ABSTRACT

Background: As dementia progresses, patients exhibit various psychological and behavioral symptoms, imposing a significant burden on families and society, including behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia. However, caregivers lack professional care knowledge and skills, making it difficult for them to effectively cope with the diverse challenges of caregiving. Therefore, it is necessary to provide caregivers with professional knowledge and skills guidance. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the impact of internet-based training on behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia in patients, and explore how this training model affects the caregiving abilities and caregiving burden of the family caregivers of patients with dementia. Methods: Using a consecutive enrollment method, the Department of Geriatrics at Zhejiang Hospital (Zhejiang, China) recruited 72 informal caregivers of patients with dementia. These caregivers were randomly divided into an intervention group and a control group, with 36 participants in each group. The intervention group underwent caregiver skill training via a web-based platform, whereas the control group initially received face-to-face follow-up guidance and was subsequently offered web-based training after 6 months. To assess the effectiveness of the intervention program, we used the Neuropsychiatric Inventory Questionnaire (NPI-Q), the Chinese version of the Zarit Burden Interview (CZBI), and the Sense of Competence in Dementia Care Staff Scale (SCIDS) for evaluations conducted before the intervention, 3 months after the intervention, and 6 months after the intervention. Results: Between July 2019 and December 2020, a total of 66 patients successfully completed the intervention and follow-up. After 6 months of intervention, the NPI-Q score of the intervention group was 3.18 (SD 3.81), the CZBI score was 10.97 (SD 5.43), and the SCIDS score was 71.88 (SD 4.78). The NPI-Q score of the control group was 8.09 (SD 8.52), the CZBI score was 30.30 (SD 13.05), and the SCIDS score was 50.12 (SD 9.10). There were statistically significant differences in NPI-Q (P=.004), CZBI (P<.001), and SCIDS scores (P<.001) between the intervention group and the control group. Repeated measures analysis of variance showed that compared with before the intervention, there were statistically significant differences in CZBI (P<.001) and SCIDS (P<.001) scores 3 months after the intervention, while the difference in NPI-Q (P=.11) scores was not significant. The total scores of NPI-Q (P<.001), CZBI (P<.001), and SCIDS (P<.001) were significantly improved 6 months after the intervention. In addition, the results of the covariance analysis showed that after excluding the time effect, the web-based training intervention significantly reduced the NPI-Q score (-2.79, 95% CI -4.38 to -1.19; P<.001) of patients with dementia and the CZBI score (-13.52, 95% CI -15.87 to -11.16; P<.001) of caregivers, while increasing the SCIDS score (12.24, 95% CI 9.02-15.47; P<.001). Conclusions: Internet-based training could significantly reduce the level of behavioral symptoms in older patients with dementia and alleviate the burden on caregivers, enhancing their caregiving abilities. Our results confirmed the effectiveness and feasibility of web-based training, which was of great significance in providing caregiving knowledge training for informal caregivers of persons with dementia.

ABSTRACT

Ischemic heart disease refers to the imbalance between the supply and demand of myocardial blood; it has various causes and results in a class of clinical diseases characterized by myocardial ischemia (MI). In recent years, the incidence of cardiovascular disease has become higher and higher, and the number of patients with ischemic heart disease has also increased year by year. Traditional treatment methods include drug therapy and surgical treatment, both of which have limitations. The former maybe develop risks of drug resistance and has more significant side effects, while the latter may damage blood vessels and risk infection. At this stage, a new cell-free treatment method needs to be explored. Many research results have shown that exosomes from different cell sources can protect the ischemic myocardium via intercellular action methods, such as promoting angiogenesis, inhibiting myocardial fibrosis, apoptosis and pyroptosis, and providing a new basis for the treatment of MI. In this review, we briefly introduce the formation and consequences of myocardial ischemia and the biology of exosomes, and then focus on the role and mechanism of exosomes from different sources in MI. We also discuss the role and mechanism of exosomes pretreated with Chinese and Western medicines on myocardial ischemia. We also discuss the potential of exosomes as diagnostic markers and therapeutic drug for MI.

