ABSTRACT

Consumer partiality for food products is related to purchase and consumption behavior, and are influenced by sensory preferences. The sensory and chemical drivers behind consumer preference in the infant formula (IF) were analyzed. A total of 31 aroma-active compounds were identified, playing an important role in the production of off-flavors (especially fishy). Combined with the correlation analysis, the key aroma substances affecting the sensory attributes of IF were initially identified. A21, A22, B9 represented the key substances responsible for producing milky and creamy, while A2, A5, A11, A12, B5, C15, H5 primarily produced fishy. In addition, the two sensory attributes namely milky and creamy, and the T-sweet were more strongly correlated with consumer preference. Therefore, it can be concluded that consumers are more interested in the main flavor of the product than the off-flavor. These findings will inform the quality control of IF and the maintenance of sensory quality.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: To report the first and largest systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCT) to evaluate the efficacy and safety of aripiprazole or bupropion augmentation and switching in patients with treatment-resistant depression (TRD) or major depressive disorder(MDD). METHODS: We conducted a systematic literature retrieval via PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane until April 2023 for RCT, which evaluated the efficacy and safety of aripiprazole or bupropion augmentation and switching for patients with TRD or MDD. Outcomes measured were changes in the Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS), response and remission rate, and serious adverse events. RESULTS: Five RCTs, including 4480 patients, were included for meta-analysis. Among them, two RCTs were rated as "high risk" in three aspects (allocation concealment, blinding of participants and personnel and blinding of outcome assessment) because of the non-blind method, and the quality evaluation of the remaining works of literature was "low risk". Augmentation treatment with Aripiprazole (A-ARI) was associated with a significant higher response rate compared with augmentation treatment with bupropion (A-BUP) (RR: 1.15; 95% CI: 1.05, 1.25; P = 0.0007; I2 = 23%). Besides, A-ARI had a significant higher remission rate compared with switching to bupropion (S-BUP) (RR: 1.22; 95% CI: 1.00, 1.49; P = 0.05; I2 = 59%) and A-BUP had a significant higher remission rate compared with S-BUP (RR: 1.20; 95% CI: 1.06, 1.36; P = 0.0004; I2 = 0%). In addition, there was no significant difference in remission rate(RR: 1.05; 95% CI: 0.94, 1.17; P = 0.42; I2 = 33%), improvement of MADRS(WMD: -2.07; 95% CI: -5.84, 1.70; P = 0.28; I2 = 70%) between A-ARI and A-BUP. No significant difference was observed in adverse events and serious adverse events among the three treatment strategies. CONCLUSIONS: A-ARI may be a better comprehensive antidepressant treatment strategy than A-BUP or S-BUP for patients with TRD or MDD. More large-scale, multi-center, double-blind RCTs are needed to further evaluated the efficacy and safety of aripiprazole or bupropion augmentation and switching treatment strategies.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Pancreatic cancer (PC) is among the deadliest malignancies. Kidney cancer (KC) is a common malignancy globally. Chemo- or radio-therapies are not very effective to control PC or KC, and overdoses often cause severe site reactions to the patients. As a result, novel treatment strategies with high efficacy but without toxic side effects are urgently desired. Secoisolariciresinol diglucoside (SDG) belongs to plant lignans with potential anticancer activities, but clinical evidence is not available in PC or KC treatment. Patient Concerns: We report a rare case of an 83-year-old female patient with pancreatic and kidney occupying lesions that lacked the conditions to receive surgery or chemo- or radiotherapy. Diagnosis: Pancreatic and kidney cancers. Interventions: We gave dietary SDG to the patient as the only therapeutics. Outcomes: SDG effectively halted progression of both PC and KC. All clinical manifestations, including bad insomnia, loss of appetite, stomach symptoms, and skin itching over the whole body, all disappeared. The initial massive macroscopic hematuria became microscopic and infrequent, and other laboratory results also gradually returned to normal. Most of the cancer biomarkers, initially high such as CEA, CA199, CA724, CA125, came down rapidly, among which CA199 changed most radically. This patient has had progression-free survival of one year so far. Conclusion: These results demonstrate the potent inhibitory effects of SDG on PC and KC of this patient and provide promising novel therapeutics for refractory malignant tumors.

