ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Right ventricular-pulmonary artery coupling (RVPAC) refers to the relationship between right ventricular systolic force and afterload. The ratio of echocardiograph-derived tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE) to pulmonary artery systolic pressure (PASP) has been proposed as a noninvasive measurement of RVPAC and reported as an independent prognostic parameter of heart failure. However, it has not been adequately in detail evaluated in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). We hypothesized that RVPAC may be used and proposed as an expression of key risk factors in patients with HFpEF. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed TAPSE/PASP of 648 HFpEF patients hospitalized in Chongqing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 1, 2016 to January 1, 2017. All eligible patients were followed up for 5 years. The correlation between TAPSE/SPAP index and clinical indicators and outcomes was evaluated. RESULTS: The final analysis included 414 patients. Nonsurvivors had significantly lower TAPSE, TAPSE/PASP and higher PASP compared with survivors (p < 0.0001). ROC curve analysis showed that the optimal cutoff of TAPSE, PASP, and RVPAC to predict all-cause death were 16.5 mm, 37.5 mmHg, and 0.45 mm/mmHg, respectively. In multivariate Cox regression analyses adjusted for gender showed a significant, independent association of the RVPAC with the composite endpoint of all-cause death or HF-related recurrent hospitalization (HR: 0.006; 95% CI 0.001-0.057, p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: RVPAC, defined by the ratio of TAPSE to PASP, is the expression of a key risk factor in HFpEF patients, which is independently associated with the composite endpoint of all-cause death or HF-related recurrent hospitalization.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To screen interleukin (IL)-1ß secretion-related membrane transporters by macrophage experiment in vitro and conventional knockout mice. METHODS: THP-1 cell line was differentiated to obtain human THP-1-derived macrophages, and the primary macrophages were obtained from human peripheral blood. FVB wild-type mice with the same sex and age were used as the controls of MRP1 knockout mice. The macrophages in abdominal cavity and bone marrow of mice were cultivated. The cells were treated with ABCC1/MRP1, ABCG2/BCRP, ABCB1/P-gp, OATP1B1, and MATE transporter inhibitors, then stimulated by lipopolysaccharide and adenosine triphosphate. The secretion level of IL-1ß was detected by ELISA, Western blot, and immunofluorescence. RESULTS: After inhibiting ABCC1/MRP1 transporter, the secretion of IL-1ß decreased significantly, while inhibition of the other 4 transporters had no effect. In animal experiment, the level of IL-1ß secreted by macrophages in bone marrow of MRP1 knockout mice was significantly lower than control group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: ABCC1/MRP1 transporter is a newly discovered IL-1ß secretion pathway, which is expected to become a new target for solving clinical problems such as cytokine release syndrome.

ABSTRACT

Floral patterns are unique to rice and contribute significantly to its reproductive success. SL1 encodes a C2H2 transcription factor that plays a critical role in flower development in rice, but the molecular mechanism regulated by it remains poorly understood. Here, we describe interactions of the SL1 with floral homeotic genes, SPW1, and DL in specifying floral organ identities and floral meristem fate. First, the sl1 spw1 double mutant exhibited a stamen-to-pistil transition similar to that of sl1, spw1, suggesting that SL1 and SPW1 may located in the same pathway regulating stamen development. Expression analysis revealed that SL1 is located upstream of SPW1 to maintain its high level of expression and that SPW1, in turn, activates the B-class genes OsMADS2 and OsMADS4 to suppress DL expression indirectly. Secondly, sl1 dl displayed a severe loss of floral meristem determinacy and produced amorphous tissues in the third/fourth whorl. Expression analysis revealed that the meristem identity gene OSH1 was ectopically expressed in sl1 dl in the fourth whorl, suggesting that SL1 and DL synergistically terminate the floral meristem fate. Another meristem identity gene, FON1, was significantly decreased in expression in sl1 background mutants, suggesting that SL1 may directly activate its expression to regulate floral meristem fate. Finally, molecular evidence supported the direct genomic binding of SL1 to SPW1 and FON1 and the subsequent activation of their expression. In conclusion, we present a model to illustrate the roles of SL1, SPW1, and DL in floral organ specification and regulation of floral meristem fate in rice.

