ABSTRACT

The study explores the impact of predictive nursing interventions on pressure ulcers (PUs) in elderly bedridden patients. A total of 120 elderly bedridden patients from the Central Hospital of Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture between August 2019 and August 2023 were selected as the subjects of the study and were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group using a random number table method. The control group received conventional nursing care, while the observation group received predictive nursing interventions. The study compared the incidence of PUs, Braden scale scores, the onset time of PUs, self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) scores, self-rating depression scale (SDS) scores, and nursing satisfaction between the two groups. In elderly bedridden patients, the application of predictive nursing interventions significantly reduced the incidence of PUs (p < 0.001), significantly lowered the SAS and SDS scores (p < 0.001), and also significantly increased Braden scale scores (p < 0.001) and delayed the onset time of PUs (p < 0.001). Additionally, it improved patients' nursing satisfaction (p = 0.008). Predictive nursing interventions in elderly bedridden patients have good application effects, reducing the occurrence of PUs, delaying the time of onset in patients, improving patients' negative emotions and enhancing nursing satisfaction rates. It is worthy of widespread use.

ABSTRACT

To investigate the hot topics and attitudes of autism in the larger community. In this study, we analyzed and summarized experimental texts from the social media platform Zhihu using the TF-IDF algorithm and K-means clustering approach. Based on the analysis of the 1,740,826-word experimental text, we found that the popularity of autism has steadily risen over recent years. Sufferers and their parents primarily discuss autism. The K-means clustering algorithm revealed that the most popular topics are divided into four categories: self-experience of individuals with autism, external views of individuals with autism, caring and stressful behaviors of caregivers, and information about autism. This study concluded that people with autism face more incredible negative emotions, external cognitive evaluations of the autistic group reflect stereotypes, the caregiver's family suffers high financial and psychological stress, and disorders caused by disease in autistic individuals.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this scoping review was to synthesise the effectiveness and acceptability of decision aids for critically ill patients and family members in the intensive care unit (ICU). METHODS: A systematic search of four electronic databases and grey literature was undertaken to identify relevant studies on the application of decision aids in the ICU, without publication date restriction, through March 2023. The methodological framework proposed by Arksey and O'Malley was used to guide the scoping review. RESULTS: Fourteen papers were ultimately included in this review. However, only nine decision aids were available, and it is noteworthy that many of these studies focused on the iterative development and testing of individual decision aids. Among the included studies, 92% (n=13) were developed in North America, with a primary focus on goals of care and life-sustaining treatments. The summary of the effect of decision aid application revealed that the most common indicators were the level of knowledge and code status, and some promising signals disappeared in randomised trials. CONCLUSIONS: The complexity of treatment decisions in the ICU exceeds the current capabilities of existing decision aids. There is a clear gap in decision aids that are tailored to different cultural contexts, highlighting the need to expand the scope of their application. In addition, rigorous quality control is very important for randomised controlled trial, and indicators for assessing the effectiveness of decision aids need to be further clarified.

ABSTRACT

The vault ribonucleoprotein (RNP), comprising vault RNA (vtRNA) and telomerase-associated protein 1 (TEP1), is found in many eukaryotes. However, previous studies of vtRNAs, for example in mammalian cells, have failed to reach a definitive conclusion about their function. vtRNAs are related to Y RNAs, which are complexed with Ro protein and influence Ro's function in noncoding RNA (ncRNA) quality control and processing. In Trypanosoma brucei, the small noncoding TBsRNA-10 was first described in a survey of the ncRNA repertoire in this organism. Here, we report that TBsRNA-10 in T. brucei is a vtRNA, based on its association with TEP1 and sequence similarity to those of other known and predicted vtRNAs. We observed that like vtRNAs in other species, TBsRNA-10 is transcribed by RNA polymerase III, which in trypanosomes also generates the spliceosomal U-rich small nuclear RNAs. In T. brucei, spliced leader (SL)-mediated trans-splicing of pre-mRNAs is an obligatory step in gene expression, and we found here that T. brucei's vtRNA is highly enriched in a non-nucleolar locus in the cell nucleus implicated in SL RNP biogenesis. Using a newly developed permeabilized cell system for the bloodstream form of T. brucei, we show that down-regulated vtRNA levels impair trans-spliced mRNA production, consistent with a role of vtRNA in trypanosome mRNA metabolism. Our results suggest a common theme for the functions of vtRNAs and Y RNAs. We conclude that by complexing with their protein-binding partners TEP1 and Ro, respectively, these two RNA species modulate the metabolism of various RNA classes.

ABSTRACT

Flowering Chinese cabbage is a stalk vegetable whose quality and yield are directly related to stalk development. However, no comprehensive investigations on stalk development have been performed. To address this issue, the present study used RNA sequencing to investigate transcriptional regulation at three key stages (seedling, bolting, and flowering) of stalk development in flowering Chinese cabbage. Anatomical analysis revealed that cell division was the main mode of stalk thickening and elongation at all key stages. Among the 35,327 genes expressed in shoot apices, 34,448 were annotated and 879 were identified as novel transcripts. We identified 11,514 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) among the three stages of stalk development. Functional analysis revealed that these DEGs were significantly enriched in 'ribosome' and 'plant hormone signal transduction' pathways and were involved in hormone signal transduction, cell cycle progression, and the regulation of flowering time. The roles of these genes in stalk development were explored, and a putative gene-regulation network for the stalk flowering time was established. These findings provide insight into the molecular mechanisms of stalk development in flowering Chinese cabbage that provides a new theoretical basis for stalk vegetable breeding.