ABSTRACT

Mountainous regions are vital biodiversity hotspots with high heterogeneity, providing essential refugia for vegetation. However, climate change threatens this diversity with the potential homogenization of the distinct environmental conditions at different elevations. Here, we used a time-series (1985-2023) of Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) from Landsat archives (30 m) to quantify vegetation changes across an elevation gradient on Himalaya Mountain. Our analysis revealed that over the past 40 years, the Himalayas have experienced widespread greening, accompanied by homogenization of vegetation across elevations. This homogenization, characterized by a reduction in the differences between high and low elevations, can be attributed to two main factors: (1) increased warming and a higher snowmelt rate at high elevations, facilitating rapid changes in high-elevation vegetation activities; and (2) higher anthropogenic disturbance at low and mid elevations, thus inhibiting low-elevation vegetation. These factors have resulted in a reduction of habitat differentiation along the mountain slopes, homogenizing vegetation and potentially threatening the unique biodiversity adapted to specific elevational zones. Our findings emphasize the urgent need for conservation strategies that prioritize the protection of heterogeneous mountain habitats to preserve their rich biodiversity in the face of climate change.

ABSTRACT

The current research was designed to investigate the impact of whole-process high-quality nursing on acute pancreatitis (AP) patients' quality of life as well as the mechanism of miR-126-5p/HOXC8 axis promoting AP progression. One hundred AP patients admitted to our hospital were chosen and separated into control group (CG, n=50) and study group (SG, n=50). The CG took the routine nursing, while the SG adopted the whole-process high-quality nursing. Besides, cerulein (CE) was treated in AR42J cells to establish an experimental model of AP. The proliferation, apoptosis along with inflammation of CE-treated AR42J cells were assessed. The outcomes manifested that in contrast to the CG, the recovery time of bowel sound, the improvement time of abdominal distension, the improvement time of abdominal pain, the exhaust time and the defecation time in the SG presented shorter, the anxiety and depression scores in the SG presented lower, the WHOQOL-100 scores of patients in the SG presented higher in the fields of physiology, psychology, environment and social relations, the total incidence of complications of the SG presented lower, and the total nursing satisfaction of the SG was better. Besides, miR-126-5p presented upregulation in CE-stimulated AR42J cells, and miR-126-5p inhibition increased the proliferation along with repressed the apoptosis and inflammation in CE-stimulated AR42J cells. Moreover, HOXC8 could be the target mRNA of miR-126-5p, and HOXC8 elevation promoted the proliferation along with repressed the apoptosis and inflammation in CE-stimulated AR42J cells. In addition, rescue assays further validated that HOXC8 silence offset the protective impact of miR-126-5p repression on AP cell damage. In conclusion, our study indicated that whole-process high-quality nursing could promote the quality of life of AP patients, and revealed that miR-126-5p inhibition relieved CE-stimulated AR42J cells injury caused by AP via targeting HOXC8. Our study might offer novel insights for AP treatment and nursing.

ABSTRACT

Objective: Identifying the status of caring behavior and its influencing factors in nurses is crucial for improving the quality of care for patients. However, there is a lack of studies on this in Sierra Leone. This study explored the status of caring behavior and associated factors in nurses working in Sierra Leone. Study design: A cross-sectional descriptive survey was conducted from October 3 to December 15, 2022, with clinical nurses recruited through convenience sampling. Methods: The participants included 360 nurses from various nursing departments from 12 hospitals in Sierra Leone. Measurements included a general information questionnaire, the Caring Behavior Inventory, Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, McCloskey/Mueller Satisfaction Scale and Zung's Self-Rating Anxiety Scale. Descriptive statistics, one-way analysis of variance and independent-sample t-tests, Pearson's correlation analyses, and multiple regression analyses were performed. Results: Caring behavior score was 128.97 (SD 11.967); it significantly and positively correlated with job satisfaction and resilience and negatively correlated with anxiety. Linear regression analysis showed that resilience, job satisfaction, anxiety, daily working time, and position were the main predictors of caring behavior. Conclusion: The level of caring behavior in nurses in Sierra Leone was moderate. Resilience and job satisfaction significantly and positively predicted nurses' caring behavior. Anxiety, daily working time, and position are important factors of caring behaviors. Implications for practice: It is suggested to create a conducive working environment, reduce the excessive workload of nurses, enhance their positive psychological state, and their job satisfaction by providing recognition and rewards to improve the level of nurses' caring behavior.

