ABSTRACT

T- and NK-cell lymphomas are neoplasms derived from immature T cells (lymphoblastic lymphomas), or more commonly, from mature T and NK cells (peripheral T-cell lymphomas, PTCLs). PTCLs are rare but show marked biologic and clinical diversity. They are usually aggressive and may present in lymph nodes, blood, bone marrow or other organs. More than 30 T/NK-cell derived neoplastic entities are recognized in the International Consensus Classification and the classification of the World Health Organization (5th edition), both published in 2022, which integrate most recent knowledge in hematology, immunology, pathology and genetics. In both proposals, disease definition aims to integrate clinical features, etiology, implied cell of origin, morphology, phenotype and genetic features into biologically and clinically relevant clinico-pathologic entities. Cell derivation from innate immune cells, or specific functional subsets of CD4+ T cells like follicular helper T cells, are major determinants delineating entities. Accurate diagnosis of T/NK-cell lymphoma is essential for clinical management and mostly relies on tissue biopsies. Because the histologic presentation may be heterogeneous and overlaps with that of many benign lymphoid proliferations and B-cell lymphomas, the diagnosis is often challenging. Disease location, morphology and immunophenotyping remain the main features guiding the diagnosis, often complemented by genetic analysis including clonality and high-throughput sequencing mutational studies. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the classification and diagnosis of T-cell lymphoma in the context of current concepts and scientific knowledge.

ABSTRACT

Adult hematopoietic Stem and Progenitor Cells (HSPCs) reside in the bone marrow hematopoietic niche, which regulates HSPC quiescence, self-renewal, and commitment in a demand-adapted manner. While the complex bone marrow niche is responsible for adult hematopoiesis, evidence exists for simpler, albeit functional and more accessible, extramedullary hematopoietic niches. Inspired by the anecdotal description of retroperitoneal hematopoietic masses occurring at higher frequency upon hormonal dysregulation within the adrenal gland, we hypothesized that the adult adrenal gland could be induced into a hematopoietic supportive environment in a systematic manner, thus revealing mechanisms underlying de novo niche formation in the adult. Here we show that upon splenectomy and hormonal stimulation, the adult adrenal gland of mice can be induced to recruit and host functional HSPCs, capable of serial transplantation, and that this phenomenon is associated with de novo formation of platelet-derived growth factor receptor α (PDGFRα) expressing stromal nodules. We further show in CXCL12-GFP reporter mice that adrenal glands contain a stromal population reminiscent of the CXCL12-Abundant Reticular (CAR) cells which compose the bone marrow HSPC niche. Mechanistically, HSPC homing to hormonally-induced adrenal glands was found dependent on the CXCR4/CXCL12 axis. Mirroring our findings in mice, we found reticular CXCL12+ cells co-expressing master niche-regulator FOXC1 in primary samples from human adrenal myelolipomas, a benign tumor composed of adipose and hematopoietic tissue. Our findings reignite long-standing questions regarding hormonal regulation of hematopoiesis and provide a novel model to facilitate the study of adult-specific inducible hematopoietic niches which may pave the way to therapeutic applications.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted food behavior choices, including in procurement, preparation, and waste management. Although some of these behavior changes have resulted in positive economic outcomes, such as the growth of employment opportunities for food delivery personnel, others have been deemed environmentally unsustainable, such as the increase in materials used for food packaging. This study examined how the pandemic intensified the negotiations between sustainability and health in food choice behaviors in Hong Kong and demonstrated how contextual and social determinants influenced these behaviors. Public health trumped sustainability drivers during these intense disruptions.

ABSTRACT

Between 2000 and 2020, Japan played a crucial role in transforming Southeast Asia's energy sector, contributing significantly to local, national, and regional development. This period saw substantial Japanese investments in various energy sources, including renewable energy initiatives and continued use of fossil fuels, while emphasising capacity development. Our research involved an extensive and systematic inventory of secondary resources, with meticulous validation and fact-checking of critical project data. The resulting dataset provides funding amounts and details channelled through Japanese government-backed institutions and private corporations. This dataset could enhance our understanding of Japan-supported energy infrastructure and soft-skill capacity-building projects, allowing us to analyse further how these investments were aligned with the broader economic and sustainability objectives of Southeast Asian countries. Covering investment types, funding sources, and project locations, this valuable resource is useful for scholars across disciplines. Asian studies researchers can gain insights into Japan's strategic involvement in the region, while energy studies specialists can gain a nuanced understanding of the evolving energy finance landscape. Energy policy experts can also use this data to analyse the implications of Japan's contributions to Southeast Asia's energy transition.

