ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Natural orifice specimen extraction surgery (NOSES) has emerged as a promising alternative compared to conventional laparoscopic-assisted total gastrectomy (LATG) for treating gastric cancer (GC). However, evidence regarding the efficacy and safety of NOSES for GC surgery is limited. This study aimed to compare the safety and feasibility, in addition to postoperative complications of NOSES and LATG. AIM: To discuss the postoperative effects of two different surgical methods in patients with GC. METHODS: Dual circular staplers were used in Roux-en-Y digestive tract reconstruction for transvaginal specimen extraction LATG, and its outcomes were compared with LATG in a cohort of 51 GC patients with tumor size ≤ 5 cm. The study was conducted from May 2018 to September 2020, and patients were categorized into the NOSES group (n = 22) and LATG group (n = 29). Perioperative parameters were compared and analyzed, including patient and tumor characteristics, postoperative outcomes, and anastomosis-related complications, postoperative hospital stay, the length of abdominal incision, difference in tumor type, postoperative complications, and postoperative survival. RESULTS: Postoperative exhaust time, operation duration, mean postoperative hospital stay, length of abdominal incision, number of specific staplers used, and Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire score were significant in both groups (P < 0.01). In the NOSES group, the postoperative time to first flatus, mean postoperative hospital stay, and length of abdominal incision were significantly shorter than those in the LATG group. Patients in the NOSES group had faster postoperative recovery, and achieved abdominal minimally invasive incision that met aesthetic requirements. There were no significant differences in gender, age, tumor type, postoperative complications, and postoperative survival between the two groups. CONCLUSION: The application of dual circular staplers in Roux-en-Y digestive tract reconstruction combined with NOSES gastrectomy is safe and convenient. This approach offers better short-term outcomes compared to LATG, while long-term survival rates are comparable to those of conventional laparoscopic surgery.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To conduct bibliometric analysis of the application of inorganic nanomaterials to autoimmune diseases to characterize current research trends and to visualize past and emerging trends in this field in the past 15 years. Methods: The evolution and thematic trends of the application of inorganic nanomaterials to autoimmune diseases from January 1, 1985, to March 15, 2024, were analyzed by bibliometric analysis of data retrieved and extracted from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database. A total of 734 relevant reports in the literature were evaluated according to specific characteristics such as year of publication, journal, institution, country/region, references, and keywords. VOSviewer was used to build co-authorship analysis, co-occurrence analysis, co-citation analysis, and network visualization. Some important subtopics identified by bibliometric characterization are further discussed and reviewed. Result: From 2009 to 2024, annual publications worldwide increased from 11 to 95, an increase of 764%. ACS Nano published the most papers (14) with the most citations (1372). China (230 papers, 4922 citations) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (36 papers, 718 citations) are the most productive and influential country and institution, respectively. The first 100 keywords were co-clustered to form four clusters: (1) the application of inorganic nanomaterials in drug delivery, (2) the application of inorganic nano-biosensing to autoimmune diseases, (3) the use of inorganic nanomaterials for imaging applied to autoimmune diseases, and (4) the application of inorganic nanomaterials in the treatment of autoimmune diseases. Combination therapy, microvesicles, photothermal therapy (PTT), targeting, diagnostics, transdermal, microneedling, silver nanoparticles, psoriasis, and inflammatory cytokines are the latest high-frequency keywords, marking the emerging frontier of inorganic nanomaterials in the field of autoimmune diseases. Sub-topics were further discussed to help researchers determine the scope of research topics and plan research directions. Conclusion: Over the past 39 years, the application of inorganic nanotechnology to the field of autoimmune diseases shows extensive cooperation between countries and institutions, showing a continuous increase in the number of reports in the literature, and has clinical translation prospects. Future research should further improve the safety of inorganic nanomaterials, clarify the mechanism of action of nanomaterials, establish a standardized nanomaterial preparation and performance evaluation system, and ultimately achieve the goal of early detection and precise treatment of autoimmune diseases.

