ABSTRACT

(AU)

The overall aim of this study was to investigate coping strategies used by adolescents of a social and professional qualification institution. Seventy-six adolescents, both male and female, participated in the study. To identify the coping strategies, the Ways of Coping Questionnaire was used. The most frequently used strategies were seeking social support, self-controlling and positive reappraisal, and the least used were escape-avoidance, distancing and confrontive coping. Differences in the use of strategies between the sexes were not found. The stressful event most frequently reported was conflict with parents. In stressful events occurring in the interaction with adults, the escape-avoidance strategy was the most prevalent. (AU)
