ABSTRACT

Objective@#To understand the symptoms of depression and anxiety among rural returning adolescents and to analyze their association with physical activity related factors, so as to provide reference for interventions targeting depression and anxiety symtoms in the population.@*Methods@#From April to June 2020, 3 495 middle school students were selected from 6 counties and districts of Shangrao City by random cluster stratified sampling sampling. The Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) were used to evaluate the depressive and anxiety symptoms among middle school students. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire was used to assess their physical activity levels during the past week. Chi square test and Logistic regression analysis were used to determine the strength of the association between depression and anxiety symptoms and physical activity related factors in returning and non returning adolescents as well as the overall population.@*Results@#Univariate analysis showed significant differences in the prevalence of depressive and anxiety symptoms between rural returning and non returning adolescents and the overall population in terms of "type of school" "family economic situation" "parental occupation" "number of sports classes per week" and "level of physical activity per week" ( χ 2=78.21, 16.56, 135.44, 107.75, 7.10, 8.62; 97.94, 24.26 , 124.07, 90.36, 9.60, 8.34, P <0.05). Multivariate regression analysis showed a correlation between the occurrence of depression and the number of sports classes per week for rural returning and non returning adolescents and the overall population (number of sports classes per week for non returning was 2 times, OR=1.22, 95%CI =1.01-1.49; returning adolescents for 1 time, OR=1.85, 95%CI =1.06-3.23; the overall population for 1 time, OR=1.34, 95%CI =1.01-1.77 and 2 times, OR=1.20, 95%CI =1.01-1.43, P <0.05). There was a correlation between anxiety symptoms and the number of sports classes per week for returning adolescents (number of sports classes per week for returning adolescents was 1 time, OR=2.10, 95%CI=1.21-3.63, P < 0.05 ).@*Conclusion@#A low frequency of weekly sports classes may be a risk factor for depressive or anxiety symptoms in rural and returning adolescents. Rural primary and secondary schools should appropriately increase the number of physical education courses or arrange sports extended classes to promote the development of adolescent mental health.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: This study was aimed to observe the effects of skull defects on the brain in rats and further to investigate its underlying pathophysiological. Three different sizes of skull were removed in rats to produce models of skull defect, and then the behavioral changes were detected using a grip strength meter and neurobehavioral severity scale scores. The authors further examined the levels of cell apoptosis and autophagy, the cerebral blood flow with immunoblotting, and immunofluorescence micro-ultrasound system, respectively. The authors found that the sensory function but not the grip was impaired on the 6th day after a 5 × 10 mm defect while the motor function was on the 2nd day. In addition, the authors found an increment in B-cell lymphoma-2/BCL2-Associated X (Bcl2/Bax) and LC3 II/I expression, a maker of apoptosis and autophagy, respectively, in the defective hemisphere especially at the edge of the defective area. Importantly, the blood flow of internal carotid artery began to decline at 2 hours, and reached minimum on the 4th day, but began to recover on the 6th day in the hemi-defect group. In conclusion, a larger skull defect could impair the cognitive function but not the motor function and its underlying pathophysiology were mainly related to a decrease in cerebral flow.

ABSTRACT

The dense extracellular matrix (ECM) of the tumor severely limits the deep penetration of nanomedicine and weakens its anti-tumor effect. Based on this, the yeast vesicle biomimetic nanomedicine with active deep penetration ability of tumor tissue was designed and developed for enhanced tumor therapy. Results of characterization showed that the yeast cell vesicles (YCV) displayed a spherical morphology with diameter of around 100 nm and was well dispersed. Then the chemotherapeutic drug doxorubicin (DOX) was selected as a model drug, and DOX was loaded into YCV to obtain YCV/DOX through electrostatic interaction, the encapsulation efficiencies of DOX were calculated as 82.5%. The drug release profile of YCV/DOX implied that DOX release showed a manner of pH-dependent, it may be that pH has affected the electrostatic effect of YCV and DOX. Compared with liposomes (Lipo), in vitro cell experiments showed that YCV from natural sources had stronger permeability in three-dimensional multicellular spheres. It is speculated that the mechanism may be good deformation capacity of YCV. A 4T1 xenograft tumor model was established to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of YCV/DOX. The results suggested that YCV/DOX has stronger tumor tissue penetration ability and could effectively inhibit the tumor growth. All animal experiments were performed in line with national regulations and approved by the Animal Experiments Ethical Committee of Zhengzhou University. This study brings new ideas for the development of biomimetic nanomedicine to overcome the ECM of solid tumors.