ABSTRACT

A portable Hadamard-transform Raman spectrometer with excellent performance was fabricated consisting of a 785 nm laser, an optical filter, an optical system, a control system, and a signal processing system. As the core of the spectrometer, the optical system was composed of a slit, collimator, optical grating, reflector, digital micromirror devices (DMD), lens system, and InGaAs photodetector. Compared with a conventional dispersive Raman spectrometer, the proposed Raman spectrometer adopted the DMD and corresponding controlling device (DLPC350 control chip) to collect the Raman spectrum. Thus, in our design, the gratings are fixed, while the full Raman spectrum was collected by the deflection of the micromirror. This design can greatly improve the vibration resistance ability of the spectrometer since the gratings are not rotating during the spectrum collecting. More importantly, Hadamard-transform was used as signal processing technology, which has the ability of faster calculation, the merits of high energy input, single detector multichannel simultaneous detection (imaging) ability, and high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Hence, the Hadamard-transform portable Raman spectrometer has the potential to be applied in the field of point-of-care testing (POCT).

ABSTRACT

The Mediterranean mussel, Mytilus galloprovincialis, is a significant marine bivalve species that has ecological and economic importance. This species is robustly resilient and highly invasive. Despite the scientific and commercial interest in studying its biology and aquaculture, there remains a need for a high-quality, chromosome-scale reference genome. In this study, we have assembled a high-quality chromosome-scale reference genome for M. galloprovincialis. The total length of our reference genome is 1.41 Gb, with a scaffold N50 sequence length of 96.9 Mb. BUSCO analysis revealed a 97.5% completeness based on complete BUSCOs. Compared to the four other available M. galloprovincialis assemblies, the assembly described here is dramatically improved in both contiguity and completeness. This new reference genome will greatly contribute to a deeper understanding of the resilience and invasiveness of M. galloprovincialis.

ABSTRACT

Microplastic pollution is a major environmental threat, especially to terrestrial ecosystems. To better understand the effects of microplastics on soil microbiota, the influence of micro- to nano-scale polypropylene plastics was investigated on microbial community diversity, functionality, co-occurrence, assembly, and their interaction with soil-plant using high-throughput sequencing approaches and multivariate analyses. The results showed that polypropylene micro/nano-plastics mainly reduced bacterial diversity, not fungal, and that plastic size had a stronger effect than concentration on the assembly of microbial communities. Nano-plastics decreased the complexity and connectivity of both bacterial and fungal networks compared to micro-plastics. Moreover, bacteria were more sensitive and deterministic to polypropylene micro/nano-plastic stress than fungi, as shown by their different growth rates, guanine-cytosine content, and cell structure. Interestingly, the dominant ecological process for bacteria shifted from stochastic drift to deterministic selection with polypropylene micro/nano-plastic exposure. Furthermore, nano-plastics directly or indirectly disrupted the interactions within intra-microbes and between soil-bacteria-plant by altering soil nutrients and stoichiometry (C:N:P) or plant diversity. Collectively, the results indicate that polypropylene nano-plastics pose more ecological risks to soil microbes and their plant-soil interactions. This study sheds light on the potential ecological consequences of polypropylene micro/nano-plastic pollution in terrestrial ecosystems.

