ABSTRACT

The rational design of the dimension and geometry of a plasmonic semiconductor cocatalyst is vitally important for efficient utilization of near-infrared (NIR) light and superior photocatalytic hydrogen generation. Herein, hollow cubic CuSe@CdS composites with different sizes and strong localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) were prepared by selenizing size-tunable Cu2O templates and loading CdS nanoparticles. The size of hollow cubic CuSe can affect the surface area and the conduction band potential through the size effect, regulating the carrier behavior of the CuSe@CdS heterojunction. The CuSe@CdS composites show enhanced and wide absorption in the full spectrum due to the LSPR effect of CuSe. Meanwhile, the composites show excellent photocatalytic hydrogen capacity in the full spectrum in a 0.35 M Na2S/0.25 M Na2SO3 sacrificial reagent solution. The best hydrogen production rate of CSCE2 is 1.518 mmol g-1 h-1 (5.54 times higher than that of CdS) under Vis light (780 > λ > 420 nm) irradiation and 0.28 mmol g-1 h-1 under NIR light (λ > 780 nm) illumination. Interestingly, the photocatalytic activity for H2 under Vis-NIR light (λ > 420 nm) is about 3 times (up to 4.45 mmol g-1 h-1) higher than that without NIR light assistance, due to the photothermal effect. Various analyses and DFT calculations demonstrate that the p-n heterojunction formed in the composites consists of p-type CuSe and n-type CdS, which achieves efficient carrier transfer and separation under the synergistic effect of the size effect and the photothermal effect. In addition, the expansion of the photocatalytic performance to the NIR range is mainly due to the "hot-electron" injection mechanism induced by the LSPR effect of CuSe. The reasonable design coupled with the plasmonic materials offers a new path to achieving the highly efficient conversion of solar energy to hydrogen energy.

ABSTRACT

Objective: This study aims to explore the predictive value of preoperative C-reactive protein (CRP) and other inflammatory biomarkers: platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) for postoperative complications (infection, diarrhea, etc.) in colorectal tumor patients. Methods: A cohort of 109 colorectal tumor patients who underwent surgical resection for colorectal cancer at the hospital from January 2021 to December 2022 were selected as the research subjects. Patients' postoperative complications were tracked, and they were split into the complication group and the non-complication group. All patients underwent preoperative biochemical tests. Serum levels of CRP, PLR, and NLR were compared between the two groups. The relationship between these markers and postoperative complications in colorectal tumor patients was analyzed. A Logistic regression model was established to analyze their impact on postoperative complications, and a Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve was drawn to assess predictive value. Results: Among the 109 colorectal tumor patients, 31 cases (28.44%) experienced postoperative complications. The complication group had larger tumor diameters and a higher proportion of open surgeries compared to the non-complication group (P < .05). Serum levels of CRP, PLR, and NLR were higher in the complication group compared to the non-complication group (P < .05). Correlation analysis showed that serum CRP, PLR, and NLR values were positively correlated with postoperative complications in colorectal tumor patients (r > 0, P < .05). The Logistic regression model revealed that high serum CRP levels (95%CI: 1.253-2.503), PLR (95%CI: 1.005-1.041), and NLR values (95%CI: 2.702-20.533) were risk factors for postoperative complications in colorectal tumor patients (OR>1, P < .05). The ROC curve demonstrated that serum CRP levels, PLR, and NLR values had certain predictive values for postoperative complications in colorectal tumor patients (AUC=0.811, 0.789, 0.870), the optimal predictive values were obtained when the cut-off values were set at 5.400 mg/L, 142.790, and 2.485, respectively and combined detection showed even higher predictive values (AUC=0.913). At 1 week post-surgery, the patient's CRP levels, PLR value, and NLR value were significantly lower than pre-surgery (P < .05). Conclusion: Preoperative serum CRP, PLR, and NLR values are closely related to postoperative complications in colorectal tumor patients, and they can be used to predict the risk of postoperative complications in colorectal tumor patients. Clinically, early prediction of postoperative complications in patients can be achieved by measuring the aforementioned indicators, allowing for the implementation of appropriate preventive measures such as detoxification and infection control to improve patient outcomes.