ABSTRACT

Core components of the Intake Assessment (IA) process in the Canadian federal corrections system were examined to determine whether a simplified algorithmic equation for individuals sentenced for sex crimes could be tailored and differentiated from other violent offence types. Two major offence type categories, namely sexual and other violent were constructed for 2,896 adult male first releases for 2016 to 2017 and 2017 to 2018. A restricted set of static risk indicators, dynamic need ratings, and other actuarial measures as well as whether or not there were any returns to federal custody were extracted for each case. A combined risk index yielded robust predictions of custodial return for sexual and other violent offence types with significant and robust AUCs of 0.77 and 0.71, respectively. Analyses showed that five-level risk groupings could be derived independently for the two offence type categorizations.

ABSTRACT

@#Separation issues have been rampant, and a significant rise in union dissolution cases in the Philippines has been observed. This certain occurrence should be given particular attention because it may alter the individual's way of living, particularly in perceiving and dealing with relationships. This study explores the lived experience of individuals who have undergone parental separation. The study utilized a Hermeneutic Phenomenological Design, which involved ten (10) respondents using a semi-structured key informant interview guide. The respondents were selected based on criteria as follows: (1) Have parents who have decided on the dissolution of marriage (annulled or informal) living separately; (2) 18 years of age and above; (3) Residents of Central Visayas; permanent or transient in Cebu City and; (4) Able to understand and express ideas in Cebuano dialect or English language. An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis anchored on van Manen's six-step interpretive phenomenological approach with management and analysis done manually created a poem titled “Memoirs of Yesterday,” which incorporates three (3) major themes: (1) Into the Tunnel: Etiology of Separation, (2) The Darkness in the Tunnel: effects of the dissolution of marriage to children- emotional, psychological and academic status and (3) The Light After the Tunnel: attitude of the child and parent towards relationships and separation. The study implies that nurses should recognize the importance of assessing family concerns in rendering holistic and individualized client care. Thus, nurses should use assessed needs in advocating for the creation of more programs on awareness and counseling to families and, most especially, children.

ABSTRACT

Introduction@#The increasing incidence of stroke in young adults has been a growing concern, which is why research studies were generated to find out the risk factors contributing to the development of this disease. This study investigated the dose-dependent effect of smoking in the development of stroke in the young ages (19-45 years).@*Methods@#A case-control retrospective study was conducted using electronic and printed records of the patients admitted to Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center last 2017-2018. There were 275 patients included in the study. The smoking status and pack-years cigarette smoking of the subjects were recorded and were correlated with the duration of hospitalization and the Modified Rankin Scale (MRS). Results were analyzed using student’s t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson’s Correlation.@*Result@#The prevalence of stroke was higher in men than in women. The ORs (95% CI) of stroke were significant in current cigarette smoking at 2.71 (CI: 1.6398 to 4.4943). Compared with non-smokers and those who smoked 1 to 9 pack years, the OR of stroke was significantly increased for those who smoked 10 to 19, and ≥ 20 cigarettes per day with OR of 14.0765 (4.10 to 48.35), and 31.5854 (1.82 to 548.97), respectively (p= 0.032 for linear trends). There was a weak positive linear correlation between pack years of cigarette smoking (1-9, 10-19, >20 pack years) and days of hospitalization (r= 0.28; p for trend = 0.0168). There was also a strong positive linear correlation between stroke outcome using the Modified Rankin Scale and pack years of cigarette smoking (r = 0.72; P for trend = 0.001). This study shows an increase in the odds of stroke in current cigarette smokers with a dose-dependent relationship in its outcome.@*Conclusion@#Smoking is a significant risk factor for stroke with a dose-dependent effect on its outcome. Furthermore, quitting smoking significantly decreases the risk of developing stroke.

