ABSTRACT

Within the framework of studies of pharmacotherapy of the diseases of the muscular and skeletal system, the paper aimed to analyze the pharmacotherapy of osteoporosis. The significance of the problems in the field of research of epidemiology of osteoporosis requires the use of all available methods. With regard to the fact that the epidemiological situation in osteoporosis is also reflected in the consumption of drugs, the paper aimed to contribute to the solution of the problem by means of an analysis of the pharmacotherapy of osteoporosis. The results of the analysis have confirmed the relationship between the prevalence of the disease of osteoporosis and drug consumption. The paper demonstrated an increase in the total consumption of drugs prescribed for osteoporosis in 1998 and 1999 in comparison with 1997 as well as an increase in the consumption according to the age and sex. A statistically significant difference was recorded in the consumption of drugs prescribed for osteoporosis with regard to women. The analysis showed changes in the assortment of prescribed drugs as well as changes in the management of the therapy of osteoporosis.

ABSTRACT

The analysis of medical prescriptions has revealed that 96% of mass-produced pharmaceutical preparations are prescribed for chronic ischaemic heart disease, mainly by physicians in the field of general medicine. The assortment of prescribed drugs in the ATC classification is represented by 73% of drugs for the cardiovascular system with the dominant position of nitrates, above all the preparation Nitro-Mack retard 2.5 mg cps. The dependence of the consumption of drugs for the treatment of the ischaemic heart disease on the age has a parabolic course in both sexes, while in the productive age area males show higher consumption per one person.

ABSTRACT

The present paper aims at an analysis of the consumption of antibiotics in relation to age, sex and diagnosis in the district of Bratislava-vidiek. The prescription of 17 primary out-patient care physicians was evaluated. The set under study included 17,771 inhabitants divided into 10 age categories. Drug consumption was expressed by the number of packages per 1000 inhabitants and a month. The processed data were statistically evaluated. The results of the paper showed a higher consumption in women. Within the framework of the age categories under study, the consumption of antibiotics does not increase with age. The highest consumption of antibiotics, 70.45%, was found in the diseases of the respiratory system, the consumption in acute diseases being 60.46%. Tetracycline and penicillin antibiotics are the most frequently used preparations in the population under study.
