ABSTRACT

Reactive radicals are crucial for activating inert and low-polarity C(sp3)-H bonds for the fabrication of high value-added products. Herein, novel single-crystal oxygen-rich bismuth oxybromide nanosheets (Bi4O5Br2 SCNs) with more than 85 % {10-1} facets exposure and oxygen defects were synthesized via a facile solvothermal route. The Bi4O5Br2 SCNs demonstrated excellent photocatalytic performance in the selective oxidation of toluene under blue light. The yield of benzaldehyde was 1876.66 µmol g-1 h-1, with a selectivity of approximately 90 %. Compared to that of polycrystalline Bi4O5Br2 nanosheets (Bi4O5Br2 PCNs), the activity of Bi4O5Br2 SCNs exhibit a 21-fold increase. Experimental studies and density functional theory (DFT) calculations have demonstrated that the defect Bi4O5Br2 (10-1) facets exhibits exceptional adsorption properties for O2 molecules. In addition, the single-crystal structure in the presence of surface defects significantly increases the separation and transport of photogenerated carriers, resulting in the effective activation of adsorbed O2 into superoxide radicals (•O2-). Subsequently, the positively charged phenylmethyl H is readily linked to the negatively charged superoxide radical anion, thereby activating the CH bond. This study offers a fresh perspective and valuable insights into the development of efficient molecular oxygen-activated photocatalysts and their application in the selective catalytic conversion of aromatic C(sp3)-H bonds.

ABSTRACT

Low-temperature germination (LTG) is an important agronomic trait for rice (Oryza sativa). Japonica rice generally has greater capacity for germination at low temperatures than the indica subpopulation. However, the genetic basis and molecular mechanisms underlying this complex trait are poorly understood. Here, we report that OsUBC12, encoding an E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme, increases low-temperature germinability in japonica, owing to a transposon insertion in its promoter enhancing its expression. Natural variation analysis reveals that transposon insertion in the OsUBC12 promoter mainly occurs in the japonica lineage. The variation detected in eight representative two-line male sterile lines suggests the existence of this allele introgression by indica-japonica hybridization breeding, and varieties carrying the japonica OsUBC12 locus (transposon insertion) have higher low-temperature germinability than varieties without the locus. Further molecular analysis shows that OsUBC12 negatively regulate ABA signaling. OsUBC12-regulated seed germination and ABA signaling mainly depend on a conserved active site required for ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme activity. Furthermore, OsUBC12 directly associates with rice SUCROSE NON-FERMENTING 1-RELATED PROTEIN KINASE 1.1 (OsSnRK1.1), promoting its degradation. OsSnRK1.1 inhibits LTG by enhancing ABA signaling and acts downstream of OsUBC12. These findings shed light on the underlying mechanisms of UBC12 regulating LTG and provide genetic reference points for improving LTG in indica rice.

ABSTRACT

AIM: To assess marginal bone level change (MBLc), clinical outcomes for soft tissue, and survival rates for immediately restored implants with simultaneous guided bone regeneration (GBR). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Electronic and manual searches were conducted in PubMed/MEDLINE, EMBASE, and CENTRAL for studies that investigated immediately restored implants in simultaneously grafted sites with a mean follow-up of over 12 months. MBLc was the primary outcome. Soft tissue clinical parameters and implant survival rate (ISR) were the secondary outcomes. RESULTS: Twenty-five studies (5 randomized controlled trials, 6 prospective studies, 2 retrospective studies, and 12 case series) were included, from which 692 immediately restored implants were analyzed. For studies that investigated bone grafts in the gap between the implant and the peripheral bone wall, the weighted mean MBLc was -0.73 ± 1.52 mm (range: -1.50 to 0.26 mm) for 475 implants. Pink esthetic score (PES) was improved in eight studies and the weighted cumulative ISR was 98.99% (Median: 100%) in 622 implants. Mean MBLc was -1.19 ± 0.26 mm for 30 implants in studies that reported gap with dehiscence and/or fenestration augmentation. Weighted cumulative ISR was 97.25% in 70 implants. A meta-analysis was not possible due to the lack of studies with an eligible control group. Therefore, the data should be interpreted with caution. CONCLUSION: Less marginal bone loss and more predictable soft tissue parameters can be achieved for immediately restored implants with simultaneous peri-implant gap filling compared with gap with dehiscence/fenestration grafting. Increased ISR for implants with gap filling was observed. However, more evidence is needed to confirm whether immediate provisional prostheses should be utilized when bone defects are simultaneously augmented around the implants.

