ABSTRACT

Study objective: To investigate whether different timings of GnRH-a downregulation affected assisted reproductive outcomes in infertile women with moderate-to-severe intrauterine adhesions (IUAs) accompanied by adenomyosis. Design: A retrospective case series. Setting: An assisted reproductive technology center. Patients: The study reviewed 123 infertile women with moderate-to-severe IUAs accompanied by adenomyosis undergoing their first frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET) cycles between January 2019 and December 2021. Measurements and main results: The majority of patients had moderate IUA (n=116, 94.31%). The average Basal uterine volume was 73.58 ± 36.50 cm3. The mean interval from operation to the first downregulation was 21.07 ± 18.02 days (range, 1-79 days). The mean duration of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) was 16.93 ± 6.29 days. The average endometrial thickness on the day before transfer was 10.83 ± 1.75 mm. A total of 70 women achieved clinical pregnancy (56.91%). Perinatal outcomes included live birth (n=47, 67.14%), early miscarriage (n=18, 25.71%), and late miscarriage (n=5, 7.14%). The time interval between uterine operation and the first downregulation was not a significant variable affecting live birth. Maternal age was the only risk factor associated with live birth (OR:0.89; 95% CI: 0.79-0.99, P=0.041). Conclusions: The earlier initiation of GnRH-a to suppress adenomyosis prior to endometrial preparation for frozen embryo transfer did not negatively impact repair of the endometrium after resection.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Ultrasound has become a routine method for endometrial receptivity (ER) evaluation. However, there is controversy over the independent evaluation values of various ultrasound indicators. Some researchers have designed multi-indicator prediction systems, but their prediction values are uneven. To further our understanding of ER, we conducted this prospective cohort study to estimate ER noninvasively and effectively. Methods: Women who underwent the first frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET) cycle from April 2019 to July 2021 were included in the study. On the day of transfer, transvaginal three-dimensional ultrasound examination was performed to evaluate ER, including endometrial thickness, morphology, volume, movement, blood flow and flow index. The clinical pregnancy rate was the primary outcome. Based on whether clinical pregnancy was achieved, enrolled patients were divided into pregnant and nonpregnant groups. Results: This study analyzed 197 FET patients (139 pregnancies in total, 70.5%). The protective factors for clinical pregnancy included primary infertility [adjusted odds ratio (aOR), 1.98; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.01-3.882; p = 0.047] and more frequent endometrial peristalsis (aOR, 1.33; 95% CI, 1.028-1.722; p = 0.03). Scores of 1-2 were assigned according to the relationship between different ultrasound indicators and the clinical pregnancy rate (CPR). The ER score of the patient was the sum of the scores of the 6 items. The ER score of the pregnant group was significantly higher than that of the nonpregnant group (7.40 ± 1.73 vs. 6.33 ± 1.99, p = 0.001). The CPR increased with an increasing ER score. The CPR in the ER < 6 group was significantly lower than that in the ER >6 group (45.5% vs. 75.6%, p = 0.001). Conclusion: A noninvasive ultrasound scoring system for ER was proposed. This system may provide a non-invasive guidance perspective, in conjunction with invasive assessments currently used in clinical practice, to achieve more effective embryo transfer.

ABSTRACT

Objectives: There is no curative treatment for childhood obesity. We aim to synthesize published Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) evidence on the efficacy of exenatide in obese children and adolescents. Methods: We conducted a comprehensive search and analysis of relevant studies in popular databases such as PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library. Our focus was on RCTs that examined the effectiveness of exenatide for treating obesity in children. We primarily assessed changes in body weight, body mass index (BMI), fasting plasma glucose (FPG), or HbA1c levels. Additionally, we considered any adverse events reported during the treatment period, with particular attention to hypoglycemia. To evaluate the quality of RCTs included in our study, we employed the Cochrane bias assessment tool. Results: Five studies met the inclusion criteria. A group of 100 children were assigned to receive treatment with exenatide. Compared with controls, exenatide therapy reduced body weight and BMI by -0.6% (95% CI -0.93, -0.27), -1.11% (95% CI -1.91, -0.31), respectively. Undesirable consequences encompass gastrointestinal symptoms, with the majority of instances being characterized by mild severity. Conclusion: Exenatide demonstrates efficacy in the treatment of pediatric and adolescent obesity. ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Some causes of first-line treatment failure for ITP are often closely related to infections. But parasitic infections are rarely mentioned and easily overlooked. The case is the first to describe a boy with immune thrombocytopenia associated with blastocystis hominis. CASE PRESENTATION: The case involved a boy presenting with bleeding skin spots and ecchymosis and accompanied by intermittent epigastric pain and constipation. After a series of complete examinations, the platelet count was found to be decreased to 13 × 109/L and immune thrombocytopenia was diagnosed. After first-line treatment with gamma globulin and prednisolone, the thrombocytopenia remained unchanged. Blastocystis hominis was subsequently found in the patient's stool and then the treatment of metronidazole was provided. One week later, the patient's thrombocytopenia was completely relieved. He was followed up for six months and was found to have recovered well. CONCLUSIONS: The screening for potential predisposing factors is very important for immune thrombocytopenia patients with poor response to first-line treatment, and the best treatment strategy should include the management of potential diseases.

