ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the impact of postoperative fasting blood glucose monitoring on the prognosis of patients with acute intracranial large vessel occlusion (ALVO) after mechanical thrombectomy. METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted on 328 diabetic patients diagnosed with acute ischemic stroke through MRI, confirmed to have intracranial large vessel occlusion through MRA or DSA, and treated with mechanical thrombectomy between June 2021 and June 2023 at Tianjin Huanhu Hospital. Based on the 90-day postonset prognosis (modified Rankin scale, 90d-mRS), 148 patients were categorized into the favorable prognosis group (90d-mRS score 0-2) and 180 into the poor prognosis group (90d-mRS 3-6). Clinical data between the 2 groups were compared. Factors with P<0.1 in univariate analysis were included in multivariate Logistic regression analysis to evaluate their impact on prognosis. RESULTS: A total of 328 diabetic patients were included in the study, with a median age of 63 (56, 69) years; 240 males aged 60.88 (55, 68.75) years and 88 females aged 65.16 (60, 72) years. There were significant differences between the 2 groups in terms of gender, preoperative mRS, and fasting blood glucose within the first 3 days postoperation. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis indicated that gender, preoperative mRS score, and fasting blood glucose on the first postoperative day were independent risk factors for poor prognosis. Female diabetic patients had a 56.7% higher rate of poor prognosis compared with males patients (OR: 0.567, 95% CI: 0.326-0.986, P=0.044); the poor prognosis rate in the preoperative mRS 3 to 6 group was 2.101 times that of the preoperative mRS 0 to 2 group (OR: 2.101, 95% CI: 1.027-4.300, P=0.042); for every 1 mmol/L increase in fasting blood glucose on the first day post-thrombectomy was associated with a 10.2% increase in the rate of poor prognosis at 90 days (OR: 1.102, 95% CI: 1.023-1.189, P=0.011). The predictive power of fasting blood glucose on the first postoperative day for 90d-mRS was greater than that of gender and preoperative mRS, with sensitivity and specificity of 68.2% and 60.6%, respectively. Combined prediction using fasting blood glucose, gender, and preoperative mRS had similar effectiveness. Maintaining fasting blood glucose levels below 11.5 mmol/L on the first day post-thrombectomy could reduce the rate of poor prognosis in patients. CONCLUSION: Fasting blood glucose levels on the first day post-thrombectomy can be used as a prognostic indicator for diabetic patients with acute intracranial large vessel occlusion. Effective blood glucose control can significantly reduce the rate of poor prognosis in these patients.

ABSTRACT

Systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) is a severe inflammatory response that can lead to organ dysfunction and death. Modulating the gut microbiome is a promising therapeutic approach for managing SIRS. This study assesses the therapeutic potential of the Xuanfei Baidu (XFBD) formula in treating SIRS. The results showed that XFBD administration effectively reduced mortality rates and inflammation in SIRS mice. Using 16S rRNA sequencing and fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT), we substantiated that the therapeutic effects of XFBD are partly attributed to gut microbiota modulation. We conducted in vitro experiments to accurately assess the gut microbiome remodeling effects of 51 compounds isolated from XFBD. These compounds exhibited varying abilities to induce a microbial structure that closely resembles that of the healthy control group. By quantifying their impact on microbial structure and clustering their regulatory patterns, we devised multiple gut microbiome remodeling compound (GMRC) cocktails. GMRC cocktail C, comprising aucubin, gentiopicroside, syringic acid, gallic acid, p-hydroxybenzaldehyde, para-hydroxybenzoic acid, and isoimperatorin, demonstrated superior efficacy in treating SIRS compared to a single compound or to other cocktails. Finally, in vitro experiments showcased that GMRC cocktail C effectively rebalanced bacteria composition in SIRS patients. This study underscores XFBD's therapeutic potential in SIRS and highlights the importance of innovative treatment approaches for this disease by targeting the gut microbiota.IMPORTANCEDeveloping effective treatment strategies for systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) is crucial due to its severe and often life-threatening nature. While traditional treatments like dexamethasone have shown efficacy, they also come with significant side effects and limitations. This study makes significant strides by demonstrating that the Xuanfei Baidu (XFBD) formula can substantially reduce mortality rates and inflammation in SIRS mice through effective modulation of the gut microbiota. By quantitatively assessing the impact of 51 compounds derived from XFBD on the gut microbiome, we developed a potent gut microbiome remodeling compound cocktail. This cocktail outperformed individual compounds and other mixtures in efficacy against SIRS. These findings highlight the potential of XFBD as a therapeutic solution for SIRS and underscore the critical role of innovative strategies targeting the gut microbiota in addressing this severe inflammatory condition.