ABSTRACT

Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) is a relatively new technique that can measure the hemoglobin changes in brain tissue. Depending on the absorption for different wavelength, relative changes in the concentration of hemoglobin in brain can be measured, obtaining the hemodynamic characteristics of brain to understand the brain functional state in real-time. Compared with other neuroimaging techniques, it has some advantages and has been used in psychiatry rapidly. Schizophrenia is one of the most common mental disorders, researches on its pathogenesis have focused on collection of structural and functional alteration in brain. Existing techniques can provide only indirect evidence, while fNIRS can perform brain function monitoring in real-time. A number of studies have suggested that fNIRS signal could be used as a biomarker for schizophrenia identification and adjuvant diagnosis. This paper reviewed the research progress in the application of fNIRS in schizophrenia.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the detection rate accuracy of Double-balloon Enteroscopy (DBE) after Capsule Endoscopy (CE) in patients with suspected small bowel diseases. METHODOLOGY: From January 2009 to March 2012, sixty-two patients with obscure small bowel diseases who underwent CE followed by DBE were included in this study. Introduction of the endoscope by DBE was either orally or anally according to CE. RESULTS: Sixty-two patients are reported. The overall detection rate of small bowel diseases using CE was 70.9% (44/62). Sixty-eight DBE procedures following capsule endoscopy were carried out, There was no significant difference (χ(2)=0.6739, P>0.05) of Positive findings between CE and CE +DBE. Furthermore, the detection rate of small bowel diseases in patients with obscure small intestinal bleeding using CE +DBE (90.9%, 30/33) was superior to that of CE (78.8%, 26/33); χ(2)=1.8857, P>0.05. CONCLUSIONS: Capsule Endoscopy (CE) can cover the whole GI tract and provide the selection of the route of Double-balloon enteroscopy (DBE). DBE can also serve as a good complementary approach after an initial imaging using CE. It can verify the findings of CE and provide therapeutic intervention. Using of CE followed by DBE is effective in the diagnosis and management of patients with obscure small bowel diseases.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: This study compared the therapeutic benefits and complication rates of small endoscopic sphincterotomy plus large-balloon dilation (ESLBD) with those of endoscopic sphincterotomy (EST) alone for large bile duct stones. METHODS: We compared prospectively ESLBD group (n=63) with conventional EST group (n=69) for the treatment of large bile duct stones (≥15mm). Mechanical lithotripsy was performed when the stone could not be removed using a normal basket. We compared the rates of stone removal, frequency of mechanical lithotripsy use, procedure-related complications, and recurrent stones. RESULTS: A total of 132 patients were reviewed in the study. The mean age of the patients was 67.9 years. The two groups showed significant differences in complete stone removal during the first session (80.9 vs. 60.8%; P = 0.046), the use of mechanical lithotripsy (7.94 vs. 24.6%; P = 0.041), and less duration of admission (P =0.045). After ERCP, there were some instances of oozing in both groups, All patients recovered completely, 14 patients had recurrent common bile duct stones among the follow-up duration. CONCLUSION: The ESLBD technique seems to be a feasible and safe alternative technique for conventional EST and EBD and has no more Post-ERCP complications.

ABSTRACT

Four H7N3 avian influenza viruses (AIVs) were isolated from domestic ducks in live-poultry markets in Zhejiang Province, Eastern China, in 2011. All viruses were characterized by whole-genome sequencing with subsequent phylogenetic analysis and genetic comparison. Phylogenetic analysis of all eight viral genes showed that the viruses clustered in the Eurasian lineage of influenza viruses. The hemagglutinin cleavage site of all viruses indicated that the four strains were low-pathogenic avian influenza viruses.

ABSTRACT

This study describes the characterization of seven H5N1 avian influenza viruses from domestic ducks in Eastern China in 2011. Phylogenetic analysis showed these viruses were closely related to an H5N1 virus circulating in wild birds in Hong Kong. Some characteristics of these viruses were similar to those of an H5N1 strain that circulated in China and Vietnam (2003-2004). The virulence of three isolates was examined in chickens and mice, and they were found to be highly pathogenic in chickens but showed low pathogenicity in mice. These results suggest that continued H5N1 surveillance in poultry should be used as an early warning system for avian influenza outbreaks.

ABSTRACT

One new sesquiterpene was isolated from the fermentation broth of Streptomyces sp. and the structure was elucidated by spectral analysis as caryolane-1, 6beta-diol (1). An intermediate 1alpha, 6beta, 11-eudesmanetriol (2) in the biosynthesis of geosmin was also found in this strain which proved sequence for the reactions, especially bicyclization preceding dealkylation.

