ABSTRACT

In this paper we carried out an immunohistochemical study of cyclin D1 (DCS6 ) expression in a series of 195 patients with laryngeal carcinoma that were diagnosticated, treated and followed at the Department of Otolaryngology at "Virgen de la Salud" Hospital (Toledo, Spain) for a time of 5 years. In the cases with lymph node metastasis we also studied cyclin D1 expression at this level. Furthermore we have analysed the value of cyclin D1 expression as a prognostic factor (tumor recurrence, deads due to cancer and survival) and we evaluate the relationship between cyclin D1 expression and other clinic and pathologic parameters.

ABSTRACT

This article report four cases of schwannomas originating in the cervical peripheral nervous branches, which were operated by ENT Department between 1991 and 2004. The difficulty on differential diagnosis and possible complications after the surgery are commented. Speaking of these cases, reference is done about the manage of post surgical neuropathy, very common after interventions on neural or perineural tumour of orocervicofacial area.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

The amyloidosis is a uncommon and rare entity. It is a condition characterized by the extracellular deposition of homogeneous, eosinophilic proteinaceous material in the form of fibrils called «amyloid». This situation make a disfunction of the homeostasy in the affected place. In this letter we present three cases of localized laryngeal amyloidosis diagnosed between 1990 and 2004. Diagnosis and treatment were made in the three cases by direct laringoscopic and conventional microsurgery. Also we expose a actualised bibliographic review about studies more recent

ABSTRACT

Clinical findings, histopathology, therapeutic management and evolution of 8 cases of laryngeal verrucous carcinomata, treated at Virgen de la Salud Hospital from 1981 till 1997, are discussed. With the excuse of perform a retrospective perusal of our series, the AA. review the medical literature regarding possible new questions about this uncommon growth: as radiotherapy versus surgery and aetiological link of the tumor with the human papilloma virus.

ABSTRACT

The AA. report the case of a 68-year-old man, treated in their ENT-Department, presenting with amyloid accumulations in the larynx in the context of systemic amyloidosis associated to a multiple myeloma. Review of diagnostic methods in order to identify the lesion and the general malady as well. Approach to the adequate treatment.

ABSTRACT

Primitive involvement of the palatine tonsil with a nodular paragranuloma (nodular subtype of Hodgkin's malady with lymphocytic predominance) is rarely found, being larger in number the cases associated with simultaneous occurrence in other organs. In the paper the AA. report one of this instances sitting solitarily in the palatine amygdala (stadium IA). Furthermore a bibliographic review about Waldeyer's ring lymphoma and particularly on nodular Hodgkin's paragranuloma is displayed.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this report is to compare the use of tympanostomy tubes (in 190 ears) versus the realization of myringotomy without any posterior placement of tubes (in 19 ears) in the treatment of 108 children with secretory otitis media. Course, sequelae and complications were analyzed over a period of 2 to 9 years. Our results suggest that the use of tympanostomy tubes must follow some specific indications, since they are not free of complications and sequelae.
