ABSTRACT

AIM: To compare the stress distribution of four modalities of reinforcing the radicular space of a pulpless central incisor exhibiting stage 4 root development. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The model of a pulpless immature central incisor with a stage 4 of root development supporting periodontium was generated based on the properties. The longitudinal growth of the root was completed. Four such models were developed. Then, the radicular space was rehabilitated as follows: Model 1: Ceramicrete; Model 2: Biomimetic Mineralization; Model 3: Biodentine; Model 4: Bioaggregate. They were subjected to three different loading conditions. One was to mimic the mastication by applying a load of 70 N applied at 45° angle. Second loading condition was a vertical load of 100 N to mimic bruxism. The third loading condition was to mirror the impact of a frontal trauma. A load of 100 N was applied labially. RESULTS: It was observed that during mastication, Model 2 has exhibited the lowest concentration of von Mises stresses, followed by Model 3 and then Model 4 followed by Model 1; this could be because the modulus of elasticity of Model 2 is comparable to that of Dentin. During bruxism and horizontal impact, the maximal stress concentration was found in Model 4, Model 3, Model 2, followed by Model 1. CONCLUSION: The closer the elasticity of modulus of the primary endodontic replacement monoblock was to that of dentin, the lower were the stresses generated. However, as the increase in stress values was minimal between groups, these obturating materials can be viable reinforcement materials for the rehabilitation of cases of stage 4 developing root. Biomimetic mineralization strategies can be a viable treatment option for managing cases of the open apex. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Biomimetic mineralization strategies and bioceramics can be used for obturation of root canals with open apex, instead of utilizing these bioceramics as apical plugs.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: The study was conceived to formulate a tool to evaluate child perceptions related to oral health in 11- to 14-year-olds tailor-made for Indian children in Hindi. The original child perceptions questionnaire (CPQ11-14) was translated into Hindi and it was tested for validity and reliability. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The original CPQ11-14 was translated into Hindi and some questions were rephrased to suit the sociocultural situation in India. The domains of self-esteem and psychological well-being were added to the questionnaire to broaden the scope of parameters to thoroughly assess the impact on child perceptions toward oral health. The English and Hindi versions of the CPQ11-14 were administered during the first visit to test for validity and the children were recalled after 1 week and administered the Hindi questionnaire again after 1 week to check for reliability. RESULTS: The results showed significant positive correlation between oral symptoms, decayed, missing and filled teeth (DMFT) functional limitation and malocclusion. The mean functional limitation score was found to be higher in subjects with malocclusion in both the English and Hindi questionnaires. The test-retest samples were evaluated using the paired t-test and showed no significant difference between the first and second administration which suggested good reliability. CONCLUSION: The translated and modified Hindi CPQ11-14 was found to be valid and highly reliable for use in India. The adaptation of the original questionnaire by modifying certain questions to suit the Indian condition was found to be culturally relevant.How to cite this article: Kumar P, Mandanna DCM, Londhe SM, Sharma M. ABSTRACT

Surgery-first approach (SFA) has been a paradigm shift in the field of orthognathic surgery. Majority of the published cases that have been managed by this approach are of skeletal class III. This communication describes a patient of 18-year-old male diagnosed with skeletal class II malocclusion due to mandibular retognathism. He was managed with SFA and was using skeletal anchorage system to prevent postsurgical relapse. Bilateral saggital split ramus osteotomy was carried out to achieve the mandibular advancement of 7 mm. Using this approach good esthetic result, functional occlusion was achieved. Patients were benefited with marked improvement in profile at a very early stage of treatment and shorter total treatment time of about 7 months.