ABSTRACT

Background: Thyroid cancer (TC) prone to cervical lymph node (CLN) metastasis both before and after surgery. Ultrasonography (US) is the first-line imaging method for evaluating the thyroid gland and CLNs. However, this assessment relies mainly on the subjective judgment of the sonographer and is very much dependent on the sonographer's experience. This prospective study was designed to construct a machine learning model based on contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) videos of CLNs to predict the risk of CLN metastasis in patients with TC. Methods: Patients who were proposed for surgical treatment due to TC from August 2019 to May 2020 were prospectively included. All patients underwent US of CLNs suspected of metastasis, and a 2-minute imaging video was recorded. After target tracking, feature extraction, and feature selection through the lymph node imaging video, three machine learning models, namely, support vector machine, linear discriminant analysis (LDA), and decision tree (DT), were constructed, and the sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of each model for diagnosing lymph nodes were calculated by leave-one-out cross-validation (LOOCV). Results: A total of 75 lymph nodes were included in the study, with 42 benign cases and 33 malignant cases. Among the machine learning models constructed, the support vector machine had the best diagnostic efficacy, with a sensitivity of 93.0%, a specificity of 93.8%, and an accuracy of 93.3%. Conclusions: The machine learning model based on US video is helpful for the diagnosis of whether metastasis occurs in the CLNs of TC patients.

ABSTRACT

Luteolin has various pharmacological properties, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antitumor characteristics. Due to its potential value in drugs and functional foods, it is important to develop an efficient method for detecting luteolin. In this work, the poor selectivity of existing luteolin nonenzymatic sensors was solved by translating the enzyme-catalyzed reaction from bulk solution to the surface of a horseradish peroxidase (HRP) modified electrode through an electrocatalytic oxidation process. Here, we modified the surface of a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) with metal-organic frameworks (MOFs; ZIF-67 here, abbreviated as ZIF), functional nanomaterials, and HRP and finally covered it with Nafion (NF). In this case, luteolin acts as a hydrogen donor, and the electrode acts as a hydrogen acceptor; the oxidation reaction occurs on the electrode surface. The use of ZIF-67 ensured the conformational stability of HRP to ensure the selectivity and anti-interference property, and SDS-dispersed multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) enhanced the electrode conductivity. The use of NF avoids shedding of the electrode material during the testing process. A UV-vis spectrophotometer was used to study the selectivity of luteolin by HRP and the compatibility between HRP and ZIF. The materials were characterized and analyzed by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Due to the synergistic effect of these nanomaterials, the linear range of NF/ZIF-HRP/MWCNTs-SDS/GCE was 1.0 × 10-2 to 6.0 µM, with detection limits of 25.3 nM (S/N = 3). The biosensor showed long-term stability and reproducibility, with a relative standard deviation of 4.2% for the peak current (n = 5). Finally, the biosensor was successfully used to detect luteolin in carrots, celery, and cauliflower.

ABSTRACT

Raman spectroscopy is an important technique for analyzing the chemical composition of samples in many fields. A severe challenge often encountered in Raman measurements is the presence of a concurrent fluorescence background, especially in biological samples. In order to obtain accurate Raman spectra, the fluorescence background must be subtracted from the original Raman spectra. We proposed a shifted ratio spectrum method to subtract the strong fluorescence background from the original Raman spectrum. First, the original Raman spectrum is divided into multiple regions according to the spectral shape of the shifted ratio spectra, and then, Gaussian fitting is performed in each region. The fitting results are stitched together in order to obtain the complete fluorescence background. Finally, this fluorescence background is subtracted from the original spectrum to obtain a pure Raman spectrum. This method can accurately subtract the fluorescence background of Rhodamine 6G (R6G)/ethanol solution and serum. This highlights the great potential of this method for applications in both biological and non-biological samples.