ABSTRACT

Background: Hyperlipidemia is a worldwide health problem and a significant risk factor for cardiovascular diseases; therefore, it imposes a heavy burden on society and healthcare. It has been reported that flavonoids can increase energy expenditure and fat oxidation, be anti-inflammatory, and reduce lipid factor levels, which may reduce the risk of hyperlipidemia. However, the relationship between the prevalence of hyperlipidemia and dietary flavonoid intake in the population remains unclear. Methods: This study included 8,940 adults from the 2007-2010 and 2017-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES). The relationship between dietary flavonoid intake and the prevalence of hyperlipidemia was analyzed using weighted logistic regression and weighted restricted cubic spline. Results: We found an inverse relationship between subtotal catechins intake and hyperlipidemia prevalence in the third quartile [0.74 (0.56, 0.98), p = 0.04] compared with the first quartile. The prevalence of hyperlipidemia and total flavan-3-ol intake in the third quartile were inversely correlated [0.76 (0.59, 0.98), p = 0.03]. Total anthocyanin intake was inversely related to the prevalence of hyperlipidemia in the third quartile [0.77 (0.62, 0.95), p = 0.02] and the fourth quartile [0.77 (0.60, 0.98), p = 0.04]. The prevalence of hyperlipidemia was negatively correlated with total flavonols intake in the fourth quartile [0.75 (0.60, 0.94), p = 0.02]. Using restricted cubic splines analysis, we found that subtotal catechins intake and total flavan-3-ol intake had a nonlinear relationship with the prevalence of hyperlipidemia. Conclusion: Our study may provide preliminary research evidence for personalizing improved dietary habits to reduce the prevalence of hyperlipidemia.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Stuttering affects approximately 5% of children; however, its neurological basis remains unclear. Identifying imaging biomarkers could aid in early detection. Accordingly, we investigated resting-state cerebral blood flow (CBF) in children with developmental stuttering. METHODS: Pulsed arterial spin labelling magnetic resonance imaging was utilised to quantify CBF in 35 children with developmental stuttering and 27 healthy controls. We compared normalised CBF between the two groups and evaluated the correlation between abnormal CBF and clinical indicators. RESULTS: Compared with healthy controls, the stuttering group exhibited decreased normalised CBF in the cerebellum lobule VI bilaterally, right cuneus, and left superior occipital gyrus and increased CBF in the right medial superior frontal gyrus, left rectus, and left dorsolateral superior frontal gyrus. Additionally, normalised CBF in the left cerebellum lobule VI and left superior occipital gyrus was positively correlated with stuttering severity. CONCLUSIONS: Children who stutter display decreased normalised CBF primarily in the cerebellum and occipital gyrus, with increased normalised CBF in the frontal gyrus. Additionally, the abnormal CBF in the left cerebellum lobule VI and left superior occipital gyrus was associated with more severe symptoms, suggesting that decreased CBF in these areas may serve as a novel neuroimaging clue for stuttering. IMPACT: Stuttering occurs in 5% of children and often extends into adulthood, which may negatively affect quality of life. Early detection and treatment are essential. We used pulsed arterial spin labelling magnetic resonance imaging to visualise the resting-state cerebral blood flow (CBF) in children who stutter and healthy children. Normalised CBF was decreased in stutterers in the cerebellum and occipital gyrus and increased in the frontal gyrus. Stuttering severity was linked to abnormal normalised CBF in the left cerebellum lobule VI and left superior occipital gyrus, suggesting that CBF may serve as a novel neuroimaging clue for stuttering.

