ABSTRACT
Carcinoma of the urachus is a rare entity with poor prognosis. Calcification, a deformed bladder apex, and lateral ureteral displacement have been described as radiographic findings, although radiology has been considered to be of limited value in establishing the diagnosis. Two cases are reported in which computed tomography (CT) contributed to the diagnosis and management. The association of a calcified suprapubic mass on CT together with a history of the passage of blood and mucus per urethra is suggestive of the diagnosis.

In 26 deaths from the neonatal unit with a histologic diagnosis of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), the histologic stage was compared to the radiologic stage according to the criteria described by Northway and Rosan. In 18 patients (69%), the histologic stage corresponded exactly to the radiologic stage. In the remaining eight patients (31%), there was a difference of one stage. If the 14 cases of Stages I and II were taken together there would be a discrepancy of one stage between the histologic and radiologic stages in 50%. However, with Stages III and IV the discrepancy was only 8.3%. There appears to be better correlation as the severity of BPD increases.

Two cases of spontaneous aorto-caval fistula are reported. In the first, following laparotomy for an erroneous diagnosis of acute appendicitis, retrograde aortography was conclusive. In the second case, an attempted renal angiogram for acute renal failure and hematuria failed but a flush aortic injection showed the fistula.