BACKGROUND: Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) is a condition characterized by a substantial decline or loss of ovarian function in women before the age of 40. However, the pathogenesis of POI remains to be further elucidated, and specific targeted drugs which could delay or reverse ovarian reserve decline are urgently needed. Abnormal DNA damage repair (DDR) and cell senescence in granulosa cells are pathogenic mechanisms of POI. Ubiquitin-specific protease 14 (USP14) is a key enzyme that regulates the deubiquitylation of DDR-related proteins, but whether USP14 participates in the pathogenesis of POI remains unclear. METHODS: We measured USP14 mRNA expression in granulosa cells from biochemical POI (bPOI) patients. In KGN cells, we used IU1 and siRNA-USP14 to specifically inhibit USP14 and constructed a cell line stably overexpressing USP14 to examine its effects on DDR function and cellular senescence in granulosa cells. Next, we explored the therapeutic potential of IU1 in POI mouse models induced by D-galactose. RESULTS: USP14 expression in the granulosa cells of bPOI patients was significantly upregulated. In KGN cells, IU1 treatment and siUSP14 transfection decreased etoposide-induced DNA damage levels, promoted DDR function, and inhibited cell senescence. USP14 overexpression increased DNA damage, impaired DDR function, and promoted cell senescence. Moreover, IU1 treatment and siUSP14 transfection increased nonhomologous end joining (NHEJ), upregulated RNF168, Ku70, and DDB1, and increased ubiquitinated DDB1 levels in KGN cells. Conversely, USP14 overexpression had the opposite effects. Intraperitoneal IU1 injection alleviated etoposide-induced DNA damage in granulosa cells, ameliorated the D-galactose-induced POI phenotype, promoted DDR, and inhibited cell senescence in ovarian granulosa cells in vivo. CONCLUSIONS: Upregulated USP14 in ovarian granulosa cells may play a role in POI pathogenesis, and targeting USP14 may be a potential POI treatment strategy. Our study provides new insights into the pathogenesis of POI and a novel POI treatment strategy.

AIMS: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is related to an increased risk of postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD), which may be caused by neuronal hyperexcitability. Astrocyte glutamate transporter 1 (GLT-1) plays a crucial role in regulating neuron excitability. We investigated if T2DM would magnify the increased neuronal excitability induced by anesthesia/surgery (A/S) and lead to POCD in young adult mice, and if so, determined whether these effects were associated with GLT-1 expression. METHODS: T2DM model was induced by high fat diet (HFD) and injecting STZ. Then, we evaluated the spatial learning and memory of T2DM mice after A/S with the novel object recognition test (NORT) and object location test (OLT). Western blotting and immunofluorescence were used to analyze the expression levels of GLT-1 and neuronal excitability. Oxidative stress reaction and neuronal apoptosis were detected with SOD2 expression, MMP level, and Tunel staining. Hippocampal functional synaptic plasticity was assessed with long-term potentiation (LTP). In the intervention study, we overexpressed hippocampal astrocyte GLT-1 in GFAP-Cre mice. Besides, AAV-Camkllα-hM4Di-mCherry was injected to inhibit neuronal hyperexcitability in CA1 region. RESULTS: Our study found T2DM but not A/S reduced GLT-1 expression in hippocampal astrocytes. Interestingly, GLT-1 deficiency alone couldn't lead to cognitive decline, but the downregulation of GLT-1 in T2DM mice obviously enhanced increased hippocampal glutamatergic neuron excitability induced by A/S. The hyperexcitability caused neuronal apoptosis and cognitive impairment. Overexpression of GLT-1 rescued postoperative cognitive dysfunction, glutamatergic neuron hyperexcitability, oxidative stress reaction, and apoptosis in hippocampus. Moreover, chemogenetic inhibition of hippocampal glutamatergic neurons reduced oxidative stress and apoptosis and alleviated postoperative cognitive dysfunction. CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that the adult mice with type 2 diabetes are at an increased risk of developing POCD, perhaps due to the downregulation of GLT-1 in hippocampal astrocytes, which enhances increased glutamatergic neuron excitability induced by A/S and leads to oxidative stress reaction, and neuronal apoptosis.

