ABSTRACT

With the increase of hexavalent Cr(VI) wastewater discharged from industrial production, it seriously pollutes water bodies and poses a risk to human health. Adsorption is used as an effective means to treat Cr(VI), but its effectiveness is affected by pH, and the adsorption performance decreases when acidity is strong. Furthermore, research on the mechanism of Cr(VI) adsorption using DFT calculations needs to be developed. This study focuses on the development of magnetically responsive core-shell nano-ion imprinted materials (Fe3O4@GO@IIP) through magnetic separation and surface imprinting techniques. Characterization techniques including FT-IR, XRD, and EDS confirmed the core-shell nanostructure of Fe3O4@GO@IIP. Batch adsorption experiments and model simulations demonstrated the exceptional adsorption capacity of Fe3O4@GO@IIP for Cr(VI) in strongly acidic solutions (pH = 1), reaching a maximum of 89.18 mg/g. The adsorption mechanism was elucidated through XPS and DFT calculations, revealing that Fe3O4@GO@IIP operates through electrostatic interactions and chemical adsorption, with charge transfer dynamics quantified during the process. This research provides new insights for addressing Cr(VI) treatment in highly acidic environments.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Dental implants are a common method for the treatment of tooth loss, and its accuracy directly affects forward efficacy and stability. This study compared the accuracy of different modalities of dental implant placement (dynamic navigation [DN], fully guided [FG] static navigation, partially guided [PG] static navigation, and free handed [FH]) through a network meta-analysis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines and conducted an electronic literature search (Inception-Oct 2, 2022). The comparison of implant accuracy in all the included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) conformed to at least one of the following: deviation at the crown of the implant, deviation at the apical portion of the implant, or angular deviation of the implant. RESULTS: Twenty-six articles were included for the qualitative analysis (17 RCTs; 3 prospective studies; 6 retrospective studies), and 17 RCTs of which were included for network meta-analysis. The data included in this study had high consistency, and the funnel plot showed that the articles had low publication bias. Compared with FH, FG and DN had higher accuracy in coronal deviation (P<0.05), and FG, DN, and PG had higher accuracy in apical deviation and angular deviation (P<0.05). According to the SUCRA value, FG had the highest accuracy in coronal deviation, while DN had the highest accuracy in apical deviation and angular deviation. CONCLUSIONS: According to the results of this literature review, the accuracy of DN, FG, and PG were higher than those of FH. DN showed the highest accuracy in terms of apical deviation and angular deviation. FG had the best control over the coronal deviation. There was no statistical difference between DN and FG in terms of accuracy. Given the limitations of the current study, further validation is required in the future.

ABSTRACT

Background: Findings on the associations between psychological symptoms and driving behaviors in private car drivers are inadequate. Method: The study consisted of 3,115 private car drivers in Yulin, China. The measurements included socio-demographic data, traffic violations, accidents, and Symptom Checklist-90 (SCL-90). In addition, an ordered logistic regression model was employed to examine the association between each psychological symptom and risky driving behaviors. Results: The overall prevalence rate of any self-reported psychological symptom was 10.24%, with 9.22% for males and 11.49% for females. Among them, obsessive-compulsive, interpersonal sensitivity, additional items, hostility, and depression were the five most common psychological symptoms, with prevalence rates of 7.90, 6.29, 6.00, 5.91, and 5.62%, respectively. Any psychological symptom factor was associated with a higher risk of traffic violations and accidents. However, the intensity of the correlations varied, with obsessive-compulsive symptoms the strongest in general traffic violations and anxiety symptoms in traffic accidents. All psychological symptoms except phobic anxiety and paranoid ideation contributed to a higher risk of failing the driver's license test. Conclusions: The prevalence rate of psychological symptoms was high in private car drivers. This study calls for an urgent need to establish a pilot tertiary prevention strategy to reduce risky driving behaviors through psychological symptom screening and interventions among private car drivers.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: CBT and its modifications are effective for depression, but its efficacy for preventing depressive relapse/recurrence remains unclear. METHODS: A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted scrutinizing the efficacy of CBT and its modifications for preventing depressive relapse/recurrence in randomized controlled trials. The retrieval database included PubMed, Web of Science, MEDLINE, and three major Chinese databases (CNKI, VIP, Wanfang), and the retrieval period was from January 1, 2009, to July 1, 2022. Data were analyzed by RevMan 5.4 and Stata 16. RESULTS: A total of 28 randomized controlled trials with 3938 participants were included. The relapse/recurrence rates in CBT and its modifications and the control group were 31.6 % and 41.3 %, respectively; CBT and its modifications significantly reduced the risk of developing a new depressive episode (RR, 0.73, 95%CI, 0.64-0.83). Stratified by follow-up time, both CBT and its modifications significantly reduced the relapse/recurrence of depression at ≤12 months (RR, 0.61, 95%CI, 0.47-0.79) and > 12 months (RR, 0.74, 95%CI, 0.59-0.93) compared with other active treatments. The beneficial effects of CBT and its modifications alone in reducing depressive relapse/recurrence were equivalent to those of antidepressant medication alone (RR, 1.01, 95 % CI, 0.79-1.28). Meta-regression results showed that the intervention method (P = 0.005) was one of the sources of heterogeneity. LIMITATIONS: Further subgroup analysis is limited by the literature. CONCLUSION: CBT and its modifications are reliable interventions for preventing relapse/recurrence in patients with depression. Further research is needed to determine the specific conditions for CBT and its applications in clinical practice.

