ABSTRACT

This study explored the feasibility of employing hyperspectral imaging (HSI) technology to quantitatively assess the effect of silicon (Si) on lead (Pb) content in oilseed rape leaves. Aiming at the defects of hyperspectral data with high dimension and redundant information, this paper proposed two improved feature wavelength extraction algorithms, repetitive interval combination optimization (RICO) and interval combination optimization (ICO) combined with stepwise regression (ICO-SR). The entire oilseed rape leaves were taken as the region of interest (ROI) to extract the visible near-infrared hyperspectral data within the 400.89-1002.19 nm range. In data processing, Savitzky-Golay (SG) smoothing, detrending (DT), and multiple scatter correction (MSC) were utilized for spectral data preprocessing, while recursive feature elimination (RFE), iteratively variable subset optimization (IVSO), ICO, and the two enhanced algorithms were employed to identify characteristic wavelengths. Subsequently, based on the spectral data of preprocessing and feature extraction, partial least squares regression (PLSR) and support vector regression (SVR) methods were used to construct various Pb content prediction models in oilseed rape leaves, with a comparison and analysis of each model performance. The results indicated that the two improved algorithms were more efficient in extracting representative spectral information than conventional methods, and the performance of SVR models was better than PLSR models. Finally, to further improve the prediction accuracy and robustness of the SVR models, the whale optimization algorithm (WOA) was introduced to optimize their parameters. The findings demonstrated that the MSC-RICO-WOA-SVR model achieved the best comprehensive performance, with Rp2 of 0.9436, RMSEP of 0.0501 mg/kg, and RPD of 3.4651. The results further confirmed the great potential of HSI combined with feature extraction algorithms to evaluate the effectiveness of Si in alleviating Pb stress in oilseed rape and provided a theoretical basis for determining the appropriate amount of Si application to alleviate Pb pollution in oilseed rape.

ABSTRACT

High-energy exciton emission could allow single-component multi-colour display or white light-emitting diodes. However, the thermal relaxation of high-energy excitons is much faster than the photon emission of them, making them non-emissive. Here, we report quantum dots with light hole-heavy hole splitting exhibiting strong high-energy exciton electroluminescence from high-lying light holes, opening a gate for high-performance multi-colour light sources. The high-energy electroluminescence can reach 44.5% of the band-edge heavy-hole exciton emission at an electron flux density Φe of 0.71 × 1019 s-1 cm-2 - 600 times lower than the photon flux density Φp (4.3 × 1021 s-1 cm-2) required for the similar ratio. Our simulation and experimental results suggest that the oscillator strength of heavy holes reduces more than that of light holes under electric fields. We attribute this as the main reason for strong light-hole electroluminescence. We observe this phenomenon in both CdxZn1-xSe-ZnS and CdSe-CdS core-shell quantum dots exhibiting large light hole-heavy hole splittings.

ABSTRACT

The control region (CR) regulates the replication and transcription of the mitochondrial genome (mitogenome). Some avian mitogenomes possess two CRs, and the second control region (CR2) may enhance replication and transcription; however, the CR2 in lark mitogenome appears to be undergoing loss and is accompanied by tandem repeats. Here, we characterized six lark mitogenomes from Alaudala cheleensis, Eremophila alpestris, Alauda razae, and Calandrella cinerea and reconstructed the phylogeny of Passerida. Through further comparative analysis among larks, we traced the evolutionary process of CR2. The mitochondrial gene orders were conserved in all published lark mitogenomes, with Cytb-trnT-CR1-trnP-ND6-trnE-remnant CR2 with tandem repeat-trnF-rrnS. Phylogenetic analysis revealed Alaudidae and Panuridae are sister groups at the base of Sylvioidea, and sporadic losses of CR2 may occur in their common ancestor. CR sequence and phylogeny analysis indicated CR2 tandem repeats were generated within CR2, originating in the ancestor of all larks, rather than inherited from CR1. The secondary structure comparison of tandem repeat units within and between species suggested slipped-strand mispairing and DNA turnover as suitable models for explaining the origin and evolution of these repeats. This study reveals the evolutionary process of the CR2 containing tandem repeat in Alaudidae, providing reference for understanding the evolutionary characteristics and dynamics of tandem repeats.

