selenium content in blood was lower in patients with severe forms of IHD Daily intake of 300 micrograms selenium with "Selena" during a month increases selenium concentration by 71% in patients with IHD and DCMP. This increase change inversely with primary selenium concentration in plasma. Plasma Malone dialdehyde concentration decreased by 17%. The results obtained suggest participation of selenium in cardiomyopathy and IHD pathogenesis, thus forming a basis for selecting the patients with selenium deficiency for its further correction with "Selena."

[Seasonal dynamics of the intercorrelations of the regulatory parameters of cardiac rhythm in irradiated rats]. / Sezonnaia dinamika interkorreliatsii reguliatornykh parametrov serdechnogo ritma u obluchennykh krys.

A study of the structural and functional organization of cardiac rhythm in rats in various seasons of irradiation was carried out by the method of correlation analysis in the time course of radiation disease. Essential seasonal differences in the formation and value of correlation interconnections of cardiac rhythm parameters in rats, differing in the initial state of vegetative homeostasis were determined.

[Relation between the hypotensive effect of triampur and its pharmacokinetics in patients with hypertension]. / Zavisimost' gipotenzivnogo effekta triampura ot ego farmakokinetiki u bol'nykh gipertonicheskoi bolezn'iu.

The hypotensive effect of triampur was studied in 39 patients with first- and second-stage essential hypertension, as was the pharmacokinetics of triamterin, the main constituent of triampur. A relationship is demonstrated between the curve area, blood triamterin peak, clearance and cumulative excretion, on the one hand, and the hypotensive effect, on the other. Triamterin pharmacokinetic studies may be used for the screening of hypertensive patients as potential candidates for triampur treatment. Alongside other causes, low blood concentrations of the drug in the course of treatment may be associated with its low efficiency.

[Effect of smoking on various cardiohemodynamic indices in patients with angina pectoris and in healthy persons]. / Vliianie kureniia na nekotorye pokazateli kardiogemodinamiki u bol'nykh so stenokardiei i zdorovykh lits.

Instrumental examination of 47 patients with angina pectoris and of 48 healthy individuals, including polycardiography and tetrapolar rheography was used to study the influence of smoking on the cardio-vascular system. Individual reactions to smoking are described as well as the influence of chronic smoking. Changes of cardiohaemodynamic parameters before and after physical exercise showed that the myocardium needs more oxygen. Differences in the influence of smoking on the healthy persons and the patients are due to chronic ischaemic heart disease and myocardial ischaemia.