ABSTRACT

Reduced adipogenesis is a prominent characteristic of aging adipose tissue and is closely tied to the development of metabolic disorders associated with aging. Epigenetic modification plays a crucial role in the aging process, yet the role of N6-methyladenosine (m6A), the most prevalent RNA modification, in regulating adipose tissue aging remains uncertain. Our study found that levels of m6A and its recognition protein, heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein C (HNRNPC), decrease in adipose tissue as individuals age. Lower levels of HNRNPC were also linked to reduced adipogenesis during aging. Through loss and gain of function experiments with HNRNPC, we established a positive correlation between HNRNPC and adipogenesis in vitro. Hnrnpc-APKO mice displayed decreased adipogenesis, increased insulin resistance, elevated expression of aging-related and inflammation-related genes, decreased lipogenesis-related genes, and other metabolic disorders compared to their littermates. Additionally, we discovered that HNRNPC facilitated the stability of lymphocyte cytosolic protein 1 (Lcp1) mRNA by binding to the m6A motif of LCP1. Overexpression of LCP1 mitigated the inhibition of adipogenesis caused by decreased HNRNPC through modulation of cytoskeletal remodeling. Finally, our findings demonstrate that anti-aging treatments could enhance HNRNPC levels. In conclusion, HNRNPC is positively associated with reduced adipogenesis during aging, and increacing HNRNPC levels through anti-aging treatments highlights its potential as a therapeutic target for addressing metabolic imbalances in adipose tissue related to aging.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have shown a strong correlation between gut microbiota and diabetes and its associated complications. We aimed to evaluate the causal relationships between the gut microbiota, gut metabolites, and diabetic neuropathy. METHODS: Summary statistics of 211 gut microbiota and 12 gut-related metabolites (ß-hydroxybutyric acid, betaine, trimethylamine-N-oxide, carnitine, choline, glutamate, kynurenine, phenylalanine, propionic acid, serotonin, tryptophan, and tyrosine) were obtained from previous genome-wide association studies (GWAS). A two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) design was used to estimate the effects of gut microbiota and gut metabolites on the risk of diabetic neuropathy based on FinnGen GWAS. RESULTS: Higher levels of Acidaminococcaceae (OR = 0.62; 95%CI = 0.46 to 0.84; P = 0.002), Peptococcaceae (OR = 0.70; 95%CI = 0.54 to 0.90; P = 0.006), and Eubacterium coprostanoligenes group (OR = 0.68; 95%CI = 0.50 to 0.93; P = 0.016) are genetically determined to provide protection against diabetic neuropathy. Conversely, the presence of Alistipes (OR = 1.65; 95%CI = 1.18 to 2.31; P = 0.003), ChristensenellaceaeR7 group (OR = 1.52; 95%CI = 1.03 to 2.23; P = 0.033), Eggerthella (OR = 1.28; 95%CI = 1.05 to 1.55; P = 0.014), RuminococcaceaeUCG013 (OR = 1.35; 95%CI = 1.01 to 1.82; P = 0.046), and Firmicutes (OR = 1.42; 95%CI = 1.05 to 1.93; P = 0.023) increases the risk of diabetic neuropathy. Moreover, a correlation has been identified between diabetic neuropathy and two gut metabolites: betaine (OR = 0.95; 95%CI = 0.90 to 1.00; P = 0.033) and tyrosine (OR = 1.03; 95%CI = 1.01 to 1.06; P = 0.019). Sensitivity analysis indicated robust results with no sign of heterogeneity or pleiotropy. CONCLUSION: The present study elucidated the impact of specific gut microbiota and gut metabolites on the susceptibility to diabetic neuropathy. Interventions targeting the improvement of the gut microbiota diversity and composition hold considerable promise as a potential strategy.

ABSTRACT

Quantitative MRI enables direct quantification of contrast agent concentrations in contrast-enhanced scans. However, the lengthy scan times required by conventional methods are inadequate for tracking contrast agent transport dynamically in mouse brain. We developed a 3D MR fingerprinting (MRF) method for simultaneous T1 and T2 mapping across the whole mouse brain with 4.3-min temporal resolution. We designed a 3D MRF sequence with variable acquisition segment lengths and magnetization preparations on a 9.4T preclinical MRI scanner. Model-based reconstruction approaches were employed to improve the accuracy and speed of MRF acquisition. The method's accuracy for T1 and T2 measurements was validated in vitro, while its repeatability of T1 and T2 measurements was evaluated in vivo (n=3). The utility of the 3D MRF sequence for dynamic tracking of intracisternally infused Gd-DTPA in the whole mouse brain was demonstrated (n=5). Phantom studies confirmed accurate T1 and T2 measurements by 3D MRF with an undersampling factor up to 48. Dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) MRF scans achieved a spatial resolution of 192 x 192 x 500 um3 and a temporal resolution of 4.3 min, allowing for the analysis and comparison of dynamic changes in concentration and transport kinetics of intracisternally infused Gd-DTPA across brain regions. The sequence also enabled highly repeatable, high-resolution T1 and T2 mapping of the whole mouse brain (192 x 192 x 250 um3) in 30 min. We present the first dynamic and multi-parametric approach for quantitatively tracking contrast agent transport in the mouse brain using 3D MRF.