ABSTRACT

The hygiene hypothesis proposes that decreased exposure to infectious agents in developed countries may contribute to the development of allergic and autoimmune diseases. Trichinella spiralis, a parasitic roundworm, causes trichinellosis, also known as trichinosis, in humans. T. spiralis had many hosts, and almost any mammal could become infected. Adult worms lived in the small intestine, while the larvae lived in muscle cells of the same mammal. T. spiralis was a significant public health threat because it could cause severe illness and even death in humans who eat undercooked or raw meat containing the parasite. The complex interactions between gastrointestinal helminths, gut microbiota, and the host immune system present a challenge for researchers. Two groups of mice were infected with T. spiralis vs uninfected control, and the experiment was conducted over 60 days. The 16S rRNA gene sequences and untargeted LC/MS-based metabolomics of fecal and serum samples, respectively, from different stages of development of the Trichinella spiralis-mouse model, were examined in this study. Gut microbiota alterations and metabolic activity accompanied by parasite-induced immunomodulation were detected. The inflammation parameters of the duodenum (villus/crypt ratio, goblet cell number and size, and histological score) were involved in active inflammation and oxidative metabolite profiles. These profiles included increased biosynthesis of phenylalanine, tyrosine, and tryptophan while decreasing cholesterol metabolism and primary and secondary bile acid biosynthesis. These disrupted metabolisms adapted to infection stress during the enteral and parenteral phases and then return to homeostasis during the encapsulated phase. There was a shift from an abundance of Bacteroides in the parenteral phase to an abundance of probiotic Lactobacillus and Treg-associated-Clostridia in the encapsulated phase. Th2 immune response (IL-4/IL-5/IL-13), lamina propria Treg, and immune hyporesponsiveness metabolic pathways (decreased tropane, piperidine and pyridine alkaloid biosynthesis and biosynthesis of alkaloids derived from ornithine, lysine, and nicotinic acid) were all altered. These findings enhanced our understanding of gut microbiota and metabolic profiles of Trichinella -infected mice, which could be a driving force in parasite-shaping immune system maintenance.

ABSTRACT

NH2-UiO-66(Ti) and NH2-MIL-125(Ti) were successfully prepared by using post-synthesis exchange (PSE) and hydrothermal methods, and then these frameworks were tested for photocatalytic hydrogen peroxide production in pure water under visible light. NH2-MIL-125(Ti) exhibits superior activity compared to NH2-UiO-66(Ti) due to its shorter Ti-O bond. In addition, NH2-MIL-125-D (defective) demonstrates a high photocatalytic yield of hydrogen peroxide owing to the presence of defect-rich titanium rich sites.

The synthesis of stereo-defined α-trifluoromethyl arylenes is of great importance in medical chemistry, organic chemistry, and materials science. However, despite the recent advances, the Z-selective formation of α-trifluoromethyl arylenes has remained underdeveloped. Here, we describe a facile approach towards Z-α-trifluoromethyl arylenes through Pd-catalysed stereoselective fluoroarylation of 1,1-difluoroallenes in the presence of a bulky monophosphine ligand.

ABSTRACT

To monitor objects of interest, such as wildlife and people, image-capturing devices are used to collect a large number of images with and without objects of interest. As we are recording valuable information about the behavior and activity of objects, the quality of images containing objects of interest should be better than that of images without objects of interest, even if the former exhibits more severe distortion than the latter. However, according to current methods, quality assessments produce the opposite results. In this study, we propose an end-to-end model, named DETR-IQA (detection transformer image quality assessment), which extends the capability to perform object detection and blind image quality assessment (IQA) simultaneously by adding IQA heads comprising simple multi-layer perceptrons at the top of the DETRs (detection transformers) decoder. Using IQA heads, DETR-IQA carried out blind IQAs based on the weighted fusion of the distortion degree of the region of objects of interest and the other regions of the image; the predicted quality score of images containing objects of interest was generally greater than that of images without objects of interest. Currently, the subjective quality score of all public datasets is in accordance with the distortion of images and does not consider objects of interest. We manually extracted the images in which the five predefined classes of objects were the main contents of the largest authentic distortion dataset, KonIQ-10k, which was used as the experimental dataset. The experimental results show that with slight degradation in object detection performance and simple IQA heads, the values of PLCC and SRCC were 0.785 and 0.727, respectively, and exceeded those of some deep learning-based IQA models that are specially designed for only performing IQA. With the negligible increase in the computation and complexity of object detection and without a decrease in inference speeds, DETR-IQA can perform object detection and IQA via multi-tasking and substantially reduce the workload.