The sex chromosome, especially specific in one sex, generally determines sexual size dimorphism (SSD), a phenomenon with dimorphic sexual difference in the body size. For Cynoglossus semilaevis, a flatfish in China, although the importance of chromosome W and its specific gene zbed1 in female-biased SSD have been suggested, its family members and regulation information are still unknown. At present, three zbed1 copies gene were identified on chromosome W, with no gametologs. Phylogenetic analysis for the ZBED family revealed an existence of ZBED9 in the fish. Nine members were uncovered from C. semilaevis, clustering into three kinds, ZBED1, ZBED4 and ZBEDX, which is less than the eleven kinds of ZBED members in mammals. The predominant expression of zbed1 in the female brain and pituitary tissues was further verified by qPCR. Transcription factor c/ebpα could significantly enhance the transcriptional activity of zbed1 promoter, which is opposite to its effect on the male determinant factor-dmrt1. When zbed1 was interfered with, piwil1, esr2 and wnt7b were up-regulated, while cell-cycle-related genes, including cdk4 and ccng1, were down-regulated. Thus, zbed1 is involved in cell proliferation by regulating esr2, piwil1, cell cycle and the Wnt pathway. Further research on their interactions would be helpful to understand fish SSD.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to clarify the effect of CA (controlled atmosphere, 2-3% O2 + 3% CO2) and NO (nitric oxide, generated by 0.4 nM sodium nitroprusside), alone or combined (CA + NO), on the physio-chemical properties, enzyme activities and antioxidant capacities of chestnuts during storage at 0 °C for 180 d. Compared with control (CT), CA and CA+NO both improved the storage quality of the samples, but only CA resulted in more ethanol production. Moreover, these improvements were further enhanced and ethanol synthesis was inhibited by the addition of NO. A spectrometer was used to assess the production of phenolic content (TPC) and activities of phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL), superoxide dismutas (SOD), peroxidase (POD), catalase (CAT) and polyphenol oxidase (PPO) as influenced by CA or CA+NO treatments. Higher TPC, PAL, SOD, POD, CAT, and lower PPO were observed in CA alone, and more so in the combination with NO group. The increased antioxidant production and enhanced antioxidant activities contributed to scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reducing malondialdehyde (MDA). This study unveiled the correlations and differences between the effects of CA and CA+NO on storage quality, providing valuable insights into postharvest preservation and suggesting that the combination (CA+NO) was more beneficial for quality maintenance in chestnuts.

The lotus seed and lily bulb beverage (LLB) has a problem with solid particle sedimentation. To address this issue, LLB was homogenised twice at different pressures (0~100 MPa) using a homogeniser. This study aims to investigate the changes in the particle size distribution (PSD), microstructure, rheological behaviour, sedimentation index (IS), turbidity, physicochemical properties, and sensory quality of LLBs after homogenisation treatments. The results regarding PSD and microstructure showed that the suspended particles were decomposed at high pressure with increasing homogenisation pressure, forming small particles of cellular material, cell wall fragments, fibre fractions, and polymers. The LLB showed shear-thinning behaviour and weak gelation characteristics (G' > G″) and rheological properties. Among all homogenisation pressures, the 60 MPa sample showed the lowest sedimentation rate and the highest turbidity. When the pressure was increased from 0 to 100 MPa, the total soluble solid (TSS) content showed an upward trend, while the ascorbic acid content (AAC) gradually decreased. The highest sensory evaluation was observed in the 60 MPa sample in terms of overall acceptability.

