ABSTRACT

Ectopic pregnancy is the leading cause of maternal morbidity and mortality during the first trimester of pregnancy. There has been a dramatic increase in its incidence since the advent of IVF followed by in vitro Embryo Transfer (IVF-ET). Many risk factors related to IVF techniques and the cause of infertility have been documented. The combination of Endo Vaginal Ultrasonography and Human B Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) assays is the most reliable diagnostic tool, sometimes allowing the trunk to be preserved.

ABSTRACT

Bilharzia is the world's second parasitic endemic and its genito-urinary lesions are well described. Ectopic pregnancies on tubal obstruction by bilharzia eggs are reported in African populations. Through a case of clinical observation we report an exceptional case of tubal erythema tubal bilharziasis in a French woman of origin but particularly affectionate by the African woman Africa south of the sahara. where she carries out humanitarian activities in countries in conflits (Democratic Republic Of Congo, Ivory Coast, and Mali).

ABSTRACT

To avoid repeated apheresis, the objective of this study was to analyse the predictive factors for a single successful cytapheresis during the first mobilisation. The pre-collection characteristics of 170 lymphoma and 95 myeloma patients were analysed. Among 60 lymphoma patients who had less than 30 CD34 cells/mm(3) the day before the first apheresis, an increase in the CD34 cell count between Day -1 and Day 1 was predictive of first stem cell mobilisation success, with a sensitivity of 100% if the Day 1 was higher than 30/mm(3) (10/60 patients). Success rate of obtaining an appropriate number of stem cells in one apheresis was 120 among 170 patients.

ABSTRACT

The impact of autoimmunity on malaria-infection evolution reported by various works has led us to compare reactive patterns of self-dependent systemic IgG from 54 patients aged less than 15 years old to those from 46 subjects older than 15 years. These subjects were divided into 34 Plasmodium falciparum asymptomatic carriers (ACs), 30 cases of uncomplicated malaria (UM), and 36 patients suffering from cerebral malaria (CM) living in the same endemic area. The reactivity of the plasma antibodies against human brain tissue extract was assessed by western blotting. Comparative analysis of reactive bands (linear discriminant analysis, LDA) revealed the existence of patterns that distinguish, among the more susceptible subjects aged less than 15 years old, the different clinical forms. In contrast, in less susceptible subjects aged more than 15 years old, the patterns are homogenous and do not allow the separation of these clinical forms. This self-reactive repertoire might be witnessed as an imprint of the clinical tolerance acquired during the years of living in endemic areas. The singularity of this profile under the age of 15 years might have a prognostic value.

ABSTRACT

The insertion of the inflation needle during laparoscopic procedures carries the risk of severe vascular damage to the aorto-cava bifurcation. Interindividual anatomic variation is great as shown by magnetic resonance imaging, increasing the risk of vascular damage. Four simple technical precautions are recommended to prevent accidents: insertion at the lower umbilical margin, widen distance between the umbilicus and the greater vessels, a 45 degree insertion angle and strictly medial position.

ABSTRACT

We demonstrate the efficient excitation of high-Q whispering-gallery modes in near-spherical fused-silica microparticles in the size range 60-450 microm by the use of an eroded monomode optical fiber. When the sphere is placed in the evanescent field of the guided fiber mode, light is resonantly coupled from the fiber into the microparticle. We report a broadening of resonance modes and a shift of the resonance central frequency as the coupling strength is increased by reduction of the gap between the sphere and the fiber.

ABSTRACT

The dipole force experienced by an atom in a nonresonant spatially inhomogeneous light field is quantized by the discrete nature of the photon. We propose to detect this quantization by studying the scattering of slow atoms that pass in the evanescent field of a microsphere whispering gallery mode. This constitutes an inverse Stern-Gerlach experiment in which the atomic deflection is correlated to the state of the scattering field.