ABSTRACT

Online health communities (OHCs) are important online health communication channels for older adults with diabetes to access health information. When seeking health information, they often disclose a variety of contextual information (e.g., socio-economic situations) in their questions. Selective contextual information disclosure is a type of communication strategy for users in OHCs to elicit replies from others. In this study, we adopted text analysis to investigate what contextual information older adults with diabetes disclose to articulate their information needs and used the fixed-effect Poisson model to examine the relationships between different types of contextual information disclosure and informational support receipt. Our analyses were based on a dataset of 4,505 questions and corresponding replies from an online diabetes community. The results showed that cognitive information is the most frequently disclosed contextual information, while older adults tend to disclose demographic information in their questions less. Providing demographic and situational details in questions can enhance informational support receiving, resulting in an increased number of informational supports. However, disclosing cognitive, affective, informational channels, or support information does not significantly affect the informational support receiving. These findings can contribute to extending our existing understanding of information seekers' communication strategies in OHCs.

Statement of problem: Intraoral scanners (IOSs) are widely used in dentistry, providing high accuracy in short-range scanning. Nevertheless, when scanning the full dental arch, it remains a challenge. Furthermore, there is a lack of studies reporting the differences in scan accuracy between dental arches with large-span mucosal areas and fully dentate casts or optimal IOS selection for different dental statuses. Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy and scanning time of different IOSs for full dentate (FD) and partially edentulous (PE) casts with missing teeth in the #34-#44 range and to determine the IOSs with the optimal clinical adaptability and scanning accuracy for different complete-arch casts. Material and methods: Reference scans of two complete-arch (FD and PE) casts were obtained using a laboratory scanner (Ceramill Map 600). Subsequently, the same casts were scanned ten times each by seven IOSs (3Shape Trios 3, CS3600, Planmeca Emerald, iTero Element 5D, Medit i500, BAMBOO B1, and Shining Aoralscan 3), and the scanning time was recorded. The test data were superimposed on the reference scans for the selected areas, and three-dimensional deviations between the reference and test casts (trueness), and between test casts (precision) were determined using reverse engineering software (Geomagic Wrap). The dataset was analyzed using a two-factor analysis of variance with post-hoc Bonferroni tests. Results: Two-factor analysis of variance revealed significant differences in accuracy and scanning time for different casts (P < 0.001) and IOSs (P < 0.001). For the FD cast, the i500 (0.35 ± 0.11 mm trueness) and CS3600 (0.23 ± 0.12 mm precision) performed worse than the remaining scanners. For the PE cast, the BAMBOO B1(0.89 ± 0.58 mm trueness; 0.88 ± 0.48 mm precision) performed worse than the remaining scanners. There were no differences in the accuracy of scanning between the Element 5D and Emerald for both cast types. However, the scanning time differed significantly between the different IOSs (P < 0.001). Regardless of the cast type, the fastest and slowest scans were performed by the Trios3 and CS3600 scanners respectively. Conclusions: The accuracy and scanning time differed between the different IOSs and types of complete-arch casts.

