ABSTRACT

Similarities and differences in vibrational behavior of two guitars having a symmetric Torres bracing pattern and an asymmetric pattern forming a lattice on a soundboard are investigated by means of the modal analysis technique and laser Doppler vibrometry (LDV) measurements. Instruments are investigated before and after a bridge and strings assembling (i.e., they are incomplete or complete). The bracing pattern and the absence/presence of the bridge and strings have some effect on modal frequencies and mode shapes. The bracing pattern does not affect the sequence of at least first three low frequency mode shapes of incomplete/complete instruments but affects their modal frequencies. Depending on frequency, the bridge behaves either as a rigid or a flexible structure.

ABSTRACT

The article is devoted to theoretical analysis of light diffraction in a non-homogeneous acoustic field created by a wedge-shaped piezoelectric transducer. Relationships describing electrical, acoustic and acousto-optic properties of the acousto-optic cell are derived in the approximation of a small thickness of the piezoelectric plate. Principal characteristics of acousto-optic interaction are examined such as dependences of the light diffraction efficiency on the phase mismatch and the acoustic wave amplitude. It is shown that the acoustic field has a complicated amplitude-phase structure changing with the acoustic frequency. It is demonstrated that the diffraction efficiency in the Bragg regime can approach 100% in spite of a noticeable phase mismatch. The appropriate optimal values of ultrasound power and incidence angles of light are found.

ABSTRACT

Ultrasonic studies of the group of halogens of benzene and particularly dependence of acoustic parameters on the structure of organic liquids, demonstrate some interesting regularities in the group of these compounds in gas and liquid states. In this paper results for five cyclic liquids: bromo-, chloro-, fluoro- and jodobenzene are discussed and compared to benzene. Vibrational relaxation was observed in all the compounds. The studies reported here as well as other experimental for great number of compounds support the conclusion that almost all vibrational relaxation processes in liquids can be described using a single relaxation time. It also seems that all vibrational degrees of freedom of the molecule take part in this vibrational process. It seems that differences in transition probabilities between molecules studied could be caused by additional attraction between of molecules having a significant dipole moments.
