ABSTRACT

The authors present cytological and clinical features of six cases of medullary carcinoma of the thyroid. They are quoting a review of the literature about the cytological picture of medullary carcinoma of the thyroid and they draw attention to the advances of immunocytology.

ABSTRACT

The authors present an account on Sjögren's syndrome--clinical manifestations, diagnosis, pathogenetic aspects and treatment. The diagnosis was based on three findings: keratoconjunctivitis sicca, stomatodynia--xerostomia and other immunological, diseases. The authors used different immunological examinations, bioptic examination of the oral mucosa and parotid glands. As to gastroenterological examinations, the gastric secretion is examined according to Lambling's method, the gastroduodenum is subjected to radiographic examination, endoscopy is performed as well as a bioptic examination of the gastroduedenal mucosa.

ABSTRACT

The authors examined antibodies against antigen of gastric parietal cells using the method of reaction of complement-binding and the immunofluorescence test in 662 patients. Concurrently they examined in 443 patients of this group also antibodies against thyroglobulin. The group comprised 312 men and 350 women. For statistical evaluation the chi 2 test was used. Antibodies against the antigen of parietal cells were positive at the level of significance p less than 0.05 in the group with other diseases, at the level of significance of p less than 0.01 in dyspeptic syndrome, and at the level of significance p less than 0.001 in hypothyroidism and in chronic hepatopathies. The immunofluorescence test was statistically significant at the level of p less than 0.01 only in duodenal ulceration, at the level of p less than 0.001 in dyspeptic syndrome, hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, chronic hepatopathies, chronic pancreatitis, cholecystopathies, nephropathies and in the group of other diseases. Thyroid antibodies were positive with titres of p less than 1: 50 in 5.63, with titres of p less than 1: 5000 in 3.03%. The mentioned disease have not only pathomorphological and aetiological similarities but there is also serological overlapping.

ABSTRACT

The authors analyze the possibilities and importance of angiographic examinations in the clinical differential diagnosis of patients with atypical epigastric complaints. They demonstrate that in congenital anomalies of the arteries tripus Halleri the examinations do not make it possible to assess hypoperfusion of the epigastric organs. Based on data in the literature they point out that there is often disagreement between clinical symptoms and pressure gradients of intravasally angiographically stenoses of the trunk of the coeliac vein found on operation. From hitherto assembled results it may be, however, expected that two-dimensional Doppler ultrasonic evaluation of the blood flow through the blood vessels will contribute towards the objectivization of the assessment of the blood supply of the epigastric organs. The non-invasive examination can be used also during activity of organs or after administration of drugs.

ABSTRACT

The authors describe the submicroscopical structure of surface epithelial cells of the mucosa and cells of the stomach gland cervix in men. On the basis of electronmicroscopic studies of bioptic samples of the stomach mucosa the surface epithelium of the stomach mucosa in men was found to be covered with high cylindrical cells showing typical small, relatively low microvilli at the luminal side with numerous mucous granules in the supranuclear zone of the cells. The basal part of the cell is extremely dense containing numerous ribosomes, a Golgi apparatus and mitochondriae. Isthmic cells were found to differ from surface cells by the location of the nucleus and the amount of mucous granules, which are larger and granular in the rule. The cells of this zone are mutually connected by desmosomes. The granular endoplasmic reticulum is present at a relatively lesser amount as compared to the former group of cells. These cervical cells are of importance from the viewpoint of regeneration and may differentiate into the other cell types of the stomach mucosa.