ABSTRACT

The odor of infant formula changes due to alterations in its volatile composition during the shelf life. However, there is currently a lack of research on whether the odor changes in infant formula during the secondary shelf life, which refers to the period of repeated opening and usage in daily life. This study used headspace solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME) coupled with gas chromatography-electrostatic orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry (GC-Orbitrap-MS) to investigate the volatile composition changes in one-stage and three-stage infant formulas during different stages (0 day, 3 days, and 7 days during the secondary shelf-life, i.e. simulated daily use). A total of 32 volatiles were identified, including nine aldehydes, seven ketones, four alcohols, three furans, two sulfur compounds, two esters, and five terpenoids. Of these, 16 compounds changed significantly in one-stage samples and 23 compounds in three-stage samples within 7 days of the secondary shelf-life. Further the odor of the three-stage infant formula samples was found changed substantially after 3 days of simulated use by using the triangle test. This study highlighted the considerable alterations in volatile compound composition and sensory changes during the simulated daily use and provided valuable insights for consumers in selecting and using infant formula products, as well as a new perspective for enterprises to improve the sensory quality of their products.

Studies have shown that high hydrostatic pressure (HHP) processing and chlorogenic acid (CA) treatment can effectively reduce food allergenicity. We hypothesize that these novel processing techniques can help tackle crayfish allergy and examined the impact and mechanism of HHP (300 MPa, 15 min) and CA (CA:tropomyosin = 1:4000, 15 min) on the allergenicity of crayfish tropomyosin. Our results revealed that CA, rather than HHP, effectively reduced tropomyosin's allergenicity, as evident in the alleviation of allergic symptoms in a food allergy mouse model. Spectroscopy and molecular docking analyses demonstrated that CA could reduce the allergenicity of tropomyosin by covalent or non-covalent binding, altering its secondary structure (2.1 % decrease in α-helix; 1.9 % increase in ß-fold) and masking tropomyosin's linear epitopes. Moreover, CA-treated tropomyosin potentially induced milder allergic reactions by up-regulating TLR8. While our results supported the efficacy of CA in alleviating crayfish allergy, further exploration is needed to determine clinical effectiveness.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore the effect of catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) Val158Met and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) Val66Met to post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI) and the interaction with transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS). METHODS: Seventy-six patients with PSCI were randomly assigned to Group (1) (n = 38) to receive anodal tDCS of left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex or Group (2) (n = 38) to receive sham stimulation. The intensity of the tDCS was 2 mA, and the stimulations were applied over the left DLPFC for 10 sessions. The Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) and backward digit span test (BDST) were assessed before, immediately after, and one month after stimulation. RESULTS: After stimulation, patients in the tDCS group showed better improvement in both MoCA and BDST than those in the sham group. The results of GLMs also supported the main effects of tDCS on general cognitive function and working memory. Then we found that COMT genotype may have a main effect on the improvement of MoCA and BDST, and there may be an interaction between COMT genotype and tDCS in enhancing BDST. In contrast, BDNF genotype showed no significant main or interaction effects on any scales. CONCLUSIONS: These findings demonstrate that tDCS can improve cognition after stroke. Gene polymorphisms of COMT can affect the efficacy of tDCS on PSCI, but BDNF may not. SIGNIFICANCE: This study found that COMT Val158Met has an interaction on the efficacy of prefrontal tDCS in cognitive function, which provides reference for future tDCS research and clinical application.

ABSTRACT

This study combined gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and odor activity value (OAV) assessments to analyze the volatile ingredient changes in formula powder during 11 months of storage at room temperature. Orthogonal partial least squares-discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) and variable importance in projection (VIP) were also used to assess the potential indicators of aroma changes during storage. The aim was to expose the possible changes in the aroma profile and the substances that alter infant formula (IF) aroma during storage. The results showed that the aldehyde and ketone content in the milk formula increased as the storage time was extended, while the lactone and terpenoid levels decreased significantly. The OAV indicated the presence of various major aromatic substances at different storage times. Considering consumer concern regarding product flavor, this study ascertained that monitoring substance changes during storage showed that 2-heptanone was a good indicator of milk flavor, dimethyl disulfide was a suitable indicator of protein degradation, and 3-methylbutanal, heptanal, hexanal, pentanal, and octanal were all good indicators of fat oxidation. The results of previous related studies were used to supplement the data in this work regarding the changes in IF during product shelf life and to provide support for controlling the flavor substances and quality during new product development.