With the gradual increase in energy demand in global industrialization, the energy crisis has become an urgent problem. Due to high heat storage density, small volume change, and nearly constant transition temperature, phase change materials (PCMs) provide a promising method to store thermal energy. In this work, we designed and fabricated three kinds of porous metal structures with hexagonal, rectangular, and circular pores and explored the phase change process of PCMs within them. A two-dimensional numerical model was established to investigate the heat transfer process of PCMs within different shapes of porous metal structures and analyze the influence of heat source location on the thermal performance of the thermal storage units. Visualization experiments were also carried out to reveal the melting process of PCMs within different porous metal structures by a digital camera. The results show that paraffin in a porous metal structure with hexagonal pores has the fastest melting rate, while that in a porous metal structure with circular pores has the slowest melting rate. Under the bottom heating mode, the melting time of the paraffin in porous metal structures with hexagonal pores is shortened by 18.6% compared to that in porous metal structures with circular pores. Under the left heating mode, the corresponding melting time is shortened by 16.7%. These findings in this work will offer an effective method to design and optimize the structure of porous metal and improve the thermal properties of PCMs.

ABSTRACT

Phthalate acid esters (PAEs) are one of the most widely used plasticizers globally, extensively employed in various decoration materials. However, studies on the impact of these materials on indoor environmental PAE pollution and their effects on human health are limited. In this study, forty dust samples were collected from four types of stores specializing in decoration materials (flooring, furniture boards, wall coverings, and household articles). The levels, sources, exposure doses, and potential health risks of PAEs in dust from decoration material stores were assessed. The total concentrations of Σ9PAE (the sum of nine PAEs) in dust from all decoration-material stores ranged from 46,100 ng/g to 695,000 ng/g, with a median concentration of 146,000 ng/g. DMP, DEP, DBP, and DEHP were identified as the predominant components. Among all stores, furniture board stores exhibited the highest Σ9PAE (159,000 ng/g, median value), while flooring stores exhibited the lowest (95,300 ng/g). Principal component analysis (PCA) showed that decoration materials are important sources of PAEs in the indoor environment. The estimated daily intakes of PAEs through non-dietary dust ingestion and dermal-absorption pathways among staff in various decoration-material stores were 60.0 and 0.470 ng/kg-bw/day (flooring stores), 113 and 0.780 ng/kg-bw/day (furniture board stores), 102 and 0.510 ng/kg-bw/day (wall covering stores), and 114 and 0.710 ng/kg-bw/day (household article stores). Particularly, staff in wall-covering and furniture-board stores exhibited relatively higher exposure doses of DEHP. Risk assessment indicated that although certain PAEs posed potential health risks, the exposure levels for staff in decoration material stores were within acceptable limits. However, staff in wall covering stores exhibited relatively higher risks, necessitating targeted risk-management strategies. This study provides new insights into understanding the risk associated with PAEs in indoor environments.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Intraoral thyroglossal duct cyst is a relatively rare clinical disease. This article reviews the diagnosis and treatment process of 7 patients and explores the clinical characteristics of diagnosis and treatment of intraoral thyroglossal duct cyst in combination with past literature reports. METHOD: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 7 cases of intraoral thyroglossal duct cyst admitted to the Otolaryngology ward of Dalian Municipal Central Hospital from January 2017 to January 2024. The cases were recorded in terms of gender, age, symptoms, physical signs, radiological examinations, surgical methods, and postoperative complications. All cases were followed up, and the latest follow-up results were recorded. RESULTS: Among the 7 cases, 6 patients underwent laryngoscopic and radiological examinations before surgery, and 1 child was found to have a cyst during surgery. All cases were diagnosed with intraoral thyroglossal duct cyst and treated with plasma radiofrequency surgery. None of the patients had postoperative complications, and no recurrence was found in the six-month follow-up after discharge. CONCLUSION: Intraoral thyroglossal duct cyst is rare in clinical practice. It is important to pay attention to its differential diagnosis clinically, and careful review of images is required before surgery. Cryoablation with low-temperature plasma radiofrequency is not only minimally invasive and has a quick recovery but also has few complications and a low recurrence rate. It is a safe and effective treatment method that is worthy of clinical promotion. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level 3.