ABSTRACT

While rice studies are abundant, they usually focus on macro-level rice production and yield data, genetic diversity, cultivar varieties, and agrotechnological innovations. Moreover, many of these studies are either region-wide or concentrated on countries in the Global North. Collecting, synthesizing, and analyzing the different themes and topic areas in rice research since the beginning of the 21st century, especially in the Global South, remain unaddressed areas. This study contributes to filling these research lacunae by systematically reviewing 2243 rice-related articles cumulatively written by more than 6000 authors and published in over 900 scientific journals. Using the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, this study screened and retrieved articles published from 2001 to 2021 on the various topics and questions surrounding rice research in Indonesia and the Philippines-two rice-producing and -consuming, as well as emerging economies in Southeast Asia. Using a combination of bibliometrics and quantitative content analysis, this paper discusses the productive, relevant, and influential rice scholars; key institutions, including affiliations, countries, and funders; important articles and journals; and knowledge hotspots in these two countries. It also discusses the contributions of the social sciences, highlights key gaps, and provides a research agenda across six interdisciplinary areas for future studies. This paper mainly argues that an interdisciplinary and comparative inquiry of potentially novel topic areas and research questions could deepen and widen scholarly interests beyond conventional natural science-informed rice research in Indonesia and the Philippines. Finally, this paper serves other researchers in their review of other crops in broader global agriculture.

ABSTRACT

Prolonged implementation of lockdowns during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has resulted in older adults living alone in social isolation. The purpose of the study was to describe the meaning of the experience of Filipino older adults, who are living alone and using social media technologies during the COVID-19 pandemic. Eight participants who met the inclusion criteria were interviewed using the snowball selection technique. Transcribed interviews were read while also listening to the recorded interviews and highlighting significant words, phrases, and statements. An iterative process of analysis using van Manen's phenomenological approach identified thematic structures and categories revealing life-worlds of corporeality, relationality, temporality, spatiality, and materiality. The five general essences of flourishing, communicating, struggling, journeying and empowering, described the meaning of living alone and using social media technologies among older adults during the pandemic. The experience was expressed as "flourishing despite struggling to communicate, while journeying and empowering oneself and others." Older adults in isolation struggled to communicate with others however, with social technologies opportunities were opened for them in securing needed food, safety and security, maintaining their health, and their social connectedness. Despite the physical isolation and living arrangements during the pandemic, the use of social media technologies sustained older persons' well-being.

ABSTRACT

Although the phenomenon that we know as parental alienation (PA) had been described in the mental health and legal literature for many years, it was given its name-parental alienation syndrome-by Richard Gardner in 1985. As time went on, most writers abandoned the use of the word syndrome and simply referred to this mental condition as parental alienation. The definition of PA is a mental state in which a child-usually one whose parents are engaged in a high-conflict separation or divorce-allies strongly with one parent (the favored parent) and rejects a relationship with the other parent (the alienated parent) without a good reason. Of course, it is a major loss for a child to experience the removal of a parent from their life in that manner. The purposes of this commentary are to explain definitions and distinctions related to PA; describe the Five-Factor Model (FFM) for the identification of PA; and offer clinical, legal, and training implications stemming from an understanding of PA.

