ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To study the treatment mechanism of nasal polyposis by locally injecting Bleomycin A5. METHOD: The specimens from nineteen cases with nasal polyposis obtained before and after treatment with Bleomycin A5 were studied with immunohistochemical technique and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL). RESULT: The apoptosis index (AI) of eosinophil was (20.53 +/- 7.66) % before treatment and (44.47 +/- 8.97) % after treatment. There was significantly difference between them (P < 0.01). The rate of TGF-beta1 positive expression in eosinophil after treatment (74.74 +/- 5.22) % was significantly lower than that before treatment (85.18 +/- 8.07) % (P < 0.05). The expression of TGF-beta1 in matrix was also decreased (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Bleomycin A5 could cure nasal polyposis by promoting eosinophil apoptosis and reducing the expression of TGF-beta1.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: The goal of this study is to present our experience of transarterial embolization and intratumor injection for the treatment of gigantic hemangioma of the head, face, and neck. METHOD: From 2001 to 2003, 3 patients with gigantic hemangioma were selected to get digital subtraction angiography (DSA) and transarterial embolization and intratumor injection successfully. RESULT: Angiography after embolization showed almost complete obliteration of hemangioma. There were no serious complications such as embolism to other organs and necrosis of a large area in the embolized tissue. Only slight swelling and pain in the embolized area were present. And gradually disappeared by expect and treatment. No recurrence of the symptoms was occurred in a follow-up evaluation of 6- 24 months. CONCLUSION: Using of DSA. transarterial embolization and intratumor injection showed an excellent clinic effect on treatment of hemangioma, reducing the recurrence of the symptoms.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To study the expression of eosinophil in nasal polyposis tissue after Bleomycin A5 local injection. METHOD: Nineteen cases nasal polyposis specimen obtained before and after treatment with Bleomycin A5 were studied with terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferasemediated dUTP nick endlabeling (TUNEL). RESULT: The number of eosinophil in nasal polyposis specimen before treatment is significantly higher than that after treatment (P<0.01) and so to normal inferior turbinate concha mucosa (P<0.01). The apoptosis index (AI) of eosinophil after treatment is significantly higher than that before treatment (P<0.01). CONCLUSION: Eosinophil is the main infiltration cell in nasal polyposis tissue. Bleomycin A5 could cure nasal polyposis by promoting eosinophil apoptosis.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To study the mucociliary transport function of rhinitis sicca and atrophic rhinitis, and to explore the standard of diagnosis. METHOD: The MTR of normal control group, the rhinitis sicca group and the atrophic rhinitis were determined by using saccharin, and then compared. Then MTR of rhinitis sicca treatment group were compared before and after treatment. RESULT: The MTR of normal group: (9.15 +/- 0.86) mm/min; the rhinitis sicca group: (5.84 +/- 0.48) mm/min and the atrophic rhinitis group: (3.36 +/- 0.07) mm/min. There were significant difference among them (P < 0.05). 25 patients of rhinitis sicca were treated by administering the pill of Gelomyrtol forte in 2 weeks. The MTR of rhinitis sicca were no significant difference before and after treatment (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Rhinitis sicca is a separate nasal disease, which is different from atrophic rhinitis. It is important to find an effective treatment for the disease.
