[Determination of the urinary secretion of beta 2-microglobulin combined with sequential renal scintigraphy using H123 for the early diagnosis of pyelonephritis in children]. / La determinazione dell'escrezione urinaria della beta 2 microglobulina associata alla scintigrafia renale sequenziale con H123 per la diagnosi precoce di pielonefrite nell'infanzia.

The acute pyelonephritis diagnosis in the infancy is often known very late or it is even underestimate that's why the general adopted criteria normally give no a certainty of the exact centre and the real damage entity. For this reason the authors have adopted a diagnostic protocol, which is based on the association of the urinary excretion dosage of beta 2 microglobulin, with sequential renal scan with Hippuran 123. In cases when the urinary beta 2 microglobulin was increasing, we could check a correspondent alteration of scintigraphic secretory phase. All that has permitted, in whale cases, of establishing with precision and at the right time the centre and the renal damage entity.

[Isolated thrombosis of the splenic vein in an infant. Splenectomy and reimplantation of splenic tissue]. / Trombosi isolata della vena lienale in un lattante. Splenectomia e reinnesto del tessuto splenico.

The authors report a case of an infant affected by isolated thrombosis of splenic vein. They stress the necessity of a precious diagnosis in order to prevent the haemorragic consequences of distrectual portal hypertension. Splenectomy, the only therapeutic mean considered in these patients, has been followed, in our patient, by reimplantation of splenic tissue, in order to prevent the septic complicances (mainly due to pneumococcus) frequently occurring in splenectomized patients.