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to investigate the effect on the severity and prognostic value of serum procalcitonin for elderly patients with oral and maxillofacial infections. We divided 163 elderly patients with severe oral and maxillofacial infection into survival and death groups according to the prognosis between June 2015 and May 2021, measured serum procalcitonin by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 7th day after admission for the dynamic changes of serum procalcitonin level, collected the general physiological and biochemical indexes for the scores of acute physiology and general chronic condition, compared the correlation between serum procalcitonin, mean platelet count and APACHE score, analyzed the prognostic value of serum procalcitonin levels at different time after admission by ROC curve. The serum procalcitonin level increased significantly in both groups after admission, sharply increased at first and then rapidly decreased in the survival group, and continued to rise or declined slowly with fluctuation of high level in the death group. There was a negative correlation between serum procalcitonin level and mean platelet count (r = -0.698, P < .05) and a positive correlation between serum procalcitonin and APACHE II (R = 0.803, P < .05). The ROC curve showed that the serum procalcitonin level had little value on the first day and great value on the third day in predicting the prognosis of elderly patients with severe oral and maxillofacial infection (PCT1d = 0.539, PCT3d = 0.875, P < .05). The serum procalcitonin level is correlated with the severity of the disease in elderly patients with severe oral and maxillofacial space infection. Dynamic observation of it is helpful for the prognosis judgment of patients. After admission, serum procalcitonin level on the third day has a great value for the prognosis judgment of elderly patients with severe oral and maxillofacial space infection.

ABSTRACT

Neolissochilus stracheyi Day 1871 is a rare specie of fish inhabit clear forest streams and rivers. In order to discuss the phylogenetic position of N. stracheyi, the mitochondrial genome was obtained by sequencing. The genome was 16,587 bp in length with an accession number OM203155. The AT contents were 56.59%. The location and composition of genes are consistent with published Cyprinids containing 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, and 1 main non-coding regions. Sequence analysis showed that the mitochondrial genome of N. stracheyi has high sequence homology with other cyprinid fishes. Phylogenetic tree results showed that N. stracheyi is most closely related to Neolissochilus heterostomus. The mitochondrial sequence is of great significance for fish conservation, taxonomic status and resource exploitation.

ABSTRACT

The international development community is off-track from meeting targets for alleviating global malnutrition. Meanwhile, there is growing consensus across scientific disciplines that fish plays a crucial role in food and nutrition security. However, this 'fish as food' perspective has yet to translate into policy and development funding priorities. We argue that the traditional framing of fish as a natural resource emphasizes economic development and biodiversity conservation objectives, whereas situating fish within a food systems perspective can lead to innovative policies and investments that promote nutrition-sensitive and socially equitable capture fisheries and aquaculture. This paper highlights four pillars of research needs and policy directions toward this end. Ultimately, recognizing and working to enhance the role of fish in alleviating hunger and malnutrition can provide an additional long-term development incentive, beyond revenue generation and biodiversity conservation, for governments, international development organizations, and society more broadly to invest in the sustainability of capture fisheries and aquaculture.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: This meta-analysis aimed to perform a meta-analysis including randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to assess the efficiency and safety of tranexamic acid (TXA) for reducing blood loss and transfusion requirements in patients undergoing open myomectomy. METHODS: A systematic search was performed in Medline (1966-2017.03), PubMed (1966-2017.03), Embase (1980-2017.03), ScienceDirect (1985-2017.03,) and the Cochrane Library. Study evaluated the efficiency and safety of TXA in myomectomy was selected. Meta-analysis was performed using Stata 11.0 software. RESULTS: Four RCTs including 328 patients met the inclusion criteria. The present meta-analysis indicated that there were significant differences between groups in terms of total blood loss (standard mean difference [SMD] = -1.512, 95% confidence interval [CI]: -2.746 to -0.278, P = .016), postoperative hemoglobin level (SMD = 0.650, 95% CI: 0.045-1.255, P = .035), transfusion requirements (SMD = -0.102, 95% CI: -0.199 to -0.006, P = .038), and duration of surgery (SMD = -0.514, 95% CI: -0.749 to -0.280, P = .000). In addition, no adverse effect was identified in treatment groups. CONCLUSIONS: Intravenous administration of TXA in open myomectomy was associated with significantly reduced total blood loss, postoperative hemoglobin decline, duration of surgery, and transfusion requirements. Based on the limitations of the current meta-analysis, high-quality RCTs with long-term follow-up are still required.