ABSTRACT

Automatic electroencephalogram (EEG) emotion recognition is a challenging component of human-computer interaction (HCI). Inspired by the powerful feature learning ability of recently-emerged deep learning techniques, various advanced deep learning models have been employed increasingly to learn high-level feature representations for EEG emotion recognition. This paper aims to provide an up-to-date and comprehensive survey of EEG emotion recognition, especially for various deep learning techniques in this area. We provide the preliminaries and basic knowledge in the literature. We review EEG emotion recognition benchmark data sets briefly. We review deep learning techniques in details, including deep belief networks, convolutional neural networks, and recurrent neural networks. We describe the state-of-the-art applications of deep learning techniques for EEG emotion recognition in detail. We analyze the challenges and opportunities in this field and point out its future directions.

ABSTRACT

The development of efficient heterojunctions with enhanced photocatalytic properties is considered a promising approach for photocatalytic hydrogen production. In this study, graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4)-wrapped nickel-doped zinc oxide/carbon (Ni-ZnO@C/g-C3N4) core-double shell heterojunctions with unique core-double shell structures were employed as efficient photocatalysts through an innovative approach. Ni doping can enhance the intensity and range of visible light absorption in ZnO, and the carbon core coupled with the hollow double-shell structure can accelerate the charge transfer rate and improve the photon utilization efficiency. Meanwhile, the construction of the Z-scheme heterojunction extended the electron-hole pair transport path. In addition, the Z-scheme charge-transfer mechanism of Ni-ZnO@C/g-C3N4 under simulated sunlight was verified by photoluminescence (PL) and electron spin resonance (ESR) experiments. As a result, the obtained photocatalyst acquired a high hydrogen evolution rate of 336.08 µmol g-1h-1, which is 36.49 times higher than that of pristine ZnO. Overall, this work may provide a pathway for the construction of highly efficient photocatalysts with unique core-double shell structures.

ABSTRACT

Objectives: To quantify the burden and variation trends of cancers in children under 5 years at the global, regional, and national levels from 1990 to 2019. Methods: Epidemiological data for children under 5 years who were diagnosed with any one childhood cancer were obtained from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) from 1990 to 2019. The outcomes were the absolute numbers and rates of incidence, prevalence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) for different types of cancer. Results: In 2019, 8,774,979.1 incident cases (95% uncertainty interval [UI]: 6,243,599.2 to11,737,568.5) and 8,956,583.8 (6,446,323.9 to 12,364,520.8) prevalent cases of cancer in children under 5 years were identified worldwide; these cancers resulted in 44,451.6 (36,198.7 to 53,905.9) deaths and 3,918,014.8 (3,196,454.9 to 4,751,304.2) DALYs. From 1990 to 2019, although the numbers of incident and prevalent cases only decreased by -4.6% (-7.0 to -2.2) and -8.3% (-12.6 to -3.4), respectively, the numbers of deaths and DALYs clearly declined by -47.8% (-60.7 to -26.4) and -47.7% (-60.7 to -26.2), respectively. In 2019, the middle sociodemographic index (SDI) regions had the highest incidence and prevalence, whereas the low SDI regions had the most mortality and DALYs. Although all of the SDI regions displayed a steady drop in deaths and DALYs between 1990 and 2019, the low-middle and low SDI regions showed increasing trends of incidence and prevalence. Leukemia remained the most common cancer globally in 2019. From 1990 to 2019, the burdens of leukemia, liver cancer, and Hodgkin's lymphoma declined, whereas the incidence and prevalence of other cancers grew, particularly testicular cancer. Conclusions: The global childhood cancer burden in young children has been steadily decreasing over the past three decades. However, the burdens and other characteristics have varied across different regions and types of cancers. This highlights the need to reorient current treatment strategies and establish effective prevention methods to reduce the global burden of childhood cancer.