ABSTRACT

Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is the most common and fatal subtype of ovarian malignancies, with no effective therapeutics available. Our previous studies have demonstrated extraordinary suppressive efficacy of enterolactone (ENL) on EOC. A chemotherapeutic agent, trabectedin (Trabe), is shown to be effective on ovarian cancer, especially when combined with other therapeutics, such as pegylated liposomal doxorubicin or oxaliplatin. Thrombospondin 1 (THBS1), a kind of matrix glycoprotein, plays important roles against cancer development through inhibiting angiogenesis but whether it is involved in the suppression of EOC by ENL or Trabe remains unknown. To test combined suppressive effects of ENL and Trabe on EOC and possible involvement of THBS1 in the anticancer activities of ENL and Trabe. The EOC cell line ES-2 was transfected with overexpressed THBS1 by lentivirus vector. We employed tube formation assay to evaluate the anti-angiogenesis activity of ENL and of its combined use with Trabe after THBS1 overexpression and established drug intervention and xenograft nude mouse cancer models to assess the in vivo effects of the hypothesized synergistic suppression between the agents and the involvement of THBS1. Mouse fecal samples were collected for 16S rDNA sequencing and microbiota analysis. We detected strong inhibitory activities of ENL and Trabe against the proliferation and migration of cancer cells and observed synergistic effects between ENL and Trabe in suppressing EOC. ENL and Trabe, given either separately or in combination, could suppress the tube formation capability of human microvascular endothelial cells, and this inhibitory effect became even stronger with THBS1 overexpression. In the ENL plus Trabe combination group, the expression of tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases 3 and cluster of differentiation 36 was both upregulated, whereas matrix metalloproteinase 9, vascular endothelial growth factor, and cluster of differentiation 47 were all decreased. With the overexpression of THBS1, the results became even more pronounced. In animal experiments, combined use of ENL and Trabe showed superior inhibitory effects to either single agent and significantly suppressed tumor growth, and the overexpression of THBS1 further enhanced the anti-cancer activities of the drug combination group. ENL and Trabe synergistically suppress EOC and THBS1 could remarkably facilitate the synergistic anticancer effects of ENL and Trabe.

ABSTRACT

Many lines of evidence demonstrate the associations of colorectal cancer (CRC) with intestinal microbial dysbiosis. Recent reports have suggested that maintaining the homeostasis of microbiota and host might be beneficial to CRC patients, but the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, we established a CRC mouse model of microbial dysbiosis and evaluated the effects of fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) on CRC progression. Azomethane and dextran sodium sulfate were used to induce CRC and microbial dysbiosis in mice. Intestinal microbes from healthy mice were transferred to CRC mice by enema. The vastly disordered gut microbiota of CRC mice was largely reversed by FMT. Intestinal microbiota from normal mice effectively suppressed cancer progression as assessed by measuring the diameter and number of cancerous foci and significantly prolonged survival of the CRC mice. In the intestine of mice that had received FMT, there were massive infiltration of immune cells, including CD8+ T and CD49b+ NK, which is able to directly kill cancer cells. Moreover, the accumulation of immunosuppressive cells, Foxp3+ Treg cells, seen in the CRC mice was much reduced after FMT. Additionally, FMT regulated the expressions of inflammatory cytokines in CRC mice, including down-regulation of IL1a, IL6, IL12a, IL12b, IL17a, and elevation of IL10. These cytokines were positively correlated with Azospirillum_sp._47_25, Clostridium_sensu_stricto_1, the E. coli complex, Akkermansia, Turicibacter, and negatively correlated with Muribaculum, Anaeroplasma, Candidatus_Arthromitus, and Candidatus Saccharimonas. Furthermore, the repressed expressions of TGFb, STAT3 and elevated expressions of TNFa, IFNg, CXCR4 together promoted the anti-cancer efficacy. Their expressions were positively correlated with Odoribacter, Lachnospiraceae-UCG-006, Desulfovibrio, and negatively correlated with Alloprevotella, Ruminococcaceae UCG-014, Ruminiclostridium, Prevotellaceae UCG-001 and Oscillibacter. Our studies indicate that FMT inhibits the development of CRC by reversing gut microbial disorder, ameliorating excessive intestinal inflammation and cooperating with anti-cancer immune responses.

