ABSTRACT

The present study investigates a series of 89 lymphomas of the head and neck seen over a 40-year period. The lymphomas were classified according to the Kielclassifikation and staged using the Ann Arbor system. A total of 78 patients had a non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, 50 high grade and 28 low grade. Eleven patients had Hodgkin's disease. Fifty-seven cases were extra-nodal and 52 nodal; 20 were combined. The 5-year survival with Hodgkin's disease was 52.2%, with non-Hodgkin's disease, 66.5%. Low- and high-grade lymphomas had the same 5-year survival (P = NS). Stages I and II had a better prognosis than stages III and IV (P = 0.3).

ABSTRACT

In animal experiments on domestic pigs the behaviour of hyperthermically denatured autogenic compact bone grafts after orthotopic replantation was investigated histologically. It was shown that the inductive osteogenetic celldifferentiation of the lair tissue caused by the autogenetic osteoimplantation depends on the location relationship of the replanted bone grafts to the lair bone tissue. This differentiation had progressed after 14 and 21 days further in the upper indifference area than in the contact and fissure healing area.

ABSTRACT

Congenital melanotic tumors are among the very rare tumors of early childhood. Their histogenesis and biological significance are still controversial today. The ideas of an odontogenic origin and of a neuroectodermal pathogenesis of these tumors range among the most frequently advocated hypotheses. Until about 1970 this type of tumor was almost always referred to as benign. Meanwhile there has been a change in the assessment of the character of congenital melanotic tumors. Above all, this is due to the fact that malignant cases have been repeatedly reported since 1970. Apart from an extensive review of the literature, 2 own cases are described which were treated surgically. The histological evaluation of the tumor material supports the assumption that these tumors are of odontogenic origin.

ABSTRACT

The re-use of resident bone transplants after hyperthermic denaturalization is demonstrated in radiologically, clinically, and histologically in the lower jaw of the domestic pig. Periosteal and enosteal osteogenic effect is induced.

ABSTRACT

The author deals with the results from the interviewing of oral surgery patients on their problems concerning the sending and the admission to the hospital, with special attention to the problems of waiting for admission, the familiarization with the clinical environment and the improvement suggestions of the patients. The conclusions concern tasks arising from the medical and dental care for inpatients as well as for outpatients.

ABSTRACT

Due to unfavourable local and general conditions, the treatment of carcinoma of the tongue still yields unsatisfactory results. The authors ascertained that 101 patients with carcinoma of the tongue (68 males and 37 females), having an average age of 65.2 years, had been treated at their clinic within a period of 27 years (1948--1974). Only 21% of them survived five years. In this connexion, certain questions, which are essential in the authors' opinion, are discussed. Furthermore, the patients are subdivided with regard to different aspects.