BACKGROUND: The clinical role of perioperative respiratory muscle training (RMT), including inspiratory muscle training (IMT) and expiratory muscle training (EMT) in patients undergoing pulmonary surgery remains unclear up to now. AIM: To evaluate whether perioperative RMT is effective in improving postoperative outcomes such as the respiratory muscle strength and physical activity level of patients receiving lung surgery. METHODS: The PubMed, EMBASE (via OVID), Web of Science, Cochrane Library and Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) were systematically searched to obtain eligible randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Primary outcome was postoperative respiratory muscle strength expressed as the maximal inspiratory pressure (MIP) and maximal expiratory pressure (MEP). Secondary outcomes were physical activity, exercise capacity, including the 6-min walking distance and peak oxygen consumption during the cardio-pulmonary exercise test, pulmonary function and the quality of life. RESULTS: Seven studies involving 240 participants were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis. Among them, four studies focused on IMT and the other three studies focused on RMT, one of which included IMT, EMT and also combined RMT (IMT-EMT-RMT). Three studies applied the intervention postoperative, one study preoperative and the other three studies included both pre- and postoperative training. For primary outcomes, the pooled results indicated that perioperative RMT improved the postoperative MIP (mean = 8.13 cmH2O, 95%CI: 1.31 to 14.95, P = 0.02) and tended to increase MEP (mean = 13.51 cmH2O, 95%CI: -4.47 to 31.48, P = 0.14). For secondary outcomes, perioperative RMT enhanced postoperative physical activity significantly (P = 0.006) and a trend of improved postoperative pulmonary function was observed. CONCLUSION: Perioperative RMT enhanced postoperative respiratory muscle strength and physical activity level of patients receiving lung surgery. However, RCTs with large samples are needed to evaluate effects of perioperative RMT on postoperative outcomes in patients undergoing lung surgery.

ABSTRACT

Objectives: To investigate the incidence of postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) and short-term recovery after transcatheter tricuspid valve implantation (TTVI). Methods: A total of 17 patients diagnosed with severe tricuspid regurgitation who received a LuX-valve TTVI were included in this study. Spirometry lung function, maximal inspiratory pressure (MIP), and 6-min walk test distance (6MWD) were recorded. Prior to surgery, patients were stratified into high or low pulmonary risk groups based on published predefined criteria. A physiotherapist provided all patients with education on thoracic expansion exercises, effective cough and an inspiratory muscle training protocol at 50% of MIP for 3 days preoperatively. All patients received standard post-operative physiotherapy intervention including positioning, thoracic expansion exercises, secretion removal techniques and mobilization. Patients were assessed for PPCs as defined by the Melbourne-Group Score-version 2. Clinical characteristics and hospital stay, cost, functional capacity, and Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire (KCCQ) heart failure score were recorded at admission, 1-week, and 30-days post-op. Results: The mean (SD) age of the 17 patients was 68.4 (8.0) years and 15 (88%) were female. Pre-surgical assessment identified 8 patients (47%) at high risk of PPCs. A total of 9 patients (53%) developed PPCs between the 1st and 3rd day post-surgery, and 7 of these 9 patients were amongst the 8 predicted as "high risk" prior to surgery. One patient died before the 30 day follow up. Pre-operative pulmonary risk assessment score, diabetes mellitus, a low baseline MIP and 6MWD were associated with a high incidence of PPCs. Compared to those without PPCs, patients with PPCs had longer ICU and hospital stay, and higher hospitalization cost. At 30 days post-surgery, patients without PPCs maintained higher MIP and 6MWD compared to those with PPCs, but there were no significant between-group differences in other lung function parameters nor KCCQ. Conclusion: This is the first study to report the incidence of PPCs post TTVI. Despite a 3-day prehabilitation protocol and standard post-operative physiotherapy, PPCs were common among patients after TTVI and significantly impacted on hospital and short-term recovery and outcomes. In the majority of patients, PPCs could be accurately predicted before surgery. A comprehensive prehabilitation program should be considered for patients prior to TTVI. T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) is a type of leukemia with high malignant behaviors, which seriously threatens the health of people. It has been reported that circFBXW7 is downregulated in lymphoblastic leukemia. Nevertheless, the exact role of circFBXW7 in T-ALL remains elusive. MTT assay was used to assess the cell viability. Cell apoptosis was assessed by flow cytometry. In addition, mRNA expressions were assessed by RT-qPCR, and a western blot was applied to investigate the protein levels. Meanwhile, the correlation among circFBXW7, miR-494-3p, and SOX1 was explored by RNA pull-down and dual-luciferase reporter assays. Furthermore, a xenograft mice model was conducted to verify the function of circFBXW7 in T-ALL in vivo. CircFBXW7 was significantly downregulated in T-ALL, of which overexpression inhibited the cell viability and induced the apoptosis of Jurkat cells. Moreover, miR-494-3p was identified to be a functional downstream effector to be involved in circFBXW7-mediated T-ALL cell proliferation. Besides, SOX1 was a direct target of miR-494-3p, and the impact of miR-494-3p mimics on T-ALL cell growth was inhibited in the presence of SOX1 overexpression. Furthermore, overexpression of circFBXW7 dramatically inhibited T-ALL tumor growth. In summary, circFBXW7 attenuated the tumorigenesis of T-ALL through the mediation of the miR-494-3p/SOX1 axis, which might be novel targets for T-ALL treatment.