ABSTRACT

This study investigated the effects of thermosonication (TS) on the quality of blackcurrant juice, along with its physicochemical properties, bioactive compounds, antioxidant capacity, and microbiological and sensory qualities. The treatments included raw juice (RJ), pasteurized juice (90 °C, 1 min, PJ), and thermosonicated juice (480 W, 40 kHz at 40, 50, or 60 °C, for 10, 20, 30, or 40 min, TJ). The results indicated that the effects of pasteurization and thermosonication on the pH, total soluble solids, and titratable acidity of the juice were not significant (p > 0.05). However, the cloudiness, browning index, and viscosity were significantly increased (p < 0.05), and the color properties of the blackcurrant juice were improved. The total phenolic, flavonoid, and anthocyanin contents of TJ (treated at 50 °C for 30 min) were increased by 12.6%, 20.9%, and 40.4%, respectively, and there was a notable decline in ascorbic acid content after the pasteurization treatment, while the loss was minor in all TJ samples compared with RJ. The scavenging ability of 1,1-diphenyl-2-pyridyl and hydroxyl radicals increased to 52.77% and 50.52%, respectively, which were significantly (p < 0.05) higher than those in the RJ and PJ samples. In addition, both pasteurization and thermosonication resulted in a significant (p < 0.05) reduction in microbial counts, while there were no significant (p > 0.05) differences in the sensory parameters compared with the RJ samples. In conclusion, this study suggests that TS is an effective method that can be used as an alternative to pasteurization to improve the quality of blackcurrant juice.

ABSTRACT

Tumour necrosis factor alpha-induced protein 2 (TNFAIP2) is a gene induced by tumor necrosis factor in endothelial cells. TNFAIP2 has important functions in physiological and pathological processes, including cell proliferation, adhesion, migration, angiogenesis, inflammation, tunneling nanotube (TNT) formation and tumorigenesis. Moreover, TNFAIP2 is the key factor in the formation of TNTs. TNTs are related to signal transduction between different cell types and are considered a novel means of cell-to-cell communication. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are pluripotent cells that exhibit self-renewal, multidirectional differentiation, paracrine function and immune-regulating ability. MSCs can transfer mitochondria through TNTs to improve the functions of target cells. This review revealed that TNFAIP2 promotes the formation of TNTs and that MSCs rely on TNTs for mitochondrial transfer to ameliorate cell dysfunction.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The use of antibiotics is essential in the treatment of sepsis and septic shock, and delaying their administration may impact patient mortality outcomes. However, there is currently a controversial debate surrounding this issue. In this meta-analysis, we aimed to explore the association between delayed antibiotic use and mortality in patients with sepsis and septic shock. METHODS: A systematic search was conducted on PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library to identify relevant studies published from 2013 to 2023. These studies focused on patients with sepsis or septic shock and provided information on various antibiotic administration times and mortality rates. Two independent reviewers screened and extracted the data. The quality of each study was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale, and the collected data were analyzed using STATA 15.1 software. RESULTS: A total of 29 studies were included, consisting of 17 prospective cohort studies and 12 retrospective cohort studies. The meta-analysis showed that compared to administration of antibiotics within 1 h, each hour of delay in antibiotic administration increased the in-hospital mortality (IHM) (OR = 1.041, 95 % CI: 1.021-1.062), and ministration of antibiotics after 1 h increased the IHM (OR = 1.205, 95 % CI: 1.123-1.293). There was no significant change in the 28-day mortality (OR = 1.297, 95 % CI: 0.882-1.906), 90-day mortality (OR = 1.172, 95 % CI: 0.846-1.622), and 1-year mortality (OR = 0.986, 95 % CI: 0.422-2.303). Administration of antibiotics within 3 h may reduce the IHM (OR = 1.297, 95 % CI: 1.011-1.664, p = 0.041), while administration of antibiotics within 6 h showed no significant association with the IHM. CONCLUSION: The administration of antibiotics beyond 1 h after emergency triage or disease identification is strongly associated with an increased IHM in patients with sepsis or septic shock, and each hour of delay in antibiotic administration may be associated with an increase in the IHM. Furthermore, the use of antibiotics identification beyond 3 h after emergency triage / sepsis or septic shock may also increase the IHM.

