ABSTRACT

The carried out research of vitamin C status of 250 young people 17-20 years old constantly living in region of the periodic radioactive control of the Gomel region of Republic Byelorussia have shown, that in the spring the vitamin C deficiency is observed at more than 55% examined, and autumn this parameter is reduced approximately on 20%. The vitamin C provision of the women is slightly higher, than one of men. The vitaminization of the population within 1 month by polyvitaminic complexes results in twofold reduction of number examined with vitamin deficiency.

ABSTRACT

A high of easily obtainable cross-bows was pointed out in an experiment. In the same time, an experience from foreign papers was verified that injuries caused by arrows with a head for target shooting can imitate the gun shot injuries. Because of their rate increasing in connection with accesibility of cross-bows these injuries need to be recognized and described more precisely. They are not mentioned in the Czech literature in spite of the fact that there were two recent cases of injuries in attempts of murder.

ABSTRACT

In a group of 40 cerebral contusions with a different period of survival by histological and histochemical methods changes in the contusion foci and their surroundings were assessed. The authors compared their own findings with those of other authors. Their finding of leucostasis and incipient leucodiapedesis was found in cerebral contusions with 7 hours survival. A more marked incidence of leucocytes near the contusion was in cases with a survival of 30 hours. A readily apparent gliomensenchymal reaction near the contusion focus was found in patients who survived the injury for eight days. In the glial elements acid phosphatase and no-specific esterase activity was detected. In contusion of the frontal lobe with a 13-day survival considerable cellulization and increase in the amount of capillaries was found near the contusion focus. In survival of contusion of the frontal lobe for 28 days the glial elements with an acid phosphatase and non-specific esterase activity form a margin round the contusion focus. Even in contusion of the frontal lobe with 5-month survival numerous granular cells were found in the neighbouring area. The results obtained by the authors are not always consistent with those of others. The data of other authors frequently vary too. Therefore it is important to be careful about estimates of the age of cerebral contusions and in particular in cerebral contusions with longer survival the estimate of the age of the injury is only approximate.

ABSTRACT

Reaction at the site of pacemaker electrode was examined at post-mortem by morphological and histological means in a group of 18 deceased patients with pacemakers implanted through the endovasal channels. The changes were classified into 5 basic types depending on their nature and rate of incidence: changes in the endocardium (connective tissue bridging of the electrode, and changes in the tricuspid valve) and in the myocardium (electrode penetration, reaction under the tip of the electrode, and no changes). The particular types occurred either independently of each other, in in mutual combination. Electrode fixation to the endocardium by means of connective-tissue organizing wall thrombi was found in 97% of all the cases examined. There was no unambiguous proof of the duration of pacemakers electrode implantation as being directly dependent on the extent of connective tissue bridging of the electrode. There were exceptional cases of malacia or scars in the myocardium under the tip of the electrode in the normal position of the electrode in patients with myocarditis.