Background: Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a rapidly fatal disease caused by immune dysregulation. Early initiation of treatment is imperative for saving lives. However, a laboratory approach that could be used to quickly evaluate the HLH subtype and clinical situation is lacking. Our previous studies indicated that cytokines such as interferon (IFN)-γ and interleukin (IL)-10 were helpful for the early diagnosis of HLH and were associated with disease severity. The purpose of this study is to clarify the different cytokine patterns of various subtypes of pediatric HLH and to investigate the role of cytokines in a simple evaluation of disease feature. Patients and Methods: We enrolled 256 pediatric patients with newly diagnosed HLH. The clinical features and laboratory findings were collected and compared among different subtypes of HLH. A model integrating cytokines was established to stratify HLH patients into different clinical groups. Results: Twenty-seven patients were diagnosed with primary HLH (pHLH), 179 with EBV-HLH, and 50 with other causes. The IL-6, IL-10, and IFN-γ levels and the ratios of IL-10 to IFN-γ were different among EBV-HLH, other infection-associated HLH, malignancy-associated HLH, familial HLH, and X-linked lymphoproliferative disease. Patients with the ratio of IL-10 to IFN-γ >1.33 and the concentration of IFN-γ ≤225 pg/ml were considered to have pHLH, with a sensitivity of 73% and a specificity of 84%. A four-quadrant model based on the two cutoff values was established to stratify the patients into different clinical situations. The HLH subtypes, cytokine levels, treatment regimens, treatment response, and outcomes were different among the four quadrants, with the 8-week mortality from 2.9 ± 2.9% to 21.4 ± 5.5% and the 5-year overall survival from 93.9 ± 4.2% to 52.6 ± 7.1%. Conclusions: Different subtypes of HLH present distinct cytokine patterns. IFN-γ and the ratio of IL-10 to IFN-γ are helpful tools to differentiate HLH subtypes. A four-quadrant model based on these two parameters is a useful tool for a simple evaluation of the HLH situation.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the 10-year outcomes of cementless total hip arthroplasty (THA) in adult patients with the late sequelae of septic arthritis of the hip. METHODS: We followed 166 consecutive patients (168 hips) who underwent cementless THA between March 2001 and December 2011. There were 79 men and 87 women, with a mean age of 50.4 years (range 21-76 years) at the time of index THA, all of whom had hip osteoarthritis secondary to hip pyogenic infection. The average duration of follow up was 10.6 years (range 6.9-17.2 years). Preoperative and postoperative clinical ratings were evaluated, including the hip dysfunction and osteoarthritis outcome score (HOOS), the Harris hip score (HHS), range of motion, a 100-point visual analog scale for hip pain, and the severity of limp and limb length discrepancy (LLD). The anteroposterior and lateral radiographs of the hip and full-length view of the lower extremities were obtained to assess the position of the components, radiolucent lines, osteolysis, loosening of components, and heterotopic ossification. The intraoperative and postoperative complications were also recorded. RESULTS: The mean HSS and hip pain score were 44.2 points (range 29-66 points) and 42.5 points (range 32-64 points), respectively, before the index surgery and significantly improved to 88.1 points (range 78-96 points) and 15.1 points (range 10-26 points), respectively, at final follow-up examination. The HOOS and range of motion also improved significantly. The mean limb length discrepancy was reduced from 2.6 to 0.8 cm. The limp at last follow-up examination was moderate in 3 cases because of hip osteoarthritis in the other limb, slight in 26, and absent in 137. A radiolucent line was observed in 12 hips (7.1%) around the acetabular or femoral components. A progressive radiolucent line around the undersized femoral stem in all zones was seen in 1 hip, resulting in aseptic loosening and breakage of the femoral component. There were 8 cases of intraoperative fracture, 7 cases of dislocation, and 7 cases of transient nerve palsy. Recurrence of infection occurred in 2 hips. Revision surgery was conducted in 2 hips because of isolated loosening of the acetabular cup and the femoral stem, respectively. Kaplan-Meier survival was 97% at 10 years, with revision for any reason with any component as an end-point. CONCLUSION: Improved surgical techniques and development of components with various sizes provided favorable results for cementless THA conducted for late sequelae of sepsis in these young and active patients. Although the incidence of complications was relatively high, the complications were treated successfully.