ABSTRACT

Due to the high incidence of smartphone addiction and its harmful effects on health in recent years, it has received widespread attention from society. This study aims to examine the association between smartphone addiction and sleep quality among college students, and assess the correlation with physical exercise in a non-interventional, cross-sectional study design. The study utilized data from the 2022 Chinese College Health Tracking Survey. A total of 4670 students participated in and completed the questionnaire. The test tools comprised the smartphone addiction tendency scale, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and the physical activity rating scale. The average score of the college students' smartphone addiction was 39.230±14.931, and the proportion of college students with average and or very poor sleep quality was 52.6%. Mobile phone addiction among college students is negatively correlated with physical exercise (r = -0.101, p<0.01), and positively correlated with sleep quality (r = 0.287, p<0.01. Physical exercise had a significant regulatory effect on the behavior relationship between smartphone addiction and sleep quality (ΔR2 = 0.194, p<0.001). Smartphone addiction has a significant impact on college students' sleep quality. The higher the tendency towards smartphone addiction, the poorer the sleep quality of college students. Physical exercise plays a regulatory role in the relationship between smartphone addiction and sleep quality of college students.

ABSTRACT

Objectives: This study aimed to explore the effect and mechanism of Yunkang oral liquid (YK) on polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Methods: PCOS model rats were prepared by injecting exogenous androgen dehydroepiandrosterone, and YK was administered simultaneously for 28 days during modeling. The morphology of ovaries and uterus was observed using H&E staining, and serum levels of testosterone (T), luteinizing hormone (LH), and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) were determined by radioimmunoassay. Additionally, serum lipids (TG, HDL-c), blood glucose (GLU), and aminotransferase (AST, ALT) levels were detected. The expression of androgen receptor (AR) protein was determined by Western blotting. Results: YK treatment resulted in reduced serum levels of T, LH and FSH, ameliorated ovarian polycystic-like pathological changes and uterine morphology in PCOS rats, and decreased serum TG, GLU, AST and ALT levels, elevated serum HDL-c levels, and improved abnormalities of glycolipid metabolism accompanying PCOS. Moreover, YK decreased the expression of ovarian AR in PCOS rats. Conclusions: This study indicates that YK may protect the ovaries by inhibiting the expression of AR, which could be a potential treatment for PCOS.

ABSTRACT

Thermal dynamics play a pivotal role in offshore ecosystems, influencing a multitude of ecological and biogeochemical processes. Assessing how water temperature (WT) responds to climate change is vital for the sustainable development of marine ecosystems. Despite the scarcity of long-term sea surface temperature (SST) data, this study reconstructs SSTs from 1973 to 2020 in China's coastal zones using the data-driven Air2water model. A probabilistic approach was applied to investigate the joint dependency structures between air temperature (AT) and WT at offshore oceanic stations in China, focusing on variations during periods of decelerated and accelerated warming. The results indicate that the Air2water model performs well in reconstructing SSTs of the coastal zone of China. Furthermore, the joint probability of AT-WT events, characterized by bimodal distributions, tends to increase during accelerated warming. This suggests intensified extreme SST events in the coastal zone of China due to global warming, with the significant warming primarily related with regional oscillations, atmospheric dynamics, and the complex temperature trends in the regional marine environment. These findings highlight the escalating impact of global warming on marine ecosystems in China's coastal regions, underscoring the urgency of developing adaptive strategies to mitigate these effects.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Minimally invasive hepatectomy for difficult lesions located in posterosuperior segments (segments I, IVa, VII and VIII) remains challenging. The value of robotic liver resection (RLR) compared with laparoscopic liver resection (LLR) for posterosuperior segments is controversial. Therefore, we performed this meta-analysis to validate the safety and efficacy of RLR in posterosuperior segments. METHODS: The Medline, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library electronic databases were searched to identify available research published up to October 2023. Statistical analysis was performed with RevMan software version 5.3. RESULTS: Six studies with a total of 2289 patients (RLR: n = 749; LLR: n = 1540) were included in this meta-analysis. The RLR group had less intraoperative blood loss (WMD = -119.54 ml, 95% CI: -178.89 to -60.19, P < 0.0001), fewer blood transfusions (OR = 0.56, 95% CI: 0.39 to 0.80, P = 0.001), a lower conversion rate (OR = 0.37, 95% CI: 0.23 to 0.61, P < 0.0001), and a shorter operative time (WMD = -27.16 min, 95% CI: -35.95 to -18.36, P < 0.00001). DISCUSSION: Compared with LLR, RLR for lesions in the posterosuperior segments could be safe and effective, and it has superior surgical outcomes.