ABSTRACT

Self-discharge and chemically induced mechanical effects degrade calendar and cycle life in intercalation-based electrochromic and electrochemical energy storage devices. In rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, self-discharge in cathodes causes voltage and capacity loss over time. The prevailing self-discharge model centers on the diffusion of lithium ions from the electrolyte into the cathode. We demonstrate an alternative pathway, where hydrogenation of layered transition metal oxide cathodes induces self-discharge through hydrogen transfer from carbonate solvents to delithiated oxides. In self-discharged cathodes, we further observe opposing proton and lithium ion concentration gradients, which contribute to chemical and structural heterogeneities within delithiated cathodes, accelerating degradation. Hydrogenation occurring in delithiated cathodes may affect the chemo-mechanical coupling of layered cathodes as well as the calendar life of lithium-ion batteries.

In recent years, with the advent of a super-aged society, lifelong dental care has gained increasing emphasis, and implant therapy for patients with an edentulous jaw has become a significant option. However, for implant therapy to be suitable for elderly patients with reduced regenerative and immunological capabilities, higher osteoconductive and antimicrobial properties are required on the implant surfaces. Silicon nitride, a non-oxide ceramic known for its excellent mechanical properties and biocompatibility, has demonstrated high potential for inducing hard tissue differentiation and exhibiting antibacterial properties. In this study, silicon nitride was deposited on pure titanium metal surfaces and evaluated for its biocompatibility and antibacterial properties. The findings indicate that silicon nitride improves the hydrophilicity of the material surface, enhancing the initial adhesion of rat bone marrow cells and promoting hard tissue differentiation. Additionally, the antibacterial properties were assessed using Staphylococcus aureus, revealing that the silicon nitride-coated surfaces exhibited significant antibacterial activity. Importantly, no cytotoxicity was observed, suggesting that silicon nitride-coated titanium could serve as a novel implant material.

ABSTRACT

Constructing a biosensor to detect luteolin content accurately is essential, especially considering its specific health benefits at certain concentrations. In this work, the reaction of HRP catalyzed luteolin could be successfully applied in electrocatalytic processes, the oxidation process of electron loss and dehydrogenation occurring on the electrode replaced the hydrogen receptor role of H2O2 in the HRP biocatalytic process. This oxidation reaction had an apparent current response, thus achieving accurate measurement of luteolin. On this biosensor, CTAB was used to disperse MWCNTs, and BSA was used to improve the hydrophobicity of MWCNTs, which was conducive to the subsequent AuNPs fixation of HRP. Three detection methods (LSV, DPV and SWV) for the detection of luteolin were compared and showed that SWV method had a wider linear range (1 × 10-8-2 × 10-5 M) and lower detection limit (8 × 10-10 M). The determination of luteolin in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and biosensor was almost identical. Therefore, this biosensor could successfully replace HPLC in detecting luteolin in TCM.

ABSTRACT

With high specific surface area, excellent polysulfide conversion activity, and fast electron/ion transfer at the interface, MXene-derived heterostructures can be employed as catalysts for lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries to accelerate sulfur redox kinetics and suppress shuttle effect. However, the preparation of MXene-derived heterostructures often requires high-temperature reactions, which can easily lead to the oxidation of MXene and sacrifice the electrical conductivity. Herein, a catalytic two-dimensional heterostructure (ZnS/MXene) was successfully synthesized via a mild method. The MXene skeleton retains the original nanosheet structure without oxidation. The in situ-grown ZnS nanospheres prevent the restacking of MXene nanosheets, which not only increases the active sites, but also guarantees channels for the fast passage of lithium ions. The interfacial built-in electric field further promotes electron/ion migration, thereby expediting the polysulfide conversion and suppressing the shuttle effect. Consequently, the batteries using ZnS/MXene modified separators exhibit a high initial discharge capacity of 1230 mAh g-1 at 0.1 C and a low decaying rate of 0.082% per cycle after 500 cycles at 0.5 C. This work offers a reference for the fabrication of MXene-based heterostructure in Li-S batteries.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of CO2 fractional laser and microneedling pretreatment combined with ALA-PDT for moderate-to-severe acne, aiming to optimize clinical treatment. METHODS: Patients were randomly divided into three groups: Group A (CO2 fractional laser + ALA-PDT), Group B (microneedling + ALA-PDT), and Group C (ALA-PDT). Each group underwent photodynamic therapy once a week for 3 weeks. Efficacy was assessed at the end of the 4th week, and recurrence was assessed at the end of the 12th week. RESULTS: A total of 150 patients with moderate to severe acne were included in this study, with 50 patients in each group. Four weeks after the end of treatment, the effective rates were 88 % for Group A, 62 % for Group B, and 36 % for Group C. Statistically significant differences were found between the groups (P < 0.05), with Group A showing superior efficacy compared to Group B (P < 0.05). No serious systemic or local adverse reactions were observed in any group. No recurrence was seen in any group 12 weeks after the end of treatment, and some patients continued to show improvement in skin lesions over time. CONCLUSION: Both the CO2 fractional laser group and the microneedling group improved the efficacy of photodynamic therapy for moderate to severe acne compared to the control group, with the CO2 fractional laser group demonstrating better efficacy and fewer adverse effects.