ABSTRACT

The undifferentiated form of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is the most common malignant head and neck cancer in South China, especially in Cantonese populations. However, few NPC cell lines have been established from the patients in this region. In this study, we established a new NPC cell line, termed SUNE2, from a Cantonese patient with undifferentiated NPC. This cell line had extremely low concentrations of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) DNA in long-term culture and expressed low levels of latent membrane protein 1 (LMP1), latent membrane protein 2A (LMP2A), BamH1-A right frame 1 (BARF1), EBV-encoded RNA-1 (EBER1), and EBV-encoded RNA-2 (EBER2) in early passages. SUNE2 cells also showed much stronger transforming ability than 5-8F cells in colony formation assays and anchorage-independent growth assays in soft agar, and they only need 2 weeks to form tumors in nude mice. In summary, the SUNE2 cell line is a new in vitro model that can be used for further research on the mechanisms underlying the occurrence and development of NPC.

ABSTRACT

425 halophilic bacteria strains were isolated by using six different media from thirty salt-soil samples collected from Heijing ancient salt mine,Yunnan. By the growth on NaCl grandient concentration and other screening methods,79 strains of extremely halophilic microorganisms were chosen for further research. Based on colonies color, shape and size,15 stains were selected to be sequenced. The sequencing results revealed that 11 of them were haloarchaea. According to the phylogenetic analysis, they belong to four genera of the family Halobacteriaceae. The blast results showed that the similarities of six sequences were higher than 97 % with the validly described species of the following four genera: Halorubrum,Natronococcus,Natrialba,Halalkalicoccus. The similarities of other five sequences with any validly described species were less than 97 %,therefore, the taxonomic positions of the following five strains YIM-ARC 0032,YIM-ARC 0036,YIM-ARC 0037,and YIM-ARC 0050 could be determined according to further polyphasic taxonomy data. The results indicated that there was a considerable diversity of haloarcheaea in salt-mine environment of Heijing ancient salt mine,Yunnan and it was worth continuing to research on this area.

ABSTRACT

Bacterial biodiversities of microbial mat and sediments, which were sampled from thermal springs of Tengchong Rehai in Yunnan, were preliminarily studied with PCR-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (PCR-DGGE). Directly extracted total DNA from environmental samples amplified by PCR with two sets of bacteria-specific primers. The PCR products, which include the V 8 and V 9 high-variable regions respectively, were analyzed by using DGGE. The DGGE profiles not only indicated the existence of higher levels of bacterial diversity, but also showed that the microbial mat and sediments have different dominant bacteria. Furthermore, the bacterial PCR-DGGE displayed clear profiles of bacterial structure selected by the key abiotic factors of the extreme environments, such as temperature and concentration of oxygen.

ABSTRACT

pH, affects of different alkaline materials KOH, K 2CO 3, NaOH, Na 2CO 3 on the growth, and NaCl, KCl tolerance of 29 isolates from the saline and alkaline soils in Xinjiang and Qinghai Provinces of China and 1 type strain were studied. Results showed that only a few alkaliphilic actinomycetes were Na +-obligately dependent, and K +-sensitive. Some alkaliphilic actinomycetes were CO 3 2- -sensitive, and NaCl, KCl could inhibit their growth. 4 kinds of alkaline materials had no affect on growth of alkaliphilic Nocardiopsis, and these strains showed high tolerance to NaCl, KCl. So it was presumed that only K + and CO 3 2- obligately dependent alkaliphilic Actinomycetes maybe exist in alkaline environments.

ABSTRACT

A remarkabale inhibitory activity was exhibited by the aqueous extract from Rhizoma smilacisglabrae(RSG) against both picryl chloride(PC)- induced contact dermatitis and sheep red bloodcells (SRBC)- induced footpad reaction. The effect of RSG was displayed more distinctlywheng given after than before the 2nd antigen challenge.RSG also showed a marked anti-in-flammatory activity against xylene- induced ear and egg whiteinduced footpad edema.Addi-tionally,RSG did not show a potable influence on IgM- and IgG-PFC counts against SRBC inmice. An increase but not decrease in serum hemolysin level, however, was observed in both groupsof RSG,peralleled with the finding that hemolytic plaques in PFC test were obviously biggerthan those in control. These results suggest that RSG has a selective activity to suppress the cellularimmune response without inhibiting the humoral immune response. The suppression to cellular im-munity by RSG may be presented mainly through affecting the inflammatory process after lym-phokine release.