ABSTRACT

The high proportion of males in C. semilaevis hinders their industrial development. The genetic ZW individual can become a pseudomale by sex reversal. And the pseudomale can produce Z-sperm (with epigenetic information to cause sex reversal) while W-sperm is absent, which leads to an even higher male proportion in offspring. Recently, with the development of transcriptomic technologies, research on spermatogenesis in C. semilaevis has been focused on the ubiquitination pathway. In this study, we analyzed the function of the ubiquitin ligase rnf34 gene on the Z chromosome. A qPCR experiment showed that its expression level in the gonad was the highest among different tissues. In the ovary, the expression gradually increased with development from 40 days post-hatching (dph) to 1.5 years post-hatching (yph). In the testis, rnf34 showed increased expression from 40 dph to 6 months post-hatching (mpf) and stabilized up until 1.5 ypf. In situ hybridization showed that the mRNA of rnf34 was mainly distributed in the germ cells of the testis and the ovary. In vivo siRNA-mediated knockdown of the rnf34 gene in male fish affected the expression of a series of genes related to sex differentiation and spermatogenesis. These results provide genetic data on the molecular mechanisms of gonadal development and spermatogenesis in C. semilaevis.

BACKGROUND: Numerous studies have focused on reducing patient absences and effectively scheduling exams. However, very few studies have analyzed the factors influencing examination time and predicted examination time. OBJECTIVES: To investigate the factors affecting ultrasound examination visit length and provide a reference for interventions to optimize ultrasound appointments. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted at a fertility clinic in China. Ultrasound examination time and clinical characteristics were obtained from the electronic records. Univariate and multivariate analyses used 33,432 patients who attended our clinic center between August 1 and October 30, 2018. A quantile regression model was constructed to examine associations between ultrasound examination time and statistically significant variables in the univariate analysis. RESULTS: Of the 33,432 patients included in this study, 29,085 (87%) were female and 4,347 (13%) were male. Their mean examination time was 6 ± 3 minutes. The doctor's title and gender, equipment, and patient's age, examination site, gender, and origin were all statistically significant. Physical examination and outpatient clinic patients had shorter examination times than inpatients. Female physicians had longer examination times than male physicians. Examination time was positively correlated with thyroid, breast, liver, gallbladder, spleen, pancreas, kidney, heart, vascular, adrenal, gynecological, early pregnancy, nuchal translucency, prostate, scrotum, and mid-to-late pregnancy fetal sites. Moreover, NT and mid-to-late pregnancy fetal sites showed a clear and continuous positive trend with increasing examination time. CONCLUSION: The length of the ultrasound examination was correlated with the examination site, physician title, physician gender, patient age, patient gender, patient origin, and instrumentation. The reliability of inspection time predicted by variables such as the physicians' title, sex, sites examined, and the number of sites examined was higher when they were longer.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: There is currently no curative treatment for childhood Crohn's disease (CD). This meta-analysis aimed to validate the efficacy and safety of adalimumab (ADA) in pediatric patients with CD. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We searched all relevant studies in the PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases. The primary outcomes were induction (≤ 12 weeks) and maintenance (up to 48 weeks) of remission and response. Secondary outcomes were severe adverse events and opportunistic infections to ADA. The Cochrane bias assessment tool was used to assess the risk of bias in randomized controlled trials. The methodological quality of the single-arm studies was assessed using the methodological index for non-randomized studies tool. RESULTS: Ten clinical trials involving a total of 885 patients were included. Results indicated that 59% (95% confidence interval [CI] 39-80%) of the subjects treated with ADA achieved induction of remission, and 60% (95% CI 35-86%) of the subjects treated with ADA achieved induction of response, 57% (95% CI 44-70%) achieved maintenance of remission, and 63% (95% CI 26-69%) achieved maintenance of response. CONCLUSION: Current evidence indicates that ADA is effective in children and adolescents with CD and that adverse events vary but are usually not severe. ABSTRACT

Sepsis is a syndrome of dysregulated host response caused by infection, which leads to life-threatening organ dysfunction. It is a familiar reason of death in critically ill patients. Liver injury frequently occurs in septic patients, yet the development of targeted and effective treatment strategies remains a pressing challenge. Macrophages are essential parts of immunity system. M1 macrophages drive inflammation, whereas M2 macrophages possess anti-inflammatory properties and contribute to tissue repair processes. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), known for their remarkable attributes including homing capabilities, immunomodulation, anti-inflammatory effects, and tissue regeneration potential, hold promise in enhancing the prognosis of sepsis-induced liver injury by harmonizing the delicate balance of M1/M2 macrophage polarization. This review discusses the mechanisms by which MSCs regulate macrophage polarization, alongside the signaling pathways involved, providing an idea for innovative directions in the treatment of sepsis-induced liver injury.