ABSTRACT

In contrast to dog-associated human rabies cases decline year by year due to the rabies vaccination coverage rates increase in China, ferret badger (FB, Melogale moschata)-associated human rabies cases emerged in the 1990s, and are now an increasingly recognized problem in southeast China. To investigate epidemiology, temporal evolution dynamics, transmission characterization, and pathogenicity of FB-associated rabies viruses (RABVs), from 2008 to 2018, we collected 3,622 FB brain samples in Jiangxi and Zhejiang Province, and detected 112 RABV isolates. Four FB-related lineages were identified by phylogenetic analysis (lineages A-D), the estimated Times to Most Recent Common Ancestor were 1941, 1990, 1937, and 1997 for lineages A-D, respectively. Furthermore, although no FB-associated human rabies case has been reported there apart from Wuyuan area, FB-RABV isolates are mainly distributed in Jiangxi Province. Pathogenicity of FB-RABVs was assessed using peripheral inoculation in mice and in beagles with masseter muscles, mortality-rates ranging from 20 to 100% in mice and 0 to 20% in beagles in the groups infected with the various isolates. Screening of sera from humans with FB bites and no post-exposure prophylaxis to rabies revealed that five of nine were positive for neutralizing antibodies of RABV. All the results above indicated that FB-RABV variants caused a lesser pathogenicity in mice, beagles, and even humans. Vaccination in mice suggests that inactivated vaccine or recombinant subunit vaccine products can be used to control FB-associated rabies, however, oral vaccines for stray dogs and wildlife need to be developed and licensed in China urgently.

ABSTRACT

COVID-19 may increase the risk of suicide, but the conclusion is still unclear. This study was designed to assess the impact of COVID-19 on suicide pre-, during, and post the first wave of COVID-19 in China. It was reported that online public searching was associated with their offline thoughts and behaviors. Therefore, this study was designed to explore the online search for suicide pre-, during, and post-COVID-19 in China. The keywords on suicide, COVID-19, unemployment, and depression were collected in 2019 and 2020 using the Baidu Search Index (BSI). A time-series analysis examined the dynamic correlations between BSI-COVID-19 and BSI-suicide. A generalized estimating equation model was used to calculate the coefficients of variables associated with the BSI-suicide. The BSI-suicide showed a significant increase (15.6%, p = 0.006) from the 5th to 9th week, which was also the point of the first wave of the COVID-19 outbreak. A time-series analysis between BSI-suicide and BSI-COVID-19 showed that the strongest correlation occurred at lag 1+ and lag 2+ week. In the pre-COVID-19 model, only BSI-depression was highly associated with BSI-suicide (ß = 1.38, p = 0.008). During the COVID-19 model, BSI-depression (ß = 1.77, p = 0.040) and BSI-COVID-19 (ß = 0.03, p < 0.001) were significantly associated with BSI-suicide. In the post-COVID-19 model, BSI depression (ß = 1.55, p = 0.010) was still highly associated with BSI-suicide. Meanwhile, BSI-unemployment (ß = 1.67, p = 0.007) appeared to be linked to BSI-suicide for the first time. There was a surge in suicide-related online searching during the early stage of the first wave of the COVID-19 outbreak. Online suicide search volume peaked 1-2 weeks after the COVID-19 peak. The BSI of factors associated with suicide varied at different stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings in this study are preliminary and further research is needed to arrive at evidence of causality.