ABSTRACT

A primary goal in pain treatment is restoration of behaviors that are disrupted by pain. Measures of pain interference indicate the degree to which pain interferes with activities in pain patients, and these measures are used to evaluate the effects of analgesic drugs. As a result of the emphasis on the expression and treatment of functional impairment in clinical settings, preclinical pain researchers have attempted to develop procedures for evaluation of pain-related functional impairment in laboratory animals. The goal of the present study was to develop and validate a low cost procedure for the objective evaluation of pain-related depression of home cage behavior in mice. On test days, a 5 × 5 cm Nestlet was weighed prior to being suspended from the wire lid of the home cage of individually housed male and female ICR mice. Over the course of experimental sessions, mice removed pieces of the suspended Nestlet, and began to build a nest with the material they removed. Thus, the weight of the pieces of Nestlet that remained suspended at various time points in the session provided an indicator of the rate of this behavior. The results indicate that Nestlet shredding was stable with repeated testing, and shredding was depressed by intra-peritoneal injection of 0.32% lactic acid. The non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug ketoprofen blocked 0.32% lactic acid-induced depression of shredding, but did not block depression of shredding by a pharmacological stimulus, the kappa opioid receptor agonist U69,593. The µ-opioid receptor agonist morphine did not block 0.32% lactic acid-induced depression of shredding when tested up to doses that depressed shredding in the absence of lactic acid. When noxious stimulus intensity was reduced by decreasing the lactic acid concentration to 0.18%, morphine was effective at blocking pain-related depression of behavior. In summary, the data from the present study support consideration of the Nestlet shredding procedure for use in studies examining mechanisms, expression, and treatment of pain-related functional impairment.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Autoimmune encephalitis (AE) is an emerging disorder in adults and children. Due to its potentially reversible nature, prompt recognition and intervention are of utmost importance. OBJECTIVE: To describe the clinical and paraclinical features, as well as treatment outcomes of patients with AE admitted in a Philippine tertiary hospital. METHODS: Retrospective case series of patients with definite AE. RESULTS: Eighteen (18) patients were included (12 adults, 6 children), majority of whom had anti-N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) encephalitis. The median age of onset was 32 (IQR: 10.8) years old and 13 (IQR: 4.8) years old in the adult and pediatric population, respectively. In both age groups, most presented with psychiatric symptoms and normal imaging findings. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pleocytosis was detected in 8/12 (66.7%) adults and 2/6 (33.3%) children, while CSF protein elevation was only seen in 6/12 (50%) adults. Most patients presented with seizures, and the most frequent electroencephalography (EEG) abnormality detected was slow activity (70.5%). A high proportion of patients received high dose steroids, alone (35.3%) or in combination with intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG, 52.9%). Overall, 66.7% had improved outcomes, mostly seen in the pediatric population. CONCLUSION: This study highlighted the broad clinical phenotype, as well as the similarities and differences of AE manifestations in adults and children. It demonstrated the limited but supportive role of laboratory investigations in the diagnosis of AE. It also underscored the importance of early intervention in AE and highlighted factors influencing treatment practices and discharge outcomes in the local setting.