ABSTRACT

Baijiu production has relied on natural inoculated Qu as a starter culture, causing the unstable microbiota of fermentation grains, which resulted in inconsistent product quality across batches. Therefore, revealing the core microbes and constructing a synthetic microbiota during the fermentation process was extremely important for stabilizing product quality. In this study, the succession of the microbial community was analyzed by high-throughput sequencing technology, and ten core microbes of Xiaoqu light-aroma Baijiu were obtained by mathematical statistics, including Acetobacter, Bacillus, Lactobacillus, Weissella, Pichia,Rhizopus, Wickerhamomyces, Issatchenkia, Saccharomyces, and Kazachstania. Model verification showed that the core microbiota significantly affected the composition of non-core microbiota (P < 0.01) and key flavor-producing enzymes (R > 0.8, P < 0.01), thus significantly affecting the flavor of base Baijiu. Simulated fermentation validated that the core microbiota can reproduce the fermentation process and quality of Xiaoqu light-aroma Baijiu. The succession of bacteria was mainly regulated by acidity and ethanol, while the fungi, especially non-Saccharomyces cerevisiae, were mainly regulated by the initial dominant bacteria (Acetobacter, Bacillus, and Weissella). This study will play an important role in the transformation of Xiaoqu light-aroma Baijiu fermentation from natural fermentation to controlled fermentation and the identification of core microbes in other fermented foods.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Cerebral microbleeds (CMBs) are punctate hemorrhagic lesions within the brain parenchyma and are a classic manifestation of cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD). The primary objective of this study is to investigate the potential role of miR-4685-3p and underlying mechanisms by which miR-4685-3p modulates matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP9) in cerebral microvascular endothelial cell injury. METHODS: We employed high-throughput sequencing to screen for differentially expressed miRNAs in the peripheral blood of patients with CMBs and healthy controls. Employing lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to induce cellular damage, we aim to establish a model of human brain microvascular endothelial cells (hCMEC/D3) injury. We also had cells transfected with miR-4685-3p mimic and MMP9 overexpression plasmid. We utilized quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) to assess the expression levels of miR-4685-3p and performed Western blot analysis to examine MMP9 expression levels in the cells. We employed the CCK-8 assay, TUNEL assay, and tube formation assay to evaluate cellular viability, apoptotic rates, and angiogenic capabilities. Furthermore, dual-luciferase reporter assay analysis was conducted to confirm the relationship between miR-4685-3p and MMP9. RESULTS: The sequencing results indicated a downregulation of miR-4685-3p in the peripheral blood of patients with CMBs. Within the context of LPS-induced injury to hCMEC/D3 cells, miR-4685-3p exhibits reduced expression, whereas MMP9 expression levels are elevated. The elevation of miR-4685-3p expression levels attenuates LPS-induced cellular apoptosis and enhances the viability and tube-forming capacity of hCMEC/D3 cells. Concomitant transfection with MMP9 overexpression constructs effectively reversed the detrimental effects of LPS on hCMEC/D3 cell integrity. We further confirmed that miR-4685-3p overexpression directly targets MMP9, leading to negative regulation of MMP9 expression. CONCLUSION: Upregulating miR-4685-3p, which targets the MMP9 axis, mitigated LPS-induced cerebral microvascular endothelial cell injury, potentially playing a protective role in the progression of CMBs.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: T1 mapping is a widely used quantitative MRI technique, but its tissue-specific values remain inconsistent across protocols, sites, and vendors. The ISMRM Reproducible Research and Quantitative MR study groups jointly launched a challenge to assess the reproducibility of a well-established inversion-recovery T1 mapping technique, using acquisition details from a seminal T1 mapping paper on a standardized phantom and in human brains. METHODS: The challenge used the acquisition protocol from Barral et al. (2010). Researchers collected T1 mapping data on the ISMRM/NIST phantom and/or in human brains. Data submission, pipeline development, and analysis were conducted using open-source platforms. Intersubmission and intrasubmission comparisons were performed. RESULTS: Eighteen submissions (39 phantom and 56 human datasets) on scanners by three MRI vendors were collected at 3 T (except one, at 0.35 T). The mean coefficient of variation was 6.1% for intersubmission phantom measurements, and 2.9% for intrasubmission measurements. For humans, the intersubmission/intrasubmission coefficient of variation was 5.9/3.2% in the genu and 16/6.9% in the cortex. CONCLUSION: The T1 intersubmission variability was twice as high as the intrasubmission variability in both phantoms and human brains, indicating that the acquisition details in the original paper were insufficient to reproduce a quantitative MRI protocol. This study reports the inherent uncertainty in T1 measures across independent research groups, bringing us one step closer to a practical clinical baseline of T1 variations in vivo.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: For effective optimization of MR fingerprinting (MRF) pulse sequences, estimating and minimizing errors from actual scan conditions are crucial. Although virtual-scan simulations offer an approximation to these errors, their computational demands become expensive for high-dimensional MRF frameworks, where interactions between more than two tissue properties are considered. This complexity makes sequence optimization impractical. We introduce a new mathematical model, the systematic error index (SEI), to address the scalability challenges for high-dimensional MRF sequence design. METHODS: By eliminating the need to perform dictionary matching, the SEI model approximates quantification errors with low computational costs. The SEI model was validated in comparison with virtual-scan simulations. The SEI model was further applied to optimize three high-dimensional MRF sequences that quantify two to four tissue properties. The optimized scans were examined in simulations and healthy subjects. RESULTS: The proposed SEI model closely approximated the virtual-scan simulation outcomes while achieving hundred- to thousand-times acceleration in the computational speed. In both simulation and in vivo experiments, the optimized MRF sequences yield higher measurement accuracy with fewer undersampling artifacts at shorter scan times than the heuristically designed sequences. CONCLUSION: We developed an efficient method for estimating real-world errors in MRF scans with high computational efficiency. Our results illustrate that the SEI model could approximate errors both qualitatively and quantitatively. We also proved the practicality of the SEI model of optimizing sequences for high-dimensional MRF frameworks with manageable computational power. The optimized high-dimensional MRF scans exhibited enhanced robustness against undersampling and system imperfections with faster scan times.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this technical report is to demonstrate a fully digital workflow for designing and fabricating metal frameworks and removable partial dentures. After obtaining a digital cast of the dental arch with bilateral distal extension defect, computer-aided design software and 3D printing technology are used for the design and fabrication of the removable partial denture frameworks, denture teeth, and denture bases, instead of the traditional workflow. The assembly of the three components is facilitated through a meticulously structured framework. The technology, which prints metal frameworks, denture bases, and denture teeth through different processes with different materials, achieves full 3D printing technology for making removable partial dentures.