ABSTRACT

Accumulating evidences have shown that Peptostreptococcus anaerobius (P.a) is abundantly enriched in the fetus of colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. P.a is reported able to invade colorectal tissues. This study intends to uncover the clinical significance of P.a in CRC. Mucosal tissues collected from CRC cases (n=109) and precancerous healthy ones (n=65) were subjected to the determination of the absolute copy number of P.a by droplet digital PCR. The positive rate of P.a in mucosal tissues of CRC and healthy ones was 79.8% (87/109), and 55.4% (36/65), respectively. The average absolute copy number of P.a in them was 2.3 copy/ng DNA, and 0.32 copy/ng DNA, respectively. The abundance of P.a in mucosal tissues of CRC, and age and TNM staging of CRC cases were correlated to its survival. The abundance of P.a in CRC cases was remarkably correlated to the relative level of SQLE. The abundance of P.a can be monitored to predict the prognosis of CRC.

ABSTRACT

Background: The genetic factors and pathogenesis of idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy-induced heart failure (IDCM-HF) have not been understood thoroughly; there is a lack of specific diagnostic markers and treatment methods for the disease. Hence, we aimed to identify the mechanisms of action at the molecular level and potential molecular markers for this disease. Methods: Gene expression profiles of IDCM-HF and non-heart failure (NF) specimens were acquired from the database of Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO). We then identified the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and analyzed their functions and related pathways by using "Metascape". Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) was utilized to search for key module genes. Candidate genes were identified by intersecting the key module genes identified via WGCNA with DEGs and further screened via the support vector machine-recursive feature elimination (SVM-RFE) method and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) algorithm. At last, the biomarkers were validated and evaluated the diagnostic efficacy by the area under curve (AUC) value and further confirmed the differential expression in the IDCM-HF and NF groups using an external database. Results: We detected 490 genes exhibiting differential expression between IDCM-HF and NF specimens from the GSE57338 dataset, with most of them being concentrated in the extracellular matrix (ECM) of cells related to biological processes and pathways. After screening, 13 candidate genes were identified. Aquaporin 3 (AQP3) and cytochrome P450 2J2 (CYP2J2) showed high diagnostic efficacy in the GSE57338 and GSE6406 datasets, respectively. In comparison to the NF group, AQP3 was significantly down-regulated in the IDCM-HF group, while CYP2J2 was significantly up-regulated. Conclusion: As far as we know, this is the first study that combines WGCNA and machine learning algorithms to screen for potential biomarkers of IDCM-HF. Our findings suggest that AQP3 and CYP2J2 could be used as novel diagnostic markers and treatment targets of IDCM-HF.

ABSTRACT

Photocatalysts with hollow structures have drawn great interest owing to their high specific surface area, which can enhance the photocatalytic performance. Herein, we designed the hollow cubic Cu2-xS@Ni-Mo-S nanocomposites by vulcanizing from the Cu2O template and loading the Ni-Mo-S lamellas. The Cu2-xS@Ni-Mo-S composites greatly improved the photocatalytic hydrogen performance. Among them, Cu2-xS-NiMo-5 achieved the optimal photocatalytic rate of 1326.07 µmol/g h, which is approximately 3.85 times higher than that of hollow Cu2-xS (344 µmol/g h) and had good stability for 16 h. The enhanced photocatalytic property was attributed to the metallic behavior of bimetallic Ni-Mo-S lamellas and the LSPR (localized surface plasmon resonance) effect of Cu2-xS. The bimetallic Ni-Mo-S can effectively capture the photogenerated electrons and quickly transfer-diffuse to produce H2. Meanwhile, the hollow Cu2-xS not only provided many more active sites to take part in the reaction but also introduced the LSPR effect to increase the solar utilization. This work provides valuable insights into the synergistic effect of using non-precious metal co-catalysts and the LSPR materials to assist in the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution.

ABSTRACT

An enantioselective total synthesis of the alleged structure of (+)-fimbricalyxoid A is reported. The synthetic strategy features a pyridine-N-oxidate-mediated SN2' reaction to introduce an oxygen functionality at position C3 of the A-ring and a sequential three-step process via the cleavage of the C-O bonds and hemiketalization to form the 3,20-oxybridge. With this strategy, the target molecule was synthesized in 19% overall yield and 12 steps from our previously synthesized cis-fused octahydrophenanthrene (+)-6.