ABSTRACT

Acute cerebellar ataxia is a rare primary manifestation of neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus (NPSLE). We report a case of a 22-year-old woman who presented with gait instability, behavioural changes and new-onset seizures. The tempo of disease progression was explained by an autoimmune cause, eventually fulfilling the criteria for systemic lupus erythematosus. The patient's neurological symptoms improved markedly following administration of steroids and immunomodulators. A review of literature on cerebellar ataxia in NPSLE and a summary of all reported cases to date are also presented.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Epilepsy is a neurologic disease that carries a high disease burden and likely, a huge treatment gap especially in low-to-middle income countries (LMIC) such as the Philippines. This review aimed to examine the treatment gaps and challenges that burden Philippine epilepsy care. MATERIALS & METHODS: Pertinent data on epidemiology, research, health financing and health systems, pharmacologic and surgical treatment options, cost of care, and workforce were obtained through a literature search and review of relevant Philippine government websites. RESULTS: The estimated prevalence of epilepsy in the Philippines is 0.9%. Epilepsy research in the Philippines is low in quantity compared with the rest of Southeast Asia (SEA). Inequities in quality and quantity of healthcare services delivered to local government units (LGUs) have arisen because of devolution. Programs for epilepsy care by both government and nongovernment institutions have been implemented. Healthcare expenditure in the Philippines is still largely out-of-pocket, with only partial coverage from the public sector. There is limited access to antiseizure medications (ASMs), mainly due to cost. Epilepsy surgery is an underutilized treatment option. There are only 20 epileptologists in the Philippines, with one epileptologist for every 45,000 patients with epilepsy. In addition, epilepsy care service delivery has been further impeded by the coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. CONCLUSION: There is a large treatment gap in epilepsy care in the Philippines in terms of high epilepsy disease burden, socioeconomic limitations and inadequate public support, sparse clinico-epidemiologic research on epilepsy, inaccessibility of health care services and essential pharmacotherapy, underutilization of surgical options, and lack of specialists capable of rendering epilepsy care. Acknowledgment of the existence of these treatment gaps and addressing such are expected to improve the overall survival and quality of life of patients with epilepsy in the Philippines.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to determine the frequency of electrographically confirmed nonconvulsive status epilepticus (NCSE) in a cohort suspected with this condition and to determine the demographic/clinical profile, treatment, and outcomes of these patients in the context of a developing country, the Philippines. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective study among patients with suspected with NCSE admitted in the Philippine General Hospital from 2014 to 2019. Using the Salzberg 2013 criteria to diagnose NCSE, three electroencephalographers independently reviewed the electroencephalogram (EEG) tracings of suspected patients and were blinded from the clinical information. Then, we obtained pertinent clinical data from the medical records of EEG-confirmed NCSE cases. RESULTS: Out of 89 patients suspected with NCSE and with available EEG tracings, information from a total of 14 patients (15.7%) with electrographically confirmed cases were included in the analysis. Median age was 52 ranging from 22 to 77 and female-to-male ratio was 1.3:1. The following conditions were associated with NCSE: intracranial tumor (n = 4), metabolic encephalopathy (n = 4), autoimmune encephalitis (n = 3), intracranial hemorrhage (n = 3), sepsis (n = 3), cardiac arrest (n = 2), hypoxic-ischemic injury (n = 2), antiepileptic withdrawal (n = 1), intracranial abscess (n = 1), head trauma (n = 1), and meningitis (n = 1). Three patients (21.4%) had relatively good clinical outcomes (mRS 0-2) while 6 patients (42.8%) had poor outcomes (mRS 3-5) at discharge. Five patients (35.7%) died due to medical/neurological complications. Our review of the literature showed that the profile of NCSE cases identified in our resource-limited institution strengthens the findings in other populations. CONCLUSION: Our data showed that approximately 1 in 6 patients who are suspected with NCSE may have electrographic evidence of NCSE in our setting. The most common etiologies associated with NCSE were intracranial tumors and metabolic conditions. Further studies may entail a prospective collection of data to validate the estimates of our study.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Antileucine-rich glioma-inactivated 1 (LGI1) autoimmune encephalitis is a distinct syndrome of early onset faciobrachial dystonic seizures (FBDS) and other focal seizures followed by neuropsychiatric symptoms. The electroclinical syndrome of this condition is yet to be fully understood. The main objective of this study was to determine the frequencies of electroencephalogram (EEG) findings in patients diagnosed with anti-LGI1 autoimmune encephalitis through a systematic review of published relevant articles. METHODS: Major electronic healthcare databases were searched for relevant published articles until July 2020. RESULTS: From 327 articles, 23 case reports and 14 case series were included in the review after satisfying the eligibility criteria. Data from a total of 151 cases of definite anti-LGI1 encephalitis were analyzed in this systematic review. Epileptiform discharges were the most frequent finding at 57.3%. Focal electroencephalographic abnormalities including slow wave (59.3%) and epileptiform activities (53.5%) most commonly arise from the temporal region. Faciobrachial dystonic seizures often have no ictal electroencephalographic correlate but would show electrodecremental events when seizure duration is prolonged. CONCLUSION: Electroencephalogram abnormalities are seen in anti-LGI1 autoimmune encephalitis with epileptiform discharges as the most common finding followed by focal slowing. These findings were most frequently seen arising in the temporal region. Further studies using a standardized protocol focusing on electroencephalographic findings in anti-LGI1 encephalitis with clinical correlation to disease stage and treatment outcomes in terms of seizure control and memory and cognitive function are needed. Particular attention on ictal electrodecremental activity during FBDS should be done in studies with a larger sample size.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Growing evidence of neurologic involvement seen in COVID-19 infection necessitates the pooling of neurodiagnostic findings like electroencephalography (EEG) that may guide clinical management. The objective of this study was to review the EEG findings in patients diagnosed with COVID-19 infection through a systematic review of published articles. METHODS: We systematically searched until July 25, 2020 for published articles that reported on descriptive EEG findings in patients diagnosed with COVID-19 in PUBMED by Medline, EMBASE, and CENTRAL by the Cochrane Library. RESULTS: From a total of 94 identified records, 29 relevant articles were included in this review. A total of 177 patients with COVID-19 with descriptive EEG reports were analyzed. The most common indication for EEG was unexplained altered mental status. Disturbances of background activity such as generalized and focal slowing were seen as well epileptiform abnormalities and rhythmic or periodic discharges. There were no consistent EEG findings specific to COVID-19 infection. CONCLUSION: The EEG findings in COVID-19 appear to be non-specific. Further research on the relationship of the EEG findings to the clinical state and short- or long-term prognosis of COVID-19 patients may be conducted to help clinicians discern which patients would necessitate an EEG procedure and would eventually require treatment.

