ABSTRACT

Most metal sites and some non-metallic sites such as carbon and nitrogen are usually considered to be traditional active sites during peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation. However, as an important non-metallic element, the actual role of silicon (Si) in PMS activation still remains unclear. In this work, taking iron silicate (FeSi) as an example, the role of the Si region in PMS activation was clearly revealed. The experiments and density functional theory (DFT) calculation results showed that besides the traditional Fe sites, the Si also played a non-negligible role during PMS activation. In FeSi containing oxygen vacancies (Ovac), Fe-Si was the active site instead of Fe-Fe. The Bard charge results implied that the presence of Ovac tuned the electronic properties of FeSi, making the Si participate in PMS activation. This work deepened understanding of the role of Si in silicates for PMS activation and provided a theoretical basis for the development of excellent Si-based catalysts.

ABSTRACT

A series of N,O-coordinate iridium(III) complexes with a half-sandwich motif bearing Schiff base ligands for catalytic hydrogenation of nitro and carbonyl substrates have been synthesized. All iridium complexes showed efficient catalytic activity for the hydrogenation of ketones, aldehydes, and nitro-containing compounds using clean H2 as reducing reagent. The iridium catalyst displayed the highest TON values of 960 and 950 in the hydrogenation of carbonyl and nitro substrates, respectively. Various types of substrates with different substituted groups afforded corresponding products in excellent yields. All N,O-coordinate iridium(III) complexes 1-4 were well characterized by IR, NMR, HRMS, and elemental analysis. The molecular structure of complex 1 was further characterized by single-crystal X-ray determination.

ABSTRACT

Four air-stable cyclometalated half-sandwich iridium complexes 1-4 with C,N-donor Schiff base ligands were prepared through C-H activation in moderate-to-good yields. These complexes have been well characterized, and their exact structure was elaborated on by single-crystal X-ray analysis. The iridium(III) complexes 1-4 showed good catalytic activity in the imine synthesis under open-flask conditions (air as the oxidant) from primary amine oxidative homocoupling, secondary amine dehydrogenation, and the cross-coupling reaction of amine and alcohol. Substituents bonded on the ligands of the iridium complexes displayed little effect on the catalytic efficiency. The stability and good catalytic efficiency of the iridium catalysts, mild reaction conditions, and substrate universality showed their potential application in industrial production.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To find out the current coverage of antiretroviral therapy (ART) among HIV positive subjects and to identify the major influential factors associated with the participation in ART among them. METHODS: 291 HIV positive subjects from 6 methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) clinics in Guangxi and Yunnan province were surveyed by questionnaires. RESULTS: 217 males (74.6%) and 74 females (25.4%) were under investigation, with the average age of 38.4 +/- 5.9. Most of them received less than senior high school education, married and unemployed. Results from the single factor logistic regression analysis showed that: working status, living alone, self-reported history of drinking alcohol in the last month, negative attitude towards MMT among family members, poor self-reported compliance to MMT in the last month, lack of incentives in the MMT clinics, reluctance on disclosure of their own HIV status, good self-perception on their health status, lack of communication on ART related topics among family members in the last 6 months, lack of correct attitude and knowledge on ART etc. appeared as the main factors that influencing the participation in ART program among the patients. Data from the multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that factors as: living alone, unwilling to tell others about the status of HIV infection, poor self-perception on HIV infection, lack of discussion of ART related topics within family members in the last 6 months and poor awareness towards ART among the family members etc., were associated with the low participation rate of ART. Conclusion Strengthening the publicity and education programs on HIV positive patients and their family members at the MMT clinics seemed to be effective in extending the ART coverage. Attention should also be paid to increase the family support to the patients.
