ABSTRACT

Highly uniform and c-axis-aligned ZnO nanorod arrays were fabricated in predefined patterns by a low temperature homoepitaxial aqueous chemical method. The nucleation seed patterns were realized in polymer and in metal thin films, resulting in, all-ZnO and bottom-contacted structures, respectively. Both of them show excellent geometrical uniformity: the cross-sectional uniformity according to the scanning electron micrographs across the array is lower than 2%. The diameter of the hexagonal prism-shaped nanorods can be set in the range of 90-170 nm while their typical length achievable is 0.5-2.3 mum. The effect of the surface polarity was also examined, however, no significant difference was found between the arrays grown on Zn-terminated and on O-terminated face of the ZnO single crystal. The transmission electron microscopy observation revealed the single crystalline nature of the nanorods. The current-voltage characteristics taken on an individual nanorod contacted by a Au-coated atomic force microscope tip reflected Schottky-type behavior. The geometrical uniformity, the designable pattern, and the electrical properties make the presented nanorod arrays ideal candidates to be used in ZnO-based DC nanogenerator and in next-generation integrated piezoelectric nano-electromechanical systems (NEMS).

ABSTRACT

The consideration of the correct diagnosis and prognosis in acute coronary syndrome seems to be a great challenge for cardiologists. Measuring of the serum cardiac Troponin (cTI) level may help solution of this problem. According to the authors the myocardial infarction has been revealed with a great sensitivity and specificity by the cTI level (100%). Authors found a higher level of cTI even after 72 hours of the onset of symptoms of myocardial infarction. After thrombolysis the wash out phenomen was more expressive compared with the values of CK-MB enzymes. A moderate but significant increase was observed of the cTI level in unstable angina. The measuring of cTI in acute coronary syndrome gives an important information to the correct diagnosis. The prognostic considerations of cTI level in unstable angina are interpreted by authors according to relevant data of literature.

ABSTRACT

Paxirasol aerosol applied in daily 3 x 5 puff doses in the treatment of silicosis patients is found to be a well tolerated drug form. In the course of the 21-day therapy especially coughing and chest pain were moderated, but the product also controlled, the catarrhal coat formation on the mucosa. It influenced abundant expectoration and dispnoea beneficially. During the therapy the laboratory parameters did not change. The objective respiratory parameters improved but the change was non-significant. Paxirasol aerosol is found useful in the treatment of chronic bronchitis accompanying silicosis. Evaluable side-effects were not registered.

ABSTRACT

An inquest to determine the degree of knowledge they have, was done among 27 physicians (obstetricians-gynecologist), 36 midwives and 47 assistants of infirmary in a maternity of Santiago. The following items where included: definition of concept, general knowledge, ways of transmission, prevention and treatment, communication and educational means, recommendations, comments, suggestions and specific knowledge. We proved that even though the general knowledge is apparently good for physicians, midwives and assistants of infirmary, they don't have adequate knowledge of the mechanisms of transmission of AIDS, of its prevention and no specific knowledge. They do have wrong ideas upon the topic. This lack is evident in assistants of infirmary and in a less degree in midwives and physicians. Considering that the group to be studied works in the specific health area dealing with gynecology and obstetrics, it is expected that they have a high grade of knowledge in relation with AIDS, due to the fact that they are a group of high risk in getting the disease and that they are a multiplicator factor of education among the population. This makes necessary to give periodic training courses and to reinforce the knowledge of such personnel.

ABSTRACT

Sebaceous gland activity in the newborn and children is extensive at first in the epidermis, and later decreases owing to defective operation of the sweat glands, circulation changes, growth of the hair, and a predisposition to infection, for which significant treatment is required. In addition to the genetic "typus neurodermiticus", pharmaceutical, alimentary and respiratory allergens and psychological factors may play a part in the appearance of atopical dermatitis. Onset is usually in the 2nd to 6th month and the side of the face and the scalp are affected. The clinical picture varies considerably with age and includes sanious foci covered with scabs on the head and eczema flexurarum. Differences in family history, age and the location of sites will distinguish this form from seborrhoeic dermatitis. Gluteal dermitis is secondary to congestion caused by dampness, rugging and soaking, and the action of stools and urine (bacterial amniogenesis). The main complications of neonatal and infantile impetigo are: glomerulonephritis, exfoliative dermatitis, pulmonary abscess, pulmonitis and osteomyelitis; phlyctenular, serpiginous impetigo with large and small bullae is particularly important. Treatment of neonatal and infantile dermatosis must take account of the fact that increased reabsorption and congestion are contraindications for the local application of corticoids and preparations containing salicylic and boric acid.