SCOPE: Oral food challenges (OFCs) are currently the gold standard for determining the clinical reactivity of food allergy (FA) but are time-consuming, expensive, and risky. To screen novel peripheral biomarkers of FA and characterize the aberrant lipid metabolism in serum, 24 rats are divided into four groups: peanut, milk, and shrimp allergy (PA, MA, and SA, respectively) and control groups, with six rats in each group, and used for widely targeted lipidomics and transcriptomics analysis. METHODS AND RESULTS: Widely targeted lipidomics reveal 144, 162, and 206 differentially accumulated lipids in PA, MA, and SA groups, respectively. The study integrates widely targeted lipidomics and transcriptomics and identifies abnormal lipid metabolism correlated with widespread differential accumulation of diverse lipids (including triacylglycerol, diacylglycerol, sphingolipid, and glycerophospholipid) in PA, MA, and SA. Simplified random forest classifier is constructed through five repetitions of 10-fold cross-validation to distinguish allergy from control. A subset of 15 lipids as potential biomarkers allows for more reliable and more accurate prediction of FA. Independent replication validates the reproducibility of potential biomarkers. CONCLUSION: The results reveal the major abnormalities in lipid metabolism and suggest the potential role of lipids as novel molecular signatures for FA.

OBJECTIVE: Mandibular growth that is induced by functional appliances is closely associated with skeletal and neuromuscular adaptation. Accumulating evidence has proved that apoptosis and autophagy have a vital role in adaptation process. However, little is known about the underlying mechanisms. This study sought to determine whether ATF-6 is involved in stretch-induced apoptosis and autophagy in myoblast. The study also sought to uncover the potential molecular mechanism. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Apoptosis was assessed by TUNEL and Annexin V and PI staining. Autophagy was detected by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis and immunofluorescent staining for autophagy-related protein light chain 3 (LC3). Real time-PCR and western blot were performed to evaluate the expression level of mRNA and proteins that were associated with endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS), autophagy and apoptosis. RESULTS: Cyclic stretch significantly decreased the cell viability and induced apoptosis and autophagy of myoblasts time-dependently. Stretching stimuli activated ATF-6 pathway and induced ERS-mediated apoptosis. Moreover, using 4-PBA significantly inhibited ERS-related apoptosis, as well as partially decreasing autophagy. In addition, inhibition of autophagy by 3-MA enhanced apoptosis by affecting the expression of CHOP and Bcl-2. However, it had no obvious effects on ERS-related proteins of GRP78 and ATF-6. More importantly, knockdown ATF-6 effectively weakened apoptosis and autophagy. It did so by regulating the expression of Bcl-2, Beclin1 and CHOP, but not cleaved Caspase-12, LC3II and p62 in stretched myoblast. CONCLUSION: ATF-6 pathway was activated in myoblast by mechanical stretch. ATF-6 may regulate the process of stretch-induced myoblast apoptosis and autophagy via CHOP, Bcl-2 and Beclin1 signaling.

ABSTRACT

With the wide application of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) plate, used for strengthening existed concrete structures, the prestressing technology of CFRP plate is becoming a hot topic, in order to sufficiently develop its high-strength peculiarity. In this paper, a full-scale hollow-section beam with length of 16 m taken from an old bridge which was in service for about 20 years was first examined for existed cracks and repaired by filling epoxy adhesive, and then the beam was strengthened with prestressed CFRP plates. The CFRP plates were tensioned and fixed with flat-plate anchorages at ends and bonded with adhesive on the bottom surface of the beam. The strengthened beam was experimentally studied using a four-point test to measure the concrete strain along the height of the mid-span section and the mid-span deflection. The finite element model of the strengthened beam was verified by the comparison of test results and used for an extending study of parametric analysis considering the effect of the length and amount of CFRP plates. Results indicated that with an increase in the length and amount of CFRP plates, the mid-span deflection of the beam decreases with the increased cracking resistance and bearing capacity, while the ultimate failure mode transfers from the under-reinforcement to the over-reinforcement.

