ABSTRACT

The present study aimed to characterize the sport fishing that occurs in the middle Negro River region. The data collection was carried out with the application of semi-structured questionnaires to sport fishing operators and sport fishers. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. A total of 142 questionnaires was applied. The results obtained from the questionnaires indicated that most of the operators are male (97.62%), whose ages ranging from 24 to 57 years old (44.09 ± 10.14 years old). The average duration of the season was six months, during which the companies operate in five different types of fishing tourism. The boat-hotel is the most adopted form of accommodation by operators, as well as being the oldest. Transport for the fishing trips is carried out in a greater quantity with semi-flat-nosed boats equipped with a 30-hp engine. Fishing operations are carried out depending on the type of operation, and trips last for seven days, with six fishing days. Twenty-two rivers were identified as being used for catche of Cichla temensis as the target species, and the main channel, the Aracá, Demeni and Cuiuni Rivers, was the most used.

ABSTRACT

Sport fishing has ecological, economic, and social importance, but there are few studies that characterize it according to the sustainability tripod. Due to this gap, we present a systematic review of the literature to evaluate the current situation of sport fishing in Brazil. The papers on the subject were systematically evaluated based on quantitative criteria. Additionally, in order to create a list of the species of interest of sport fishers, the survey of 22 papers was carried out regarding the species caught. A total of 70 complete papers published between 1994 and 2021 were included in the study. Since the 1990s, publications have increased quantitatively, with most studies coming from the South-Eastern region of Brazil (39.19%). The papers published discussed, in the majority, the sport fishing carried out in marine environment (55.38%), and the focus was "fishing and fishers" (30%). Evaluating the sustainability tripod, most of the papers provided only information regarding the ecological aspect (58.57%). About 330 species of marine and freshwater fish of interest to sport fishers were dealt with in the studies. This information reflects the current state of knowledge about Brazilian sport fishing, and it can serve as a basis for the management of the activity and the target species used by fishers. Additionally, the present review can serve as an aid for future research on this topic.(AU)

ABSTRACT

The present study describes the length-weight relationship of four species of ornamental fish caught on the banks of Tupé lake in lower Rio Negro, Amazonas state, Brazil in the months of September and December 2017, and February, March, and April 2018 with the aid of gillnets (20 m x 2 m, with 5 mm between knots), and landing nets, which were used specifically for collections close to the trunks. Acarichthys heckelii (b= 2.9444) and Nannostomus unifasciatus (b=3.0887) were the only species to show isometric growth, while Pseudoloricaria laeviuscula (b=3.273) showed positive allometric growth and Hemigrammus levis (b=2.5216) presented negative allometric growth. All length-weight-relationships presented herein are recorded for the first time from the Rio Negro basin.(AU)