BACKGROUND: Spastic pelvic floor syndrome (SPFS) is a refractory pelvic floor disease characterized by abnormal (uncoordinated) contractions of the external anal sphincter and puborectalis muscle during defecation, resulting in rectal emptation and obstructive constipation. The clinical manifestations of SPFS are mainly characterized by difficult defecation, often accompanied by a sense of anal blockage and drooping. Manual defecation is usually needed during defecation. From physical examination, it is commonly observed that the patient's anal muscle tension is high, and it is difficult or even impossible to enter with his fingers. AIM: To investigate the characteristics of anorectal pressure and botulinum toxin A injection combined with biofeedback in treating pelvic floor muscle spasm syndrome. METHODS: Retrospective analysis of 50 patients diagnosed with pelvic floor spasm syndrome. All patients underwent pelvic floor surface electromyography assessment, anorectal dynamics examination, botulinum toxin type A injection 100 U intramuscular injection, and two cycles of biofeedback therapy. RESULTS: After the botulinum toxin A injection combined with two cycles of biofeedback therapy, the patient's postoperative resting and systolic blood pressure were significantly lower than before surgery (P < 0.05). Moreover, the electromyography index of the patients in the resting stage and post-resting stages was significantly lower than before surgery (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Botulinum toxin A injection combined with biofeedback can significantly reduce pelvic floor muscle tension in treating pelvic floor muscle spasm syndrome. Anorectal manometry is an effective method to evaluate the efficacy of treatment objectively. However, randomized controlled trials are needed.

INTRODUCTION: This study aimed to determine the efficacy and safety of autologous PRP in anal fistula. METHODS: The search was done in electronic databases such as; PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, Embase, and Cochrane Library. The outcomes investigated in this study were the rate of improvement, the rate of recurrence, and the rate of fecal incontinence. RESULTS: Cure, incontinence, and recurrence rates were 68% (95% CI, .60-.76), 27% (95% CI, .12-.46), and 18% (95% CI, .12-.26), respectively. The pooled improvement ratio in patients treated with PRP compared to control group was 1.35 times, which was statistically significant (pooled OR=1.35, 95% CI, 1.14-1.60, P<001). The pooled recurrence ratio in patients treated with PRP compared to control group was 1.17, which was not statistically significant (pooled OR=1.17, 95% CI, 0.44-3.11). DISCUSSION: Platelet-rich plasma is an effective method of healing people with anal fistula.