Sexual size dimorphism (SSD) characterized by different body size between females and males have been reported in various animals. Gonadectomy experiments have implied important regulatory roles of the gonad in SSD. Among multiple factors from the gonad, TGF-ß superfamily (especially BMP/GDF family) attracted our interest due to its pleiotropy in growth and reproduction regulations. Thus, whether BMP/GDF family members serve as crucial regulators for SSD was studied in a typically female-biased SSD flatfish named Chinese tongue sole (Cynoglossus semilaevis). Firstly, a total of 26 BMP/GDF family members were identified. The PPI network analysis showed that they may interact with ACVR2a, ACVR2b, ACVR1, BMPR2, SMAD3, BMPR1a, and other proteins. Subsequently, DAP-seq was employed to reveal the binding sites for yin yang 1 (yy1), a transcription factor involved in gonad function and cell growth partly by regulating TGF-ß superfamily. The results revealed that two yy1 homologues yy1a and yy1b in C. semilaevis could regulate Hippo signaling pathway, mTOR signaling pathway, and AMPK signaling pathway. Moreover, BMP/GDF family genes including bmp2, bmp4, bmp5, gdf6a, and gdf6b were important components of Hippo pathway. In future, the crosstalk among yy1a, yy1b, and TGF-ß family would provide more insight into sexual size dimorphism in C. semilaevis.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To obtain quantitative and comprehensive results of the changes in comprehensive ER indicators from ovulation day to transplantation day by ultrasonography during the natural frozen-thawed embryo transfer cycle (FET). Methods: This is a prospective analysis of 230 infertile women undergoing their first FET cycles from April 2019 to July 2021. To evaluate ER, ultrasound scans were performed on the days of ovulation and embryo transfer for all included patients. All included patients were divided into a pregnancy group and a nonpregnancy group according to whether clinical pregnancy was achieved. The ER changes from ovulation day to transplantation day in the overall study population (n=230), pregnancy group (n=158) and nonpregnancy group (n=72) were analyzed. Results: In the overall population, type C was predominant on ovulation day, but type B was the most common on transplantation day (P<0.001). From ovulation day to transplantation day, endometrial thickness was significantly increased (11.26 ± 2.14 vs. 11.89 ± 2.08 mm, P<0.001), but endometrial volume (4.26 ± 1.75 vs. 4.03 ± 1.62 ml, P<0.001), endometrial VI (1.34 ± 1.64 vs. 0.95 ± 1.99, P<0.001), VFI (0.47 ± 0.72 vs. 0.40 ± 1.03, P<0.001), subendometrial VI (5.04 ± 3.89 vs. 3.29 ± 2.92, P<0.001), FI (34.07 ± 4.61 vs. 33.41 ± 5.30, p=0.004), VFI (2.07 ± 2.65 vs. 1.19 ± 1.19, P<0.001) and frequency of endometrial peristalsis (2.90 ± 1.44 vs. 1.40 ± 1.41, P<0.001) were significantly decreased. In the pregnancy group, the changes in all ultrasound parameters were in the same direction as those in the overall population. In the nonpregnancy group, except for endometrial volume and VI, which showed no difference, other ultrasound parameters showed the same direction of change as those in the overall population. No significant difference was found in the pregnancy probability among the different absolute change groups. Conclusion: During a natural cycle, the morphology of the endometrium changes mostly from type C to type B, the endometrial thickness increases, and the volume decreases. The blood supply of the endometrium, the subendometrial 5 mm and the frequency of peristalsis decrease from ovulation day to transplantation day. Compared with the nonpregnancy group, the pregnancy group tended to have more obvious decreases in endometrial volume and blood flow perfusion. However, these endometrial changes do not mean that pregnancy is bound to occur. endometrial receptivity, in vitro fertilization, frozen-thawed embryo transfer, natural cycle, ultrasound evaluation, ovulation day, transplantation day.

