ABSTRACT

The article discusses the results of treatment of acute ischemia of the pleura in 60 children with the use of intracavitary laser therapy. The empyema cavity was irradiated through a quartz flexible monocrystal light guide. The authors studied the effect of helium-neon laser beam on the empyema microflora, the condition of immunity, and the specific features of the clinical course of acute empyema of the pleura. Treatment by helium-neon laser radiation promotes rapid closure of bronchopleural fistulas, reduces the period of treatment, causes an immunocorrection effect, and does not exert a bactericidal effect on the flora.

ABSTRACT

Following local microwave exposure (460 MHz, 120 mW/cm2) of rabbits using fluorescent probes and chemiluminescent analysis, conformational rearrangements in nuclear and cytoplasmic membranes and in thymus cell chromatin of the animals as well as changes in the intensity of the lipid free radical peroxidation were seen. The character of the changes observed depended both on the localization of the exposure and on the number of exposures.

ABSTRACT

The decrease in the rate of lipid peroxidation and the increase in te fluorescence of chlortetracycline, bound with calcium ions absorbed on membrane surface after exposure thereof to decimeter waves, were revealed in myocardium cell membranes. Opposite changes were observed after the effect of p- chlormercuribenzoate . The effect of decimeter waves compensated the p- chlormercuribenzoate -induced changes.