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To assess if the educational level of patients in Southwestern China will affect the functional recovery after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). METHODS: This retrospective study included a total of 334 patients (48 males, 286 females, with an average age of 68 years, range from 51 to 84 years) who had undergone primary unilateral TKA from March 2017 to April 2018. Patients were screened for enrollment and classified into four groups (illiterate group, the primary school group, high school group, and university group) according to their educational attainment. All patients were monitored for at least 2 years after TKA. The primary outcome was determined using the Hospital for Special Surgery knee (HSS) score at the time of follow-up. The secondary outcomes were determined using the 12-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-12) and Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) scores, the satisfaction level, and complications of the surgery. RESULTS: Three hundred and thirty-four patients were divided into four groups based on their highest educational level: 83 patients in the illiteracy group, 84 in the primary school group, 91 in the high school group, and 76 in the university group. They were followed up for at least 2 years. For the primary outcome, patients with high school and university education had noteworthy better HSS scores on the surgical-side knee than those in the primary school and illiterate groups (illiteracy group 86.71 ± 5.94 vs primary school group 85.36 ± 5.88 vs high school group 89.48 ± 3.66 vs university group 88.95 ± 3.55; P < 0.05). For secondary outcomes, the mental component summary (MCS) in the university group was significantly lower than the other three groups (P < 0.05). The results of WOMAC scores were consistent with the results of the HSS score: patients in the university group and the high school group had better results when compared with the other two groups (P < 0.05). There were no statistical differences in the comparison of additional indicators and complications among the four groups, but more patients (12 peoples, 15.8%) in the university group were dissatisfied with knee function after TKA. CONCLUSION: In Southwest China, patients with high school education or above can achieve better joint function after TKA but do not get better postoperative satisfaction, which may be related to the patients' higher surgical expectations for social and mental needs.

ABSTRACT

Achieving the rapid and accurate detection of pine cones in the natural environment is essential for yield estimation and automatic picking. However, the complex background and tiny target pose a significant challenge to pine cone detection. This paper proposes a pine cone detection method using the improved You Only Look Once (YOLO) version 4 algorithm to overcome these challenges. First, the original pine cone image data come from a natural pine forest. Crawler technology is utilized to collect more pine cone images from the Internet to expand the data set. Second, the densely connected convolution network (DenseNet) structure is introduced in YOLOv4 to improve feature reuse and network performance. In addition, the backbone network is pruned to reduce the computational complexity and keep the output dimension unchanged. Finally, for the problem of feature fusion at different scales, an improved neck network is designed using the scale-equalizing pyramid convolution (SEPC). The experimental results show that the improved YOLOv4 model is better than the original YOLOv4 network; the average values of precision, recall, and AP reach 96.1%, 90.1%, and 95.8%; the calculation amount of the model is reduced by 21.2%; the detection speed is fast enough to meet the real-time requirements. This research could serve as a technical reference for estimating yields and automating the picking of pine cones.
