ABSTRACT

This study utilized comprehensive graphical, descriptive and econometric methods to provide empirical answers to the nexus between government health expenditures and neonatal mortality in China. Secondary data from 2000 to 2021 was extracted from the World Development Indicators, after which it was analyzed empirically with the following results; in the past two decades, the incidence of neonatal death has reduced by 85%. Meanwhile, domestic general government health expenditure per capita ranged between $326.2 and $9.4 during the period with a mean value of $138. Average neonatal mortality rate recorded an approximately 10 deaths per 1000 live births, while government health expenditures and neonatal mortality showed a significant negative relationship in China. Therefore, this study confirms that China has been able to meet the SDG 3 with evidence indicating that this may be due to increased government health expenditure.

ABSTRACT

The one-dimensional geometry of silicon nanowire helps to overcome the rigid and brittle nature of bulk silicon and enables it to withstand substantial bending stresses. This provides exciting opportunities for the development of flexible electronics. The bending strain introduces atomic displacement in the lattice structure, which inherently has a significant impact on the thermal conductivity. The strain-dependent thermal conductivity of silicon nanowire is crucial to the thermal management and performance of flexible electronic devices. However, in situ thermal conductivity measurement of bending silicon nanowires remains challenging and unreported due to the varying thermal contact resistances between the sample and sensor/heat sink. In this study, the Raman spectroscopy-assisted steady state thermal conductivity measurement method is coupled with a micromanipulation system to successively monitor the thermal conductivity variation of silicon nanowires during the bending process. The result shows that the thermal conductivity of silicon nanowires steeply decreases 55-78% owing to the strain-induced structural deformation during bending. Furthermore, the proposed in situ thermal conductivity measurement method can also be extended to other nanomaterials.

ABSTRACT

Herein, we described the multidisciplinary treatment of a mixed dentition patient with impacted maxillary right central incisor and adjacent compound odontoma. In contrast to conventional treatment procedures, orthodontic traction was first performed for the affected tooth in this case, followed by resection of the odontoma. The odontoma did not shift after eruption of the incisor and was safely removed after alignment of the impacted tooth. No root resorption, gingival recession or bone defect occurred in this case. These results demonstrated that the orthodontic force can break the connection between the impacted tooth and the odontoma. The increased distance between the impacted tooth and odontoma may facilitate removal of the odontoma. Adhesion between the soft tissue capsule of odontoma and the dental follicle, rather than blocking the tooth, may play a role in tooth impaction.

ABSTRACT

Bloomfield has pointed out that the kink structure occurs for sharp bending during DNA condensation process, until now, which has not been proved by experiments. Using UV Spectrophotometer, the effects of fluoride and chlorine on the polyamine-DNA condensation system can be detected. Fluoride and chlorine both belong to the halogen family, but their effects on spermine-DNA condensation system are totally different. Fluoride ions make blue-shift and hyperchromicity appear in the spermine-DNA condensation system, but chlorine ions only make insignificant hyperchromicity happen in this system. Both fluoride ions and chlorine ions only make insignificant hyperchromicity happen in spermidine-DNA condensation system. Based on the distinguished character of fluoride, a fluoride-sensor for "kink" structure in DNA condensation was developed and the second kind of "kink" structure only appear in the spermine-DNA condensation system.

ABSTRACT

WW domain-containing oxidoreductase (WWOX) is a novel tumor suppressor gene, and its expression is reduced in various cancers, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). WWOX has been reported to be downregulated in HCC cell lines as well as in primary HCC tissues. It has been suggested that WWOX is implicated in Wnt/ß-catenin pathway, which is frequently affected in HCC. The aim of this study was to evaluate the expression of WWOX, ß-catenin and T-cell factor 4 (TCF4) in HCC. Our result showed that downregulation of WWOX in HCC was correlated with cytoplasmic accumulation of ß-catenin. In addition, strong nuclear TCF4 expression was associated with tumor grade and stage in HCC. In conclusion, our result implied that downregulation of WWOX might lead to accumulation of cytoplasmic ß-catenin and the subsequent activation of Wnt/ß-catenin signaling pathway in HCC.