ABSTRACT

A substantial reservoir of nitrogen (N) in soil poses a threat to the quality and safety of shallow groundwater, especially under extreme precipitation that hastens nitrogen leaching into groundwater. However, the specific impact of varying precipitation intensities on the concentration and sources of nitrate (NO3-) in groundwater across diverse hydrogeological zones and land uses remains unclear. This study aims to elucidate the fluctuations in NO3- concentration, sources, and controlling factors in shallow groundwater under different intensities of precipitation (extreme heavy precipitation and continuous heavy precipitation) in a typical alluvial-pluvial fan of the North China Plain by using stable isotopes (δ2H-H2O, δ18O-H2O, δ15N-NO3-, δ18O-NO3-), hydrochemical analyses and the SIAR model. Affected by extreme heavy precipitation the depleted isotopes of δ2H-H2O and δ18O-H2O in groundwater of the entire area suggested the rapid recharge of fast flow by precipitation. The enriched isotopes of δ2H-H2O and δ18O-H2O of north part in alluvial fan after continuous heavy precipitation showed the recharge of translatory flow of soil water. NO3-concentrations increased to 78.9 mg/L after extreme heavy precipitation and increased to 105.3 mg/L after continuous heavy precipitation when compared to those in normal year (56.8 mg/L) of north part of the alluvial fan. However, NO3- concentrations had slight variation after continuous heavy precipitation of south part of the fan due to the deep vadose zone. The contribution ratio of sources of NO3- in groundwater by using SIAR analysis revealed manure & sewage (MS) as the primary NO3- source (accounting for 59.7-78.1%) before extreme heavy precipitation, chemical fertilizer (CF) making a minor contribution (6.9-17.3%). Different precipitation events and land use types lead to changes in NO3- sources. Affected by extreme heavy precipitation, the contribution of MS decreased while CF increased, particularly in vegetables (26.2-28.1%) and farmland (29.2-34.7%). After continuous heavy precipitation, MS increased again, particularly in vegetables (50.0%) and farmlands (20.4-66.4%), with CF either increasing or remaining steady. This indicated that continuous heavy precipitation accelerated the leaching of nitrogen (organic manure application) stored in deep soil to groundwater and it has a larger influence on the increasing of NO3- concentrations of groundwater than extreme heavy precipitation which carried nitrogen (chemical fertilizer application) in shallow soil to groundwater by fast flow. These findings underscore the importance of considering soil chemical N stores and their implications for groundwater contamination mitigation under future extreme climate scenarios, particularly in agricultural management practices.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: This study aimed to screen immune-related marker genes of ischemic stroke (IS). MATERIAL AND METHODS: Two IS-related gene expression datasets were downloaded. The significantly differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and miRNAs (DEMs) between IS and control groups were selected. The differential immune cells were analysed. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) was applied to analyse immune-related genes, followed by function analysis and interaction network construction. Then, key genes were further screened using optimization algorithm to construct a diagnostic model. Finally, miRNA regulatory network of several key genes was established. RESULTS: In total 321 DEGs and 140 DEMs were obtained. 11 immune cell types were significantly different between IS and control groups. WGCNA identified two key modules, involving 202 differential immune genes. The greenyellow module was enriched in biological processes and pathways associated with T cells, while the midnightblue module was mainly associated with apoptosis, and inflammatory response-related functions and pathways. Protein interaction network identified 10 hub nodes, such as CD8A, ITGAM and TLR4. LASSO regression selected 8 key feature genes, and a risk score model was established. Key model genes were enriched in 63 GO biological processes, such as microglial cell activation, and B cell apoptotic process, and 3 KEGG pathways, such as negative regulation of nuclear cell cycle DNA replication, and hematopoietic cell lineage. Finally, a total of 25 miRNA-target relationship pairs were obtained. CONCLUSIONS: This study identified some immune-related marker genes and constructed a diagnostic model based on 8 immune-related genes in IS.

ABSTRACT

Objective: White matter hyperintensity (WMH) in patients with cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) is strongly associated with cognitive impairment. However, the severity of WMH does not coincide fully with cognitive impairment. This study aims to explore the differences in the dynamic functional network connectivity (dFNC) of WMH with cognitively matched and mismatched patients, to better understand the underlying mechanisms from a quantitative perspective. Methods: The resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) and cognitive function scale assessment of the patients were acquired. Preprocessing of the rs-fMRI data was performed, and this was followed by dFNC analysis to obtain the dFNC metrics. Compared the dFNC and dFNC metrics within different states between mismatch and match group, we analyzed the correlation between dFNC metrics and cognitive function. Finally, to analyze the reasons for the differences between the mismatch and match groups, the CSVD imaging features of each patient were quantified with the assistance of the uAI Discover system. Results: The 149 CSVD patients included 20 cases of "Type I mismatch," 51 cases of Type I match, 38 cases of "Type II mismatch," and 40 cases of "Type II match." Using dFNC analysis, we found that the fraction time (FT) and mean dwell time (MDT) of State 2 differed significantly between "Type I match" and "Type I mismatch"; the FT of States 1 and 4 differed significantly between "Type II match" and "Type II mismatch." Correlation analysis revealed that dFNC metrics in CSVD patients correlated with executive function and information processing speed among the various cognitive functions. Through quantitative analysis, we found that the number of perivascular spaces and bilateral medial temporal lobe atrophy (MTA) scores differed significantly between "Type I match" and "Type I mismatch," while the left MTA score differed between "Type II match" and "Type II mismatch." Conclusion: Different mechanisms were implicated in these two types of mismatch: Type I affected higher-order networks, and may be related to the number of perivascular spaces and brain atrophy, whereas Type II affected the primary networks, and may be related to brain atrophy and the years of education.

