ABSTRACT

Background: The role of dyslipidemia in pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PanNENs) is unclear. The aim of this study is to analyze the characteristics of serum lipid spectrum in PanNENs, and the effect of the variation in lipid profile on the development of PanNENs clinicopathological features and prognosis. Methods: All PanNENs patients between November 2012 and September 2020 in the authors' research center were identified from patient medical records and databases. A total of 185 with PanNENs patients were ultimately included in this study, including 100 nonfunctional PanNENs and 85 insulinomas. Clinicopathologic features, serum lipid level and overall survival results were retrospectively analyzed using statistical methods. Results: In 185 PanNENs, 95 (51.4%) patients appear to have dyslipidemia. Patients with insulinoma had a lower proportion of abnormal HDL than those with nonfunctional PanNENs (10.6% vs 23%, P=0.026). The mean serum HDL levels of insulinomas were 0.131 mmol/L higher than the NF-PanNENs (1.306 ± 0.324 vs 1.175 ± 0.315, P=0.006). In multivariate logistic analysis, high levels of HDL are negatively correlated to tumor size (OR 0.233, 95% CI: 0.069-0.790, P=0.019), but HDL was not associated with pathological grade or metastasis. And a correlation has been found between hypercholesterolemia and the original location of the tumor (OR:0.224, 95%CI: 0.066-0.753, P =0.016). In addition, the outcome of the survival analysis revealed that dyslipidemia did not influence the prognosis of PanNENs patients (P>0.05). Conclusions: HDL was negatively correlated with the tumor size of PanNENs. The serum HDL level of insulinoma patients is higher than nonfunctional PanNENs.

ABSTRACT

Bone remolding involves the formation of new bone by osteoblasts and the absorption of old bones by osteoclasts. Due to the vital role of osteoblasts and osteoclasts during bone regeneration, it might be feasible to promote osseointegration around the titanium implants by stimulating osteoblasts and inhibiting osteoclasts by modifying the surfaces of the implants. Lithium is used in the treatment of psychiatric patients, and it may be associated with osteogenesis. In this study, lithium was incorporated with sandblasted, large-grit and acid-etched titanium implants via a hydrothermal treatment. In vitro, the nano-scale surface enhanced the adhesion and proliferation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs). Moreover, the SLA-Li surface displayed a negative effect on the process of osteoclastogenesis. Further mechanism analysis indicated that the canonical Wnt/ß-catenin signaling pathway was activated according to the results of RT-PCR and western blotting. More importantly, the RANKL/OPG signaling axis was also involved in these effects on the SLA-Li surface. The experiments in vivo proved that the SLA-Li surface could induce the bone formation and osseointegration during the early osseointegration after the dental implant surgery. These results suggested that bone homeostasis could be manipulated by an SLA-Li surface, which implied that this new surface might serve as a promising material for clinical application in the future.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical significance of combined detection of TCT and HR-HPV-HC2 assay in the screening and recurrence prediction of CIN. METHODS: A total of 725 patients with suspected cervical abnormalities received TCT plus HR-HPV-HC2 detection and histopathological examinations.203 CINII-III patients received TCT and HC2 detection and histopathological examinations after treated with loop electrosurgical excision procedure or cold knife conization operation. The results of pathological examinations were gold standard. The sensitivity and specificity of TCT, HR-HPV-HC2 and TCT plus HR-HPV-HC2 were analyzed. RESULTS: The missed diagnosis and misdiagnosis rate of TCT and HC2 alone were 19.23%, 12.50% and 48.15%, 74.07% and sensitivity and specificity 90.02%, 97.01% and 51.85%, 17.76% respectively. The sensitivity, missed diagnosis rate and negative predictive value were 98.25%, 1.75% and 89.70% when TCT or HR-HPV-HC2 met the CIN diagnostic criteria. The specificity and positive predictive value were 58.95% and 72.80% when TCT and HR-HPV-HC2 met the CIN diagnostic criteria. The specificity of TCT or HR-HPV-HC2 alone was 80% for the prediction of recurrence at Month 6 postoperation. The specificity of TCT plus HR-HPV-HC2 was 98.27% for the prediction of recurrence at Month 3 postoperation and the negative predictive value was 98.75% at Month 6 postoperation. The sensitivity of TCT or HR-HPV-HC2 was 97.22% for the prediction of recurrence at Month 3/6. And the negative predictive value was 99.17% at Month 6 postoperation. CONCLUSION: The combined detection of TCT and HR-HPV-HC2 may improve the sensitivity and specificity of CIN and the predication of its postoperative recurrence.

ABSTRACT

Sciaenidae is one of the largest fish families, but the phylogeny and taxonomy of these fishes are still being disputed. Furthermore, the taxonomic status of the Chinese bahaba (Bahaba taipingensis), which is an endemic species to China, had never been studied through molecular method. In this study, phylogenetic relationships among sciaenid species were reconstructed using DNA sequence data from the mitochondrial cytochrome b (cyt b) gene and the 16S ribosomal RNA (16S rRNA) gene through Bayesian inference (BI) analyses. The phylogenetic trees indicated that the Chinese bahaba closely related to Collichthys and Pseudosciaena. Previous studies (Meng et al. 2004. Prog Nat Sci 14(5):514-521, [in Chinese]) showed that the subfamily Pseudosciaeninae represented the latest evolutionary sort, which was more suitable with the current environment. Based on our 16S rRNA, the Chinese bahaba showed close relationship with Pseudosciaena, thus the divergence of the Chinese bahaba maybe also very late within the family Sciaenidae. It was probably that the oceanographic or ecological discontinuities of these species vary considerably causing particularly strong breaks. Furthermore, combined with previous studies, we suggested that there was only one genus, Otolithes, within the subfamily Otolithinae. Nevertheless, the taxonomic status of the Chinese bahaba and the phylogeny of the whole family were not completely solved. Additional samples of more species are required to develop a clearer picture of the evolutionary history of Sciaenidae.