Background: Although tigecycline is an effective drug against drug-resistant bacteria, it demonstrated a higher all-cause mortality than comparator antibiotics and a high incidence of coagulation disorders which can be accompanied by severe bleeding. At present, a predictive model for tigecycline-related coagulopathy is not readily available, and the prognostic value of coagulopathy in tigecycline-administered patients has not been elucidated. In this paper, we investigate the association between tigecycline-related coagulopathy and in-hospital mortality to develop a nomogram for the prediction of tigecycline-related coagulopathy. Methods: This retrospective cohort study includes 311 adults prescribed with tigecycline from 2018 to 2020. The primary cohort and validation cohort were constructed by dividing the participants in a ratio of 7:3. The endpoint is tigecycline-related coagulopathy, defined as a condition with no abnormality in coagulation prior to tigecycline application but developed the following symptoms upon prescription: activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) extended by >10 s than the upper limit of normal (ULN), prothrombin time (PT) prolonged for >3 s than the ULN or reduced serum level of fibrinogen to <2.0 g/L. A predictive nomogram based on logistic regression was subsequently constructed. Results: Tigecycline intake for over 7 days, combined other antibiotics, initial PT, initial fibrinogen and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), are independent prognostic factors of tigecycline-related coagulopathy. The primary and validation cohort each has an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) of 0.792 (0.732-0.851) and 0.730 (0.629-0.832) for nomogram, respectively. Furthermore, the fitted calibration curve illustrated adequate fit of the model, while the decision curve analysis demonstrated good clinical value. Survival curves showed a high mortality rate among patients with tigecycline-related coagulopathy. Conclusion: This nomogram exhibited helpful clinical value in predicting tigecycline-related coagulopathy that could reduce the high mortality rate of patients prescribed with tigecycline.

BACKGROUND: Peanut allergy (PA) has become a clinical and public health problem, which is mainly regulated by genetics, immune responses, and environmental factors. Diagnosis and treatment for PA have always remained huge challenges due to its multiple triggers. Studies have shown that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play a critical role in the development of allergic diseases. METHOD AND RESULTS: In the current study, we examined the plasma lncRNA expression profiles of peanut allergy Brown Norway rats and healthy controls and 496 differently expressed lncRNAs were identified, including 411 up-regulated genes and 85 down-regulated genes. We screened 8 lncRNAs based on the candidate principle and the candidates were verified in individual samples by quantitative real-time PCR. Then, the four lncRNA-based diagnostic model was established by least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and logistic regression, which was proved by area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). CONCLUSIONS: In summary, we assessed the correlation between lncRNA expression levels and the diagnosis of peanut allergy, which may perform a vital role in guiding the management of peanut allergy.

Food allergies (FA), a major public health problem recognized by the World Health Organization, affect an estimated 3%-10% of adults and 8% of children worldwide. However, effective treatments for FA are still lacking. Recent advances in glycoimmunology have demonstrated the great potential of sialic acids (SAs) in the treatment of FA. SAs are a group of nine-carbon α-ketoacids usually linked to glycoproteins and glycolipids as terminal glycans. They play an essential role in modulating immune responses and may be an effective target for FA intervention. As exogenous food components, sialylated polysaccharides have anti-FA effects. In contrast, as endogenous components, SAs on immunoglobulin E and immune cell surfaces contribute to the pathogenesis of FA. Given the lack of comprehensive information on the effects of SAs on FA, we reviewed the roles of endogenous and exogenous SAs in the pathogenesis and treatment of FA. In addition, we considered the structure-function relationship of SAs to provide a theoretical basis for the development of SA-based FA treatments.

