ABSTRACT

Nanodrug delivery systems have demonstrated a great potential for tumor therapy with the development of nanotechnology. Nonetheless, traditional drug delivery systems are faced with issues such as complex synthetic procedures, low reproducibility, nonspecific distribution, impenetrability of biological barrier, systemic toxicity, etc. In recent years, phage-based nanoplatforms have attracted increasing attention in tumor treatment for their regular structure, fantastic carrying property, high transduction efficiency and biosafety. Notably, therapeutic or targeting peptides can be expressed on the surface of the phages through phage display technology, enabling the phage vectors to possess multifunctions. As a result, the drug delivery efficiency on tumor will be vastly improved, thereby enhancing the therapeutic efficacy while reducing the side effects on normal tissues. Moreover, phages can overcome the hindrance of biofilm barrier to elicit antitumor effects, which exhibit great advantages compared with traditional synthetic drug delivery systems. Herein, this review not only summarizes the structure and biology of the phages, but also presents their potential as prominent nanoplatforms against tumor in different pathways to inspire the development of effective nanomedicine.

ABSTRACT

AIM: To investigate the effect of modified Chufeng Yisun Decoction on ocular surface inflammation after pterygium surgery.METHODS: A total of 60 patients(60 eyes)with primary pterygium who underwent pterygium surgery were randomly divided into control group and study group, with 30 cases(30 eyes)in each group. In the control group, patients were treated with pranoprofen eye drops, tobramycin dexamethasone eye drops, and deproteinized calf blood extract eye gel after the surgery. In the study group, patients were treated by oral modified Chufeng Yisun Decoction in addition to the treatments in the control group. The changes of ocular irritation symptoms, ocular inflammatory signs, tear interleukin 6(IL-6)levels, and tear ferning test(TFT)of patients in the two groups were assessed.RESULTS: The visual analogue scale(VAS)in patients of both groups was significantly lower at 2d and 1wk after the surgery than that at 1d after the surgery(all P<0.01), and the VAS of the study group was significantly better than that of the control group at 2d and 1wk after surgery(P<0.01). The ocular signs integrals(OSI)and TFT results of both groups at 1wk were significantly lower than those at 1d after the surgery(all P<0.01), and the OSI and TFT were also lower in the study group than in the control group at 1wk after the surgery(all P<0.01). In addition, the concentration of tear IL-6 in both groups was significantly lower at 1wk after the surgery than 1d after the surgery(all P<0.01), and it was also significantly lower in the study group than in the control group at 1wk after the surgery(P<0.05).CONCLUSION: The combination of Chufeng Yisun Decoction and conventional treatment of western has a better effect on controlling ocular surface inflammation after pterygium surgery.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To explore the indication law of fourteen channels acupoint that is located in the same nervous segment of T1-T12 on the back and abdomen.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>By retrieving indications of fourteen channels acupoint that is located in the dominating areas of T1 - T12 in LIN Zhao-geng 's New Collection of Acupuncture-moxibustion and SHEN Xue-yong's Science of meridian-collateral and acupoint, indications of fourteen channels acupoint in the same nervous segment of skin and muscle were statistically managed, respectively.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>There was an obvious nervous segmental law of acupoint in the skin and muscle. The acupoint indication of neighboring nervous segment was similar, which was closely related to corresponding internal organs.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The acupoint indication is decided by the space of nervous segment which dominats their related organ. From aspect of nervous structure, this article confirms that acupoint indications focus on nervous segment to carry out the regulation effect of acupoint on internal organs function, which means it has superior regulation effect on internal organs disease that is located in the same or neighboring nervous segment of acupoint.</p>

ABSTRACT

A new production method of fracture fixation splint is introduced in the paper. The basic raw materials are multi-isocyanic acid, mixed with surfactants, catalysts, fillers, and so on. The splint, with light weight, high strength, and good injured anastomosis site, could be able to shape easily. It is dry and comfortable, avoiding a gas-tight uncomfortable feeling, easy to remove, remodel, nurse, clean and disinfect after fixed. Patients also could film review directly with fixed splint.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the function of a novel biosensor used for the rapid determination of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) which is developed by our research group based on suspended immobilized microbial cell system in a completely mixed determining chamber as a substitute of the traditional membrane system.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Activated sludge was immobilized by PVA gel and used as a bio-sensing element. The novel biosensor was used to measure the short time BOD value and the conventional cultivation method was used for BOD5 measurement.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>A linear relationship was observed for the difference between the current and the concentration of glucose-glutamic acid (GGA) solution below 200 mg/L with a correlation coefficient of 0.995. The optimal response of the sensor was obtained at pH 7.0 and 30 degrees C. The sensor response was within 15 min and was reproducible within +/- 5% of the mean in a series of eight samples containing 75 mg/L BOD using standard GGA solution. The novel sensor response was found to be fairly constant over a period of 30 days, with +/- 5% fluctuations.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>A relatively good agreement is found between BOD estimated by the novel BOD biosensor and that determined by the conventional 5-day BOD method. This novel BOD biosensor has good sensitivity, stability and reproducibility.</p>

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To study the distribution of human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1) strains subtypes in Shandong province and to study their source in order to predict the epidemic trend. METHODS: Epidemiological investigation was made and 93 DNA fragments of HIV-1 env, gag, tat gene were amplified by nested polymerase chain reaction from people infected with HIV-1, in 2002 - 2003. Their C2-V3, P17/P24, 1st exon of tat and adjacent region were sequenced. RESULTS: Sequence analysis showed that there were 7 HIV-1 strains or circulating recombinant forms (CRFs), B' (n = 71), CRF01-AE (n = 9), CRF07-BC (n = 3), CRF08-BC (n = 3), B (n = 2), C (n = 2), CRF02-AG (n = 2). B' strains was the predominant which, covered 10 cities and 4 kinds of population including blood donors, blood receivers, spouses of the infected people and clients of the sex workers. CRF07-BC, CRF08-BC strains were identified in 5 cities, mainly from injecting drug users. CRF01-AE and other strains were found distributed in developed cities, among sex workers. CONCLUSION: There were many kinds of subtypes and CRFs of HIV and their genomes which generated obvious variation in Shandong province, suggesting that they might facilitate the spread of the disease in Shandong province.
