ABSTRACT

Giant coronary aneurysm with ventricular fistula is rare. Due to the limited data from randomised clinical trials, therapeutic strategies for coronary aneurysms predominantly rely on on case series and anecdotal evidences. Reporting cases that provide practical experience in managing these aneurysms is therefore crucial. In this article, we report a rare case of a successful surgical management for a thrombosed giant left coronary aneurysm with right ventricular fistula, which is larger than any previously reported cases.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: The purpose was to analyze the effects of three sterilization methods (dry heat sterilization, steam sterilization, and chemical sterilization) on the corrosion of dental fissure bur. METHODS: 200 dental fissure burs were distributed to 10 groups. Bending strength, elastic modulus, and torsional strength were measured by bending and torsional instrument and calculated with special designed software. Among the three sterilization methods, the steam sterilization group showed the most evident. RESULTS: The corrosion was most severe in steam sterilization group, followed by chemical sterilization, dry heat sterilization. With the sterilization time increased, bending strength, elastic modulus, and torsional strength decreased respectively. Of the three sterilization methods, the mechanical properties were decreased most evidently by steam sterilization, followed by chemical sterilization and dry heat sterilization. CONCLUSION: It is proved that the bending strength, elastic modulus and torsional strength have a tight relationship with the corrosion of dental fissure burs. The corrosion was most severe in steam sterilization group, followed by chemical sterilization, dry heat sterilization. In regards of the corrosive effect, the dry heat sterilization might be the best way to sterilize the dental fissure burs.

ABSTRACT

The objective of this study was to develop new nanofiltration (NF) membranes capable of providing significantly greater water permeability and higher rejection of water contaminants compared to state-of-the-art NF membranes. The active layer of the new NF membranes is prepared with rigid star amphiphiles (RSAs) synthesized as part of this study. Performance characterization for a first generation of RSA membranes in a bench-scale apparatus reveals that most of the new membranes provide water permeability of 1.3-3.1 times that of two commercial NF membranes with polyamide active layers while providing comparable rejection of the organic contaminant surrogate Rhodamine WT. However, the rejection of arsenious acid (H3AsO3) by most new NF membranes was found to be lower than that by the two commercial NF membranes tested. Future research efforts of this study will focus on exploring if H3AsO3 rejection could be significantly increased, without negatively affecting water permeability and organic contaminant rejection, by addition of various chemical groups to RSA hydrophobic cores and hydrophilic branches, and by RSA cross-linking.

ABSTRACT

Intramolecular ring closing alkyne metathesis afforded the graphyne biscyclyne (3) in high macrocyclization yield and good overall yield. This methodology also furnished the tris[12]cyclyne 4, which contains the longest linear diphenylacetylene conjugation pathway for any graphyne substructure based on the tribenzo[12]cyclyne core.