Introduction: This study explored the correlative factors of falls among the older adult with cognitive impairment, to provide distinct evidence for preventing falls in the older adult with cognitive impairment compared with the general older adult population. Methods: This study was based on a cross-sectional survey, with an older adult population of 124,124 was included. The data was sourced from the Elderly Care Unified Needs Assessment for Long-Term Care Insurance in Shanghai. Binary and multivariable logistic regression analyses were conducted sequentially on the correlative factors of falls. Multivariable logistic regression was performed on variables that were significant, stratified by cognitive function levels. Results: The incidence of fall in the past 90 days was 17.67% in this study. Specific variables such as gender (male), advanced age (≥80), residence with a elevator (or lift), mild or moderate disability, quality of sleep (acceptable/poor) were negatively correlated with falls, while higher education level, living alone, residence with indoor steps, unclean and untidy living environment, MCI or dementia, chronic diseases, restricted joints, impaired vision, and the use of diaper were positively correlative factors of falls. Comparing with older adult with normal cognitive functions, older adult with dementia faced a higher risk of falling due to accessibility barrier in the residence. For general older adults, less frequency of going outside and poor social interactions were positively correlated with falls, while for older adult with cognitive impairments, going outside moderately (sometimes) was found positively correlated with falls. Older adults with cognitive impairments have increased fall risks associated with chronic diseases, restricted joints, and the use of diaper. The risk of falling escalated with the greater number of chronic diseases. Discussion: For older adult with cognitive impairments, it is advisable to live with others. Additionally, creating an accessible living environment and maintaining the cleanness and tidiness can effectively reduce the risk of falls, particularly for those with MCI or dementia. Optimal outdoor activity plans should be developed separately based on the cognitive function of older adults. Older adult with dementia who have comorbidities should be paid special attention in fall prevention compared to the general older adult population.

ABSTRACT

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the predominant malignancy of the digestive tract, ranks as the third most common cause of cancer-related mortality globally, significantly impeding human health and lifespan. Emerging immunotherapeutic approaches have ignited fresh optimism for patient outcomes. This investigation probes the link between 731 immune cell phenotypes and HCC through Mendelian Randomization and single-cell sequencing, aiming to unearth viable drug targets and dissect HCC's etiology. Methods: We conducted an exhaustive two-sample Mendelian Randomization analysis to ascertain the causal links between immune cell features and HCC, utilizing publicly accessible genetic datasets to explore the causal connections of 731 immune cell traits with HCC susceptibility. The integrity, diversity, and potential horizontal pleiotropy of these findings were rigorously assessed through extensive sensitivity analyses. Furthermore, single-cell sequencing was employed to penetrate the pathogenic underpinnings of HCC. Results: Establishing a significance threshold of pval_Inverse.variance.weighted at 0.05, our study pinpointed five immune characteristics potentially elevating HCC risk: B cell % CD3- lymphocyte (TBNK panel), CD25 on IgD+ (B cell panel), HVEM on TD CD4+ (Maturation stages of T cell panel), CD14 on CD14+ CD16- monocyte (Monocyte panel), CD4 on CD39+ activated Treg ( Treg panel). Conversely, various cellular phenotypes tied to BAFF-R expression emerged as protective elements. Single-cell sequencing unveiled profound immune cell phenotype interactions, highlighting marked disparities in cell communication and metabolic activities. Conclusion: Leveraging MR and scRNA-seq techniques, our study elucidates potential associations between 731 immune cell phenotypes and HCC, offering a window into the molecular interplays among cellular phenotypes, and addressing the limitations of mono-antibody therapeutic targets.

Machine learning methods have seen increased application to geospatial environmental problems, such as precipitation nowcasting, haze forecasting, and crop yield prediction. However, many of the machine learning methods applied to mosquito population and disease forecasting do not inherently take into account the underlying spatial structure of the given data. In our work, we apply a spatially aware graph neural network model consisting of GraphSAGE layers to forecast the presence of West Nile virus in Illinois, to aid mosquito surveillance and abatement efforts within the state. More generally, we show that graph neural networks applied to irregularly sampled geospatial data can exceed the performance of a range of baseline methods including logistic regression, XGBoost, and fully-connected neural networks.

