ABSTRACT

Fluorine (F) atoms with the highest electronegativity and low polarizability can easily modify the surface and composition of carbon-based electrode materials. However, this is accompanied by complete irreversibility and uncontrolled reactivity, thus hindering their use in rechargeable electronic devices. Therefore, understanding the electrochemical effects of the C-F configuration might lead to achieving superior electrochemical properties. Here, we demonstrate that the fluorinated and simultaneously reduced graphene oxide (FrGO) was easily synthesized through direct gas fluorination. The as-prepared 11%-FrGO electrode exhibited a high capacity (1365 mAh g-1 at 0.1 A g-1), remarkable rate capability, and good stability (64% retention after 1000 cycles at 5 A g-1). Furthermore, the annealed FrGO (11%-FrGO(A)) electrode in which the C-F bond configurations were controlled by facile thermal treatment shows long-term stability (80% retention after 1000 cycles at 5 A g-1). Above a certain content, F atoms enhance Li-ion adsorption and electron transfer, accelerate Li-ion diffusion, and facilitate the formation of a solid electrolyte interphase layer. In particular, the C-F configuration plays a significant role in retaining the capacity under harsh recharging conditions. The results in this study could provide valuable insights into the field of rechargeable devices.

ABSTRACT

Natural halloysite kaolin contains a lot of impurities such as quartz phases and varies in morphology and size during their formation in the earth. So to utilize as a new type of natural nano material, removing quartz impurities from kaolin clays without scathe the tube morphologies are necessary. So to remove quartz impurities from kaolin by forming a well deflocculated aqueous slip without fracturing the morphology of tubes, the slip of homogenized halloysite clay was recovered by adding polyvalent metallic cations and anionic polyelectrolyte flocculants simultaneously to selectively flocculate the mixture of quartz and halloysite, whereby the halloysite particles form floes and the tubular halloysite remains in suspensions. Then, the uniform size and tubular shape of halloysite was obtained which could be suitably used as a container or a carrier to encapsulate nanomaterials.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: This study was to evaluate the effect of bone graft procedure on the primary stability of implants installed in fresh sockets and assess the vertical alteration of peri-implant bone radiographically. METHODS: Twenty-three implants were inserted in 18 patients immediately after tooth extraction. The horizontal gap between the implant and bony walls of the extraction socket was grafted with xenografts. The implant stability before and after graft procedure was measured by Osstell Mentor as implant stability quotient before bone graft (ISQ bbg) and implant stability quotient after bone graft (ISQ abg). Peri-apical radiographs were taken to measure peri-implant bone change immediately after implant surgery and 12 months after implant placement. Data were analyzed by independent t test; the relationships between stability parameters (insertion torque value (ITV), ISQ abg, and ISQ bbg) and peri-implant bone changes were analyzed according to Pearson correlation coefficients. RESULTS: The increase of ISQ in low primary stability group (LPSG) was 6.87 ± 3.62, which was significantly higher than the increase in high primary stability group (HPSG). A significant correlation between ITV and ISQ bbg (R = 0.606, P = 0.002) was found; however, age and peri-implant bone change were not found significantly related to implant stability parameters. It was presented that there were no significant peri-implant bone changes at 1 year after bone graft surgery. CONCLUSIONS: Bone graft procedure is beneficial for increasing the primary stability of immediately placed implants, especially when the ISQ of implants is below 65 and that bone grafts have some effects on peri-implant bone maintenance.