ABSTRACT

Distal third tibial fractures associated with anterior soft tissue compromise are a predictor of more complications and poor prognosis. The study aimed to introduce the treatment of such fractures through the posterolateral approach. From March 2020 and January 2022, 32 patients with distal third tibial fractures were plated through the posterolateral approach due to concurrent closed anterior soft tissue compromise. There were 30 male and 2 female patients with the mean age of 33 years (range, 20-53 years). The reduction quality of diaphyseal fractures was good (n=30) and acceptable (n=2). The reduction quality of articular fragments was anatomic (n=21), good (n=6), and fair (n=1). All anterior soft tissue injuries healed without surgical intervention. Follow-ups lasted 28 months (range, 25-34 months). The mean dorsiflexion of the injured and uninjured ankles were 17.8°±5.4° and 24.5°±6.6°, respectively (P<0.05). The mean plantar flexion of the ankles were 42°±8.8° and 46°±12.9°, respectively (P>0.05). The mean inversion of the injured and uninjured ankles were 15°±13.3° and 19°±12.4°, respectively (P<0.05). The mean eversion of the injured and uninjured ankles were 27.8°±16.9° and 32.9°±14.3°, respectively (P>0.05). The mean American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle score was 90 (range, 68-100). Distal third tibial fractures with anterior soft tissue compromise can be plated through the posterolateral approach, resulting in good functional outcomes and minimum complications. ABSTRACT

With the development of organic electrochemical synthesis, a series of notable achievements have been made in electrochemical Ritter amination reactions, which have enriched the methods available for constructing C-N bonds. In this review, electrochemical Ritter amination reactions are introduced based on the classification of reaction substrates, including olefins, aromatics, alkylbenzenes, and the less reported carboxylic acids, ketones, sulfides, and alkanes. The application of electrochemical technology to Ritter reactions has improved the harsh conditions of the traditional reactions, and extended the substrate scope and the structural diversity of the products. The application value of Ritter reactions in organic synthesis has also been further expanded.

ABSTRACT

In reality, pairwise interactions are no longer sufficient to describe the higher-order interactions between nodes, such as brain networks, social networks, etc., which often contain groups of three or more nodes. Since the failure of one node in a high-order network can lead to the failure of all simplices in which it is located and quickly propagates to the whole system through the interdependencies between networks, multilayered high-order interdependent networks are challenged with high vulnerability risks. To increase the robustness of higher-order networks, in this paper, we proposed a theoretical model of a two-layer partial high-order interdependent network, where a proportion of reinforced nodes are introduced that can function and support their simplices and components, even losing connection with the giant component. We study the order parameter of the proposed model, including the giant component and functional components containing at least one reinforced node, via theoretical analysis and simulations. Rich phase transition phenomena can be observed by varying the density of 2-simplices and the proportion of the network's reinforced nodes. Increasing the density of 2-simplices makes a double transition appear in the network. The proportion of reinforced nodes can alter the type of second transition of the network from discontinuous to continuous or transition-free, which is verified on the double random simplicial complex, double scale-free simplicial complex, and real-world datasets, indicating that reinforced nodes can significantly enhance the robustness of the network and can prevent networks from abrupt collapse. Therefore, the proposed model provides insights for designing robust interdependent infrastructure networks.

ABSTRACT

Prior research on cascading failures within interdependent networks has predominantly emphasized the coupling of nodes. Nevertheless, in practical networks, interactions often exist not just through the nodes themselves but also via the connections (edges) linking them, a configuration referred to as edge-coupled interdependent networks. Past research has shown that introducing a certain percentage of reinforced nodes or connecting edges can prevent catastrophic network collapses. However, the effect of reinforced inter-layer links in edge-coupled interdependent networks has yet to be addressed. Here, we develop a theoretical framework for studying percolation models in edge-coupled interdependent networks by introducing a proportion of reinforced inter-layer links and deriving detailed expressions for the giant and finite components and the percolation phase transition threshold. We find that there exists a required minimum proportion of the reinforced inter-layer links to prevent abrupt network collapse, which serves as a boundary to distinguish different phase transition types of a network. We provide both analytical and numerical solutions for random and scale-free networks, demonstrating that the proposed method exhibits superior reinforcement efficiency compared to intra-layer link reinforcement strategies. Theoretical analysis, simulation results, and real network systems validate our model and indicate that introducing a specific proportion of reinforced inter-layer links can prevent abrupt system failure and enhance network robustness in edge-coupled interdependent networks.