ABSTRACT

Flat peach, a predominant fruit consumed in China, is highly susceptible to softening and perishable. The impact of 1-methylcycloproene (1-MCP) fumigation combined with ε-poly-L-lysine (ε-PL) on softening and postharvest reactive oxygen species (ROS) and phenylpropanoid pathway metabolisms in peaches and its relationship to disease resistance were investigated. Findings revealed that a combination of 1 µL L-1 1-MCP and 300 mg L-1 ε-PL effectively suppressed the activity of cell-wall-degrading enzymes and the disassembly of cell wall structure, thus maintaining higher firmness and lower decay incidence. Compared to the control group, the synergistic approach bolstered enzymatic responses linked to disease resistance and ROS-scavenge system, consistently preserving total phenolics, flavonoids, ascorbic acid, and glutathione levels. Concurrently, the accumulation of hydrogen peroxide and malondialdehyde was significantly diminished post-treatment. These results show that there is good synergistic effect between 1-MCP and ε-PL, which could effectively maintain the quality of flat peach fruit by modulating cell wall metabolism and enhancing the resistance.

ABSTRACT

Objective: Contrast-associated acute kidney injury (CA-AKI) is a critical complication when applying contrast medium, and the risk factors of CA-AKI have not been fully clarified. This study aimed to explore the relationships of CA-AKI with erythrocyte parameters, anemia conditions, and sex differences in patients after coronary angiography (CAG). Methods: In this retrospective study, 4,269 patients who underwent CAG were enrolled. CA-AKI was defined as an increase in plasma creatinine of at least 0.5 mg/dl (44 µmol/L) or 25% within 72 h after exposure to the contrast medium. Three erythrocyte parameters, including hemoglobin, hematocrit, and red blood cell (RBC) count, were collected on admission. Logistic regression analyses were used to examine the associations of sex differences and erythrocyte parameters with CA-AKI in the overall population, restricted cubic splines to visualize these associations flexibly. Moreover, stratified and sensitivity analyses were conducted to assess the robustness of the findings. Results: Overall, the mean (± standard deviations) age of patients was 67.05 ± 10.77 years, and 759 subjects (17.8%) developed CA-AKI. The results showed L-shaped relationships between erythrocyte parameters and CA-AKI incidence in each model (all P < 0.001). The incidence of CA-AKI was positively associated with the severity of anemia, while it showed no significant differences among the types of anemia. Moreover, female patients undergoing CAG had a higher risk of CA-AKI than male patients. Mediation analysis verified that erythrocyte parameters exerted an indirect effect on the sex differences of CA-AKI incidences. Conclusion: In conclusion, females, perioperative anemia conditions, and lower erythrocyte parameters (hemoglobin, hematocrit, and RBC count) were verified as risk factors of CA-AKI in patients undergoing CAG. Furthermore, lower erythrocyte parameters among females exerted indirect effects on the sex differences in CA-AKI incidence.

ABSTRACT

A retrospective study was conducted to investigate a convenient simple scoring system for the prediction of early pregnancy loss (EPL) based on simple demographics. A total of 13,977 women undergoing transvaginal ultrasound scans on Days 27-29 after in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET) from June 2016 and December 2017 were included. The first trimester pregnancy outcome was recorded at 12 weeks of gestation. The areas under the curve of this scoring system were 0.884 (95% confidence interval (CI) 0.870-0.899) and 0.890 (95% CI 0.878-0.903) in the training set and test set, respectively. The score totals ranged from -8 to 14 points. A score of 5 points, which offered the highest predictive accuracy (94.01%) and corresponded to a 30% miscarriage risk, was chosen as the cutoff value, with a sensitivity of 62.84%, specificity of 98.79%, positive predictive value (PPV) of 88.87% and negative predictive value (NPV) of 94.54% for the prediction of EPL in the training set. In the test set, a score of 5 points had a sensitivity of 64.69%, specificity of 98.78%, PPV of 89.87% and NPV of 93.62%, and 93.91% of the cases were correctly predicted. Therefore, the simple scoring system using conventionally collected data can be conveniently used to predict EPL after ET. However, considering the limitations, its predictive value needs to be further verified in future clinical practice.
