ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The rate of seat belt use in rural societies is less than in urban societies. The present study aimed to determine the effect of demographic and traffic-related variables on seat belt use among rural non-drivers based on the theory of planned behavior (TPB). METHODS: This study was conducted among 450 non-drivers in the rural areas of Hashtroud district in Iran. For collection of data, a questionnaire containing questions about demographic characteristics and general information on traffic-related behaviors of non-drivers, and questions on seat belt use based on constructs of the TPB was used. RESULTS: The lowest seat belt use rate was for non-drivers that sit in the rear seat of a car on rural roads (22.4 % never, 14.4 % always). Also, the rate of seat belt use among parents of participants on rural roads was lower than on city roads. Adherence to traffic rules and having training about seat belt use had significant effects on the construct of TPB, including attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, behavioral intention, and behavior of seat belt use. With increasing age, subjective norms about seat belt use have improved. The attitude toward seat belt use among females was better than males. CONCLUSIONS: The result indicated that most of rural non-drivers did not adhere to traffic rules. Adherence to the traffic rules and having training on seat belt use had a significant impact on seat belt use behavior. Training seat belt use especially by parents could be effective in improving seat belt use.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO) is the most common cause of hydronephrosis within childhood that usually treat by surgery. According to anatomical variations in different individuals, scheduling similar procedures for all patients is not suitable, and thus the best decision for an appropriate surgical technique should be considered separately for each patient. Regardless of the type of applied technique, creating a funnel-shape UPJ with a suitable size is a successful treatment. In this context, the assessment of a successful surgical treatment in a short-term follow-up means repairing revealed anatomical defects. The present study aimed to compare the diagnostic value of static magnetic resonance urography (MRU) and diuretic-based renalscintigraphy (DRS) in patients with UPJO after pyeloplasty. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 30 consecutive patients with UPJO, who underwent unilateral pyeloplasty between 2012 and 2013 were assessed. All subjects underwent DRS and also MRU about 1-month after the former procedure. RESULTS: The Kendall's tau correlation showed a very strong correlation between results of MRU and diuretic renal scintigraphy (r = 0.932, P < 0.001). This strong correlation was also shown by Somers'd test (r = 0.932, P < 0.001) similarly. CONCLUSIONS: Our study shows a strong agreement between DRS and MRU to assess UPJO. MRU static fluid has a high accuracy for assessment of renal system anatomy. Due to the lack of dangerous consequences of contrast materials, MRU can be the best option instead of DRS.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Clinical education is a critical and complex component of nursing education that is influenced by many variables. One of them is stress, which may disturb students' learning, too. Stressors may differ according to the learning situation and environment, and recognizing them, seems to be essential for corrective interventions. The present work was performed to identify stressors in clinical nursing education in Iran, according to the published research reports. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this systematic review, all published research reports available in Iranian and International web-based data bases and search engines were searched. Also, the archives of peer reviewed Iranian nursing and medical education journals (published between 1989 and 2009) were hand searched. Out of 1104 retrieved records (by a more general terms of clinical education AND Nursing), after stepwise screening, 15 original research articles were selected for content analysis. Coded data were classified and their frequency was represented in Tables. RESULTS: THE FOLLOWING THEMES WERE OBTAINED TO CLASSIFY MAIN AREAS OF IMPORTANCE FOR FACTORS RELATED TO STRESS IN CLINICAL NURSING EDUCATION: a) clinical competence and ability to play one's roles, b) care load, or stress due to care, c) main area of education, d) interpersonal relationships and interactions, e) clinical environment (facilities and equipments, space, learning opportunities, etc,…). Subthemes were also identified in each theme. CONCLUSION: Published studies in Iran provide appropriate background evidences for planning and evaluating interventional programs to reduce stress among nursing students and instructors. Each identified theme in this study could be considered as a subject for planned interventions. Among them, it seems that interpersonal relationships and interactions is of the highest priority.