Drought stress is a critical environmental factor that significantly impacts plant growth and productivity. However, the transcriptome analysis of differentially expressed genes in response to drought stress in Camellia oleifera Abel. is still unclear. This study analyzed the transcriptome sequencing data of C. oleifera under drought treatments. A total of 20,674 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified under drought stress, with the number of DEGs increasing with the duration of drought. Specifically, 11,793 and 18,046 DEGs were detected after 8 and 15 days of drought treatment, respectively, including numerous upregulated and downregulated genes. Gene Ontology (GO) enrichment analysis showed that the DEGs were primarily involved in various biological processes. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis revealed that carbon metabolism, glyoxylate and dicarboxylate metabolism, proteasome, glycine, serine, and threonine metabolism were the main affected pathways. Among the DEGs, 376 protein kinases, 42 proteases, 168 transcription factor (TF) genes, and 152 other potential functional genes were identified, which may play significant roles in the drought response of C. oleifera. The expression of relevant functional genes was further validated using quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). These findings contribute to the comprehension of drought tolerance mechanisms in C. oleifera and bolster the identification of drought-resistant genes for molecular breeding purposes.

To explore the role of the membrane permease ⅡB (EⅡB) gene of Listeria pathogenicity island 4 (LIPI-4) in the virulence of Listeria monocytogenes, both an EⅡB deletion strain (∆EⅡB) and a complemented strain were constructed. In vitro experiments demonstrated that EⅡB deletion affected the biofilm formation ability of the wild-type strain (Lm928). Moreover, this deletion decreased the intracellular proliferation abilities of L. monocytogenes. Mice infected with ∆EⅡB survived longer and experienced less weight loss on days 1, 2, and 3 post-infection. The bacterial load in the liver tissue of ∆EⅡB-infected mice was significantly reduced, and a considerable decrease in the blood levels of inflammatory cytokines IL-ß, IL-6, IL-10, and TNF-α were observed. Following EⅡB deletion, 65% (13/20) of genes were downregulated, 25% (5/20) were upregulated, and 10% (2/20) showed no change. These findings suggest that EⅡB deletion may reduce both the in vivo and in vitro virulence levels as well as the biofilm formation ability of Lm928 by downregulating the transcription levels of genes associated with virulence and biofilm formation. These findings provide a foundation for further examining the pathogenic mechanisms of LIPI-4 and EⅡB in L. monocytogenes.

ABSTRACT

Listeria monocytogenes (L. monocytogenes) is a foodborne pathogen that causes listeriosis in humans and other animals. Surface proteins with the LPXTG motif have important roles in the virulence of L. monocytogenes. Lmo0159 is one such protein, but little is known about its role in L. monocytogenes virulence, motility, and biofilm formation. Here, we constructed and characterized a deletion mutant of lmo0159 (∆lmo0159). We analyzed not only the capacity of biofilm formation, motility, attachment, and intracellular growth in different cell types but also LD50; bacterial load in mice's liver, spleen, and brain; expression of virulence genes; and survival time of mice after challenge. The results showed that the cross-linking density of the biofilm of ∆lmo0159 strain was lower than that of WT by microscopic examination. The expression of biofilm-formation and virulence genes also decreased in the biofilm state. Subsequently, the growth and motility of ∆lmo0159 in the culture medium were enhanced. Conversely, the growth and motility of L. monocytogenes were attenuated by ∆lmo0159 at both the cellular and mouse levels. At the cellular level, ∆lmo0159 reduced plaque size; accelerated scratch healing; and attenuated the efficiency of adhesion, invasion, and intracellular proliferation in swine intestinal epithelial cells (SIEC), RAW264.7, mouse-brain microvascular endothelial cells (mBMEC), and human-brain microvascular endothelial cells (hCMEC/D3). The expression of virulence genes was also inhibited. At the mouse level, the LD50 of the ∆lmo0159 strain was 100.97 times higher than that of the WT strain. The bacterial load of the ∆lmo0159 strain in the liver and spleen was lower than that of the WT strain. In a mouse model of intraperitoneal infection, the deletion of the lmo0159 gene significantly prolonged the survival time of the mice, suggesting that the lmo0159 deletion mutant also exhibited reduced virulence. Thus, our study identified lmo0159 as a novel virulence factor among L. monocytogenes LPXTG proteins.