ABSTRACT

This aims to provide an understanding of the spread of pneumonia through analysis of the interaction between infected and potentially infected. Data from 2010 to 2018 on Pneumonia morbidity among older persons age 65 and above was extracted from the Department of Health Field Health Service Information System (FHSIS) annual reports. The data were used to represent the cumulative adopters by fitting them to the Bass diffusion model using the Bass Forecasting Spreadsheet. The number of new adopters was graphed to forecast the diffusion of Pneumonia. The number of cases is expected to increase. The adoption rate in 2024 will be around 45% of the current population. Morbidity of pneumonia is expected to peak in the year 2200, 190 years after the first data. The use of the model provided an insight into the cumulative nature of pneumonia infection due to the interaction between infected and the potentially infected.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Status epilepticus (SE) is an emergent neurologic condition that carries a high risk of morbidity and mortality. Intravenous brivaracetam (IV BRV) may be an alternative anticonvulsant against status epilepticus, although the sparseness of controlled studies on the topic limits its recommendation for this indication. OBJECTIVES: This systematic review aimed to determine the efficacy and safety of IV BRV in the treatment of status epilepticus. METHODS: A comprehensive literature search was conducted until December 2019 through several electronic databases (PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus, OpenGrey, ScienceDirect, HERDIN, Epistemonikos, CENTRAL, ClinicalTrials.gov) to identify relevant studies. Studies that involved adult patients with SE who were given IV BRV were considered for inclusion in this review. RESULTS: From a total of 34 studies identified, 5 uncontrolled studies with 77 patients were included in this review. Thirty-seven out of 77 patients (48%) with SE responded to IV BRV. Reported time to seizure cessation may be immediate from a few minutes to several hours after IV BRV treatment. Patients manifested with significant disability on Glasgow outcome scale (Median: 3) and modified Rankin scale (Mode: 5). Six patients [somnolence (5), worsening seizures (1)] had treatment emergent adverse events. CONCLUSIONS: Limited evidence from 5 uncontrolled studies involving a limited number of patients suggests that IV BRV may be efficacious and safe in terminating seizures among patients with SE or refractory SE. Further studies employing either prospective, controlled trials or registry-based study designs are essential to determine the definitive role of IV BRV in patients with SE.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To estimate long-term stimulant treatment associations on standardized height, weight, and body mass index trajectories from childhood to adulthood in the Multimodal Treatment Study of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (MTA). METHOD: Of 579 children with DSM-IV ADHD-combined type at baseline (aged 7.0-9.9 years) and 289 classmates (local normative comparison group [LNCG]), 568 and 258 respectively, were assessed 8 times over 16 years (final mean age = 24.7). Parent interview data established subgroups with self-selected Consistent (n = 53, 9%), Inconsistent (n = 374, 66%), and Negligible (n = 141, 25%) stimulant medication use, as well as patients starting stimulants prior to MTA entry (n = 211, 39%). Height and weight growth trajectories were calculated for each subgroup. RESULTS: Height z scores trajectories differed among subgroups (F = 2.22, p < .0001) and by stimulant use prior to study entry (F = 2.22, p < .001). The subgroup-by-assessment interaction was significant (F = 2.81, p < .0001). Paired comparisons revealed significant subgroup differences at endpoint: Consistent was shorter than Negligible (-0.66 z units /-4.06 cm /1.6 inches, t = -3.17, p < 0.0016), Consistent shorter than Inconsistent (-0.45 z units /-2.74 cm /-1.08 inches, t = -2.39, p < .0172), and the Consistent shorter than LNCG (-0.54 z units/+3.34 cm/ 1.31 inches, t = -3.30, p < 0.001). Weight z scores initially diverged among subgroups, converged in adolescence, and then diverged again in adulthood when the Consistent outweighed the LNCG (+ 3.561 z units /+7.47 kg /+16.46 lb, p < .0001). CONCLUSION: Compared with those negligibly medicated and the LNCG, 16 years of consistent stimulant treatment of children with ADHD in the MTA was associated with changes in height trajectory, a reduction in adult height, and an increase in weight and body mass index.