BACKGROUND: The development of gut-liver axis metabolic immune crosstalk is intimately associated with intestinal barrier disorder, intestinal SCFAs-Th17/Treg immunological imbalance, and disorders of the gut microbiota. Prior research has discovered that Dendrobium officinale National Herbal Drink (NHD), a traditional Chinese medicine drink with enhanced immunity, may enhance the immunological response in animals with impaired immune systems brought on by cyclophosphamide by repairing intestinal barrier function and controlling turbulence in the gut microbiota. However, whether NHD can further improve the gut-liver axis metabolic immune crosstalk and its related mechanisms need to be systematically studied. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study is to clarify the function and mechanism of NHD in enhancing the gut-liver axis metabolic immunological crosstalk brought on by excessive alcohol intake. METHODS: In this work, we set up a mouse model to analyze the metabolic and immunological crosstalk involving the gut-liver axis across 7 weeks of continuous, excessive drinking. At the same time, high and low doses (20,10 ml/kg) of NHD were given by gavage. The effect of NHD on improving the metabolism of gut-liver axis was evaluated by blood lipid, liver lipid deposition, liver function and intestinal pathophysiology. By measuring serum immunological indices, intestinal barrier, and intestinal immune barrier, the impact of NHD on enhancing immune and intestinal barrier function was assessed. Furthermore, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, 16S rRNA, Western blot, q-PCR and other methods were used to detect gut microbiota, SCFAs-GPR41/43 pathway, intestinal Th17/Treg immune cells and PPAR-α-NPC1L1/SREBP1 pathway to elucidate the mechanism by which NHD enhances the gut-liver axis' metabolic immune crosstalk. RESULTS: Our study demonstrated that NHD has the potential to improve the pathophysiological damage caused by gut-liver axis in model mice. NHD also ameliorated the disorder of lipid metabolism. In addition, it regulated the levels of peripheral blood T cell immunity and serum immune factors. And NHD can restore intestinal mechanical and immune barrier damage. NHD has a favorable impact on the quantity of beneficial bacteria, including uncultured_bacterium_g__norank_f__muribaculacea and uncultured_bacterium_g__Turicibacter. Additionally, it raised the model mice's levels of SCFAs (n-butyric acid, isovaleric acid, etc.). This resulted in the promotion of intestinal GPR41/43-ERK1/2 expression and the reshaping of intestinal CD4+T cell Th17/Treg homeostasis. As a consequence, colon IL-22 and IL-10 levels increased, while colon IL-17A levels decreased. Lastly, NHD raised the amount of intestinal IAP/LPS, regulated the development of PPAR-α-NPC1L1/SREBP1 pathway in gut-liver axis, and improve lipid metabolism disorder. CONCLUSIONS: Our study found that NHD can improve the gut-liver axis metabolic immune crosstalk in model mice caused by excessive drinking. The mechanism might be connected to how NHD controls gut microbiota disorders in model mice, the activation of intestinal SCFAs-GPR41/43 pathway, the remodeling of Th17/Treg immune homeostasis of intestinal CD4+T cells, the improvement of IAP/LPS abnormality, and further mediating the PPAR-α-NPC1L1/SREBP1 pathway of lipid metabolism in gut-liver axis.

BACKGROUND: In AFP-negative hepatocellular carcinoma patients, markers for predicting tumor progression or prognosis are limited. Therefore, our objective is to establish an optimal predicet model for this subset of patients, utilizing interpretable methods to enhance the accuracy of HCC prognosis prediction. METHODS: We recruited a total of 508 AFP-negative HCC patients in this study, modeling with randomly divided training set and validated with validation set. At the same time, 86 patients treated in different time periods were used as internal validation. After comparing the cox model with the random forest model based on Lasso regression, we have chosen the former to build our model. This model has been interpreted with SHAP values and validated using ROC, DCA. Additionally, we have reconfirmed the model's effectiveness by employing an internal validation set of independent periods. Subsequently, we have established a risk stratification system. RESULTS: The AUC values of the Lasso-Cox model at 1, 2, and 3 years were 0.807, 0.846, and 0.803, and the AUC values of the Lasso-RSF model at 1, 2, and 3 years were 0.783, 0.829, and 0.776. Lasso-Cox model was finally used to predict the prognosis of AFP-negative HCC patients in this study. And BCLC stage, gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT), diameter of tumor, lung metastases (LM), albumin (ALB), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and the number of tumors were included in the model. The validation set and the separate internal validation set both indicate that the model is stable and accurate. Using risk factors to establish risk stratification, we observed that the survival time of the low-risk group, the middle-risk group, and the high-risk group decreased gradually, with significant differences among the three groups. CONCLUSION: The Lasso-Cox model based on AFP-negative HCC showed good predictive performance for liver cancer. SHAP explained the model for further clinical application.

