ABSTRACT

Overall 146 females suffering from essential hypertension (borderline, stage I and II according to WHO, 1980) were examined for basal concentrations of estradiol, estriol, progesterone, testosterone, cortisol, ACTH, prolactin in plasma, LH and FSH in blood and urine. The patients and 69 control normotensive females were reproductive, premenopausal, menopausal, postmenopausal, postcastration. Latent hypertension was elicited at bicycle exercise. It was found that relationships between sex hormones and gonadotropins both in hypertensive and normotensive women did not differ noticeably in reproductive period and in menopause. Hormone defects due to primary and secondary infertility, castration, menopause did not raise the risk of arterial hypertension onset. An-Unfavorable course of hypertension was observed in premenopause, following operative castration, in climacteric syndrome. The severity of AH at reproductive age was associated with hyposecretion of progesterone, estrogens and gonadotropins LH, FSH. This relationship was absent in menopausal women. A conclusion is proposed on miner significance of sex hormones imbalance and gonadotropins in the onset of arterial hypertension in females varying by generative activity.

ABSTRACT

The authors provide the results of the clinical trial of the dialyzers DIP-03-02 manufactured by the USSR in cooperation with the FRG (Frezenius Company). In accordance with clearances of low-, medium- and high-molecular compounds as well as with the ultrafiltration characteristics, DIP-03-02 are similar to the modern capillary dialyzers from hollow fibers on the basis of cellulose membranes with an analogous surface. During manufacture of the dialyzers DIP-03-02, the polysulfone membrane possessing low permeability for liquid was obtained for the first time. The tentative data on biocompatibility (the complement activation test) are positive.

ABSTRACT

Radioimmunoassay was used to study the blood thyrocalcitonin (TCT) and parathyroid hormone (PH) content in children with diffuse toxic goitre and hypothyrosis. The blood plasma TCT content was determined in 20 children with thyrotoxicosis and in 28 subjects with hypothyrosis. PH content was examined correspondingly in 18 and 20 patients. It was concluded that the blood TCT concentration is not significantly changed in children suffering from diffuse toxic goitre and hypothyrosis. PH content decreases in patients with thyrotoxicosis. Wide variability of PH individual values is peculiar to hyperthyrosis. TCT and PH have no essential significance in the pathogenesis of bone injuries and mineral metabolism changes in thyroid diseases of children.

ABSTRACT

The authors examined 64 patients with exogenous-constitutional adiposity, aged from 17 to 61 years (27 men and 37 women). The indices of the cortisol content were compared, depending on the patients' age, the degree of adiposity, heredity, and duration of the disease; the dependence and the correlation between cortisol and adipocyte morphology were ascertained. The blood cortisol content proved to depend on the patient's age and the degree of adiposity. Thus, in young patients its content was elevated; with the advance of age and increase of body weight the mean cortisol indices decreased. There was found a direct relationship between the cell size and the adiposity degree. Simultaneously marked increase of the cortisol content and marked adipocyte hypertrophy were found in individual patients. There was no increase of the cortisol content in case of normal adipocyte size. However, there was no distinct correlation between the cortisol content, the size and number of adipocytes. As the doby weight decreased the adipocyte size reduction was recorded in obese patients; some of them developed activization of the glucocorticoid function of the adrenal glands.