ABSTRACT

Species of the genus Thelephora (Thelephorales, Thelephoraceae) are ectomycorrhizal symbionts of coniferous and broad-leaved plants, and some of them are well-known edible mushrooms, making it an exceptionally important group ecologically and economically. However, the diversity of the species from China has not been fully elucidated. In this study, we conducted a phylogenetic analysis based on the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions, using Maximum Likelihood and Bayesian analyses, along with morphological observations of this genus. Four new species from China are proposed, viz., T. dactyliophora, T. lacunosa, T. petaloides, and T. pinnatifida. In addition, T. sikkimensis originally described from India is reported for the first time from China. Thelephora dactyliophora, T. pinnatifida, and T. sikkimensis are distributed in subtropical forests and mainly associated with plants of the families Fagaceae and Pinaceae. Thelephora lacunosa and T. petaloides are distributed in tropical to subtropical forests. Thelephora lacunosa is mainly associated with plants of the families Fagaceae and Pinaceae, while T. petaloides is mainly associated with plants of the family Fagaceae. Line drawings of microstructures, color pictures of fresh basidiomes, and detailed descriptions of these five species are provided.

ABSTRACT

Background: Hypertension is one of the major risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Dietary flavonoids have been reported to reduce inflammation, protect against oxidative stress, protect the vascular endothelium, and improve vascular health. However, the relationship between dietary flavonoid intake and the prevalence of hypertension remains controversial. Methods: This study included 8010 adults from the 2007-2010 and 2017-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES). The relationship between dietary flavonoid intake and the prevalence of hypertension was explored by weighted logistic regression and weighted restricted cubic spline. Results: We found an inverse relationship between total anthocyanin intake and the prevalence of hypertension in the fourth quartile compared with the first quartile [0.81(0.66,0.99), p = 0.04]. Moreover, the prevalence of hypertension tended to decrease with increasing total anthocyanin intake in participants over 60 years of age. In addition, we found a U-shaped relationship between the prevalence of hypertension and total flavan-3-ol intake. Total flavan-3-ol intake was inversely associated with hypertension prevalence in the third quartile compared with the first quartile [0.79 (0.63,0.99), p = 0.04]. Moreover, there was a significant negative association between the prevalence of hypertension and total flavan-3-ol intake when total flavan-3-ol intake was below 48.26 mg/day. Conclusion: Our study found a negative association between the prevalence of hypertension and moderate total anthocyanins intake and total flavan-3-ols intake. Our study provides evidence from a population-based study for a negative association between dietary flavonoid intake and the prevalence of hypertension.