ABSTRACT

Hundreds of scientific documents have reported on the application of indocyanine green (ICG) in hepatobiliary surgery in the past 13 years, but few bibliometric studies have been conducted. This study aimed to identify the situations of authors, countries/regions, institutions, journals, and hot topics in this field. The overall status and prospects of the current research in this field can be elucidated by bibliometric analysis. Publications from 2008 to 2021 were retrieved from the Web of Science (WoS) Core Collection. The search terms included "liver," "hepatic," "gallbladder," "bile duct," "surgery," "hepatectomy," "ICG," "indocyanine green," and related synonyms. The full records of the search results were exported in text, and the cooperation network and hot topics were evaluated and visualized using CiteSpace software. The number of publications increased between 2008 and 2021. A total of 1527 publications were included in the results, and the frequency of citations was 30,742. The largest proportion of the publications emanated from Japan, and the majority of the papers were published by Kokudo. Tian Jie contributed the largest number of papers in China. Research was relatively concentrated among one country/region. The latest hotspots, "preservation" and "resistance", frequently occurred. Cooperation between authors, countries, and institutions needs to be strengthened for high-quality research. Recent studies have focused on hepatectomy, bile duct resection, liver transplantation, and tumors in this field. Future research may focus on other aspects, such as liver preservation and resistance.

ABSTRACT

Due to the increase in nanoplastics (NPs) abundance in aquatic environments, their effects on phytoplankton have aroused large research attention. In this study, 100 nm sized polystyrene NPs were chosen to investigate their effecting performance and mechanisms on a typical dinoflagellates Alexandrium tamarense. The results indicated the population growth and photosynthetic efficiencies of A. tamarense were significantly inhibited by NPs exposure, as well as the increase in cellular total carotenoids and paralytic shellfish toxins (PSTs). Meanwhile, the cellar ROS levels increased, corresponding to the increased activities or contents of multiple antioxidant components, including SOD, CAT, GPX, GR, GSH and GSSG. The transcriptional results support the physiological-biochemical results and further revealed the down-regulation of genes encoding the light reaction centers (PSI and PSII) and up-regulation of genes encoding the antioxidant components. Up-regulation of genes encoding key enzymes of the Calvin cycle and glycolytic pathway together with the TCA cycle could accelerate organic carbon and ATP production for A. tamarense cells resistant to NPs stress. Finally, more Glu and acetyl-CoA produced by the enhanced GSH cycle and the glycolytic pathway, respectively, accompanied by the up-regulation of Glu and Arg biosynthesis genes supported the increase in the PST contents under NPs exposure. This study established a data set involving physiological-biochemical changes and gene information about marine dinoflagellates responding to NPs, providing a data basis for further evaluating the ecological risk of NPs in marine environments.

ABSTRACT

To quickly obtain rice plant phenotypic traits, this study put forward the computational process of six rice phenotype features (e.g., crown diameter, perimeter of stem, plant height, surface area, volume, and projected leaf area) using terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) data, and proposed the extraction method for the tiller number of rice plants. Specifically, for the first time, we designed and developed an automated phenotype extraction tool for rice plants with a three-layer architecture based on the PyQt5 framework and Open3D library. The results show that the linear coefficients of determination (R2) between the measured values and the extracted values marked a better reliability among the selected four verification features. The root mean square error (RMSE) of crown diameter, perimeter of stem, and plant height is stable at the centimeter level, and that of the tiller number is as low as 1.63. The relative root mean squared error (RRMSE) of crown diameter, plant height, and tiller number stays within 10%, and that of perimeter of stem is 18.29%. In addition, the user-friendly automatic extraction tool can efficiently extract the phenotypic features of rice plant, and provide a convenient tool for quickly gaining phenotypic trait features of rice plant point clouds. However, the comparison and verification of phenotype feature extraction results supported by more rice plant sample data, as well as the improvement of accuracy algorithms, remain as the focus of our future research. The study can offer a reference for crop phenotype extraction using 3D point clouds.
