ABSTRACT
Se hizo un estudio con el método de revisión bibliográfica sobre la enseñanza del Inglés en los Centros de Educación Médica Superior (CEMS), en la que se analizaron artículos sobre la revolución científico-técnica y las nuevas tecnologías al servicio de la sociedad, y sobre cómo la universidad se ha insertado en este nuevo universo, desempeñando un papel clave, desde múltiples aristas, en lo académico, científico, profesional y cultural. Se ha tomado en cuenta la pertinencia, calidad e internacionalización de la enseñanza del idioma inglés, así como la preparación de los profesionales de la salud en el idioma inglés para su ejercicio profesional tanto dentro como fuera del país. La enseñanza del inglés, por su importancia, ha sido contemplada en los planes de estudio en las universidades médicas; la que va desde la traducción de artículos científicos, la comunicación personal y profesional en misiones internacionalistas y la discusión de los resultados de las investigaciones, entre otras; así se creó el fundamento teórico de este trabajo cuyo objetivo es caracterizar la enseñanza de este idioma en los Centros de Enseñanza Médica Superior, desde el pregrado y su profundización en el posgrado. Conocer y dominar el inglés ha facilitado a los investigadores y expertos utilizar la tecnología y ponerla en función de sus necesidades profesionales y personales.
A study using the method of literature review on the subject of English Language was conducted in Higher Medical Educational Centers, where the articles about scientific-technical revolution and the new technologies to the service of society were analyzed, as well as how the university falls within this new universe performing a key role from multiple points: academic, scientific, professional and cultural. Pertinence, quality and universalization of the English Language teaching was taken into account; moreover the training of health professionals in this foreign language inside and out of the country. English Language teaching, due to its importance, has been included in the syllabus of the medical universities, covering from the translation of scientific articles, to the professional and personal communication in medical international missions and discussion of the results of the researches, among others; this way the theoretical basis of this research was created with the purpose of characterizing the teaching of English Language in Higher Medical Educational Centers, from the pre-graduate and its deepening in postgraduate levels. Learning and mastering English Language has provided researchers and experts with the use of the technology to solve professional and personal needs.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this review is to evaluate the effectiveness of using acupuncture treatment for temporomandibular disorders (TMD) of muscular origin according to research published in the last decade. METHODS: The information was gathered using the MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, and CISCOM databases. The inclusion criteria for selecting the studies were the following: (1) only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were selected; (2) studies had to be carried out on patients with TMD of muscular origin; (3) studies had to use acupuncture treatment; and (4) studies had to be published in scientific journals between 1997 and 2008. Two (2) independent reviewers analyzed the methodological quality of the studies using the Delphi list. A total of four RCTs were chosen once the methodological quality was judged as being acceptable. All of the studies included in the review compared the acupuncture treatment with a placebo treatment. All of them described results that were statistically significant in relation to short-term improvement of TMD signs and symptoms of a muscular origin, except one of the analyzed studies that found no significant difference between acupuncture and sham acupuncture. CONCLUSIONS: In the authors' opinion, research into the long-term effects of acupuncture in the treatment of TMD is needed. We also recommend larger samples sizes for future studies, so the results will be more reliable.

The goal of this study is to review and analyze scientific articles where the Pilates Method was used as treatment for non-specific chronic low back pain (CLBP). Articles were searched using the Medline, EMBASE, PEDro, CINAHL, and SPORTDICUS databases. The criteria used for inclusion were randomized controlled trials (RCT) and clinical controlled trials (CCT) published in English where therapeutic treatment was based on the Pilates Method. The analysis was carried out by two independent reviewers using the PEDro and Jadad Scales. Two RCTs and one CCT were selected for a retrospective analysis. The results of the studies analyzed all demonstrate positive effects, such as improved general function and reduction in pain when applying the Pilates Method in treating non-specific CLBP in adults. However, further research is required to determine which specific parameters are to be applied when prescribing exercises based on the Pilates Method with patients suffering from non-specific CLBP. Finally, we believe that more studies must be carried out where the samples are more widespread so as to give a larger representation and more reliable results.

Se realizó un estudio sobre los resultados alcanzados en el examen de ciclo de Inglés de tercer año de la carrera de medicina de ambos hospitales, León Cuervo Rubio y Abel Santamaría del curso escolar 2005-2006, comparando los resultados de las 4 habilidades impartidas y desarrolladas en el curso Changes, los profesores que trabajamos en este año académico pudimos constatar que las mayores dificultades presentadas según los resultados fueron en la comprensión auditiva, debido a muchos obstáculos y limitaciones de recursos durante el curso anterior, teniendo como resultados que de 100 exámenes analizados solo el 40 % obtuvo notas de 4 y 5 y el resto, que fue el 60 por ciento obtuvo notas de 3 y 2 ptos teniendo en cuenta las mismas limitantes en este curso y los resultados del curso anterior, los profesores que trabajamos en este nivel nos trazamos como estrategia elaborar un sistema de ejercicios complementarios que diera respuesta a estas dificultades y con el objetivo de reforzar la habilidad auditiva al terminar el ciclo básico de esta disciplina, para esta investigación de tipo descriptiva y explicativa se utilizó el método estadístico de porcentaje (AU)
A study about the results obtained on the tests of students enrolled in the third academic year of the Medical Major (2005-2006) was carried out aimed at comparing the development of the four skills through Changes program. Professors who teach the program observed that the main difficulties were present in listening comprehension, because of many obstacles to overcome and limitations in material resources during the preceding course, to conduct this descriptive and explicable study a percentage statistical method was used, and results showed that out of 100 tests analyzed, only 40% had 4 and 5 scores, and the rest (60 per cent), scores of 3 and 2. In this current course (2006-2007), limitations are the same, but the strategy changed in order to create a series of complementary exercises to work with this group of students and try to give solution to the problems found with the purpose of strengthening listening skill (AU)

Los centros de educación superior han trabajado en función de promover la cultura y fundamentalmente la cultura médica que es la que crea y preserva la Universidad Médica. Por ello se exponen las experiencias de 6 años de trabajo en los centros de Ciencias Médicas en las actividades relacionadas con la Extensión Universitaria. Se destaca la importancia de la participación de estudiantes, profesores y trabajadores, no solo en la institución sino también en todas las áreas docentes asistenciales tanto en las especialidades de Medicina como en Licenciatura en Enfermería. En cuyo trabajo se precisan las vías, teniendo en cuenta la participación de comités horizontales, para una correcta planeación de las acciones de extensión así como la importancia de las mismas en relación con la formación multifacética de futuro egresado en ambas especialidades. High Education Centers have worked in order to promote culture, mainly medical culture, the one that creates and preserves Medical University. Experiences related to the Department of Extracurricular Activities were recorded during 6 years of work in Medical Sciences Institutions. Participations of students, professors, workers were not only in the institutions but also in all teaching activities and in tasks developed in medical and nursing specialties are remarked. Ways of planning the actions of extracurricular activities are established taking into account the performance of the year committees, as well as its significance in all_round education of the future doctors and nurses. Aspects related to the aim of obtaining a better work are pointed out, and pertinence of Educative Project is emphasized.