ABSTRACT

The airway epithelium is located at the interactional boundary between the external and internal environments of the organism and is often exposed to harmful environmental stimuli. Inflammatory response that occurs after airway epithelial stress is the basis of many lung and systemic diseases. Chloride intracellular channel 4 (CLIC4) is abundantly expressed in epithelial cells. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether CLIC4 is involved in the regulation of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammatory response in airway epithelial cells and to clarify its potential mechanism. Our results showed that LPS induced inflammatory response and decreased CLIC4 levels in vivo and in vitro. CLIC4 silencing aggravated the inflammatory response in epithelial cells, while overexpression of CLIC4 combined with LPS exposure significantly decreased the inflammatory response compared with cells exposed to LPS without CLIC4 overexpression. By labeling intracellular chloride ions with chloride fluorescent probe MQAE, we showed that CLIC4 mediated intracellular chloride ion-regulated LPS-induced cellular inflammatory response.

ABSTRACT

Increased nitrogen deposition is a key feature of global climate change, however, its effects on the structure and assembling mechanisms of the nitrogen-fixing bacteria present at the root surface remain to be elucidated. In this pursuit, we used NH4NO3 to simulate nitrogen deposition in a 10-year-old Camellia oleifera plantation, and set up four deposition treatments, including control N0 (0 kg N hm-2 a-1), low nitrogen N20 (20 kg N hm-2 a-1), medium nitrogen N40 (40 kg N hm-2 a-1) and high nitrogen N160 (160 kg N hm-2 a-1). The results showed that nitrogen deposition affected the soil nitrogen content and the structure of the nitrogen-fixing bacterial community. Low nitrogen deposition was conducive for nitrogen fixation in mature C. oleifera plantation. With increasing nitrogen deposition, the dominant soil nitrogen-fixing bacterial community shifted from Desulfobulbaceae to Bradyrhizobium. When nitrogen deposition was below 160 kg N hm-2 a-1, the soil organic matter content, total nitrogen content, nitrate nitrogen content, ammonium nitrogen content, urease activity, soil pH and nitrate reductase activity influenced the composition of the nitrogen-fixing bacterial community, but the stochastic process remained the dominant factor. The results indicate that the strains of Bradyrhizobium japonicum and Bradyrhizobium sp. ORS 285 can be used as indicator species for excessive nitrogen deposition.

Flexible capacitive pressure sensors based on ionic hydrogels (IHs) have garnered significant attention in the field of wearable technology. However, the vulnerability of traditional single-network hydrogels to mechanical damage and the complexity associated with preparing double-network hydrogels present challenges in developing a highly sensitive, easily prepared, and durable IH-based flexible capacitive pressure sensor. This study introduces a novel multicross-linked dual-network IH achieved through the physical and chemical cross-linking of polymers polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and chitosan (CS), ionic solution H3PO4, and cross-linking agent gum arabic. Flexible capacitive pressure sensors, characterized by high sensitivity and a broad pressure range, are fabricated by employing mesh as templates to design cut-corner cube microstructures with high uniformity and controllability on the IHs. The sensor exhibits high sensitivity across a wide pressure range (0-290 kPa) and with excellent features such as high resolution (∼1.3 Pa), fast response-recovery time (∼11 ms), and repeatable compression stability at 25 kPa (>2000 cycles). The IHs as a dielectric layer demonstrate long-term water retention properties, enabling exposure to air for up to 100 days. Additionally, the developed sensor shows the ability to accurately measure the pulse wave within the small pressure range. By combining the pulse wave acquired by the sensor with a trained neural network model, we achieve successful blood pressure (BP) prediction, meeting the standards set by the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation and the British Hypertension Society. Ultimately, the sensor proposed in this study holds promising prospects for broad applications in high-precision wearable medical electronic devices.