ABSTRACT

A three-step process for the enantioselective assembly of cis-fused octahydrophenanthrenes with a quaternary stereocenter is reported. This synthetic strategy relies on a regioselective γ-alkylation, a one-pot sequence of asymmetric hydrogenation and oxidation, and an intramolecular enolate arylation to facilitate the rapid and enantioselective construction of cis-fused octahydrophenanthrene scaffolds with an arylated all-carbon quaternary stereocenter concisely and efficiently.

ABSTRACT

This paper studies the evolution of the microstructure and microhardness in the G115 side of the G115/Sanicro25 dissimilar steel welded joint during the creep process. The joints were subjected to creep tests at 675 °C, 140 MPa, 120 MPa and 100 MPa. A scanning electron microscope equipped with an electron backscattering diffraction camera was used to observe the microstructure of the cross-section. The fracture position of the joint and the relationship between the cavity and the second phase were analyzed. The microstructure morphology of the fracture, the base metal and the thread end was compared and the composition and size of the Laves phase were statistically analyzed. The results show that the fracture locations are all located in the fine-grain heat-affected zone (FGHAZ) zone, and the microstructure near the fracture is tempered martensite. There are two kinds of cavity in the fracture section. Small cavities sprout adjacent to the Laves phase; while large cavities occupy the entire prior austenite grain, there are more precipitated phases around the cavities. The Laves phase nucleates at the boundary of the M23C6 carbide and gradually grows up by merging the M23C6 carbide. Creep accelerates the coarsening rate of the Laves phase; aging increases the content of W element in the Laves phase.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: In this study, we evaluated the feasibility of the combining CNV-seq and quantitative fluorescence polymerase chain reaction (QF-PCR) for miscarriage analysis in clinical practice. METHODS: Over a 35-month period, a total of 389 fetal specimens including 356 chorionic villi and 33 fetal muscle tissues were analyzed by CNV-seq and QF-PCR. Relationships between the risk factors (e.g., advanced maternal age, abnormal pregnancy history, and gestational age) and incidence of these chromosomal abnormalities were further analyzed by subgroup. RESULTS: Clinically significant chromosomal abnormalities were identified in 58.95% cases. Aneuploidy was the most common abnormality (46.84%), followed by polyploidy (8.16%) and structural chromosome anomalies (3.95%). In sub-group analysis, significant differences were found in the total frequency of chromosomal abnormalities between the early abortion and the late abortion group, as well as in the distribution of chromosomal abnormalities between the advanced and the younger maternal age group. Meanwhile, the results of the logistic regression analysis identified a trend suggesting that the percentage of fetal chromosomal abnormalities is significantly higher in advanced maternal age, lesser gestational age, and lesser number of prior miscarriages. CONCLUSION: Our study suggests that CNV-seq and QF-PCR are efficient and reliable technologies in the fetal chromosome analysis of miscarriages and could be used as a routine selection method for the genetic analysis of spontaneous abortion.

ABSTRACT

Herein, we report a practical method for efficient asymmetric hydrogenation of ß-aryl alkylidene malonates. With a site-specifically tailored chiral spiro iridium catalyst, a series of ß-aryl alkylidene malonate esters were hydrogenated to afford chiral malonate esters with good to excellent enantioselectivities (up to 99% ee) and high turnover numbers (up to 19000). The results showed that installing an ester group in α,ß-unsaturated carboxylic esters significantly increased the efficiency of their asymmetric hydrogenation reactions.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Ticagrelor is currently recommended for patients with the acute coronary syndrome (ACS). However, recent studies have yielded controversial results. OBJECTIVE: To compare the clinical outcomes between ticagrelor and clopidogrel in patients with ACS. METHODS: Three electronic databases were queried until April 25, 2021. We defined major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) as the primary efficacy endpoint. The secondary efficacy endpoints included stroke, stent thrombosis, cardiovascular death, all-cause death, and myocardial infarction. The safety endpoints were (major and minor) bleeding. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% CIs were calculated to represent the estimated effect sizes. RESULTS: A total of 270,937 patients with ACS from 10 clinical trials and 18 observational studies were included. No significant difference was detected in MACE (OR 0.81, 95% CI 0.60-1.08, p = 0.15, I 2 = 64.83%). However, ticagrelor introduced a higher risk of bleeding (1.46, 1.17-1.83, 0.00, 61.66%) and minor bleeding (1.71, 1.33-2.21, 0.00, 4.65%) in clinical trials. The results of secondary efficacy endpoints differed in the clinical trials and observational studies. Subgroup analysis demonstrated that ticagrelor showed better therapeutic effects in patients who underwent the percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) (0.38, 0.23-0.63, 0.00, 0) than those intended for PCI (1.03, 0.76-1.38, 0.87, 64.26%). Meanwhile, ticagrelor showed different therapeutic effects on patients with ACS of different ethnicities and different countries. CONCLUSION: This meta-analysis demonstrated that ticagrelor is not superior to clopidogrel in MACE but is associated with a higher risk of bleeding in patients with ACS. Different PCI strategies, ethnicities, and countries may be the factors that contribute to different therapeutic effects of ticagrelor. ABSTRACT