ABSTRACT

In order to reduce the risk of early freezing damage to cement-based materials in winter construction, lime powder was used to improve the properties of the Portland cement-sulphoaluminate cement (PC-CSA) composite system at low temperatures. In this study, the effects of lime powder dosage on the properties of a PC-CSA blended system with two proportions (PC:CSA = 9:1 and 7:3) at -10 °C were investigated, and the mechanisms of improvement were revealed. The results showed that the compressive strength of the PC-CSA composite system was effectively improved, and the setting time was shortened by the addition of lime powder. Lime powder could effectively act as an early heating source in the PC-CSA composite system, as the maximum temperature of samples exposed to sub-zero temperatures was increased and the time before dropping to 0 °C was prolonged by the addition of lime powder. The extra CH generated by the hydration of lime powder provided an added hydration path for C4A3S¯, which accelerated the formation of AFt at each stage. Frozen water as well as the early frost damage were effectively decreased by lime powder because of the faster consumption of free water at an early stage. The modification of the hydration products also contributed to the denseness of the microstructure.

ABSTRACT

Residents' participation is crucial for sustainable old neighborhood regeneration. Residents' intentions to participate in the regeneration are low in China, resulting in unsustainable neighborhood development problems. Therefore, it is essential to investigate the drivers of residents' participation. Residents' behavioral mechanisms are deeply embedded in their social networks, especially in acquaintance social networks typical of old neighborhoods in China. By constructing a mediated moderation model based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and danwei system and taking the old neighborhood regeneration in Xi'an as a case study, this paper investigates the paths and mechanisms of the social network embeddedness, TPB, and danwei system on residents' participation intention. The results show that social network embeddedness can improve residents' intention to participate in regeneration through both direct and indirect pathways, and its indirect effect is much larger than the direct effect. Attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control significantly and positively mediated the contribution of social network embeddedness on participation intention. However, the specific mediating effect of attitude is significantly smaller than the other two. The danwei system has a significant moderating effect in the first stage of the relationship between social network embeddedness and participation intention. These imply that the extrinsic social factor of social network embeddedness is internalized as a driving force for convergence and motivation of residents' participation intentions mainly through the normative pressure and exchange of experiences between acquaintances and that the danwei system reinforces this extrinsic-intrinsic facilitation process through the danwei's "physical presence." These findings provide revelatory countermeasures for exploring the factors that motivate residents to participate actively in neighborhood regeneration and encourage their involvement at the intervention level.

ABSTRACT

Background Unilateral naevoid telangiectasia (UNT) is a rare disease with only sporadic cases reported. The pathogenesis remains elusive and especially in paediatric patients, effective and safe treatment is still uncertain. Objectives The purpose of this study was to summarise the clinical characteristics of UNT, explore the possible pathogenesis and evaluate the efficacy and safety of pulsed dye laser (PDL) therapy. Materials and Methods The epidemiological data, clinical manifestations, laboratory tests and pathological features of paediatric patients with UNT were retrospectively reviewed. PDL treatment was done on some of the patients. Clinical documents and patient images before and after treatment were assessed to evaluate efficacy and adverse events. Results Most of the cases (9/11) presented with unilateral lesions. The laboratory results of all the 11 cases were normal. Histological examination in six cases revealed multiple, dilated veins in the reticular dermis. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) staining was positive, whereas oestrogen receptor staining was negative. Nine cases were treated with PDL which was shown to be effective and safe. Conclusion UNT has typical clinical manifestations. The pathogenesis of this disease could be linked to VEGF; however, more research and confirmation are needed. PDL is an effective and safe treatment for UNT.