BACKGROUND: According to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), drugs supplementing the vital energy, Qi, can eliminate tumors by restoring host immunity. The objective of this study is to investigate the underlying immune mechanisms of anti-tumor activity associated with Qi-supplementing herbs, specifically the paired use of Huangqi and Danggui. METHODS: Analysis of compatibility regularity was conducted to screen the combination of Qi-supplementing TCMs. Using the MTT assay and a transplanted tumor mice model, the anti-tumor effects of combination TCMs were investigated in vitro and in vivo. High content analysis and flow cytometry were then used to evaluate cellular immunity, followed by network pharmacology and molecular docking to dissect the significant active compounds and potential mechanisms. Finally, the anti-tumor activity and the mechanism of the active ingredients were verified by molecular experiments. RESULTS: There is an optimal combination of Huangqi and Danggui that, administered as an aqueous extract, can activate immunity to suppress tumor and is more effective than each drug on its own in vitro and in vivo. Based on network pharmacology analysis, PIK3R1 is the core target for the anti-tumor immunity activity of combined Huangqi and Danggui. Molecular docking analysis shows 6 components of the combined Danggui and Huangqi extract (quercetin, jaranol, isorhamnetin, kaempferol, calycosin, and suchilactone) that bind to PIK3R1. Jaranol is the most important component against breast cancer. The suchilactone/jaranol combination and, especially, the suchilactone/kaempferol combination are key for immunity enhancement and the anti-tumor effects of the extract. CONCLUSIONS: The combination of Huangqi and Danggui can activate immunity to suppress breast cancer and is more effective than the individual drugs alone.

ABSTRACT

With climate warming and economic globalization, insect-microbe assemblages are becoming increasingly responsible for various devastating forest diseases worldwide. Japanese larch (Larix kaempferi) is extensively cultivated in China because of its high survival rate, rapid maturation and robust mechanical properties. Endoconidiophora fujiensis, an ophiostomatoid fungus associated with Ips subelongatus, has been identified as a lethal pathogen of L. kaempferi in Japan. However, there is a dearth of research on the pathogenicity of E. fujiensis in larches in China. Therefore, we investigated the pathogenicity of E. fujiensis in introduced L. kaempferi and indigenous larch (Larix olgensis) trees and compared the induced resistance responses to the pathogen in both tree species in terms of physiology and gene expression. Five-year-old saplings and 25-year-old adult trees of L. olgensis and L. kaempferi were inoculated in parallel during the same growing season. Endoconidiophora fujiensis exhibited high pathogenicity in both larch species, but particularly in L. kaempferi compared with L. olgensis adult trees; adult L. olgensis was more resistant to E. fujiensis than adult L. kaempferi, which was reflected in higher accumulation of defensive monoterpenes, such as myrcene, 3-carene and limonene and the earlier induction of defense genes catalase (CAT) and pathogenesis-related protein 1 (PR1). This study contributes to our understanding of the interactions between bark beetle-associated ophiostomatoid fungi and host larches, from phenotypic responses to alterations in secondary metabolites via defense- and metabolism-related gene activation, providing a valuable foundation for the management of larch diseases and pests in the future.

BACKGROUND: Periodontitis represents the foremost oral condition in young men, strongly correlated with socioeconomic elements and oral health behaviors. This research aimed to assess the prevalence of periodontitis and associated associations with socio-demographics and oral health practices for subsequent Hazard Ratio (HR) estimation. METHODS: A total of 46,476 young men were recruited to the study between August 2022 and October 2023. A questionnaire on socio-demographic factors and oral health-related behaviors related to periodontitis was completed. The standard procedure was used for oral examination. Logistic regression and hazard ratios were used to estimate the influencing factors, whereas the nomogram was used to predict the risk of periodontitis in young men. RESULTS: A total of 46,476 young men were surveyed and completed the questionnaire. The overall prevalence of periodontitis among young men was 1.74%. Out of these, 1.7% had mild periodontitis and 0.6% had moderate periodontitis. Age and dental calculus were important factors in the periodontal health of young men. This nomogram, which includes 7 easily obtainable clinical characteristics routinely collected during periodontitis risk assessment, provides clinicians with a user-friendly tool to assess the risk of periodontal disease in young men. CONCLUSIONS: Regular dental prophylaxis is crucial for young men to maintain their gingival health and prevent the onset of periodontitis. Dental calculus plays a prominent role in this matter, as it serves as a significant contributing factor.