In the phase 3 ASPECT-NP trial (NCT02070757), ceftolozane/tazobactam (C/T) was noninferior to meropenem for treatment of Gram-negative ventilated hospital-acquired bacterial pneumonia and ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia (vHABP/VABP). Here, we report outcomes in participants from ASPECT-NP with renal impairment (RI). Participants were categorized by their baseline renal function as follows: normal renal function (NRF; creatinine clearance [CLCR], ≥80 ml/min), mild RI (CLCR, >50 to <80 ml/min), moderate RI (CLCR, ≥30 to ≤50 ml/min), and severe RI (CLCR, ≥15 to <30 ml/min). Dosing of both study drugs was adjusted based on renal function. The following C/T doses were administered every 8 h: NRF or mild RI, 3 g; moderate RI, 1.5 g; and severe RI, 0.75 g. The primary and key secondary endpoints were day 28 all-cause mortality (ACM) and clinical response at the test-of-cure visit in the intention-to-treat (ITT) population, respectively. In the ITT population, day 28 ACM rates for the C/T arm versus the meropenem arm were 17.6% versus 19.1% (NRF), 36.6% versus 28.6% (mild RI), 31.4% versus 38.5% (moderate RI), and 35.3% versus 61.9% (severe RI). Rates of clinical cure in the ITT population for the C/T arm versus the meropenem arm were 58.1% versus 58.5% (NRF), 54.9% versus 45.5% (mild RI), 37.1% versus 42.3% (moderate RI), and 41.2% versus 47.6% (severe RI). Small sample sizes in the RI groups resulted in large 95% confidence intervals (CIs), limiting conclusive interpretation of the analysis. Both drugs were well tolerated across all renal function groups. Overall, these results support the use of the study dosing regimens of C/T for treatment of vHABP/VABP in patients with RI. (This study has been registered at ClinicalTrials.gov under identifier NCT02070757.).

ABSTRACT

Ischemic heart disease (IHD) is one of the world's leading causes of human death. Kaempferol (Kae) was proved to have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer effects. Such properties suggested that it might play protective roles in IHD. In this study, we have attempted to disclose the potential regulating mechanisms of Kae in primary cardiomyocytes and H9c2 cells.Cells were first stimulated by oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD) and then exposed to Kae. CCK-8 assay and flow cytometry were used to examine cell characteristics. Quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction was utilized to test the expression levels of miR-15b and TLR4. Afterward, cell transfection, dual-luciferase activity assay, and western blot were used to explore the potential mechanisms.OGD treatment suppressed cell viability, whereas it enhanced cell apoptosis. Besides, OGD treatment enhanced the expression of apoptosis-associated proteins. Kae exposure, however, attenuated the effects that OGD-induced. Further experiments showed that Kae exposure promoted down-regulation of miR-15b, Bcl-2 and TLR4 were a target of miR-15b. Moreover, Kae enhanced the expression of key factors involved in PI3K/AKT and Wnt/ß-catenin pathways, whereas miR-15b mimic reversed the Kae-triggered effects. This investigation revealed that Kae diminished OGD-triggered cell damage through down-regulating miR-15b expression via activating PI3K/AKT and Wnt3a/ß-catenin pathways.

ABSTRACT

A concise, divergent, asymmetric total syntheses of mulinane diterpenoids has been achieved. Specifically, a new strategy was developed featuring a key intramolecular Friedel-Crafts reaction to construct the chiral fused 5-6-6 tricyclic motif, followed by sequential Birch reduction, conjugate methylation, and homologation/ring-expansion reactions to furnish the desired 5-6-7 tricyclic skeleton bearing five contiguous stereocenters. With this efficient strategy, seven mulinane diterpenoids and two analogues were synthesized via late-stage functional modification or functionalization in 8.6-20 % overall yields and 11-15 steps.