ABSTRACT

In this study, we investigated the dynamics of microbial community and flavor metabolites during the traditional fermentation of Hongqu aromatic vinegar (HAV) and subsequently explored the potential relationship between microbiota and flavor metabolites. The microbiome analysis based on high-throughput sequencing (HTS) of amplicons demonstrated that Lactobacillus, Acetobacter and Clostridium were the dominant bacterial genera, while Alternaria, Candida, Aspergillus and Issatchenkia were the dominant fungal genera during the acetic acid fermentation (AAF) of HAV. A total of 101 volatile flavor compounds were identified through gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) during HAV fermentation, including esters (35), alcohols (17), aldehydes (11), acids (11), ketones (7), phenols (10), and others (10). Redundancy analysis (RDA) was used to reveal the correlation between microbiota and volatile flavor compounds. Lactobacillus and Acetobacter were the two bacterial genera that have the great influence on the production of volatile flavor components in HAV. Among them, Lactobacillus was positively correlated with a variety of ethyl esters, while Acetobacter positively contributed to the formation of several organic acids. Furthermore, the non-volatile metabolites were detected by ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography with quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-QTOF/MS). A total of 41 dipeptides were identified during HAV fermentation, and most of them may have sensory characteristics and biological activities. RDA showed that Aspergillus, Epicoccum, Issatchenkia, Candida and Malassezia were the most influential fungal genera on non-volatile metabolites. In particular, Epicoccum was first reported in Hongqu vinegar and showed a positive correlation with the production of various organic acids. In conclusion, this study provides a scientific basis for understanding the flavor generation mechanism of HAV, and may be valuable for developing effective techniques to select suitable strains to improve the flavor quality of HAV.

ABSTRACT

AIMS: As an essential indicator of allergic reactions, mast cell (MC) activation involves FcεRI-mediated signaling and the release of allergic mediators. In FcεRI signaling, Ca2+ is located at the intersection of multiple cellular signaling pathways. However, the effect of extracellular Ca2+ (exCa2+) on MCs during anaphylaxis remains unclear, along with its exact mechanisms. Therefore, we sought to determine whether and how elevated exCa2+ amplifies allergic reactions. MAIN METHODS: In vitro experiments used immunoglobulin E (IgE)/antigen (Ag)-induced activation of rat and mouse MCs in vitro. The levels of MC degranulation mediators were used to evaluate the effect of exCa2+. In vivo experiments used MC-mediated passive systemic anaphylaxis (PCA) Balb/c mice. After stimulation, anaphylaxis indexes such as rectal temperature and allergic symptom score were detected. KEY FINDINGS: In vitro experiments revealed that exCa2+ is a stimulus signal for the aggravation of allergic reactions in MCs. When antagonists or siRNA inhibited GPRC6, MCs released fewer inflammatory mediators. Moreover, in vivo experiments confirmed in vitro results. Allergic symptoms were alleviated by antagonists NPS2143 in PCA mice, demonstrating that exCa2+ aggravates allergic reactions through GPRC6A. SIGNIFICANCE: Our study provides an essential theoretical basis for targeting Ca2+ and GPRC6A as therapeutic options for allergies.

What is added by this report?: By searching the English databases PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Chinese databases CNKI, Wanfang Data, and VIP Chinese epidemiological studies on food allergy, the probability of food allergy in China and related influencing factors were determined. What are the implications for public health practice?: The findings of this study provide up-to-date estimates of the prevalence of food allergy rates in China in terms of age, gender, and the eight major food allergens.

ABSTRACT

In order to evaluate the influence of freeze-thaw action on the durability of concrete structures, this paper presented an experimental study to investigate the effects of freezing-thawing cycles and concrete strength on the bond behavior between steel bars and concrete confined with stirrups. Through freeze-thaw cycles and center pullout tests, the failure mode of pullout specimen, concrete strength, mass loss, dynamic elastic modulus, and bond-slip curves were analyzed. At last, the bond-slip constitutive model was proposed for specimens with stirrup confinement under freeze-thaw action. Main test results indicate that the failure mode and shape of bond-slip curves are affected by stirrups. The bond strength hasa certain increase after 100 freeze-thaw cycles owing to the constraining force from stirrups, whereas the splitting tensile strength significantly declines. After 100 freeze-thaw cycles, the splitting tensile strength of C20 and C40 decreased by 40.8% and 46.5%, respectively. The formula was provided to calculate the bond strength of constrained concrete after freeze-thaw cycles, and the damage coefficient and other related parameters in the formula were suggested. The predicted bond-slip curves are close to the experimental results, which could provide reference for the related research of bond performance after freeze-thaw action.