ABSTRACT

A highly efficient iridium-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of tetrasubstituted cyclic enones has been developed for the enantioselective synthesis of chiral cycloalkanols with three contiguous stereocenters. The C═O and C═C bonds of the enone substrates were hydrogenated sequentially in one pot with excellent enantioselectivity (92 to >99% ee) and diastereoselectivity (dr 95:5 to >99:1). The reaction provided a practical approach to all of the stereoisomers of the antiulcer drug rosaprostol.

ABSTRACT

Pb2Bi2GaB3O11, a new congruent-melting galloborate, which simultaneously contains two types of lone-pair cations and a π-conjugated system in one crystal structure, has been discovered through spontaneous crystallization. Single-crystal X-ray structural analysis shows that Pb2Bi2GaB3O11 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group of C2/c. The parameters of the unit cell are a = 17.318(5) Å, b = 8.868(3) Å, c = 6.779(2) Å, ß = 90.238(4)° and Z = 6. The structure of Pb2Bi2GaB3O11 features three kinds of tunnels, circled by cation polyhedra, in two of which isolated BO3 groups reside. However, the open Bi4O4 channel, as the third tunnel formed by the Bi-O polyhedra, is hollow. Pb2Bi2GaB3O11 possesses an experimental band gap of 4.43 eV and an ultraviolet (UV) cut-off edge of about 280 nm, which is proven by its diffuse reflection spectrum. Theoretical calculations have also been executed to evaluate its band structure, partial density of state (PDOS) and birefringence. The results indicate that the title compound possesses a direct band gap with a theoretical value of 3.48 eV, and even indicate that the Pb2+ and Bi3+ ions are stereochemically active and cooperate with the BO3 groups, which contributes to a moderate birefringence of about 0.07 at 589 nm for Pb2Bi2GaB3O11.

ABSTRACT

As potential candidates for deep-UV nonlinear optical (NLO) crystals, borosilicates and borogermanates, which contain NLO-active groups such as B-O, Si-O and Ge-O, have fascinated many scientists. The crystal structures, electronic structures and optical properties of seven borates in different B/R (R = Si, Ge) ratios have been studied using DFT methods. Through the SHG-density, we find that besides the recognized contribution of the π-conjugation configuration of BO3 to second harmonic generation (SHG), the tetrahedra have a non-negligible influence. This is because the non-bonding p orbitals of the bridging oxygen in the tetrahedra are observably closer to the Fermi level than those in BO3, which is observed in the PDOS of Rb4Ge3B6O17 and RbGeB3O7. This conclusion would be very meaningful in the understanding of the relationship between the crystal structure and nonlinear optical properties.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To explore academic significance and guiding function played by subspecialty groups of the Society of Pediatrics, Chinese Medical Association on Chinese pediatric clinical practice through a statistical analysis of the articles published by the subspecialty groups. METHOD: Bibliometric methods were used to analyze the number of articles, article types, total citations, highly cited articles and the distribution of citing journals. RESULT: Totally 7 156 articles were published in Chinese Journal of Pediatrics from 1993 (31) to 2012 (51), of which 187 by subspecialty groups of pediatrics (2.6%), with a total citations of 11 985. Among them, 137 articles were cited with a citation rate of 73.3% and average citations for each article was 64.1. Articles classified as clinical guidelines had been totally cited for 10 900 times with average citations of 123.86 per article. The article on Neonatal hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy diagnosis and clinical index was cited 1 791 times ranked in highly cited literatures. All the top three cited literature periodicals were core journals of pediatrics, and 10 periodicals among the top 20 were in pediatrics and the rest in other medical fields. CONCLUSION: The number of the articles published by the subspecialty groups of pediatrics was increasing year by year though the portion it in the total number of the articles in the journal was not large. However, the citation frequency of the articles by the subspecialty groups of pediatrics was high, making an obvious contribution to the total citations of Chinese Journal of Pediatrics. The total citation rate of clinical guideline articles and their average rate was higher than those of other articles published in this journal, which meant that this type of articles provided academic references with guiding significance for clinical practice of pediatrics and for other medical fields as well.
